Hotel Vis a Vis was absolutely beautiful, the view was spectacular from every angle , the outdoor snack bar to the restaurant to our room was a wow factor , the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to accommodate your every need. I highly recommend and will definitely be coming back .

Room was a little small for the price we’d paid. My husband and I had to squeeze around one another (room 308). The views of bay of silence were lovely and the bed was comfy. Good selection for the breakfast and nice to be able to sit outside al fresco for breakfast with lovely views. The inside restaurant was also beautiful and had amazing views.
The pool area was great, pool staff very attentive. Again lovely views from the pool area. There’s a side gate from the pool area down to the town which is a shortcut 5-7 min walk.

You cannot take their beach towels to the beach, you have to pay €5 per day for special towels, which we felt was poor considering how much we had paid for the room.

Drinks prices a little high, a Mocktail was €15 and a bottle of beer €9.

Slightly disappointing on the checkout we asked if we could use their shuttle to go to the train station with our luggage, they never told us there was a fee for this service, so we’d assumed it was complimentary (as a lot of hotels offer a free shuttle). However it was €15 euros to go 5 mins down the road and the driver didn’t have any change, so we ended up paying €20. So we felt rather ripped off with that experience.

Overall a nice hotel, but don’t feel it was worth what we paid

We had the best week at Vis a Vis for our honeymoon. We cannot recommend it highly enough! Incredible location with views breathtaking views that you can’t even imagine. The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond, especially the Restaurant Olimpo staff. We highly recommend booking a room with a balcony or terrace and ordering the room service breakfast.
Very accessible to private and public beaches, a very quick walk. The hotel can help you reserve chairs at a beach club or you can go to the public I beach if you want. We can’t wait to go back!

Exceptional staff, could not have been friendlier or more professional. Not a detail missed - even offering to make a breakfast box as I was catching a 7am train into C5 and thus missing the (spectacular) breakfast buffet.

Room was lovely, everything worked and their designer clearly thought every detail through. Veranda was a real treat and gave a wonderful sense of space (all rooms have great views).

Rooftop bar was amazing to watch the sunset over an aperitif/light food. “Destination” restaurant on the 4th floor has gourmet food and set menus if you’re looking for something really special - other options are available (although I might just stay on the rooftop!).

Management clearly has inculcated the staff with an exceptional sense of service and care - you can sense if from the amazing front desk staff, restaurant service, ground keepers, house maids, towel service at the pool.

Thrilled to have made this choice for access to, and to soak in, the Portofino coast and C5 area.

The location and beauty of Vis a Vis is 10/10. Sestri is such a charming oittle fishing town and the hotel sits atop the hill perfectly overlooking the water. Very clean space however the pool vacuum is alwahs running during the day making it a bit difficult to enjoy that space with the cord running across the pool. Breakfast from the panoramic restaurant was also a great start to the day. We didn't have a chance to have dinner there though - next time for sure.

Hotel Vis-a-Vis is in a lovely location overlooking and walkable to Sestre Levante and its beaches. Hotel staff are helpful and courteous. The pool area is lovely. One downside is no irons are available (even to borrow from the front desk), which is something I have never experienced in a hotel. The hotel could also consider changing room keys to modern key cards versus clunky room keys, which are difficult to carry around, and making on-site parking free (versus EUR 15/night).

We loved our stay at Hotel Vis a Vis. The views from this hotel are spectacular, the rooms were a bit small but perfectly fine for what we needed and the staff were amazing, very attentive. Sestri is such a beautiful town and I’d highly recommend this hotel if you’re staying there. It’s walking distance to the town and beaches and makes it a convenient location. However if you’re more of a pool person the pool looks over sestri to portofino it was one of the best views from a hotel we’ve ever had. Thank you Hotel Vis a Vis for making our honeymoon so special!

The pillows could use some help all were beautiful on the bed but to sleep on they were way to big so it was hard to get to sleep. other than that everything else was great.

The bar manager Andrea Carnevale absolutely amazing. Even if you don't stay here, be sure to visit the Deck Zeus for one of his famous cocktails!

