It is overall a good stay. Just that for a premium price of 600 USD for 2 nights (breakfast included) for a single person, this place fall slighly below expectation, partly due to lack of shower in room, the fume from burning of incense, lack of facilities such as coin washing machine, in-house cafe, coin washing machine, need to surrender room key to front counter when going out and relatively lesser choice of 2 public baths.

Food was excellent, staff was attentive and helpful, the futon bed was comfy, maples view near breakfast area is great.

This was my first time in Arima and also my first time staying in a traditional Japanese-style room at a ryokan. I had stayed at a different ryokan the night before in a Western-style room, so this stay was a completely new experience. The staff and service were wonderful, and the location of the ryokan was very scenic. I had not included dinner in my booking, but I wish I had. I did rent the private onsen for 45 minutes and was able to enjoy the relaxing effects of Arima’s famous gold and silver waters. The tatami-style room was charming and comfortable, and I would love to return in the future and bring friends with me. Breakfast the next morning, with everyone wearing yukatas, made the experience even more memorable.

Really nice, welcoming staff. Food was 10/10! The traditional japanese room was great too. However, be warned, the floor beds are not particularly comfortable. Suggestion for the hotel: upgrade your towels as the ones you currently have are too thin, small and feel like sandpaper. They did not fully wrap around our bodies.

A well refined boutique Ryokan! We had the breakfast and dinner inclusion, and must say this was the highlight of our trip. Right in town, but away from the bustle. Showa period interiors felt as if we were taken back in time. Do not forget to sit in the library, was taken aback by the start of the Autumn leaves falling. Will be back again!

What a tucked away gem. It feels like a special retreat back in time. The private open air bath and traditional room were very cozy and enjoyable. The facilities are retro but well maintained. Staff were kind and the experience was unique and definitely worth it. We did the kaiseki meal and enjoyed the whole experience. I would recommend it for sure. This is a traditional Ryokan. It is close to the village and onsens. If you are looking for Japanese experience, it's great. I did not like the meals but I do not like traditional meals. If you don't want fish for breakfast, then eat in town. The pillow was typical hard pillow. Futon ok

I loved the decor of my bedroom - little Japanese touches which made it feel special. The location was also excellent and easy to find, being close to the Gion corner and 10 minutes walk or so to the train station, shrines and shops. This is my 2nd time staying here. 1st time was booked under my cousin name.
I loved the friendly and welcome approached when reached the hotel entrance.
They really treated us as super VIP when check in with little sweet and tea.
I liked here because they have in room Onsen which i can do in privately in my room, any time and many times.
I did not order any dinner, but 7-eleven and family mart is walkable. Grab and go back hotel and eat.
You may ask them to send you out or pick you up but we did not use it as we want to walk around the town.
The breakfast set was super good too, which we enjoyed very much. The dining room is quiet and peaceful when having breakfast.
Definitely, will come back if i coming to Arima again.

This is an old hotel that has an incredible charm to it. They have curated the experience in a beautiful way and both onsens in the hotel were beautiful, clean, and relaxing. The service was excellent, as were the meals.

When we arrived the staff greeted us and gave us a warm welcome. The check in was fast and then we were lead to our room. The staff explained all the onsens available as well as giving us a tour. A traditional onsen hotel in Arima. Staff were great and helpful who helped us with the heavy luggage up and down the hotel’s pebble staircase amid heavy rain. Great compliments to the amazing staff!

But the biggest issue was, we found hair in the bed when first turned down the bedding. This was shockingly scary and caused my sleep to be disturbed. First time seeing this in a Japanese hotel, in my over 30 visits to the country.

Staying at Negiya Ryofukaku was really pleasant and relaxing. Arima Onsen is a really old town in general so the building's age really shows. However, this didn't affect our stay at all. Here are our main highlights of our stay:
- we booked an overnight trip (after the night we wished we did 2 nights) in the traditional japanese room. The roombecame our favorite. It's incredibly clean, has a great view of Arima Onsen and it was perfect for the two of us.
- when we booked, i didnt realize dinner wasnt included, so upon check-in we requested if we could also include dinner and luckily enough, they still had meals available (i think they only had a certain amount of food because staying at ryokans, mostly the food will be based on whats available that season) so be sure to inquire if you would like to eat in the ryokan for dinner. We were able to choose what we wanted and there was an abundance of food served. We both were incredibly full.
- the hotsprings were FANTASTIC. I didnt want to go out at all haha!
- breakfast IS included in our booking and the food that was served was also exceptional!
- they also have a small gift shop for those that want to bring home mementos.
- there was a library that had coffee, also has a pretty good view.
- the staff were cordial, helpful and they really had great service.

