Our first time to Portugal

It was really wonderful. Cleaning staff was kind. This was our first time trip overseas and we feel it was as good as it could be. Parking was a nightmare every night-they need more parking or a close off site place-it was a complete stress! The rooms were nice but there was not enough space for two people. And it was disappointing when we weren’t allowed to swim in the cool indoor pool because we didn’t have swim caps (of course we could buy them but these kinds of trips add up!) I think they should have been provided. But this was a great area, the beach was beautiful even with the fog coming in and out. Staff was helpful whenever we needed the help. We would stay again.

We had a great time at Vila Gale for only a few days. The location is amazing and the hotel has plenty to offer, including a rather nice gym for a hotel and 2 large pools that are super nice, as well as a steam room and a sauna. Everyone there was super nice, service was a little slow but it was really busy so no real complaints, breakfast was alright. If we're ever back in Ericeria, and we really hope we will be, Vila Gale will certainly be high on the list of where we'll be staying!

Beautiful property over looking the sea on top of a huge rock formation and a cliff along the side- The property is in a beautiful village town. The room with the balcony was amazing The only thing I would suggest is that the room might need a little bit changes - remove the rug, put tile floors or wood floors and maybe add an area rug. The service was great. Everything was clean. The breakfast was very good. We felt so good here and comfortable in this beautiful fishing village town, I will come back here again.

My favorite hotel in Ericeira, built on a peninsula overlooking a surfing beach. Great breakfasts, ample parking and easy to get to from the hotel to the highway.

Amazing view from room, but lacking updated featur

One of the biggest hotel facing the sea, it must have been a gem in the 60s , however despite refurbishment since the, it is now a bit dated and lack some of the high end features. The gym equipments are old and no longer to the norm (sticky plastic handles), pools are OK but basic (what's the point of 3 similar pools, without water fountain for kids, dated plastic slides), the gates to access the beach promenades have had a lock probably for the past 10 years...
The restaurant buffet is good but quite repetitive if staying multiple days, and if vegetarian it gets contaminated but other dishes quickly so you have to be the first.
Overall, not really worth the high price for the facilities, but the view is great though!

One pretty big con though: smoking is allowed on the terraces and next to the pool, even with kids playing right nearby. This made it very hard to enjoy the outdoor sitting and activities.

Overall we enjoyed this hotel. The staff and amenities were wonderful. The hotel room itself felt fairly dated, though it was in good repair and very clean. The beach, and surrounding town was incredible. We could hang out by the pool, spa, hit the beaches or wander along the ocean side walking path or through the town. There was lots to see and do and great restaurants close by.

Our room check in was delayed until almost 4 pm and we were late for a wedding event. the other room was not available until after 6 pm. We arrived after getting on a 6:oo am flight and were very tired and disappointed. Staff tried to be helpful, but having a room prepared for a 3 p.m. check in is essential for hotel business.

Property is dated but nicely kept. There aren’t many ocean front hotels in the area. However property is under renovation and we had to ask to change our room bc they were drilling on upper floor starting very early in the morning. Staff was nice to accommodate and change our room.

Great view. Great breakfast.

The hotel room I had was dated. I still give it five star because one of the staff was really nice there. But my room smelled weird... I asked to move to different room but they couldn't accommodate. Lamp was broken and had to get it replaced when I came in. Also the safe did not work in the room. The view made up for a lot of it but I don't think I would have stayed here for more than a few days in he room I was in. They really need to update the rooms a little more. Pillows were very uncomfortable and bed was squeaky. The breakfast buffet however, was amazing. Who is really cool too. The area is fantastic and everything is in walking distance.

I did not include pictures of the room because it wasn't anything special to to take pics of.

