I cannot believe this was rated 9.2 and 4 1/2 stars. 2nd worst stay in months around Asia. Where to begin:

No staff available most of time including Manager or Shift Manager to discuss issues with. No adequate English speaking staff. Asked for mgr at checkout and off property at such a critical time. Asked for email to send but couldn’t provide. I believe it’s fair to address directly with hotel mgr before lambasting online but have no choice.

First night, A/C defaulted to turning off after two hrs (preset for hotel convenience😢). I was comfortable going to bed but room got very hot in middle of night and I kept getting up to turn on. Don’t understand concept of ’thermo’stat I guess. Engineering came up 2nd night and played around in Thai menu and turned timer off in 2 secs.

Half my critical laundry ordered was misplaced until last minute. No urgency day before from entry level staff who couldn’t even reach mgr on call at home. 😡

The pool bar supposedly opened but during those hours NOBODY staffed. I had to go to front desk to have them call kitchen staff to get beer. Of course had to do it again for a 2nd beer. No staff anywhere. How is this 4 1/2 star service? 😢

The location, condition and beautiful pool and setting explain some high marks but not staff.

Most importantly/safety the shower water temp fluctuated dangerously. Even after letting run. From good temp it would get cold. You had to adjust hot up. Then it would change back and nearly scald you 😢.

We stayed for 7 nights and it was wonderful. Just 36 rooms but huge and very beautiful grounds, pool and setting, so a lovely place to relax by the river in between sightseeing visits. Good restaurants and the Blue Temple nearby. Lovely and very efficient staff. Highly recommended.

A really nice property. It's showing its age a bit but still a nice 5 star property. Room was large and has all the expected amenities, breakfast was great and parking is super easy. Only negatives are that checkin wasn't very friendly which seemed strange, but not a big deal, and the little things aren't quite up to a true 5 star resort, e.g. towels are a bit thread bear, gym has old equipment, small 32\"(ish) tv, etc. But at the price we paid, it's excellent and exceeded expectations. I would happily stay here again without complaint.

I had a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. The hotel and grounds, staff, room, restaurant, etc...were all excellent. I had a river view balcony room, which was the perfect spot to relax. The restaurant, Tara, had amazing food and a very nice waiter, Tay. I enjoyed every moment at this hotel.

Nice, but needs updating

The hotel looks great, right next to the river, quiet, but in need of some updating. The gym was pitifull, very old very basic equipments and dirty. Pool area was nice, food was good. Hotel is a bit isolated, so you can not walk anywhere, you will need a car or a taxi.

Stayed in a river front room. Had plenty of ants and mosquitoes plus several geckos. There were holes in the floor and roof. Water dripped from the roof when it rained. Also hot water was almost nonexistent.
I was able to get another room the last night after the roof leaked really bad.
The hotel is isolated from everything so if you want to go do or see something you will need to arrange for a tour. The hotel didn’t have any flyers for ideas.
Only place to eat is at the hotel unless you have a car or take a taxi. I walked a good kilometer before I found a restaurant, but no one spoke English. The hotel restaurant food was nothing special except it was four times the price.

Stayed 3 nights in January, 2023. Large bright room with updated bathroom, lovely pool to relax around and helpful staff. Some minor issues: wifi spotty in room, no English language channels on tv and no shuttle service available. Despite this, I’d happily stay again.

This property would nickel and dime you. We booked 2 rooms for 3 people. They only allowed 2 gala dinner tickets for 3 people. They insist to charge us an extra $50 for a horrible new year Eve dinner with lousy food, lame entertainment and drinks are not included. We purchased 2 cocktail for exhorbitant prices which taste like sugar. Worst hotel in our trip by far.

This is my second time here. I booked the house cottage with river view. But they said the cottage is under construction when I checkin. So they update me to the Deluxe river view room and there is no balcony... I have no problem about the stuff since his service is good, but just about the management. Why I can book the cottage online? And where is my balcony? I like the air in morning in Chiangrai. Ruin my vacation.. I may not stay in this hotel again...