The first day of our honeymoon trip was perfect. I would definitely return and book with them, and I highly recommend staying here.

contacting the JTB to file an official complaint, try to get my money back. I have stayed in Ryokans across Japan - this should not be categorized as such. booking process: did not received a confirmation for my booking via email, and no one reached out to confirm my reservation. had to contact hotel directly through a chat portal - despite the advertisement the staff spoke English, no one did. Cancellation process is purposely misleading: it says you can cancel by X day, but check the fine print: you can cancel by 12:01 AM on X day. The first of many Scammy practices. On arrival no one spoke English. One staff member speaks but if they aren’t in the office (which was only one time) you are on your own. I was told meals were “sold out” - which is to say again, there should have been a confirmation or contact ahead of time to reserve the meals? I was able to get into breakfast, I was greeted by a waitress slamming plates rudely. food portion not a “meal” Map with food led to no open places. Request for taxi response “we’ll see” leaving me with feeling of dred I’d miss flight next day. Room cleaning costs extra, one of many extra costs not advertised. No one could bring my correct shoes. At checkout bill was in Japanese with extra charges, again,not advertised. At almost 400USD a night + scam fees this was a joke. Unlike traditional Ryokans I left anxious, frustrated and feeling taken advantage of. Will be contacting Tourism Board/Hotels.com for complaint and full refund.

Good in location near the train station. But steep scope to reach front door.
Small hotel style and tiny outdoor onsen pool which only allow 2-3 people. Indoor pool is normal size. Believe never too crowd as rooms is limited and there is 3 private onsen rooms.
Meal is very good as is I expecting when choosing this hotel.
Hotel.com didn’t mentioned meal at restaurant. Hopefully hotel can arrange In-room dinning for my second night stay dinner with additional charge.

We had a great experience in this hotel. The front desk staff came out from the lobby to give us a warm welcome. He also took us to our room, showed us the hotel facilities and introduced the dinner and breakfast arrangement.
Dinner was kaiseki style and it was served in our room. The lady who served our dinner was attentive. She also made our bed after dinner. Breakfast was traditonal style and it was served in the breakfast room.
Onsens were quite nice as well and not very crowded. They swapped the male and female onsens in the morning, so we could try all onsens with 1 night stay. You can also book a 45 minute private onsen session with extra cost.

The location is quite good, view from the room is perfect, staff of this Ryokan are very helpful. The ryokan has two baths and is switched between men and women on a daily basis. It has a shuttle bus but you don't need it unless you have a lot of luggage, it's only 3 minutes walk to the train station.

We enjoyed a one night stay at this beautiful ryokan and enjoyed Japanese hospitality to its finest. The hotel staff were warm, welcoming and eager to assist. They showed us to the room personally and introduced the room features, hotel facilities and the area. They even have a gourmet map for guests that points out the different delicious food in the area. Onsen facilities are very clean and lots of amenities are provided inside. The futons were extremely comfortable and the view from our balcony was great. All in all, it was an exceptional stay and I would highly recommend!

Traditional ryokan with great food but so-so onsen

Probably the most traditional ryokan I have ever stayed in. I reserved 3 rooms for our group and they upgraded 1 of them to a big room. They also served us dinner for our group of 8 inside our big room, which was nice. Did I mention the dinner quality was excellent? I have to say the onsen itself was very plain. It served the purpose but there was no view whatsoever. Size was also small but fortunately not many guests were there when we soaked. Also the rooms have no private showers or baths. You have to use the public bath. You have to climb 40 stairs to one of the two onsens assigned to men (onsens switch daily). Breakfast was served in the big restaurant and was of good quality. Rooms were old but kept in decent quality. Service was great.

A pleasant Ryokan experience including some very good food but the hotel itself is clearly very dated and in need of a complete renovation. Some aspects can be excused but as an example, the sink in our unheated bathroom wouldn’t drain as it was coming away from the wall and the rattling ventilation system kept us awake at night.

The staff were friendly but some interactions like being told the bar was only open from 8pm to 10pm left us feeling we weren’t a priority.

Wouldn’t recommend.

We stayed during the week because the weekend prices were terribly high. The weekday price was still somewhat high but offered the best value/money compared to other accommodations in Arima Onsen at the time.

Our room was a nice mix of western (beds) and Japanese (sitting area) design. The room was clean and while not new, definitely well kept. The staff spoke English well and was very friendly and accommodating. We received a cup of green tea as a welcome and the workings of the room were explained to us. The \"mountain view\" may be a bit of an overstatement, nevertheless, the view was nice and there were mountains :) The room was quiet.