We had a wonderful stay at Vis a vis! We stayed in a junior suite which was absolutely perfect, beautifully decorated, great spaces built in for storage, comfortable bed, and bedding, and a decent sized bathroom. We were pleasantly surprised to have a huge patio, which wasn’t shown in the photos for the room. The patio was the full length of the room and had multiple seating and lounger options outside. The staff at the hotel front desk were incredibly friendly. We also really enjoyed the complementary breakfast every morning, which had a very nice selection. The town square was just a short few minute walk from the hotel and had great restaurants and options for shopping. We also took the train to a few other locations along the coast. The train station was about a 10 minute walk and was very easy to figure out, with trains running very frequently up until midnight every night. The hotel even arranged a shuttle to take us to the train station with our luggage the day of our departure for $20 euro. This was quite helpful to not have to cart our luggage around town. We visited in early October, so this was the beginning of the slow season, but we enjoyed how calm the town was this time of year, and felt like we could really feel like locals there. If you’re looking for a great hotel in a quaint town away from the craziness of some of the bigger, touristy cities, this is a great spot!

The Vis a Vis has amazing views. Go to the bar for a drink. It’s not worth the price to stay there. It bills itself as a cruise ship on land. That’s true—the rooms are as tiny as cabins on a boat. And at least in my bathroom, there was mildew growing on the ceiling. Also, the toilet seat was misaligned, so you weren’t fully on the toilet when you sat on it. I expect more from a 4 star hotel.

Additionally it’s really loud. Paper thin walls. Not great for light sleepers. And the spa is a complete joke. The facilities aren’t nice. I paid for a 90 minute sports massage. the masseuse seemed utterly clueless as to what she was doing. She spent about 5 minutes on my back, and then texted on her phone for a long time while mindlessly rubbing my left foot with her left hand. She also spent a weird amount of time rubbing my face. I didn’t sign up for a facial.

We stayed one night in the Family Room. We drove from Nice to Pisa, and then back to the Liguria area for sightseeing. Hotel Vis a Vis is a beautiful location in a friendly and beautiful town. We didn’t get to explore the little town of Sestri Levante because we got to the hotel too late but we enjoyed time at the pool, poolside drinks, and an amazing dinner at the Olimpio restaurant within the hotel. It overlooks the town and has the best view. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Paula walked us around the premises and every member of staff from the bar, pool and restaurant were kind and accommodating. My children are asking when we can come again! We would definitely book here again and plan to stay longer.

Beautiful hotel with the most breathtaking views in the area. We stayed in the classic suite for 2 nights, which although outdated and on the small side was comfortable and suffice for a short stay. The staff and the atmosphere on the rooftop bar has a very relaxed vibe and the sunset from there is memorable. Sadly we found the restaurant on the 4th floor on the stiff side and also dated with average cuisine. We never noticed the other restaurant just below the pool area until the day we were departing, it looked more relaxed and updated. Unfortunately we did not get to use the pool but it looked amazing. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely recommend Hotel Vis á Vis.

The hotels has very good position, walking distance to the city centre and to the beach. Not far from the train station (15 mins walk).
You can fins very good facilities, nice swimming pool, lovely terrace on the top floor!

I was just a bit disappointed with my room, as during the booking I have chosen a standard room with a balcony with city views - and I have received a room with a terrace space, surrounded by the concrete walls! So definitely not the view that I wanted.

What an amazing hotel. The views from the hotel are beautiful. The hotel, staff & facilities were excellent & in particular the waiter, Valentino (such a lovely person to chat to & extremely attentive). The quality & choice of food at breakfast & dinner are exceptional although somewhat pricey but worth it. The pool was serviced extremely well & such a lovely place to chill out & relax. We cannot wait to go back next year. Sestri Levante as a town is a delight. Such friendly locals & a nice mixture of shops, cafes & restaurants.