Great view comfortable rooms need update staff bad

We checked in around 10:00 PM. Paula was great the rest of the staff was not. They acted like it was a pain to have us checking in. When we asked where the breakfast was served, how to get to the pool etc. the front desk workers said everything is downstairs. Breakfast was not good. Coffee was horrible. We had to ask for silverware. We had to ask for glasses, napkins The staff was very unhelpful and didn’t want to help with anything We skipped breakfast the 2nd day. It took us 4 tries to find the SPA. ( It’s hidden in the basement down a glassed in walkway. My massage was a 3 out of 5). The location of this hotel is a 5 star! The pool area has been updated and looked lovely. They weren’t providing towels. The interior of the hotel is badly in need of a renovation. The rooms with a view of the ocean have a large balcony with an amazing view, but only have 2 uncomfortable plastic chairs and a small table. This hotel has great potential. Being here reinforced the importance if staff training which this place LACKED. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. Good AC. Towels throughout the entire hotel rooms and SPA need to be retired. They were bare and old. Shampoo and soap were horrible. They were very proud they were organic, which is great, but they didn’t work!

Great location within walking distance to town center and many dining options. Balcony rooms are bigger than the regular rooms, and face the ocean. Amenities are basic. Staff service is friendly. Great buffet breakfast spread. Parking is free on premise. Is the largest hotel in the beach town of Eirciera.

Our family came to Ericeira to learn how to surf. Vila Gala has the best view of the ocean! It’s a very short walk to the center, you can play billiards and swim in the pool during downtime. We had an amazing time!

This hotel is more expensive than others close by but once you arrive you will appreciate that spending a little more is worth every penny. Other properties often do not have double glazing and this particular area in Ericeira can be noisy at night due to it being a very popular meeting point for after hours gatherings with loud music. Also there are daily collections of rubbish and when we stayed in other nearby accommodation we were woken up every morning at 8:10. This did not happen at Vila Gale, it was very quiet and relaxing. We will definitely return to this hotel.

I stayed in this hotel over 15 years ago and was disappointed to find that little or no updating had been carried out since then. The hotel is tired and overdue for refurbishment, rooms are small by modern standards.
It's a shame because the resort has a lot to offer unfortunately Vial Gale has not kept up.

Beware of the mouldy rooms.

The hotel has such potential with an amazing location and views however bedrooms are old and in serious need of updating. Our biggest problem was the mould issue. The bathroom mould was overwhelming and we had to sleep with bathroom doors closed and bedroom windows open. If you havevallergies, stay away, we were miserable for 2 days. The carpet in the room is old, was dirty and you could see the mould where the carpet met the walls. we mentioned this issue at reception but got a lukewarm response. Based on that alone we would not go back, mould is a serious health concern. Additionally this hotel has no accomodations for disabled people, all room have bathtubs that are high, and the one safety bar available is not located in a position to help you in and out of the tub.
Breakfast was average, altough a plentiful buffet. No covid measures of course, everyone touching everything. (Staff was masked thankfully).
Overall, we loved lounging by the pool and listening to the waves crashing...and the view from our room was priceless, shame this mould issue will never bring us back.

This is a refurbished, older property, with a lot of history and character. We loved it. Having a room with a sea-view balcony was the right decision : beautiful. The staff was wonderful, very helpful and pleasant. First class service.

There are many many rooms and you can hear the sounds of the other rooms but especially the doors slams every couple of minutes and it is a lot of noise! Couldn't rest well! The rooms are very dusty, I got a sore throat (and I am not allergic to dust).

Beautiful Hotel! Beautiful spot almost inside the ocean!
The rooms with balcony are good, but they are not great, there are no Double beds only twin and there is a door connecting to the other room, which let’s noise coming in from the other room! Not too pleasing, however the sea noise is worth it and silences the others rooms TV!
Other issue is there should be a comfortable couch a good armchair but there is not and the balcony has really uncomfortable chairs, such a nice place, there is not even a deckchair.
Apart from it is a nice place for reading the staff at breakfast and bar is friendly and the food is quite good!

The views from the hotel were excellent overlooking the sea. 3 pools couldn’t fault it.
I wouldn’t recommend the food, but there are loads of places to eat around there. Very cheap to eat out.

Situated right on the sea coast, this hotel offers amazing and spectacular ocean views — especially at sunset! The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and are skilled in assisting guests in several languages. The room was comfortable.
