A lovely and unassuming hotel that does everything well and has a gracious and pleasant staff that makes you feel very much at home. Excellent and comprehensive breakfast. Be prepared to do a little hiking to get to your spacious room, but it's worth it when you get there. Wonderful people. Short walk to the town center, market, cafés...

A mixed review

This hotel was a mix of great and not so great for me. The town of San Pantaleo was really cute and it grew on me more and more. I am happy we stayed there. The hotel I will outline in pros and cons.

Pros
* Incredible staff. Front desk staff always ready to help. Restaurant staff spectacular!!! I can’t say enough about them.
* Restaurant was awesome. Food excellent overall. Dinners were great and breakfast was outstanding. Lots of choices and the coffee out of this world!
* Lobby had a nice sitting area with a tv. Comfortable to hang out.
*. Pool was really nice! Nice views over the mountains and valley from the pool. Great place to hang out.
Cons
* I’ve come to notice that with Hotels.com you often get the worst room. We certainly must have gotten the worst room. No view, garden facing so the mosquitos were always there. All the other rooms had nice terraces and views.
* The bed aside from being hard had a thick mattress cover that made you sweat and feel like the bed was damp. Super awful feeling.
* The hairdryer in the bathroom is one of those really old plastic ones that heat up hot in two minutes and burn your hand while not drying your hair at all.
* The room was more of a 2-3 star affair. Not even close to 4 stars. Very basic. Not very comfortable.

While I clearly hated the room, the hotel in general had such a nice feel that I always looked forward to coming back at the end of the day.

Little gem tucked away in the hills

Amazing hotel tucked away in the hills of the Costa Smeralda. The scenery is stunning and the village really comes alive at night. We loved our stay here!!!

One of my favourite hotels ever ~ Perfect location for the major Costa Smeralda beaches (if have car), friendliest staff and a view that you can never get bored of.

San Panteleo as a place is also majestic with a variety of restaurants and bars, as well as a lovely market to enjoy.

Could not recommend this place high enough

This is a beautiful property, totally opposite to a bland hotel chain type hotel. Our room was large and comfortable with complimentary tea and coffee with kettle in room. The pool area is relaxing . It was a pleasure to stay here. The village of San Pantaleo is delightful.

Lovely boutique stay in a cute village

Lovely boutique style hotel, a few minutes walk into the centre of the village where there's a wide selection of bars and restaurants. They have a daily transfer service (free) to the beach or you can walk there in 90 minutes on a lovely rural trail. The hotel itself is in great condition, the rooms and comfortable and spacious, the pool area is a good size.

Nice hotel in a good location

We very much enjoyed our stay. Nice facilities with good views and great staff. Breakfast was very good and we ate in the restaurant once which was also a good standard. The nearby village is pleasant with some nice restaurants and we hired a car to visit nearby beaches.

We stayed for a week. Wonderful Hotel situated in San Pantaleo, a small gem not far from Costa Smeralda. The Hotel is really nice, the staff is very kind and professional. Highly recommended.

This hotel manages to marry being 4 Star, while also being the sweetest and welcoming hotel I've had the pleasure of staying in. Unbelievable setting, beautifully thought out flora (the scent of jasmine flowing throughout the hotel wonderfully), delicious food and a tranquil atmosphere. Very short walk to the village, but right at the very end of it; so you really feel a sense of peace.

Cannot sing this hotel's praises enough. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality!

Great hotel in the lovely village of San Pantaleo

We stayed at the Hotel Arathena for a week in early June. All the staff were very friendly and the rooms spotlessly clean. There are a lot of steps to negotiate, especially if you opt for a room near the top of the hotel. As there is no lift, this could be an issue for guests with limited mobility. We were rather disappointed that the restaurant was closed during our stay, although there's plenty of choice of places to eat in the village itself (a short walk away).

The hotel is an easy walk to the village centre.

The village is small and friendly. It's a pleasant place to walk around and have a coffee in the main square - which comes to life on Thursday mornings: market morning. There are a couple of small supermarkets, and both they and the local butcher will fill rolls for your lunch. We totally recommend the roast meat from the butcher's - delicious!

Beautiful hotel

Beautiful but basic hotel in stunning location. Perfect mountain retreat. Quiet and gentile which is what we wanted. Great atmosphere to the place with friendly helpful staff. Restaurant food was awesome but breakfast was a bit samey! Lovely room with fantastic view from balcony. Outdoor pool was chilly (late September) but was perfect sun trap for lazing with a book and taking in some stunning views. Would definitely go back.

Nice hotel with fantastic views...

A lovely hotel with a rustic, countryside charm. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a superior room which was well proportioned and had fantastic views of the neighbouring mountains, in fact the views from most parts of the hotel were pretty spectacular. Our room was very clean and well maintained throughout our stay. Breakfast was included in our room rate which was a typical buffet style, perfectly adequate. The hotel is let down by uncomfortable matresses and less than four star service.

The matress was very hard and had a plastic sheet on top presumably to prevent damage to the matress, this made us sweat and prevented us from having a good nights sleep. An extra layer between the sheet and matress protector, perhaps in the form of a matress topper, would have been very welcome.

