Traditional Japanese style hotel in a great location on the lakeside. Room (after we changed) was spacious but very outdated in terms of technology. No USB sockets, very old TVs (not that we used them). We would have been fine with all of this, but the service and attitude of the staff (mainly the men) at the front desk was disrespectful. In general, we felt uncomfortable that for every request for a service like the onsen or massage we were required to pay in advance as if we were a pair of thieves.

I booked two twin rooms. One room was lovely with a beautiful view over the lake. The other room was like being in a closet! It had one tiny window and was old and tired and was situated at the back of the hotel. I complained but was told the hotel was fully booked. Although when I offered to pay more suddenly a room became available! Disappointing!

We stayed in the Annex two buildings down, not in the hotel. We had a group of 4 so wanted a larger space for everyone. There were two beds and two futons, plus a couch. Both the beds and futons were extremely hard and none of slept at all. We were also woken up at 8am by construction on the building which we were not notified in advance of. We had a kaiseki dinner at the hotel the first night which was just ok. The staff did not explain anything about what we were eating and seemed uncomfortable talking with foreigners. We ate a lot of what we didnt know what we were eating and it seemed to be more about varying textures than taste. We did not get the breakfast or use the onsens. We did get a massage that spa which was very nice however with the hard beds, I feel like it was cancelled out. There is no view of fuji but can see the lake from the private entrance. It was fully stocked with housewares, two bathrooms, one shower and an overly large cedar bathtub that we did not use.

This place needs an update and renovation — especially considering their very high price level. Carpets in public areas are stained and smelly. The rooms are not aesthetically appealing at all — very different from the aesthetics one is accustomed to from Japan. Almost all of the lights in our room gave off a cold light and two were neon lights. Ruined the mood and Ryokan vibe.

Breakfast and dinner were highlights.

Overall, it feels like a ripoff. No free water or coffee (you had to pay for the coffee machine in the lobby). We had to cancel our third night and informed them two weeks prior of that but received no refund whatsoever. We even had to pay for the full dinner and breakfast for 4 people that were included in the third night. We asked more than once if we could at least get a discount on some of their other services but were denied (not even a free coffee).

The whole ryokan experience was great with only 2 things that needs to be improved. First being the in-room dinner service: the staff didn't mention that meal was being served as courses and we thought the initial portion served was the entire thing. The rice was missing so I had to check with the reception on this. It was confusing on both ends as receptionist mentioned that the staff would have informed us that dinner is served 3 courses but we were not aware.

Food was great and delicious but do not expect to take your own sweet time to eat. Staff will clear it within 1 hour even if you have not finished eating.

Second thing was that the bidet was not working! Receptionist was informed twice and they said they will check it out but nothing was fixed.. was honestly really disappointed in this.

The payable private onsen wasn't anything spectacular, not worth the JPY 3,300 IMHO.

Enjoyed our one night stay at this Ryokan style hotel at Kawaguchiko. Staff was really helpful and very nice. The ambiance was peaceful and had the traditional Japanese aesthetic. Also got to use the on premise public onsen by myself! And our room had direct view of Mt Fuji which was awesome since we were lucky to get clear days.

Wonderful stay and a unique experience. Dinner in room and breakfast in banquet hall.
Traditional sleeping on tatami was surprisingly comfortable. Many staff are bilingual which made communication easy. And the hotel itself was in a quiet location overlooking the lake even though there were many tourists in the area. And a big thanks to our Nakai, Lisa who was a wonderful hostess

What an amazing traditional experience! The staff were all so kind and the presentation of the dinner/breakfast was so beautiful. Authentic food and we got to try lots of new things for the first time.
Lake views were stunning and a view of Mt Fuji is available on the 7th floor if you’re lucky with the weather!

I had a positive stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, even before the official check-in time, they kindly offered to store my luggage so I could begin sightseeing right away. They also provided a complimentary shuttle to the bus terminal, which was very convenient. It is an easy walk downhill from the bus station to the hotel, but carrying luggage back uphill can be a challenge—so the shuttle was much appreciated.

The room itself was clean, quiet, and comfortable, with excellent shower water pressure.

The spa facilities are a highlight, though each has its own character. The 6th-floor spa offers a beautiful view of the lake. It features a small outdoor warm bath (suitable for two) and a large indoor warm bath, but no sauna, steam bath, or cold plunge. The basement spa, on the other hand, is more extensive, with a large outdoor bath overlooking a stone waterfall, a spacious indoor warm bath, a cold plunge bath, and a sauna. The sauna was not operating during my early-morning visit at 6 a.m., though to be fair, this may have been due to the early hour.

