Fuji Onsenji Yumedono was, unfortunately, the biggest disappointment of our trip. The rooms, despite being described as high-category and spacious, felt very ordinary and lacked any sense of uniqueness. There is absolutely no view — the property is located directly at the intersection of two busy roads, and you can hear constant traffic.

Yes, there is a private onsen in the room, but sitting in it while listening to cars passing by and looking at a traffic light feels more like being in a bathtub on the street rather than a tranquil hot-spring experience.

The staff are polite, but it is extremely difficult to get anything beyond the basic minimum. Breakfast is strictly at 8:00 or 8:30, dinner must be booked in advance and is very expensive (though, to be fair, it is an interesting experience and the service in the restaurant is excellent). Outside of dinner, however, there is no room service at all — you can’t even get a piece of bread or anything small if you need it.

For the price they charge, this hotel is simply not worth it. There are many other options in the area that offer far better views, atmosphere, comfort and hospitality. Sadly, this stay felt like a complete letdown, especially considering the cost.

We had a very nice time on our stay at this small quiet hotel. We had the Shikibu room and appreciated the spaciousness. It had an outdoor garden view as well as a separate private small outdoor onsen. The onsen looks tiny on first impression but it was nice and we enjoyed the outside seating area too. The beds were comfortable and the linens were nice, and definitely get the breakfast. Amazing breakfast! The staff were friendly and very helpful with transportation back to the train station.
Some of the bathroom features were a little bit worn, but everything else was great.

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights so we could get away from the \"City\" and enjoy this area and wow, this property did not disappoint. We stayed in the Presidential suite Sakura and it was incredible. Everything was so clean and well taken care of.

The breakfast was high quality and very tasty. We also signed up for the dinner and it was an experience (highly recommended on both!)

We also loved the private onsen... espeicially when it started snowing one evening we were there... it was incredible

Expensive but worth the price if you want a unique experience. You walk into the property and the staff takes your bags for you and guides you to your room. The staff are very friendly and incredibly helpful here. The room is large and comfortable with a private outdoor onsen that'll melt your problems away. The outside of your room has a little garden that has a cherry blossoms and its beautiful. As well as a koi pond but not directly connected with your room. The breakfast that was served was immaculate and delicious. If it didn't break the bank, I'd stay again.

A quiet hotel with only 13 rooms. Room is big and very comfortable, with outdoor onsen. Location is approximately 20 mins walk to Lake Kawaguchiko and train/bus station. The hotel provides pick-up from the station upon check-in and sends you to the station when check-out. Ample parking lot if you are renting a car. Lawson next to hotel and bus stops are nearby. Very friendly staff. They even have a Starbucks coffee machine in their lounge. I would definitely stay there again.

Very spacious room (regular room) with great features like sights into the private garden, additional seating and luggage area, large bathroom and our favorite part, the private onsen. The onsen was a very nice stone material great for two and a perfect temperature of 42/107 degrees. Great bathroom and large t.v. Very close to views of Fuji, walk to the lake annd a few grocery stores. Also a great ramen truck across the street. Amazing to see that the suits are not much more expensive $200-300 USD more. Only con was the king bed was not very comfortable. It had two doubles put together with two toppers which made it awkward and pushed you either very close to your partner or very far. Overall would stay again.

The property is in such an excellent condition. Conveniently located as well, as it is a short walk to Lawson, and also to Lake Kawaguchiko. There are some restaurants around and within walking distance too. Each room comes with it's own onsen, and so convenient. The only downside is the lack of view from the rooms. But the service is impeccable.

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I've stayed at. The design and functionality was unwatched. We had a personal onsen that was better than pictured and the closet and entryway provided lots of storage to keep our suitcases out of sight. I cannot reccomend this place enough. The traditional Japanese breakfast was incredible and beautifully presented. Place is within walking distance of many restaurants and Lake Kawaguchi. If you stay, check out our favorite restaurant from our trip in Japan - Tanpopo!

