Most beautiful view for an onsen that we’ve been to in Japan so far. The free town shuttles are to and from the bus / train station + 2 other downtown locations are frequent and convenient. The hotel amenities are great with so many options, a Family Mart and bakery on the premises

Very big hotel. Not an easy walk into the city. So you have to plan meals unless you’re happy to dine in the hotel restaurants.
But lovely staff and nice rooms. We didn’t pay for a view of the sea and volcano. But still nice city view as you’re high on a hill. Would recommend for the price.

Incredible hotel, for what was presumably an excellent deal. Note of clarification, the room was labelled as "NO VIEW", but we were still placed on the tenth floor and got a lovely view of the rear side of the hotel, with scenic greenery, and a nice contrast of classic and modern Kagoshima. Overall great experience; staff was lovely, plenty of facilities at and near the hotel, and some of them came at quite reasonable prices for more budget-minded people like myself.

Would recommend a car as it is quite difficult to walk to and from the hotel to the city or anything central. There is a good bus that runs to popular locations, right near the reception, but it doesn't run very late and has a specific route.

Really big hotel very popular with Japanese people. The best thing is the view of Sakurajima. Really amazing. Onsen is very strict with tattoos also with foreigners. Breakfast was huge but a bit messy. Room was ok. Good for a 2 night stay.

So much morecthan I expected

I booked, looking for a place to staycafter getting off the ferryvfrom Okinawa. When I arrived I realized this wasnt just a place to sleep. It's the city's "grand hotel".
Set in gorgeous grounds, with more trails nearby in the mountain forest, it offers a large breakfast buffet and a huge onsen with indoor and outdoor pools - all of them with spectacular views over the city and volcano.

One of the best...

This was our first stop for a three week trip to Japan. Couldn't have chosen a better place to get acquainted and get past the jet lag. Excellent service, very comfortable rooms, beautiful views and wonderful onsen. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. The hotel has many restaurants. We ate at one. Overpriced and just all right. There are so many excellent places to eat in Kagoshima. The hotel is on a cliff above the city. Using the free shuttle service was easy and efficient, though you do spend a good deal of time traveling to and from the heart of the city if you do go in twice a day. But totally worth it. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Kagoshima.

Despite high hopes this hotel was perhaps the most disappointing of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Staff were incredibly unhelpful, we were told that we could not eat in the hotel as they’d fully booked every restaurant for functions, we then wanted to go for a drink one evening and was told the bars were shut that day for no reason given, you also had to queue for about 20 minutes to get breakfast which, whilst there were many options, was poor quality.

The one positive was the onsen being pleasant with a lovely view of the volcano. However, that does not make up for the poor hotel standard.

Avoid staying here.

Beautiful Views, Solid Hotel Stay

Great hotel that’s very well known for the onsen and views of Sakurajima (what more can you ask for!). It will be hard to find a hotel location with a better view!

The room was nice for the most part. Bathroom was a bit dated and unfortunately had an old tank water smell that some of the hotels in Japan have.

Restaurants in the hotel are great although a bit on the pricier side. We ended up getting a gorgeous view of the garden for our dinner there.

Family Mart on the 1st floor makes this hotel a catch all for convenience.

It’s a very grand hotel with amazing view of the Sakuajima. Loved the onsen! Great services and a good variety and quality of breakfast. The only thing that bothered me was the thin walls of the room it can get a bit noisy at night, but everything else was good enough to make up for the only problem. The hotel also has nice souvenir shops.

Hotel is located on top of a hill, with views of Sakurajima.

Hotel provides half hourly complimentary bus shuttle to Tenmonkan and train station. Journey can take 15-30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Indoor onsen has hot and cold water pools and outdoor onsen has a lovely view of Sakurajima. This was the reason I chose to stay at Shiroyama. Watched sunrise from outdoor onsen on one morning.

The hotel is regal; it is happily situated on top of a hill overlooking the bay and the majestic Sakurajima mountains. The furnishings are somewhat dated BUT the services were remarkably speedy and efficient. The human touch (staff members) in this hotel is no-doubt world-class!

