I have always stayed at Novotel when visiting Szeged over the years.
This however was my last visit as I no longer have a reason travelling there.
But I will recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to pop over to Szeged. It’s an ideal place to stay in, remarkably convenient and the staff are great.

The bar closes for guests at 10 PM. Friends of the bartender are served after 10 normally. The staff in the restaurant was very unfriendly, simmilar to Rozske border control staff. I would expect a different behaviour at the hotel, where a family pays 150 E per night.

Clean, new, nice view, family friendly, close to the city centre and the river side. As for parking you have to pay and reserve your spot in the hotel parking otherwise you have to park in the street and its free of charge after 8 or 6 pm i cant remember exactly. The minibar was empty , they dont use plastic water bottles so you should buy your own water bottle from the supermarket. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff speak english . Clean rooms and bathrooms and spacious.

Nice Hotel. No gym

I loved it but I regret using the hotels app. The reason we booked Novotel was because the gym was elegantly advertised. When we got there they told us the gym has been closed for 2 years. I felt deceived and unhappy with my stay because having a gym or any type of equipment is critical for any hotel I choose. I trusted Hotels.com to help out and it failed to deliver

I always stay here when visiting Szeged and have always had a good experience.
However this time I wasn’t too impressed with their bedding which looked tired and in dire need of a revamp. I thought it was plain white until the morning when I saw a pale awfully faded brown stripe on it . Surely your bedding can look a whole lot better .

A young man named Gregor, at reception literally made our day. Picture four tired seniors with no computer skills wondering how to pre-check in for our flight the next day. He did it all for us including printing our boarding passes! What a neat young man. I'd go back in a heart beat because of his attitude. Definitely a neat place to stay.

The rooms are cramped and tiny. Our toiled didn't flush properly and the air was stuck on heat only (not even fan). The beds are cardboard like , it's scary to sit down because it seems like they'd fall apart.

I ended up getting a room in another hotel as soon as I saw the rooms in Novotel, Do not recommend.

Breakfast was great with lovely waiters and waitresses. Adam was especially considerate. Air-conditioning worked really well which was very important in this heat. Has easy access by public transport and it's in walking distance of most interesting places. Beautiful view of the town and the river from the rooms.

DIRTY Warn Out Rooms

First of all the Lobby and breakfast areas are lovely and new, breakfast is plentiful with a good variety of dishes. The staff are also friendly and helpful. This is where the positives end. The Wellness is Nonexistent. There is 2 saunas and a home spa for 5 people stuck in a stinky basement, there is no pool or a welcoming area to relax and chill so to call this Wellness is a joke! Now to the rooms: the carpets are filthy, there was a peanut next to the bed left from the previous guest, the carpet was full of crumbs in front of the couch which stayed there for the length of our stay. Our pillows were old, dirty and stained and the pillow case was ripped so I requested clean pillows on our way out to dinner. When we returned we had 2 new pillows but still disgusting, stained pillows in new pillow cases. I called down to reception and the guy stared arguing with me that he doesn't understand what the problem is. I told him I can bring the pillow down and he can tell me if he would sleep on such a disgusting pillow. They sent 2 more pillows up, the guy gave them to me, shrugged his shoulders and left. only 1 pillow was clean, the other just as bad as the others. The next day i asked for new pillows again and finally had 2 clean pillows after the third time asking. This for a 4Star hotel that advertises a Pillow Menu on its website is Unacceptable. If I could I would get my money back for this hotel I would! Huge Disappointment!!!

I chose this hotel because it was close to the office I was going to attend a conference. This hotel is well located and has a nice view of the river and cathedral. The breakfast is delicious, and you get to taste some hungarian delicacies like sausage and salami. The staff is very friendly and always happy to help with anything.

Good choice for a solo business trip. Central pretty location, quiet, good breakfast, ample wifi. Rooms are simple and cleanly designed. Updated plumbing, lots of hot water and decent amenities. Beds are low, with thinner firmer mattresses than US chains.
Downside was the HVAC -- room had no screened window or door for natural air, and HVAC didn't affect the stuffy (occassionaly odorous) overly warm environment. Stayed in March, when Szeged has sunny, dry weather and a dramatic range of temperatures. The public areas were airy and pleasantly cool during the day, warm and pleasant at night. Not my room.
I was fantastically busy and out of the hotel from 7 to 10 each day. I'm sure the staff would have helped me if I had asked and been available.