It's was a treat to stay in a traditional Ryokan-difficult to tell if this is really traditional or not. The onsen was nice, the futon beds were small and uncomfortable, the food looked spectacular but was pretty disappointing, very expensive dinner especially as there are so many nice places for a lot less near by. Breakfast was includde and again looked great but wasn't for us, so we cancelled 2 out of 3 days. Ideally located to explore the area with great views of Fuji about a 2 min walk away

We arrived from the train station, greeted by staff. Traditional Onsen so slippers, at the door. We checked in later in the day, luggage in room. We had a suite with private hot tub. All amenities were provided. Robes, slippers, traditional Japanese clothes. We assume it was to wear to their tradition Japanese dinner but we didn’t go. Japanese beds were very comfortable, air conditioning, tv, air purifiers, Bluetooth speakers etc. lots of modern gadgets with lots of traditional feel. Beautifully appointed rooms in immaculate condition. Can’t say if the waters healed all my aches but it was very relaxing. Japanese breakfast was served in spectacular style. Again very Japanese. Lots of little odd but beautiful looking dishes so we just tried everything. Was an experience not to be missed. So happy we stayed there and pampered ourselves.

I paid the unreasonable price mainly for the included Japanese dinner. It turns out that you only get that dinner if you book 3 days out. I had booked 2 days out. So, when checking in I asked if there was a way I can be discounted for now having to stay in a $800 room with no fancy dinner for something that wasn’t mentioned anywhere in their expedia listing. The answer was a resounding no because it’s now too late and there are no refunds. Dinning aside, for the money, you can do better.

Its one of the best onsen i have ever stayed in Japan. They will fetch you from the bus terminal to the onsen. You just let them knew in advance that you need transport pick-up. This is very helpful if you are going there for the first time. Service staff are very friendly. As the onsen is a premium onsen with only 9 rooms so you hardly see anyone else there since most are in their rooms. Each room are big and comes with personal onsen bath which is very good. They will escort you to a personal room every morning and evening for breakfast and dinner. Quality of the kiseki meals are great. There will be one specific staff who will be serving you throughout your meals. Seriously making me feel like a queen and the cost which is higher pays off. My recommendation is that you should at least stay here for a night to experience a presidential treatment n the room is beautiful with perfect scenery. I have stayed in other onsens but this one is so far my benchmark for a good onsen. Location is also good ... walk out and you can see mount fuji behund you. Big and clear. About 10 mins walk to the lake where you can take a cruise round the lake. Even when the costs us high ..i will still go back to this onsen when i visit mount FUJI next time.

We had a good time in this Onsen. People in here are kind and professional. They make us feel comfortable. Everything here is super clean and beautiful. There are enough amenities and towels. We tried nice Yukawa which is Japanese transitional clothes. The food was also amazing too! I think this is one of the best place you can enjoy Japanese private Onsen near Mount Fuji. I highly recommend here!

Considering the tariff for this Ryokan - Hotel ( over a $AUD1000 per night ) you would have expected a better location and for our room to have a view of say Mt Fuji, which it did not.
The food is very traditionally Japanese and extremely expensive. We paid $AUD430 for two of us for dinner. It is prepared by a Japanese Master Chef, therefore the reason for the high cost, we guess. The food would not suit a conservative Australian pallet.
The furnishing in the units is typically suited for traditional Japanese style with low to floor furniture.
As an example, the futon beds are definitely not suited for older people with medical problems such as arthritis as you could not get on and off the bed.
The showering area is something else to awed about...….not good.
We were asked to pay 250 Yen for a bottle of water when you would have expected a gratuity for the tariff involved
We only stayed 1 out of the 3 days we had booked at this property.
They did not refund or credit the 2 days cancelled as is to be expected
Television broadcast is only available in Japanese.
We were very disappointed BUT others may find this property delightful.

The Kaiseki dinner, which was a 9-course meal, was excellent and very decadent. Highly recommended. You can’t see lake or Mt.Fuji from the hotel but it’s just a short walk away. The service could be a bit better given the price range, but overall we had a wonderful stay.

Such a LOVELY Ryokan experience. My second in Japan, and a lovely one. Especially loved how approachable staff were. Friendly and courteous throughout. Only judged the quality of the food served at breakfast, but this was truly amazing, and better than many high quality restaurants I have experienced in Japan. Private onsen is definitely a highlight of the stay. The hotel works with a very good massage company, so don't hesitate to ask and book. high quality, reasonable prices (cash only!)