You have pay to use the gym which was the first time we experienced and about $20 sgd.

It’s a distance to town so good to honeymooners who want to stay mainly in the room. It’s short hike down of about 15 mins or take the shuttle bus. If you want to be in the heart of town, stay elsewhere.

Property is on the older style and walls are thin. We could hear the next room.

What they lack they make it up by excellent service and hospitality. Property is huge and beautiful. You get to see great views of the Volcano. There’s a family mart downstairs.

The hotel also has its own regular shuttle buses to take guests back and forth to the station and main shopping area which are free of charge!

食事もよかったです。ただ、階下のレストランの値段が高かったです。桜島は私の部屋からはみえませんでしたが、外の噴水のところに出て、写真を撮ることができました。

I've never used the property amenities other than the bar, which has a great view of the volcano. I just sit in my room--get one with a volcano view--and watch the volcano. Beautiful hotel in a less discovered Japanese town. Sakurajima is amazing when it is erupting. The town itself is quieter with lovely weather. Take a cab for some local ramen. The room though is clean, comfortable, with great views. I love this hotel. A gem away from most of the tourists..

Arbitrarily changed the check in and check out time with no advance warning. Check in 5 PM, check out at 10 AM. Seriously I would not have booked my stay there had I been warned ahead of time. Room 880, carpet is DIRTY! Management should just go to look for it themselves. A disgrace!
The staff are nice and pleasant. My wife lost her room key and they managed to recover it for us!

We booked the hotel stay from Hotels.com. When we arrived we were shocked at the poor quality room given to us: no view (looking out onto air conditioning fans and hotel walls), not renovated like other newer refurbished rooms, bad smell of smoke. When we mentioned that this was unacceptable to the staff, they were quick to offer 3 other rooms, one at the same price and 2 others at slightly higher prices. All were renovated, spacious, clean with no smell, higher floor and spectacular view of the city, ocean, and volcano. We took the slightly higher priced one (which was well worth it).

Staffs at reception very professional and very welcoming. Normal double bed room and bathroom is quite small, so we prefer bathing in the public bath. Open air onsen is excellent (with a view of the mountain!!).

Good onsen and great view, but location is not convenient. Only 2 shuttle buses in an hour. Superior double rooms have old deco and are in need of renovation, while renovated rooms have no double beds, only twin beds.

The hotel is quite spacious compared to the downtown hotel. it has a spectacular view. Hotspring faciliity and spacious. the overall environment is nice. although its located at the moutain but they have got a family mart within the hotel.
The shuttle service is nice. But the bus stop is a bit hard to find as there is no sign there.

立地が最高でした。
高台から桜島を邪魔するものなく見れる立地で、露天風呂ロビーレストラン等様々なところから桜島を見ることができます。
僕は2泊素泊まりで利用したのですが、朝から22時まで30分おきにリムジンバスが天文館・鹿児島中央駅・ホテルを周回してるので出かけるのも帰るのもとても便利でした。
城山ホテルで造蒸しているクラフトビールもホテルのラストランから桜島を眺めながら贅沢に味わう事ができました。^ ^

お部屋、設備、サービスすべて最高でした！
部屋からもお風呂からも桜島が見えましたし、夜は夜景やお庭のイルミネーションが綺麗に見えました。
大浴場は広く、温泉の泉質も良くて肌がスベスベに。タオルを部屋から持っていかなくても良い点も◎。テレビで混雑状況を確認できる点もありがたいですね。
脱衣所も広くて、髪を乾かすスペースが一人づつ区切られてるのがとても良いと思いました。ドライヤーも良いものを設置してくださってて助かります。
館内はどこもかしこも清潔で素晴らしかったです。
さすが代々天皇陛下が宿泊されたホテルだと思いました。
朝食もめちゃくちゃ美味しかったです。
贅沢で素敵な時間を過ごさせていただきました。
シャトルバスが朝から夜遅い時間帯まで30分置きに出ているのもありがたい。
また鹿児島を訪れる際には利用させていただきます。