The hotel is lovely. The rooftop bar and main dining room with panoramic views are sensational. No better place to have a drink at sunset, or to enjoy breakfast on top of the world. The hotel staff were all very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Other than the under-sized rooms (typical in Europe) and the lack of a hotel gym, everything was perfect.

Very nice hotel. It has absolutely amazing views, good breakfast, nice rooms, and is close to the train station. It is an easy 40 minute train ride to any of the Cinque Terre. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Sestri Levante is a favorite of Italians.

Was placed in a room right below the kitchen very noisy at night. The hotel had beautiful views and great location but seemed to need updating. I felt I was overcharged for this room. I had accidentally booked for 1 person and on my credit card I had a $88 additional charge for my husband which ended up being over $200 for a night.

Vis aVis is the most beautiful hotel in a sweet town on the Ligurian coast. Staff amazing as are the views. Food excellent. Pool superb. Loved the secret back gate operated by reception which led to a fabulous trek along cliff top - similar to cinque Terra walks.

Excellent location for exploring Cinque Terre and the surrounding area. We were here for 4 nights. Excellent front desk staff, Restaurant staff. Breakfast was available and so was parking for a driving vacation through Italy.
The hotel is conveniently located for the train and bus stations, which we used every day to access different towns.
The views are spectacular from the bar and dining floor. Best we had in 21 Days.
Glad we stayed here instead of one of the smaller Cinque Terre towns, as the restaurants near beach were more numerous and the town was much bigger for anything else you might need.

Off season it was all uncrowded. Lovely.

absolutely gorgeous place, 4 stars. built on a high hill with parking below, then a walk thru a tunnel with purple fluorescent lights! to an elevator just to get up the hill 5 flights to reception. then more flights up to a room with a private terrace and unbelievable views over sestri levante and its twin bays. elegant room, lots of extras in room like slippers! hotel has beautiful pool, terrace, lounge with overstuffed sofas, big screen tv.

The only thing going for it is the view.

The hotel is perched high on a mountain top so the views from the restaurant and the bar are exceptional. This is the only reason to come to this hotel. The staff at the reception are excellent and friendly. The restaurant staff are not. They are indifferent and robotic unless you speak Italian. The breakfast is unremarkable. The rooms are terrible. We were placed in a small room. I wondered if munchkins from the wizard of oz could even fit in there. After asking to switch we were moved the next morning to a slightly larger room which was more comfortable yet quite small. These are European standards I am using not American. I have travelled extensively and stayed at three four and five star hotels. The first room was the smallest ever. The showers are terrible. You burn if some other resident uses the toilet. You can smell smoke from other guests when they smoke in their room. To top it off my wedding band was stollen by the cleaning staff. The town itself is a far cry from the more pleasant and interesting Santa margarita. Overall this hotel is in my opinion the worst four star hotel I have ever stayed at. The town is a bust. If you don't want to stay in portofino or cinque terre make Santa margarita your choice. Skip this hotel and the town for more worthwhile options.

The hotel is on a hillside just outside the old part of town, but the hotel's lift takes you down inside the hill and leaves you just 1 minutes walk from the pedestrian old town and 2 minutes from the promenade - perfect!
There are great views from the dinning room and terrace. The bedrooms are quite small but adequate and if you have a garden room this is a nice additional area for you to use during the day.
Breakfast is just about OK, with decent cold buffet, but the hot food on the buffet looked totally unappetising.
During your stay make sure you visit the hotel's restaurant down in the bay - Portobello - great seafood, beautifully prepared. In addition there are a lot of other very nice restaurants in Sestri Levante.

DISSAPOINTMENT IN SESTRI LEVANTI

Well I was anxious to be able to leave a comment on this particular hotel as
they actually cancelled our room reservation & moved us to another property that did not even come close in comparison!! This was our first trip to Italy and we were so excited about staying at this property based on the pictures but when we arrived we were told that they had to move us to another hotel (sister hotel) as they did not have enough room for us??!! This was booked months in advance; in addition we were sent an email confirmation. Because of the fact that we were visiting from another Country we thought we had no choice but to move to the other property which was such a disappointment. We opted to check out a day earlier than planned & were told by the hotel that they could not refund the 3rd. night because we had done a pre-pay on the room, even though we NEVER STAYED at the hotel we had booked!!! I am writing this review as a \"heads up\" so that hopefully this unfortunate situation not happen again as it was such a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT to us on our first trip to Italy!!!

