We enjoyed our overall stay in this traditional onsen inn. The lady who showed us to our room and explained how to make use of the onsen was very kind and helpful. Dinner was a special experience as was the Japanese breakfast. Our servers were attentive and very polite. It was helpful how they explained the dishes to us. I’m afraid, however, that the lady who intercepted us upon arrival was not so charming. Her attitude was rather brusque as she demanded us to face the camera without explaining that it was a thermometer. In fact, the front desk check in experience was below the standard of service one would expect at this price point.

こちらのお宿にずっと泊まりたくてイギリスから伺いました。希望の部屋風呂つきのお部屋はすでにいっぱいだったのですが、貸切温泉の予約サービスができて満喫できました。お宿の雰囲気は全てが好みで、陰翳礼讃の静かで豊かな時間、日本らしさが大変感じられました。温泉のお湯もなめらかで肌に大変よく、手湿疹が滞在中に綺麗になくなりました。残念ながらイギリスに戻ってきた途端に再発症してしまいました。湯の花など販売していたら買ってきたかったほど私にはあっていました。毎回一時帰国の際には伺いたいお宿です。

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Tocen Goshoboh yesterday and would highly recommend it!

We arrived around 2:20 PM, which was over 30 minutes before the official check-in time, but the hotel kindly let us check in early. We booked the Japanese-Style Standard Room with No Shower Room, including breakfast for two, at a very reasonable price of AUD 500.

This traditional ryokan has an incredible 800-year history, and you can truly feel the depth of culture in every detail of its design and atmosphere. The Kinsen (golden hot spring) was especially memorable – perhaps because we visited during the off-season, I was lucky enough to enjoy the communal bath all to myself three times during our stay. It was so relaxing and peaceful.

The room was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in a classic Japanese style. We also appreciated the traditional yukata robes provided – a lovely touch that added to the experience.

Service was excellent. At check-in, the staff took the time to explain the facilities and house rules thoroughly and with great care. As for breakfast – while not overly abundant, it was thoughtfully prepared and reflected the elegance of traditional Japanese cuisine: simple, healthy, and refined.

All in all, we had an exceptional stay. We’d love to return in the future and highly recommend this unique and historic ryokan to anyone visiting Arima Onsen.

My hopes for this property was unexpectedly exceeded. Centrally located in the heart of Arima; friendly and courteous staff; spacious room with surprising amenities; great breakfast; fantastic onsen with steam room. I've been to many great onsen hotels & ryokans in Dogo, Nikko, Kusatsu and Beppu -- and this hotel is very worthy of 5 stars. I will come back again!

Would not recommend to bring children under 13. Actually, they should not allow children under 13 due to the wood construction, which can be really noisy. I am glad there were no small children around.

They offer all that you need, however unlikely other hotels or Ryokan in Japan, they do not offer lotion. Also advised the hotel that they should reconsider their shampoo. Unlikely other hotels, their shampoo really messed up our hair.

This was probably the BEST place I stayed at while in Japan. The staff is super nice and attentive. They took the time to explain how to use the onsen amenities as well as the door systems for their hotels, even how their food is served while at breakfast. They asked us what time we wanted to have breakfast upon check in so that it was squared away for the next day; their traditional Japaense breakfast was delicious! They require you to take off your shoes at the entrance, and identified our shoes correctly every time we left the building! Honestly it felt like the staff had magic! They also asked what time we wanted to have our rooms made for the night and had it ready by the time we came back from exploring the city. They have onsens and provide yukatas so that their guests can wear around the property; even at breakfast! Overall I would have been glad to stay here my entire trip; genuine highlight of our trip.

This was an amazing onsen experience and absolutely worth the higher price. The onsen is wonderful and very private. The rooms are traditional Japanese rooms, gorgeous and comfortable. Our room also had a massage chair. We opted to have the dinner and it was incredible.