Decent Hotel in Szeged

Overall, I had a good time at Novotel Szeged, the staff was friendly and nice at the reception, space in room was OK, except that the bathroom was a little bit small. Condition is decent as well, you can feel that it wasn't built yesterday, but it's not run down at all, either, so fine. The walls seemed a bit thin, in the hallway and also in my room I could hear my colleague coughing about 4 rooms away (he was turning sick when we were there). Area is good - on the edge of downtown-downtown, easily walkable to the bars, the Dome, Theatre and main square (less than 10 mins). Wifi was too slow and got stuck as well, it could be upgraded, though.

Staff is always so nice. Very nice cleaning ladies. Always a good breakfast. Have stayed here several times, rooms need updating (old mattresses and carpets). Receptionist was nice when I asked for a room with two single beds instead of a double, she found an available room.
Parking can be difficult if there is a large group there.

Our family travels a lot. We like novotel hotels because of set up, friendly staff and good breakfasts. This novotel is disappointing. Its our second time here. We came in the summer. A family of 4 and paid approx $60. The room was clean but kind of worn down. For the price, i didnt complain. This time we were just 3 and paid $80. Our room had carpet ready to fall apart, lumpy mattress and paint worn off bathroom door. Not what we usually get from novotel. Staff was friendly. I have stayed at nicer condition hotels in szeged at this price point and might choose them next time.

We are always happy with Novotel hotels. Comfortable and accommodating, and excellent breakfast. Really nice staff. The only negative were a couple of “insect” sightings (bathroom and room). I woke up the next morning with some bites on my hand; they probably got in thru the balcony door.

Cheap Hotel in Szeged with Decent Views

The Novotel in Szeged is centrally located within walking distance to the waterfront, parks, tourist attractions, and downtown Szeged. The hotel also offers decent views of the river and the church from the upper floors.

The hotel itself is below average to OK. The rooms are mostly clean and pretty basic. Housekeeping kept forgetting to bring fresh soap and water bottles. Laundry service is supposed to be same day if dropped off by 9am, however, I found out the only way to get \"same day\" laundry service was to drop off my laundry the night before.

The food at the restaurant is terrible. Do not eat at the hotel. They offer free breakfast. After 1-2 days this food will get old really fast. The food is super greasy, often cold, incredibly unhealthy, and many of the fruits and vegetables are starting to rot.

The fitness center in the hotel is very tiny. The one treadmill they offer only worked part of the time.

The wifi is decent but it keeps asking for a password multiple times per day.

Highly recommend to look elsewhere unless you need a cheap place to stay.

Great value for the price. Been going to Szeged for 14 years - at least 50 trips and for the money it can't be beat. There are better hotels to be had but at a higher, sometimes much higher price. If your on company per diem stay at those places but if your on your own dime and looking for pure value I highly recommend this hotel.

Avoid - unless you like huge bugs in your room

I was on a business trip here for 3 nights. First night, I jump out of bed 2 times as I think something's walking on me. I put on the lights and can't find anything, so I think it's all in my head...

Last day, I'm out for work and dinner until after 11pm. The room is very hot (as usual), so I decide this time to try to open the balcony door and let some cooler air in. I notice a huge bug on the curtain. Now, I am not a biologist so am going to avoid the \"c word\" but let's just say that it was a kind of a large beatle, around the size of a one pound coin. I HATE bugs so there was no way I would sleep with that thing alive in the same room, so I killed it with my shoe. I was disgusted but thought \"it can happen anywhere; maybe the cleaner opened the door and it got in\". Then I open the balcony door, and another huge \"beatle\" starts running from between the door and the frame. After killing it I find and kill two more near the door, at which point I call reception to ask for a new room. A guy came up, seemed suspicious but after seeing all my \"kills\" he agreed to give me a new room (though downgraded to single bed). Old room was on 7th, facing the street. New room was on 3rd, facing the other way. As I get in to the new room, I immediately spot 2 huge beatle-like things hanging on the curtain. Frankly, I didn't think a 3rd room would help, so I just killed them and \"slept\" a few hrs with lights and clothes on without a blanket, disgusted. :( Avoid this hotel at all costs.

I went to Szeged to settle in my son who was starting Med school at the University. Was really skeptic about the hotel, but must say I felt totally impressed with the facilities. I really think the staff played a major role in making our stay comfortable right from check-in to check-out. Breakfast was wholesome.

I used this hotel for business, so comfort wise it was good. Although I was there 2 nights, I only ate there once (as arrived late on the first night) and the meal was very good. There is also a good spread for breakfast, so for me it was very convenient with the food options as i didn't have to venture out to find something to eat.

fantastic hotel

the staff is very attentive and helpful. The location is great. I have stayed there on several occasions and the staff has remembered me and treated me very well. The breakfast is super! They also do great little things for the guests. For example, I forgot something small in the room, emailed them and they had it ready to give to a friend who went to the hotel to pick it up for me.