No Need to Stay Anywhere Else.

The current staff was professional, helpful and made every effort to accommodate our stay. We requested no room service and they made up the room anyway (probably staff communication error surprisingly since everything else was perfect).
One of the best hotels on our trip and would not consider staying anywhere else if visiting again as this was ideal. They also had (old but way fun) bicycles for us to ride around town on which was a blast and the maintenance guy was great helping us to get the bikes ready. Can't say enough good things. Breakfast was tops and they even prepared a box for us for an early morning departure. This stay would have cost us at least $600 in the states.

Can't say enough about the view as they have the prime spot on the hill.

All members of the staff were very helpful and informative! The view is amazing! Breakfast and dinner were very nice. Very highly recommend using this hotel as home base when visiting the Cinque Terra.

Great location with great views.

Positives:
• Wi-Fi works well cellphone “remembers” it.
• Automatic tapparelle,(button on side of bed) creating pitch blackness in room.
• Air conditioning!
• Good closet space and hooks by the front door to hang stuff.
• Location is nice. It’s perched on top of the cliff, however, there is an elevator that takes you down to a lit up tunnel which leads you to the center of town.
• The staff is lovely.
• Free parking
• Free breakfast; dining room has awesome views. Stick to the basics and you will find the breakfast to be fine. They have fruit, yogurts, croissants in various flavors and cereal. I had the hard boiled eggs each day (I only eat the whites) but I found sometimes they were not cooked enough for me and I don't like runny whites)
• Nice pool.

Negatives:
• After realizing our room had no view and little privacy (room 208),we asked if they had any other rooms which they did not. We booked through this website and were told that given our rate (high and not allowed to write here) they couldn’t make changes.
• We noticed cobwebs on the balcony, lights by the bed were dusty, there was pealing behind the sink and the hooks in the bathroom were falling down. HOWEVER, I mentioned all this to the reception desk and they were on it immediately. We appreciated their prompt attention and attitude regarding the matter.
• The room and bathroom were tired and in need of some updates.
• Too noisy and too much splashing at pool by kids running around.

Great views, great pool... Small ,very small rooms

Nice staff, great views with elevation over Sestri Levantra....small average rooms..expensive... Food in restaurants ok.. Am buffet very good.

Sestri Levante Stay

We studied where to stay on a first time trip to Cinque Terre area, and were advised to avoid the towns there, and consider Sestri Levante, as a not too touristy alternative and an easy train ride north to Porto Fino, and south to the towns or boat ride to visit the Cinque Terre towns.
This was the best decision and Hotel idea we had. This hotel is a wonderful find, with a location up on a hill overlooking two bays and the town of Setri Levante. Very few tourist, as town is mostly locales, with great food and wine with reasonable prices. The train, when it ran on time, was easy to walk to.
We can not say enough good things about Vis a Vis, and the service.

Hotel Vis a Vis in Sestre Levente

We stayed two nights for a base to visit Cinque Terre. Hotel was nice with great views. Staff was excellent. Very nice breakfast included. Do not drive your car to the top check in, very tight parking with columns make it difficult to back out . Leave your car below near the tunnel and take the elevator up to check-in. Showers are small. Watch out for gypsy thieves in town. My phone was stolen right from my restaurant table. Don't let down your guard, even for a second.

Excellent stay

Spectacular views, 5 star services and warm staff. The elevator that connects hotel and street level is very convenient for elderly and kids. Free parking, very good breakfast, free wifi. Walking distance to river side and shopping / dining area. Can also purchase boat tour tickets to Portofino from hotel. Highly recommend.

Nice Hotel with a view

Rooms and en suite were very small- compact but had everything. The hotel is situated above the beaches but the hotel does have a lift. The views were second to none especially from the roof terrace, pool and dining room

Great view. Friendly, helpful staff.