This hotel has that old world Thai imperial charm.
It is not flash & new, but older & stylish.
The location for some people will seem a little removed, however, if you're looking for some quiet relaxing time this is perfect.
The hotel also offers a free shuttle each night to the night bazaar, leaving at 7 or 7:30 & returning at 9 or 9:30. Taxi is only 100baht anyway.
Location is also walking distance to the Blue Temple.

This is a gracious, old-style hotel with large rooms, huge beds, wooden floors, big bathrooms, a large pool and a pretty garden. The location on the banks of the river provide beautiful views and cool breezes. The restaurant is only average, but the omelets in the morning are delicious. The fitness room is adequate, but could use some newer equipment and the outdoor jacuzzi did not work.The staff was pleasant, efficient and unobtrusive. We had a very pleasant stay.

Older Thai style hotel with beautiful wood floors in the rooms.I had a nice view of the pool and the river as the room has a large window letting in lots of light.The breakfast was good if somewhat limited a little bland.
This hotel is in the same chain as my all time favorite the Imperial Mae Ping hotel in Chiang Mai,I recommend both hotels highly, they both deliver a great Thai vibe that you don't get in the more modern hotels.

In general the hotel is fine. The pool is nice, the rooms are big, the bed is big and comfortable (and we’re a couple with high demands if it concerns beds), the rooms are clean and there is a nice view. However, the hotel seems to be a little outdated. It feels a little old. For example, the airconditioning makes a lot of noice. When someone took a look at it, we were told that the airco makes the same (loud) noice in every room. Therefore, we weren’t able to sleep with the airco on and not with the airco off. So we naturally woke up from the heat whereafter we cooled down the room for 20 minutes so we could go back to sleep again. It was very difficult to explain the problems in the roo to the staff because they couldn’t speak English very well.

Furthermore, in the rainseason (now) there are a lot mosquitoes. The hotel tries to keep them out as much as they can, fighting against the mosquitoes is however mission impossible. The hotel is located in an area a litte far from the citycenter. You need to take a taxi ot tuktuk (or the relatively expensive hotel shuttle service). There is a few very good restaurants on walking distance.

Last but not least, the breakfastbuffet was OK. Not that special, not to bad. I missed some unweetned yogurt and some more fresh products (such as drinks).

In short: it was a fine experience.

Staff was genuinely friendly but need to work on being more informed about their hotel . They misspelled my name and told me I did not have a reservation at the hotel to start . Once that was cleared up and I went to check in , it was not the same room advertised on hotels.com They did attempt to correct the situation and put me in what they thought was the right room and offered to move our luggage for us as well . When we got to the room it was the exact same room as before . Also before changing rooms I informed the front desk that they would need to check the closet for one shirt that I had hung up in there . When I went to the new room , the shirt was not there and when I asked the front desk they said someone was now already occupying the previous room so I would h e to wait until the morning . All the staff was , again, very friendly . However it seemed like they were not very competent . I would say maybe it was a language barrier but being fluent in Thai , there was no language barrier in this case .

Buffet breakfast was nice and all the staff there very very friendly and accommodating .

The resort was a lovely property with about 40 rooms. The rooms were large and with a lot of wood and nicely appointed. The pool is very large considering the small number of rooms. Views of the river were also relaxing. Breakfast was included with a fair amount of western and Asian choices. Staff were friendly and helpful although English was limited overall. While near town nothing really in walking distance and you need transportation for the night market and other sights. The tv has limited English language channels. Nice and relaxing property and I would stay there again.

From the time the hotel shuttle van met us at the airport until the time it dropped us off for our departure, we experienced an absolutely delightful stay. The hotel staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive. Mr. Apichart and Mr. Sagun were particularly helpful. The tours they organized for us were great. In one day, we visited the most popular sites and always before the big tour groups arrived. The breakfast buffet was tasty, varied, and plentiful. There was a very nice choice of both western and Thai dishes. Our room was clean, comfortable and large. The bathroom had both a shower stall and a bath tub. Great Stay!

Perfect hotel on my purpose

This is four days trip to Chienrai by myself. What I need was calm environment, gim and pool. When I arrived there, I found rental bicycle at the gate. It's free and I could enjoy riding a bike in a town for a while.