The staff were not always very helpful and spent a lot of time socialising with their colleagues, this is fine but not when it detracts from the service of customers. There was a small charge for the use of a beach towel to take to the beach for which I wanted to pay cash, however the receptionist insisted the fee be charged to the room. Once the fee was payed the towel can be kept for the duration of stay, there was no information about how to get the towel washed.

A car is recommended if staying here as San Pantaleo, charming as it is, is a little limited. The hotel offers a free shuttle to one of the nearby beaches, but there are so many others to explore.

Lovely location with great views of the foothills.

I was really impressed by the modern decor of the hotel as well as the friendly and fun loving staff! The restaurant had an excellent choice of food with some great local dishes and an impressive selection of varied local wines.

The waiters did their job marvellously and are a great credit to the hotel - keep up the good work guys :-) Also, the reception staff, cleaners and hotel porters were very kind and helpful.

The only slight downside is the Wifi isn't very reliable and the bed was a bit hard and the room air con takes a little working out but all in all a great stay in a great hotel!

Amazing hotel!

We absolutely loved our stay at Arathena. Couldn't fault the hotel, it was clean, quiet, pretty and staff were really helpful. Pool area was so peaceful with stunning views. Always quiet even in August and usually got a lounger to relax on. Rooms were so clean and facilities were fine. Lovely setting 3 minute stroll to pretty little town with bars and a few restaurants. Great market on a Thursday. There is a free shuttle bus to a beach every day but we got a scooter which meant we could visit the area. Definately get your own transport! Roads were good and well signed. Places we loved were Porto Cervo which was great for people watching and surprisingly inexpensive to eat and drink. Amazing boat trip from Palau around the Maddalena Islands. Nice beaches at Cagglione, Baja Sardinia and around Porto Cervo. Porto Rotondo also worth a trip. Arathena was a great base to visit these from. All under a 30 minute scooter ride.

What a greta place all round, great price and amazing breakfast in a magical setting and beautiful village. best place to stay in the region , easy with a car to access porto cervo / rotondo and the great beaches on the coast. would highly recommend to anyone.

Hotel Arathena - peace and quiet

Very nice hotel in authentic location rather than somewhat artificial tourist spots of Porto Cerva and Porto Rotondo. Rooms simple but clean and comfortable. Breakfast typically continental - an advantage to get up early as a seeming reluctance to top up food when it gets low! Pool small but adequate given most go to nearby beaches. A car essential to get around to see nearby sights although free shuttle provided to nearby beach. In-house restaurant good but slightly expensive. Plenty of parking at hotel. Must take boat tour of Maddalena archipelago from Palau but look for less crowded boats - good value.

Overall would recommend if looking for quiet spot off beaten track. If lively commercial area what you are looking for than suggest you go elsewhere.

quel paix même en plein Aout !!! superbe chambre et salle de bain , d'une propreté impeccable et un personnel surtout au petit déjeuner d'une gentillesse et serviabilité que beaucoup de 4* ou 5* devrait prendre en exemple .
un séjour paisible , dans un petit village très animé le soir .
les plages sont à 15/20 minutes de voiture maximum .

Our experience at Arathena was just wonderful! Staff was very friendly and helpful and even supported me with an amazing birthday surprise for my boyfriend during the dinner. They went above and beyond! The food was top notch as well, we ate twice there because it was so good. We absolutely enjoyed the great atmosphere at the hotel and the highlight is for sure the dining area with the beautiful terrace. We will definitely return!

Hyggeligt hotel udefra. Morgenmadsområdet er hyggeligt, og morgenmaden er god. Poolområdet er meget lille, og der er ikke plads til så mange omkring poolen.
De har værelser egnet til ældre eller handikappet, hvilket jo egentlig er positivt. Vi fik dog sådan et værelse som ungt par, hvilket fjernede charmen fra hotellet, som vi i forvejen havde betalt meget for. Dette burde fremgå af værelsesbeskrivelserne, så man enten aktivt vælger det, eller kan vælge et andet hotel. Overordnet set en skuffende oplevelse.

Das Personal war das eines 5 Sterne Hotels! Wirklich TOP ein grosses Lob an die Mitarbeiter! Reinigung und Sauberkeit war makellos! Top Frühstück!
Leider war das Bett zu hart (evtl. Geschmackssache), ein Wasserkocher wäre nicht schlecht im Zimmer gewesen! Und Badetücher für die Liegen am Pool wären schön gewesen. Aber im ganzem war es ein schöner Aufenthalt! Danke!

Booked this for just one night as we needed a place fairly close to airport before flying home but we were very pleasantly impressed. The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. Fantastic views and great pool area.
We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good. San Pantaleo is very charming and well worth a visit.
Highly recommend this hotel.

Dejligt ophold i en fantastisk hyggelig by

boede 3 nætter på Arathena. Virkelig hyggeligt hotel, med god service. Lille pool, hvor vi kunne finde solsenge selv her i juli. Gratis shuttlebus til skøn strand 2 gange om dagen med udlån af parasoller. Dejlig morgenmad. Byen er virkelig hyggelig om aftenen med cafeer, butikker med kunsthåndværk og gode spisesteder.