Good place to stay. Fantastic views. Close enough to train station so it is a good place to go to the Cinque Terre and Portofino. Breakfast was good and the dinner we had was very good.

Very beautiful location

This was a lovely hotel sitting up on the hill overlooking the bay. The elevator down to the town level was great. The rooftop bar and restaurant had great panoramic view over the town and the Mediterranean. The hotel is older (just celebrating its 50th anniversary) so the rooms are a bit smaller. But they are well appointed and very comfortable. Very nice hotel although the rates were a bit high.

The GREATEST view from anywhere, beautiful

This is a fantastic and beautiful hotel up on the hill. The views are incredible. Nice rooms and very accommodating service. There is a direct elevator with takes your from the lobby area all the way down to the village level, which is one of a kind.

Beautiful views

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property with our 11 month old daughter. Our first room was perhaps th smallest I have ever stayed in, but the staff were very accommodating and moved us to a somewhat larger room when one became available. The views are unbeatable. The pool was lovely and a nice alternative to the beach which was crowded. Definitely recommend the hotel.

Tiny room & shower cabin. Outstanding restaurant!

A fine hotel, up on a hill overseeing the old town, harbour and bay. Breathtaking view from restaurant. The restaurant was absolutely astonishing. Top class maitre d' and serving staff. The best octopussy rolls, lambracks and tuna steak we have had. And we have had a few... Elegant interior and touch to details! Worth visitibg just for the restaurant. The room was tiny and we got the feeling we were given a \"left over\" room, as we used Welcome Rewards for the booking. Otherwise very satisfactory one night stay. Top staff througout.

Fun for the family!

This hotel is a physical marvel! Perched on top of a 10 story rock right in the middle of Sestri Levante is this 7 story hotel with a sky-pool and picture windows that seem like blown up aerial photos - you literally cannot believe your eyes! The rooms are tiny, but thhe staff is gracious and the pool and food are amazing! The hotel public spaces are large to make up for the room size and the pool could not be better laid out with three sections for babies, toddlers and adults. Sestri Levante is kid friendly with nice shopping, excellent dining and a laid-back beach town vibe. But for the room size and decor, this is 5 star fun!

Vis a Vis Sestri Levante

Fabulous Hotel, very original entrance. Great position, 3/4 minutes walk to shops and two beaches. Lovely swimming pool with absolutely fantastic panoramic views of Sestri Levante. Hotel reception staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful. They gave us good advice on visiting the Cinque Terre even getting us timetables for trains and boats that we needed.
Room was very comfortable with a lovely big balcony with great views.
Only one minor criticism; At the breakfast buffet you had to pay extra if you wanted a cooked breakfast. I just think that if you are staying in a hotel of this calibre at this price then a cooked breakfast should just be included.
Our overall experience was excellent and I would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting that area.

Sestri Levante - what a place !

The Hotel Vis a Vis is ideally situated on a high rock above Sestri Levante. It overlooks the old town and the two beaches, plus the harbour / marina. The old town was busy with activity and had nice shops, good restaurants and cafes. It was very compact and easy to find ones way around.

The railway station was within an easy walk from the hotel and we used it to visit the Cinque Terre - the little fishing villages along the coast. Rail travel was reasonable and provided a good service.

To the west of Sestri Levante on the headland is the famous and fashionable Portofino. Around the headland in a tiny cove is San Fruttuoso Abbey. We relaxed in one of the bars perched high above the little beach and enjoyed a cool beer. Getting here was easy - by boat from Sestri Levante. It cost 18 euros per person, and the round trip took round about 4 hrs, including a 45 min stay at the Abbey and 1 Hour at Portofino.

Santa Margherita Ligure is situated about 20 mins by train and was well worth a visit. Had a delightful seafood meal by the marina.

An ideal place for a one week stay and we enjoyed sitting in the bar on the top floor of the Hotel Viv a Vis having a drink and watching the sun go down over the Ligurian Sea.
