Great Location for Opera, but Falls Short on Value

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Bregenz during the opera season and booked a junior suite for around EUR 500 per night – so expectations were high. The location was a highlight – right between the train station and the Bregenz Opera, perfect for attending performances. However, you can’t really see the lake from the room as a park blocks the view.

Check-in was mixed – there’s a dedicated desk for ALL loyalty members, but it wasn’t enforced, so we waited in line with everyone else despite having status. The suite itself was large, modern, and spotless, but faced the parking lot with no balcony – not ideal for the price.

The biggest surprise was the SPA – not heavily advertised but truly relaxing. We enjoyed the indoor pool and saunas, which were quiet and well-kept.

Breakfast was frustrating. A confusing booking system meant several tables were “reserved” but unoccupied while other guests, including us, had to wait. No structured queue made it feel chaotic. Once seated, the buffet was good – fresh fruit and decent variety – but we later discovered there’s a hidden à la carte menu (omelettes, etc.) that’s not offered to all guests. That felt unfair.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay with some downsides. The price-to-quality ratio was below expectations – I expected more consistency and attention to detail for this level of pricing.

Perfect location right next to the train station, the casino and the waterfront. The rooms were as pictured and the hotel staff was courteous and helpful. We were a week before high season so they didn't yet have full restaurant service, but the bar was fine for coffee, drinks and snacks. We'd definitely stay here again.

The hotel itself was very nice, except the restaurant was closed when we were there. Which was a pain. The parking was oddly far away from the front door. Little confusing when we arrived. The area around the property is very run down, and not well kept. Lots of leaves and trash on sidewalks. Had a creepy vibe, especially at night. Not far from the lake. But, lake was packed with tourists. No great place to get coffee or good food right near the hotel

Lovely hotel, room, setting.
Clean and spacious room.
Although bad part was booking a table for a meal.
After speaking to what looked like the bar manager he says 7pm so we had a drink at the bar to wait. He suggested nibbles which we had and got charged over the top for them
7pm came and went and we enquired if our table was ready at 7.20pm. he shrugged us off and ignored us after this so we ended up leaving at 7.45 to find a restaurant elsewhere. Rude man.

Hotel convenient to train station and lake.
Check in was not smooth as the first room assigned to us reeked of smoke. Fortunately this was quickly remedied and we were moved to another room.
Also at the welcome reception there was a bit of a language barrier or misunderstanding as the option to not clean the room wasn’t explained correctly…she told us it wouldn’t be cleaned for 1 day which would have been fine, but it wasn’t cleaned for our entire stay. We did ask to have it cleaned, but it never was.
Tip: go up to the pool area and get clean towels from there.
The shower stall seal was ineffective and flooded the floor.
Hotel rents decent bicycles at a much lower price than the bike rental shops in town.
Overall, our stay wasn’t “grand”… was expecting a more luxurious experience for that price.

This property could be a great place. However there was minimal service( we waited at the bar for over 10 min and then left), the toilet didn’t flush well, and there was a hideous black stain on the carpet. What staff were there were nice, and the location, about 2 blocks from the lake, was ideal.

I hated this hotel to be honest. Unless you want to spend a lot of time at the casino I see no reason to stay here. First they made us park about a 1/4 mile from the hotel in a gravel lot when there is a ton of parking right in front of the hotel but we were told that was only for casino guests. They have no where to unload your baggage either so you are expected to walk with all your luggage from the P2 lot. Ridiculous. The bed was as hard as any I’ve ever seen, I could barely stand it, I slept horribly, and my back was killing me the next day. The balcony looks over trash and has no view except of cranes doing construction, which was loud and distracting. The breakfast is expensive so we did not go. There is a very large step into the shower, it sits up at least 9-10 inches, which is very unsafe, especially getting out when wet as there is nothing to hold onto. No English channels or access to Netflix or something on tv (except news). I stayed at 5 hotels on my European vacation and this was by far the worst.

This is a great hotel. The staff are excellent and so attentive. The facilities are amazing and the spa/sauna services are great.
Unfortunately we didn't have great weather for our stay so we made full use of the spa facilities and had a very relaxing stay.
Rooms are large and well equipped. It would have been good if the Cast functionality had worked on the TV, but that is not vitally important.
Location is excellent with only a short walk to restaurants and shopping, plus the promenade next to the lake is beautiful.
Parking is very reasonable and easy to navigate.
Overall great stay with Grand Hotel. I would definitely recommend.

Neither lakeside nor lake view despite claims on accor

Whenever I book a hotel, I always look at both hotels.com and the hotel's own website, in this case accor.com, in order to get a full picture. Hotels.com correctly makes no mention of \"lake view,\" but accor clearly indicates that even the lowest room category (Classic) offers either lake view or city view. I mistakenly assumed that the hotel's site was more complete and happily booked on hotels.com anticipating a lovely 3 day stay on the beautiful Bodensee. I was thrillled at the prospect of relaxing & gazing at the lovely lake from my room for hours on end. I booked 5 months in advance. Upon arrival, I repeated my request at check-in for a lake view room as indicated in the \"special requests\" section of my hotels.com reservation. I was advised that no such views existed! After communicating with management, I was advised that the accor website should have stated \"lake side,\" instead of \"lake view,\" but that is also false as there are huge 10 story buildings between the lake and the 3 story hotel. I received merely an apology from the hotel -- no free breakfast, no upgrade, no discount, no voucher for a future visit, nothing. They already had a guarantee of my payment & were apparently not interested in making amends for their false advertising. So, a fail on customer service where they had a chance to attempt to make up for their initial failure. I will definitely return to Bregenz but never to the Mgallery. FYI, this Mgallery was formerly branded a Mercure.