Fuji Onsenji Yumedono is definitely a pearl among all hotels we stayed before. The staff of this hotel is very friendly, nice and kind. The hotel is clean and comfort. More than these, Fuji Onsenji Yumedono is an exhibition of Japanese culture and tradition. You must try its full dinner! The Fuji Onsenji Yumedono accommodation is expensive, but every penne you spent may bring you the fun, joy and better understanding of Japan! Absolutely recommended to all who wish to visit Japan in the near future.

Very relaxing resort with extremely caring staff. Although we only stayed for one night, the staff took such great care of us we felt at home by the time we left. Upon arrival, the driver who picked us up from the Kawaguchiko bus station provided us with a map with clearly labeled convenience stores, restaurants, etc. and told us how long it would take to walk to each of the locations. The hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the Tenjō-Yama Park Mt. Kachi Kachi Ropeway and you get some great views along the way. It was a great experience having a private onsen right outside your room too. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Terrible service!

Presidential suite accommodation
Construction of hotel across the street blocking Mt. Fuji view.
We indicated Prior to Check In that transport needed to train/bus station 9:20am departure. Told by front desk no shuttle available, already reserved by other guests.
Terrible customer service!

Flawless ryokan experience

Fuji Onsenji Yumedono was everything that we hoped for and more. The room was spectacular and the onsen a very welcome sight after a day of exploring the local area. The staff were very attentive & helpful.

Amazing authentic old world Japanese experience

Excellent Rooms and Onsen experience

The place was truly amazing and well equipped with the necessary amenities to make sure guests are comfortable. The friendly staff made sure we received a warm welcome with local snacks and a cup of hot green tea in the cold weather.
We were also extremely lucky to have encountered snow during the night and were able to dip into our room's private onsen while pretty snowflakes floated down.
It was unfortunate we only had a night to stay and had to check out early in the morning, thus skipping the breakfast we were supposed to have. It would have been exceptional if they prepared the breakfast in bento boxes for us to take-away, although that's just my suggestion.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we enjoyed it thoroughly. We definitely look forward to staying here when we visit Mount Fuji again.

Very Nice and Comfy

Authentic Japanese-style Hotel. Hotel has less than10 rooms and all room has a private onsen. Everything in the room is perfect. Hotel staffs were very nice and friendly. Breakfast was served in the room and it is so delicious.The price is high comparing with other hotels in the same area. But it is worth for money.

Amazing experience!

Thank you to Fuji Onsenji Yumedono for the most wonderful stay! All aspects of this accommodation are impeccable.

My husband & I stayed in the Executive Suite, which was beautifully decorated, with traditional tatami mats and bedding. The highlight was definitely our own private outdoor onsen. Onsens definitely have healing and restorative properties and we soaked in ours multiple times per day - the contrast between the hot spring water and the chilly outdoor air was magical.

Our room rate included both breakfast and dinner. We were so surprised by the abundance, quality and variety of the foods we were given. Dinner was a multi-course affair including delicacies such as blowfish and abalone. Breakfast was nourishing and filling. Both meals were consistently delicious.

Finally, the thing that makes this accommodation truly special is the exceptional level of service. Every single member of staff, but especially the wonderful waitresses, were friendly, kind, professional, and respectful. I have never been bowed at so much in my life! Japanese hospitality in general is fabulous but Onsenji Yumedono really went above and beyond.

Thank you once again for an amazing stay. We will be back!

Best hotel in Lake Kawaguchiko

The stay in Fuji Onsenji Yumedono was a very memorable one - the tranquility and sanctuary of the establishment as well as the modern inflection of the kaiseki - a perfect harmony of finest ingridents and flavors as well as aromas to delight the most delicate palate and sensory experience whilst feasting the creation by Master Chef Fuzimori. The vibrant contemporary kaiseki speaks for itself. Love the beef as well as the seafood slow-cooked with bamboo shoot. At times, it all feels overly cerebral and yet a sensual satisfaction of the rarified cuisine.

Though the room rate is a bit high, we really enjoyed it. It's worth. We had half board and private onsen (hot spring) inside our room. The food was really good. The room is big and the environment is quiet. The staffs are nice and polite. It is a five stars hotel!

Unforgettable experience and a must visit!

What an experience, unforgettable! Extremely friendly and good service, has a welcoming drink and sweets, food was exquisite, location was very near a bus stop (1 min walk) so it was easy to get around. Convenience store and restaurants are nearby. The private onsen was amazing! Everything was kept very clean and tidy.
