The location is right in the middle of old quarter with access to lots of the local cuisines. It’s walkable to beer street and Ha Noi night market. The staff at this hotel is knowledgeable and friendly and daily breakfast was great.

We stayed at twin room on level 4 which was spacious and has a window looking outside to someone's laundry/clothesline 😅
Staff are friendly and helpful. Location is great and works for our day tour pick up location. I didnt bother with a lot of sightseeing places.

What I didnt like about this room is moisture. Room is a bit dark and there is that damp smell all the time.
Later on we moved to another room and it was fine.
We didnt bother with spa or massage service on site.
Breakfast was ok. Small variety but it was fine for me.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Matilda. Located in great area of the old quarter. Lots of shopping, restaurants and good nightlife options, all within a short walking distance. The staff is very friendly and helpful and everyone speaks very good English. Would certainly come back without hesitation!

Maltida worked, medium on mattress (medium and especially soft can be a challenge to find in south east asia). Breakfast was delicious and ample enough variety and good juice and coffee. staff was friendly and helpful. used airport transfer service. my intl phone was acting up at airport, so had to buy vietnam sim to make contact with hotel and coordinate my pickup. arrival area was confusing and chaotic. and lots of tots trying to get you into their transport cars. Overall stay was great. its in very busy portion of old Hanoi, so walking, traffic and tots can be overwhelming.

The front desk staff was very helpful throughout the stay. The rooms were run down. The worst part of the stay was, the cleanliness of the room. There was dust and dirt on things that were never cleaned throughout my stay, the glass cups I used, the staff never actually provided new ones, they put back the old ones without washing and I realized this when looking to use and noticing.

My room had 1x window only and facing the lift ( so very dark and lacking fresh air ), which might be common in this area of Hanoi, but my main issue was regarding the door noises. They are quite heavy and you will hear your neighbours leaving/entering their rooms throughout the night. Breakfast is average

We didn't know what to expect. The Old Quarter is loud cramped. There aren't suitable sidewalks and scooters are everywhere. With that, our hotel was a nice hideaway from the somewhat overwhelming activity outside. Our room was clean and spacious. The blackout curtains allowed us to sleep in. The breakfast was good, and the waiter was so kind and friendly. Every morning, he would joke around with us and tell us about some of the local cuisine. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Of the multiple hotels that I’ve stayed in my several week visit to VN, I found Matilda boutique hotel to be one of the nicer hotels. Morning breakfast was really excellent and the service very very good. They went the extra mile to take care of my needs. I would definitely stay there again. It was a great value for the amount I paid.

The rooms are quite nice but the corridors echo every noise so you hear people coming and going, slamming doors and flushing toilets throughout the night - not much good if you are a light sleeper. Also there is not enough seating at breakfast, I came down at 7.15 planning to leave for a tour at 8 and couldn’t get a seat. 45 minutes later I was able to grab a slice of toast before having to rush out of the door. Service was poor.

We had a wonderful stay at the Matilda Boutique and Spa Hotel.The front desk staff were exceptionally friendly, polite and helpful. Breakfasts were awesome. Great selection and very tasty. Room was cleaned daily. Fresh towels and bottled water provided daily. Location is great. Easy walking distance to Ho Kiem Lake, shopping and numerous restaurants. Would highly recommend. Staffs are very kind and helpful. They cared us customers well. Always cleaned lobby and keep our room comfortable and change bed sheets new everyday. We had enough hot shower.

Specially their Vietnam cuisine breakfast(included to the fee) was more than excellent! Really loved juicy bacon and duck and Vietnam spring roll ;)

They offered massage spa. My partner got it said very nice quality.

The location was also perfect. It was just in Old Town so accessible to everywhere, however, glad still quiet inside the hotel.

We asked to pick-up from and sending to airport, and one day-tour to halong bay through this hotel then they arranged for us well.

Comparing to other the same class hotels, this was very reasonable and worth more than the price.

Really appreciate to lovely staffs to make our stay comfortable :) Vietnamese people are so kind and lovely. If visiting Hanoi again, we must stay this hotel.

Terrible. They wouldn’t serve us coffee when we asked and told us to go elsewhere. Would only issue us one room key and came in our room when we put do not disturb on. First thing first the hotel is in amazing area central location. BUT the rooms are very outdated, small, poorly maintained. The staff is kind and welcoming. Breakfast is ok. ( lots of options around the hotel very cheap food).
And most important!!!!!!
We booked the hotel a head of time and planned to stay for 5 nights. Reservation was approved by property. After 2 nights at the hotel we were notified by the staff that we have to leave the day after because it’s holiday and they are all leaving home the hotel will be closed for 4 days!!!!!!