Miss understanding at check in as the receptionist didn’t catch my name. If he had taken the passport it would have been much simpler and not stressful. The air conditioning was not good and the nights were very uncomfortable. There were no draws for underwear or t.shirts!
Considering we used our bonus nights for this Hotel we were very disappointed with the room.
We were above the car park entrance where cars were cleaned each morning so to compensate for the poor air conditioning we were unable to open the window.
The room was very clean.
However to have used our bonus nights for this accommodation we are very disappointed and disillusioned with Hotels.com.
We didn’t receive any other bonuses and we are considering whether we should continue to use Hotels.com if this is the quality of accommodation that is given by the Hotel.
We had one drink and didn’t use any of the facilities in the Hotel.
Overall very disappointing.

This was a great hotel! Excellent location, rooms were very large, super clean, nice shower with great amenities. The bar happy hour was a nice touch as well! I’d like to specifically state how great and accommodating the staff was. They went out of their way to assist us with finding a Covid test for our trip home. This included detailed directions to the test site, assisting with translation and printing the necessary forms. We hope to return soon and bring back some our friends!

Super find-city and hotel!

Very nice hotel! Friendly staff that we met,like Daisy! Great bed, great location, quiet, windows open fully, Prosecco upon arrival! Ate around the corner, dinner was great, the breakfast they offered wasn't, at 10am. Definitely we will be back! Going to check out the casino. Looking for another good rate. Beautiful city and park on site!

Hotel under construction and noisy. Location is hard to find as it is hidden behind train station away from city activities. A/C did not work well. Plenty of air but warm. Book somewhere else. Have stayed at Mercure hotels before this was very disappointing

Nice location on lake side right next to the theater, casino and train station. Clean room, but no amenities in the room besides the minimum. Disappointed with the staff during breakfast, as they misinformed me of closing time on check-in and then proceeded to give away the table they'd previously assigned to myself and my company. Stressed no doubt but still. On the whole a pleasant but somewhat bland experience. I'd try a different hotel next time.

Rooms were small and they tried to put us on the first floor in a room where the windows would barely open and there was no a/c. When I complained, they moved us. We were unable to find parking, but had we found it, they would have charged us an additional 40E a day to park! As it was, we got a parking ticket. Also, the hotel is just over the border in Austria. We had been traveling in Germany, and returned (it's about 5 miles away) right after our stay. We were pulled over in a \"ticket scam\" and given a ticket for 180E for not having an Austrian 8E ticket on our car. They told us that there were signs everywhere advising this, but I can assure you, I didn't see any, and we drove ourselves. Lake Constance is probably very pretty, but I was not happy with this town or the hotel (not to mention the Austrian highway patrol!)

Expedia offered me an option of smoking and non smoking room and I chose a smoking room but when we arrived at the hotel, they were a 100% non smoking hotel. There were a dead spider hanging from the ceiling during our entire stay. There was a kid running in the hallways every morning particularly during the hours of the maids cleaning the rooms. Not sure if she was with them.

Hotel staff were very gracious when we asked for a room change, when the room we were given reeked of smoke. When I booked room through Hotels.com, I must have forgotten to ask for a non-smoking room. We experienced some rain, so in between showers we walked around the lovely lake, and were really impressed with the \"opera\" set. I'm sure this is an unbelieveable venue to view such an elaborate setting. Very nice stop while touring through Bavaria.

Mercure Bregenz, perfect for the Opera

The setting was perfect; and the breakfast marvellous. Unfortunately the staff at the desk were quite rude - one man in particular stopped dealing with us when we were checking out, took a phone call, and kept us waiting for about ten minutes. This unfortunately gives a very bad impression as one leaves the hotel. The room was poky and there was no AC (and it was very hot at the time of our visit). But it served our purpose very well, as we came to the opera festival.

Excellent location for train travellers..just a few steps away from station. An inviting, gracious, helpful staff. The room was warm and quiet with necessary amenities and a lovely view of restful landscaping and for us a partial view of the lake. Breakfast was outstanding. Food presentation exquisite along with quality and choice. We could make our own cappuccinos, or have them served to us! I can see a longer stay next time.

Great location

The best part about this hotel is the location. It is next to the Bregenx opera house and Lake Constance. The train station is 200 meters away and all of the great hiking that Bregenz has to offer is very easily accessed from the hotel.
The bed was a little uncomfortable and the shower did not function, but the staff was very respoinsive.

Unbeatable location for the price

The only thing that I didn't like is a parking: it's 200 hundreds meters away, although there is a huge parking lot which belongs to casino located in the same building. The plastic card-key which suppose to open the gate does not work and you have to call the intercom every time when you need to get in.
All the rest is really nice value for your money!

Wir waren begeistert! Tolles Hotel, super Frühstück und Zimmer sehr sauber und schön eingerichtet.
Überhaupt ist es im ganzen Hotel sehr schön.
Klare Empfehlung.
Das Personal war auch sehr freundlich und nett, danke!

Hotel prima maar ,s avonds dineren is super duur en ook niet smaakvol. Eén keer Flammkuchen terug gegeven. Het was een halve voor 16 euro en ,‘s ochtends klaar gemaakt.

Wir waren am Wochenende beim Hafenfest und haben es genossen, alles zu Fuß machen zu können!
Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und sogar als um 11 Uhr das Frühstück abgeräumt wurde, wurden wir gefragt, ob wir noch etwas brauchen!

Schönes Hotel nahe Festspielhaus

Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Große Früchte/Brot/Wurst&Käse Auswahl.
Das Festspielhaus ist in Laufnähe.
Wir hatten ein Executive Zimmer mit Balkon.
Die Größe des Zimmers war gut.

Leider waren die kopfkissen etwas zu dick.
Wir haben keine Rechnung für die Nebenkosten erhalten, das war sehr schade.
Wurde auch nicht zugeschickt.