The traditional Japanese breakfast was excellent, and the dining room provided a gorgeous view of the lake and surrounding mountains, making for a memorable start to the day.

Overall, this property offers great service, very good value, and an excellent location. I would gladly recommend it to other travelers.

Not sure why this is a 3 star hotel. I had a 5 star experience with the customer service staff. I booked a standard room and wanted to upgrade. The room I got(although last minute) had a really nice view to the lake. The place is really well maintained and the food was good. I will definitely come back.

Nice quiet town. Lakeside was nice, dinning was good but many restaurants are only open for 3 hours over lunch. Great place to stay if you want to hike Fuji, close to Kawaguchiko station made it easy to get around. Staff were friendly, no language barriers. Enjoyed our stay, very authentic room (western style Japanese)

Very nice Japanese traditional style hotel. The location is great, close to the sight-seeing bus line and to the cable car lift. The bath is great, with good views on the 7th floor. it is a pity the room we had doesn't have a view though. The staff are nice, very polite. They also provide car service to and from the Fujikawaguchiko Station, which is nice!

The whole vibe was great, including provided kimonos, private dinner rooms, communal breakfast, multiple onsens, gorgeous garden. Meals were wonderfully traditional.Very laid back atmosphere but very professional and conscientious service. The front desk was very helpful.

Fantastic experience for 1 night. Enjoyed the Japanese style room with outdoor bath and view of the lake. We opted for the included dinner which they serve in your room and it has many courses, so we were extremely full. Breakfast was served in the dining room which was also abundant. Great stay and well worth the price. We found this hotel convenient with a 10min walk to Kowaguchiko station with a slight hill and 5min walk to the base of the ropeway.

The Kaiseki meal and Japanese breakfast were flawless in delivery and taste. Room was good, but felt a little worn. Our room opened onto an outdoor area which was badly neglected in every way. It detracted from the overall experience, unfortunately. Also, the private Onsen was really in need of freshening up, not worth the extra cost. The wooden tub was suffering from advanced mould growth. Good location and helpful staff.

Front desk staff speak good English. Room is clean and comfy. Most of us stayed at the basic standard Japanese style room and the huge Mt. Fuji is right behind the window. Huge carpark right across the street.

I particularly want to give compliments to a front desk lady named 花梨（a taiwanese pretty lady). I lost my key for my luggage case. 花梨 proactively approached more than one local key man to help me opened the luggage case, which finally saved it from being forced opened and damaged.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were all helpful and kind. The food was delicious (be prepared for A LOT of food at breakfast and dinner) and we loved our in-room onsen . The hotel is showing its age with some visible wear and tear but it didn’t detract from the enjoyment of our stay. The location can’t be beat. I would definitely recommend staying here. A absolutely beautiful ryokan room. Couldn’t recommend this hotel enough. The onsen over looking lake kawaguchi was just beautiful even if the weather was rainy! The onsen made it more spectacular.
Good amenities and staff very helpful!
I would have like to have breakfast on the room rather than in dining hall. As I don’t like the food traditional Japanese breakfast.
A Lawson next door was handy.

Honestly, I’ve stayed at a lot of 4 star hotels and I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Kasuiei Ohya!
Then setting is beautiful, the room was immaculate, the staff was sincere, helpful and accommodating.
They even went out of their way to assist in filling out our luggage transfer paperwork so it arrived at our next destination easily.
Pro-tip: most staff members speak enough English for basic discussions.
I would love to come back in summer to take in the natural environment!

Amazing! I was fortunate enough to stay one night here and I wish I could have stayed more! The staff is so nice and courteous, the room was a dream, definitely a highlight of my trip to Japan! I booked for half boarding and the food was traditional Japanese style meals that were good and awesome to experience. The room had a lake view that was calming and the hot baths were soothing. I also was fortunate enough to book a massage at the spa downstairs and it was the perfect cherry on top! Thank you Kasuitei Ohya for the amazing hospitality and experience! Hope to have the chance to be back again someday!

Good location but hotel is old and has a weird smell. Daily onsen tax due at checkout. Shower had mildewy smell and visible mold on tile. Turned me off to even try the hotel onsen because I was afraid it was too dirty.

Very traditional breakfast and nice experience every morning. It will definitely have you try new foods. Shuttle was helpful to the station.