This hotel has everything I need. I'm satisfied staying in this hotel.

Never disappointed with Imperial properties

The hotel is located beside the Kok river in a very quite neighborhood. the grounds were well kept, the hotel itself was clean and very well cared for. The rooms were large, comfortable bedding, equipped with a refrigerator, coffeemaker, bathroom was excellent with lots of hot water and convenience items. A little out of the way but does have a shuttle bus to various venues. The complementary buffet breakfast had enough selection to please anyone. All around a great place to stay.

Chiang Rai is a very small town that is just starting to see tourism in the form of overnight visitors. It seems that most people take a very long bus ride from nearby Chiang Mai (3 hours by bus) to quickly see the White Temple and The Golden Triangle and then drive back (3 hours) to their hotel in Chiang Mai. We wanted to extend our time in the small city and break up the drive. It was also in the middle of our 2 week trip so we thought we might want some easier days to regroup and rest without much scheduled.

The Imperial River House is a great place to do this. It is one of the finer hotels in the city. The property is very large and right on the river. Spacious is the first word that comes to mind. There is a huge pool and lots of outdoor areas. While our room was gigantic it was a bit sparse. Everything was nice and clean but it certainly wasn't ostentatious or glamorous. It was what we needed and nothing more. A 4 Star hotel for a 2 Star price.

Our favorite part about this hotel was the proximity to one of our favorite restaurants of the whole trip- Chivit Thamma Da. It's an adorable \"coffee\" house that no doubt has delicious coffee but also extraordinary food, real wine (hard to find in Thailand), delicious desert, a romantic location (on the river), and an adorable atmosphere. It's owed by a Thai local and her Dutch(?) husband. You can walk here from the hotel. It is through a random residential neighborhood, but we always felt safe in Thailand so we didn't mind it.

A Perfect Place

Arranged for free airport pickup. Note that this location is a few km from the city center and across the river and can be difficult for taxi drivers to find, so be sure and bring a hotel card when you go out. Finding taxis in Chiang Rai is not difficult but there are not a lot of taxis to be hailed on the street. Also, they are the open back truck type, so they may not look like what you expect.

Everything about this hotel is just right except that the pools were not heated during our visit, and in January that meant the pool was Exhilarating, and I did not stay in long. There are some side pools that we thought might be spas but they also were not heated.

I wish to give highest praise to the check-out staff. We were meant to be picked up at 6:30 am for transport to a river cruise at Chiang Khong, but our driver did not arrive. The desk clerk noticed that we were waiting and approached us about his calling the tour company. He did contact them and the tour company sent a car in time for us to make our cruise. He saved our entire trip. How wonderful that we began our holiday at Imperial River House.

Hotel staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Comfortable, clean rooms, with nicely manicured grounds. Location is not convenient for downtown Chiang Rai, but there are a few places within walking or biking distance. The free hotel shuttle van helps. Also,the hotel has a couple of bicycles available and that is very helpful. The restaurant staff are quite friendly, but the food is unremarkable, boring. The river view is great and staff are adept are arranging excursions.

Beautiful balcony rooms, biggest bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel in room 412. Fantastic service, wonderful staff. Very dirty pool that ended up being closed for 1+ days when we were there. Very expensive tours run by hotel - one to the golden triangle that the hotel arranges was baht3420 plus 7%VAT each. Identical tour arranged in Chiang Rai was 1000baht each, no VAT. Great restaurant. Efficient check in and check out. Two bikes available for guest use. We biked to Chiang Rai and back twice, 15 mins each journey and asked the CR police station if we could leave them there while we explored on foot; no problem. Hotel is not near any little shops, restaurants or markets, which makes what to do in the evenings a bit of a problem but which probably benefits the hotel restaurant - there is nowhere else to go.

wonderful getaway

This is not a luxury hotel. However, it gives people a peaceful and warm feeling. It locates right beside the river Kok. During sunset and sunrise, it is the best time to stay quietly to admire the scenery there. No sound but the birds sing only.
Another good thing is to have breakfast beside the river too.
The room is big and clean. Not luxury as well but clean and with everything you need. The swimming pool is big. Gym is there.
Everything was just out of my expectation!