As a Platinum member, Expedia said the hotel should have given us free upgrade when rooms are available, especially when the pricing on the booked rooms and the upgraded rooms are the same ($50). We did not received it upon check-in request, nor the Welcome Drinks (both times as we had booked couple days earlier). No bell/door service to help with luggage. Coffee was served room temperature. Rooftop bar was nonexistent. Definitely not you 4 stars hotels. Expedia needs to reclassify them. Everything seems old. Breakfast was below average compared to other hotels.

NOT a 4 stars hotel, more like a 2 stars. We have been traveling in Vietnam for 2 months so we have stayed in lots of hotels. No Welcome drinks, No Bell/Door service for help with luggage from street ornto room. Small family operation which we often love to support. No table service. Breakfast so-so. No free upgrades for Platinum members on Expedia upon request at check-in--there were two Junior Suites (for same price) but they did trade us up. :-(

We recently stayed at Matilda boutique and what can I say besides OMG. Hang was a lovely manager. She took care of us from check in to check out. The room was exquisite and by all means comfortable. The water was warm and the sheets were clean. The hotel was in such a convenient location that it was just a short stroll to everything we required. The breakfast had an assortment of options all deliciously crafted by their in-house chef. I would without question recommend this hotel to anybody staying in Hanoi.

The hotel is in a great location to explore the old quarter. It is clean and well presented, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast options were good and could do made-to-order. The room was quite small (a classic double) and I had actually tried to update with hotels.com before arriving but it had not updated in the hotels’s system and they did not have availability to upgrade which was a shame. However it did not impact our stay that much, and I would recommend as great value for money for a short stay in Hanoi.

Pretty hotel and room. Clean. Comfortable bed. Good central location in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Quiet at most times but a little noisy on weekend nights up to about 10:30 (my room was towards the street; those directly on the street would be even noisier I assume). Good breakfast. A big plus was the staff, who spoke good English and were very helpful. In particular Hang helped me with a problem I was having communicating with my bank in the US and with other questions I had during my stay.

Can't beat the location for exploring the old quarter everything is within 5 minutes walk, staff very friendly only thing I noticed is the roof top bar is no longer open however you can still take your own drinks and chill sunbathe up there and the doors to the rooms weren't very soundproof i would recommend using ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Beds and pillows extremely comfy I slept very well

The hotel is very centrally located in the heart of the action. If you don't mind some car/ moto bike honking, this is the place for you! Reception staff is friendly and helpful. The staff speak and understand English well.

You can very easily find a place to eat or have coffee right outside the hotel doors or within walking distance.

The bustling "night market" is an experience for sure. Get ready to see the locals and lots and lots of people including tourists of course.

Breakfast buffet here is also amazing. You can order eggs but ask for them to be made without milk, otherwise they are runny. I feel the addition of signs identifying food items would be beneficial. I asked every day what several items were.

The hotel is able to exchange currency. I exchanged my US dollars to vn dong here.

I also went to the spa for a green tea body scrub (smelled like green tea) and a body massage. The gal that did my massage was very young. She may still be learning but the massage was not the best I've had. Hotel guests receive a discount on spa services and the spa is open late.

The hotel also offers airport transfer at an additonal cost via driver/ cab service.

I would definitely recommend this place to friends and stay here again if I were to return to Hanoi.

Awful experience with substandard hotel

I recently had a disappointing experience at this hotel. I had booked a room with a king bed and a city view, but upon arrival, my four-night booking was not even in their system. The room I was given had two twin beds pushed together and a view of someone else's balcony.

To make matters worse, the room was unclean and tired, showers direct and rusting, and half bottles of complementary shower gel left in the room. The air conditioning unit also blew directly onto the bed, making it impossible to achieve an optimum room temperature. The housekeepers were so noisy in the morning too!

We ended up checking out the next morning as it wasn’t a nice experience or sleep. Despite the hotel's promise to refund me for the nights I didn't stay, they ended up rejecting my claim through hotels.com.

Overall, it was a poor hotel experience. The unfulfilled booking, substandard room, uncleanliness, noisy housekeepers, and lack of 24-hour reception were major drawbacks. I would caution others to reconsider staying at this hotel!

the service of the staff is unbeatable at the front desk. they helped me arrange and book tours to halong and ninh binh, helped me plan and organize my trip, and everything in between. hang vu was fantastic especially.

the location is very good, very walkable and accessible, with restaurants, bars, everything very closeby. at night it isn't loud or bothersome, and the rooms are relatively spacious and clean.

i would definitely return.