Fantastic ryokan experience. Service was outstanding and kaiseki dinner delicious. We also booked the private onsen for one hour which is a short 5 min walk. The location is super convenient as it’s next to restaurant, shops and the bus station. It’s not a western hotel with various amenities, so know what you are getting into upfront.

분위기 좋고 친절한 온천 료칸

아리마 온천 마을의 버스정류장 바로 옆에 붙어있는 고풍스러운 온천 료칸입니다. 이곳에 최초로 지어진 유서 깊은 료칸이라고 하네요. 그만큼 분위기 있고 시설도 좋습니다.
역사가 깊은 만큼 멋을 풍기지만 걸을 때 나무가 삐걱대거나 바람이 많이 불면 창이 흔들리는 소리가 나기도 합니다. 료칸답게 엘리베이터는 없으나 체크인시 직원이 방까지 캐리어를 올려줍니다. (내리는건 셀프) 저희는 4층이고 짐이 무거워서 어떻게 올리셨나 궁금하네요..ㅠ
직원들이 친절하고 다들 영어를 잘 합니다.
료칸 방은 3인 가족이 충분히 쉬기 좋았구요. 들어가면 테이블이 놓여져있고 저녁식사 후에는 테이블이 치워지고 두꺼운 요이불이 깔립니다. 유카타도 있어서 온천욕 후 마을 한바퀴 돌기 좋습니다.
료칸 내에 공용 온천이 있습니다. 2층에 있고 남녀로 나누어 들어가면 내부에 샤워실, 그 안쪽에 실내 은탕과 노천 금탕이 있습니다.
은탕은 매우 뜨거워서 들어가지 못하고 ㅠ 금탕은 적당한 뜨거운 온도여서 좋았습니다. 제일 안으로 들어가면 남여탕이 붙어있는데 낮은 돌담으로 되어있어 일어나는 것은 금지입니다. 그래도 사용에 불편함은 없습니다. 료칸 숙박 손님들만 사용하기 때문에 공용이어도 사람이 없거나 1명정도 있는 정도입니다. 프라이빗탕이 건물 옆 별관으로 있는 모양인데 60분에 5500엔 정도이지만 굳이 사용 필요성을 느끼진 못했습니다.
저녁시간은 사전에 호텔스닷컴 메시지로 1730,1800,1830라고 안내를 받았으나 마지막 예약가능 시간을 물어봐서 19시가 가능하다고 해서 19시로 했습니다. 아침식사 시간은 0800,0830,0900 가능합니다.
체크인 15시, 체크아웃 10시, 온천 운영시간 15~9시반 (밤 12~1시 청소), 마을 상점들이 17시까지 운영이므로 시간 계획 하시고 식사시간 예약을 사전에 메시지로 보내는 것이 좋습니다.
가이세키는 1층 식사테이블에서 진행되는 옵션으로 했구요. 저녁은 와규 포함 코스요리, 아침은 생선과 두부데침으로 한상으로 나왔습니다. 아침보다는 저녁이 확실히 풍성하고 맛있습니다.
건물이 커서 좋은게 층마다 소파 등 휴식공간이 있고 퇴실 후에도 잠시 버스시간까지 앉아있을수 있는 코타츠가 1층에 있습니다.
무엇보다 아리마온천은 버스로 가는게 한번에 가고 제일 편한데, 그 버스정류장 바로 옆에 있다는 점때문에 교통이 아주 편리합니다.
가격은 비싸지만 한번쯤 경험해볼만 합니다.

Such a beautiful ryokan. We tried the half board option and it was a nice experience. The Kobe beef was delicious. Our kid’s got to roll her own sushi roll. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Took extra care towards our 8yo, finding her the fitting yukata and sandals. The onsen is a bit smaller than expected, so if you go in the morning there might be some wait to use the shower before and after. Also, if you happened to have loud neighbour staying at the same time, you can pretty much hear all their conversation. Luckily most people kept their volume down at night time.