Wonderful relaxing hotel. Very nicely appointed. Good breakfast buffet especially if you lean towards healthier Thai fare. Rooms are decent size, well maintained with lots of teak and marble. Pool is very large but lacked sufficient chairs for sunny weather gatherings. The small number of rooms gives you the feeling you are staying at some obscure Royalties riverfront villa.

One of the best and most relaxing hotels available

We found this hotel to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in over several trips to Thailand. We really found nothing to complain about from checking in until we checked out. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the modern rooms were very clean and well cared for. This was one of the most peaceful places we could have chosen to stay at and we all enjoyed the pool with its close proximity and views of the river as well as the massage. Although it is a little bit away from such areas as the night market and other shopping etc. the hotel provides an excellent van service for a very reasonable price which can be used to take you where you want to go. Overall we were very satisfied with our visit and intend returning next year

Great and enjoyable hotel in Chiang Rai.

We really enjoyed the hotel. Breakfast and dining in the garden restaurant were a treat. The pool looked great and we were sorry not to have the time to use it. Rooms are very nice, very clean and spacious. Reception area is very nice. Dinner was very good. The breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing to my husband, who is used to business hotel buffets.

Loved my stay here! Food was amazing! Expensive for Thailand, but reasonable for hotel prices - just so tasty! Breakfast was reasonable. Service from all staff outstanding! Amazing pool! Lovely massage service. Again expensive for Thailand but reasonable for hotel prices. About 30 min walk to the centre of town. Once there, easy to find a tuk tuk back. The hotel offers a shuttle into town and back but you have to pay. Highly recommend.

A wonderful retreat in beautiful surroundings

A very pleasant hotel situated on the river - hence the name - with friendly helpful staff and a short drive to the heart of Chiangrai. My family and I enjoyed two great nights there and I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others.

Every staff was kind with good smile.

We arrived the hotel before noon. Even though our early arrival, we could check-in our room without any additional charge. If 3 guests would stay, no extra bed is required , because the installed long chair is big enough to sleep.

Unfortunately for resort there were only 3 rooms occupied on at least one night I was there. With more staff then guests, service was outstanding. I would love to spend more time there. Location is a little far from town but this is easily handled by hotel transport to town on demand at a token cost of 100THB. Tuk Tuk back is only 120THB, although I was told they would pick you up if you phoned. There was no need to go out to dine at night as the hotel restaurant was more than adequate. Included airport transfers were a nice addition. The trip to the Golden Triangle arranged through the hotel was very well done and at a reasonable price.

Good afternoon, I would like to thank everyone at imperial river house resort changrai for a very satisfying stay over the last 4 days.
The staffs are very polite and courteous, everyday they welcome me with a smile and greeting and I really mean every day, every time I see a staff of the hotel, be in the receptionist, drivers, waiters, cooks, even the lady sweeping the floors smiles at me every day, superb service, I have never been to a hotel with such high standard of curteousy.Also quite surprised to find that they can converse in more than just simple English.. I would say their English is far better than some of the big hotels in Bangkok.
I would also like to comment on their attentiveness
I touch down in changrai on the 11th may noon, I check into your hotel about evening time. I didn’t tell anyone in the hotel that 12th may was my birthday. But when I went down to the lobby on the 12th, almost everyone greets me with a “happy birthday”! I was greatly surprised and realize that the receptionist saw my date of birth when I check in. I was greatly surprised and also very happy and also to top it off, after I came back in evening, I found a small cake in my room. It was a small gesture from the hotel, but it was a big issue in my heart.
I would like to thank everyone in river house for my last few days in changrai, it was a very good experience, and everyone really service with a smile and really shows that Thailand is the land of smiles. I would like again to thank everyone again. I have been travelling regularly and been staying in many hotels around the world and River House got to be 1 of the best in terms of service.

very nice hotel

the pooms are big and confortable. The restourant very good. Service veru good.
The lockation is out of the city. Very quit and nice river side. Very easy to start if you travel north for sightseeing. In the evening they provide transportation to the city center
