Far better than the impression you get from the photos on Expedia. Lovely spacious suite with private pool terrace. Very well appointed. Comfortable firm bed. Great hotel service. Food in the restaurant good not great - service a little confused too. Especially odd was the mismatch between the names of the dishes on the menu and what you actually get.

The hotel is lovely however it needs some work. The rooms are outdated. The AC in my room didn’t work and after calling three times to have it resolved they ended up finally moving me to a room nearby to sleep.
The staff needs some training. They were friendly but didn’t seem to know how to help.

This is an exceptional hotel and having travelled to over ninety countries, and having stayed at many unique five star properties, I do not hesitate to number this hotel as one of the select properties.
The grounds around the hotel, are fantastic for strolling and you can tour the vineyards and see the grapes being cultivated and the area around the outdoor pool is beautiful. You also have a private patio area adjacent to the hotel room and access to internal courtyards.
The hotel is set on a stunning wine farm which goes back over 300 years but has very modern buildings with great ambience.
It offers easy access to hiking trails and one can rent a bicycle to
access the nearby countryside. I would recommend the e bicycles as the one speed bicycles are heavy, don’t handle well and require a lot of hard work to cycle up and down the rolling hills near the hotel. (Think of the heavy, utilitarian old-style bikes of Amsterdam; a moto cross or mountain bike would be much more appropriate. But this is a minor complaint.
The breakfast buffet is exceptional and the dining room and the pub also offers exceptional food.
The mini bar is offered as a complimentary service and there are some exceptional offerings. The complimentary glass of wine provided upon check in is likewise of exceptional quality.
I loved this hotel so much that for the duration of my stay, I seldom left the grounds. Although I didn’t use the spa service, I can understand why it would be highly rated.

Close to the end of a Cape Lands rainbow

Second stay at this awesome resort. From start to finish, the attention to detail, the warmth of the staff and the setting is perfect.

And, the fellow guests seem to be friendly, proper and seasoned travelers. Even the resident owl (appears at sunset in its designated tree) played its part each night to make the experience special.

Old World Grandeur

Lanzerac Hotel is a grand hotel of a bygone era. Great grounds, staff eager to please, and food that's satisfying and local. We ate at both the casual outside dining, and another night in the more formal dining room. Our junior suite was exactly what we hoped for -- large, airy (high ceiling) and furnished stylishly. Lanzerac is outside the town of Stellenbosch which is not the greatest area for tourists. With a car, Lanzerac is worth experiencing if you enjoy historic properties.

Expected much better from this establishment!

We generally enjoyed the stay. However the dining service was not within our expectations. The breakfast service was especially poor. The waiters were not focused on their work. They mixed orders, were slow to deliver food items and failed to pay attention to detail. The room stewards were disrespectful and entered a room despite being informed that the turn down service was not required!

Beautiful hotel.

Beautiful hotel just outside Stellenbosch right in the heart of the winelands.
Fabulous room - we stayed in a standard room, but felt like we were staying in small suite.
Staff were excellent and could not do enough to help us.
Food in the restaurant was delicious for both breakfast and dinner.
Beautiful swimming pool.
Fabulous wine.

Beautiful Hotel and Spa, in a stunning location

We had a great time staying here for 1 night, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the room was amazing and huge with a very comfortable bed. We had dinner in the restaurant which was beautiful, and also did a wine tasting - their Pinotage is amazing. I would also highly recommend the spa, I had a very relaxing massage there. We enjoyed every second of our stay at Lanzerac.

Lanzerac Hotel.

This hotel grows on you. They have delightful dining options, the food excellent & the ambiance of the whole Estate is first class. Our only problem was with the bedroom & bathroom which, whilst very spacious, is looking rather tired however, we understand, that extensive refurbishment work is being carried out during 2015.
Altogether, we enjoyed our four days at the Lanzerac immensely & would not hesitate to go back.

We had an absolutely fabolous time in Lanzarac and can only recommend it. Fantastic service, amazing food, great surroundings and beautiful hotel including the wine and cigar lounge, which an extra touch to the place. A great off-set to a wine tour in Stellenbosch. We only wish they had room for us for more than one day.

Perfection.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay in this hotel. It felt luxurious from the moment we arrived on the tree lined drive. The staff were all friendly and accommodating taking a fussy child in their stride. We loved the restaurant, meals on the terrace and in the deli. The wine tasting was great.
The only criticism would be that the restaurant menu was too restrictive for 4 nights so we ate out on the last night.

Wonderful setting.

The general feel of the establishment is outstanding and the buildings ooze history and charm. General service levels are good but let down by disappointingly sloppy housekeeping staff. Good food and dining room staff very good. Overall a happy experience.

Somthing Missing,

My wife and I decided to take a coupple of nights to celebrate our aniversary at Lanzerac. We booked a luxury room, only to be given a classic room, then told that the room was a luxury room when it was obvious that it was not. We were told that our room had a private pool- which was actually shared between three rooms and had any number of gardeners and pool cleaners making noise and certainly disturbing any sence of privacy. The room was dusty and had major cobwebs. The restaurant got our room service order wrong and delivered the wrong meal. All in all the basic little details were missing, no welcome fruit in the room, no paper in the stationary pad, no salt in the salt sellers, all in all we felt that for a five star hotel the amount of mishaps was inexcusable. We were left feeling taken advantage of, and we won't be coming back!

Tired hotel not worthy of five stars

Booked two nights but stayed only one. Twice found the room allocated to us was dirty. Two people at the reception and one rather old but friendly helper could not assist us much. No hotel manager anywhere on the property either. Friendliness cannot make up for poor service, though it is always appreciated. After Hotels.com intervened we were upgraded to a rather tired looking junior suite. This privately owned hotel would do better to downgrade itself and rebuild it's service. How it was awarded a Luxury Hotel Award in 2011 I cannot understand. Three tiny soap, conditioner and shampoo bottles are also the only consumable found in our room. Nothing more than a one star hotel would have put in their rooms. Final issue after several was our discovery that the services offered by the hotel, in particular the gym or fitness centre, no longer existed even though the hotel is advertised as having them. Remember this is a FIVE star hotel!

Advice to the hotel manager: issue a small vacuum cleaner to cleaning staff to collect pubic hair from baths, shower and toilet areas before guests move in. Have them flush used toilets before guests move in. Invest in proper toiletries and extras in your rooms to welcome guests. Spend some time in other 5 star hotels to better understand what 5 star service really means. Heck, try 4 stars if that's too big a leap for you!

As this was a huge occasion for us (wedding anniversary) we were hugely disappointed with choosing this hotel, especially in light of all the real 5 star hotels in the Cape Town region. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone.