Wonderful stay, the rooms are beautiful and well appointed. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding; taste, quality and presentation exceeded our expectations. They provide a yukata as well as toothbrush, hairbrush and razors with shaving cream. The private onsen was a great experience, both the silver and gold baths are fantastic, very few people when we used it and one time was just for us. Very attentive and helpful staff at the front desk. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Onsen Ryokan

This is very authentic Onsen-Ryokan but has convenient electronic features such like room can be locked key-less. All remotes in the room are packed in disposable cases.
Staffs are very helpful and friendly. Inside courtyard garden is well treated. Bath tubs have natural hot springs which was we looked for this trip. I strongly recommend, and will come again for next chance.

Tocen Goshoboh is an absolutely stunning hotel and conveniently located 3-4 min walk away from Arima Onsen station. Walking through the halls always felt like exploring a mansion rather than a hotel. All of the display cases in my room with antique books and statues were a nice touch. Every staff member I interacted with was courteous and genuinely seemed to want guests to be as comfortable during their stay as possible. The multi-course kaiseki dinners as well as the simpler (but equally delicious) breakfasts were some of the best I've had in Japan. I also enjoyed the onsen facilities which were very clean and well-taken care of. I would travel to Japan just to stay at this hotel again.

First time in a roykan and this place set the standard very high! When we got off the Hankyu bus station, we literally walked 20 paces to the hotel.
We were greeted by the staff, who even cleaned our suitcase wheels. The staff did as fast check in and showed us to our room. They were able to explain the procedure for the onsen and organized dinner and turn down service.

We enjoyed the architecture of the ryokan and our breakfasts. We did have a Japanese suite for 3 persons which was large and very comfortable and we stayed 3 nights. However, we were a little disappointed in the onsen as only onsen towels were provided and no bath towels which meant we had to take our room towels to the onsen and bring them back damp. Also the \"silver\" onsen was claustrophobic in that it was completely enclosed with only a small opening so it felt like a steam bath/Jacuzzi and not particularly relaxing. If you don't speak any Japanese it is also difficult as very little English is spoken and we had some minor misunderstandings. Otherwise an enjoyable stay but we probably won't return as we weren't impressed with Arima and there are many other ryokans with onsens and towns that are more to our liking.

it was nice overall, location is superb right in front of the bus station. Traditional breakfast was wonderful, but dinner at this place is overprice and average at best. The room trash did not get clean everyday.

Great Ryokan in great tiny town

Great Ryokan and great service frim English speaking staff. The natural spring requires booking and is not a direct part of hotel. They have there own spa but it's not the natiral spring. This is the smallest town we've been to but loved it. Small toy museum has some quirky stuff - check out the toy spinning the tea cups. Also a great couple of bars and eating spots. Note everything closes before 7pm on weekdays so make sure to get dinner in your room which is awesome.

Great service & loction

The hotel staff were lovely and the location is great (just right next to the bus terminal).
We where welcomed warmly when arrived and we had a very traditional Japanese experience during our stay including taking our shoes off at the entrance, traditional Japanese meals and enjoyed the hot spring very much!
We had booked a private bath for a different experience. This would be the only thing I will not recommend as the public bath is great with fresh breeze and view of the garden where the private bath is located in a different bath house in an enclosed room (but great if you prefer to bath by yourself rather than with other people).

I will defiantly stay here again in my next visit to Arima Osen.

5 Star Onsen Resorts

Great location within walking distance to and from bus and train stations. Traditional Japanese Onsen Resorts. Choose half board (breakfast and dinner included)and we experienced fine dining service in the room. Onsens for guests are separated into men only and ladies only and facilitated with all amenities. Our room is very clean and the service was flawless. Highly recommended.

The ideal traditional ryokan

Great service, convenient location which is not far from Himeji or Osaka by car. A good break from the city hustle at a serene countryside with one of the oldest onsen spring in Japan. Highly recommended for those seeking for a traditional ryokan around the region.