There are 2 onsen baths and you get to experience both during a 1 night stay: you enjoy one in the evening and the other one in the morning (gender separation). The onsens are a little small but the human traffic is spread out and we had a bath just to ourselves after a few minutes.

The only downside is the food which seems overpriced and not plentyful so we brought supplies from a nearby konbini :)

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and very helpful, and one staff member even carried out luggage all the way to our room on the third floor (I felt guilty since I am an over-packer lol). This hotel is in an excellent location for exploring the arima hotsprings area and is close to excellent shopping. The arima toy museum is within easy walking distance. The food at the hotel is very traditional and delicious, and supper was served to us inside our hotel room. As for the hotsprings itself, there is both a public and a private option. The public bath is gorgeous with beautiful scenery of trees, and I'd recommend going at night to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. The private option cost just over 3000 yen for 45 minutes and was nice since my boyfriend and I could go in together. You have to book this option in advance with the hotel staff. Overall, this was a very relaxing and old hotel, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a traditional Japanese inn experience.

For anyone that doesn't know the whole Arima area is full of tourist attractions and tons of places to go sight seeing. This is one of the places that happened to be more affordable for me. The service was excellent and so was the food, there's nothing bad I can say about this place, they even offer transportation to nearby areas including shuttle bus service.

Our stay at the Negiya Ryofukaku was nothing short of excellent. The staff were very professional and polite, accommodating both our very limited Japanese language skills and our request for a larger yukata (I'm apparently taller than the average guest). They do have english-speakers on staff, and the guide who walked us through the hotel's facilities and amenities was kind enough to explain everything in both Japanese and English, as we were trying to learn as much of the former and speak as little of the latter as possible. The room was very clean and spacious, with a great sitting balcony. Breakfast was delicious, and the onsen facilities were great. If possible, I recommend spending a little extra for a private onsen session, especially if you're still new to the idea of onsen. We didn't have a chance to try a dinner or the bar in the lobby, but both looked amazing. Again, an excellent stay.

A true Japanese experience!

The hotel staff met us at the station and picked up our luggage, even though it was too early to check in. They also gave us a ride to the town center, and let us off there, so that we could walk around the delightful little town of Arima.
Later, we checked in, and were served tea and a snack by our gracious hostess. Our room had lovely tatami floors and a tokonoma, with fresh flowers. Our party of six (we were staying in 3 separate rooms) all visited together in one room for a while. Later, we all walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner. The hotel staff picked us up at the restaurant and brought us back to the hotel.
In the evening, we had a long soak in the hot springs bath, outside in a beautiful setting. Meanwhile the hotel staff laid out our beautiful futon for us.
In the morning, we had a soak in a different hot springs bath in our hotel--outside, and on the side of a tree-lined hill. Then we were served a big, Japanese traditional breakfast. Finally, the hotel staff drove us, along with all of our luggage, to the station to see us off.

great service of hotel staff

The hotel is up on the hill but there is a courtesy car which help to carry our luggage from hotel to bus stop when leaving in the morning. Lady staff at reception even help to open umbrella to cover us when we were boarding the car.

Beautuful ryokan,living room, coffee and tea self service sll day, wpnderful ope air onsen bath. Lovrly staff with good servicwe. Free bicycle to sight seeing.

Really nice, well-priced ryokan with spacious rooms and very polite staff. Very good set of onsen / public bath facilities and authentic traditional Japanese breakfast experience. Some may find the lack of wifi access in the rooms to be a problem, but not us - our objective was to get away from it all anyway!

Conveniently located hotel with great service

The onsen was kind enough to arrange car shuttle twice to pick up our group of 10 persons from the ropeway station because of my elderly mother in-law. The onsen has separate hot spring pool for male/female visitors, and within the pool, one clear indoor pool and one outdoor minrral pool.We had the meals included room package, and everyone enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Its also a short walk to the shopping street and the bus stop for direct ride to Sannomiya Station.

Excellent services, beautiful scenery......

Is very nice Ryokan, fantastic experience to staying there. When you reach station, you may call them to pick up from train station. Friendly staff; even they can't speak good english but will trying to help and provide very good services.

スーツケースを運んでくれたのはいいのですが、そのまま和室の畳のお部屋に上げたので、衛生的日本とても気になりました。
キャスターで、公共の道や建物、外をゴロゴロひいてきたのをそのまま消毒もせずに寝室にもなる和室に上げると、菌が気になりました。
特定の置き場所が作る必要がありますし、アルコールスプレーも備え付けてほしいです。
