Great location tram outside easy to get to most things can walk to most attractions in 30 minutes. Fantastic city really enjoyed it. Only issue with hotel is just one lift for all customers and staff so sometimes you have to wait awhile.

Really cramped, sorely needs under bed storage

Room is small as expected but not laid out well. No under bed storage is a serious deficiency so the only place to lay an open suitcase is in front of the door. Which means moving so I can jump over it to leave the room and moving it back when I want to get into the bathroom. Only a small bench is provided so there really isn't anywhere comfortable to sit, had to try to make do by propping pillows up on the bed. The TV is very awkwardly placed next to the head of the bed and it's bolted to the wall with no give so it's extremely difficult to access the HDMI port. Bathroom is the type with the raised slightly sloped floor so it was really a challenge to get in there with my suitcase there. Breakfast was good.

Other hotels use the limited space more smartly, this one doesn't seem well laid out. Location is super convenient near a tram store and in the shopping arcade area, yet quiet.

When we checked into the room we noticed that the washroom was not fully cleaned. There was hair stuck on the wall and the sofa had disgusting amount of stains on it. However the beds were somewhat comfortable and the location is central and convenient. It’s pretty much self serving (no staff was helping to check in or out) so the staff didn’t really interact with us.

The staff speaks good english. Very easy communication.

They provide bath salt at the lobby for a bathtub soak, which is very nice.

Parking is the only issue. They have a partnership with a carpark nearby. But there are 2 carpark with the same name- Maruya 1 and Maruya 2. Unfortunately, i parked at the wrong one, and couldn't get the discounted rate.

If driving, there are hotels with more convenient parking. But if travelling by train, this hotel is perfect.

It is a nice and quiet hotel.

However, the cleanliness, need to be improved.
On the arrival, the toilet and floor were not properly clean.
Also there was not enough toilet paper (of course it is ok that it wasn't new), however the two rolls were almost finishing... and during the next two days they didn't supply new toilet paper. (i used tissues that I had brought with me)... When I asked at the front desk, they seemed surprised... like if I were using it in an abnormal way or in excessive amount.

Brand new (refurbished?) hotel ideally located

Brand new or newly refurbished hotel very well located in Kagoshima. Overall great but having a single elevator for the whole building that is shared by customers and staff is simply not enough... And the aircon in our room was loud but it did not feel like it was blowing cool air. Other than that, it was a really great stay.

This hotel has great location in which Tenmonkan Tram station is nearby, Shopping street is right across. Lots of great boutique restaurants surrounding the hotel. It took me 23 min to walk from Kagoshima Chuo JR Station, while Taxi took 3min. If you have a group of 2-3 person & luggage, forget about Tram, Bus or walking, just go for taxi as it is cheaper. Breakfast is adequate with mixes of Japanese & western. Hotel of great value!

Rebranded hotel smack in the center of Tenmonkan

Rebranded hotel in the center if Tenmonkan (which is the shopping district for Kagoshima city). The hotel is close to the ferry terminal which goes to Yakushima.
Access is good but be prepared to move your luggage by hand. There is no car access in front of the hotel. In fact the front is a bit hard to find as it only occupies about 10 feet of the busy sidewalk. Rooms are business class and a bit dated. The rebranding is new but the furnishings are definitely not. Still, it's clean and reasonably comfortable for the price.

Great hotel in a central location

I stayed here with my family in the large room with a double and a bunk bed. There was plenty of space. It was warm and cozy and there was plenty of hot water. The location was excellent. Walking distance from everywhere or tram stops and airport bus just outside.

Very nice staff, comfy room. Location could not be better. I would prefer western breakfast instead of japanese and had some problems with wifi (not all the time), but there are plenty of places nearby to find breakfast. Free soft drinks after 15 very good!

I was a little skeptical about the hotel, just based on the price, but it was a great place with top notch staff that were very helpful. Booked a room with a big bed and a bunk bed for the kids. Slept two adults and two kids (5 and 9) very comfortably. Great location. Didn't try the breakfast. Hotel staff recommended a local restaurant for dinner and even called to make reservations. This place is awesome. I highly recommend it.

Great hotel, more valuable than the cost.

This hotel was great! I stayed here with my family and the location was very easy to find. The staff were so kind. Even though there could be language barrier, you can get what you want.
The room was clean with a good view. There are lots of restaurants and shops right next to the hotel. The hotel is exactly located in the centre of Kagoshima.
Just one thing, the lift is quite small.
I will definitely stay here again if I get a chance to visit Kagoshima again.

Convenient location in Tenmonkan

Convenient location in central Tenmonkan. Close to lots of shopping. From the shinkansen station, this hotel is about a 20-30 minute walk, but there are frequent connections by bus and street car. If you are staying in Kagoshima for a few days for sightseeing, then staying in Tenmonkan is highly recommended as there are tons of small shops at street level. The hotel is "business" class which means small rooms, but clean and efficient.

Beautiful hotel, The hotel staff were very professional, warm and caring. I am grateful for their hospitality. There is a free drink machine in the lobby. We got a free upgrade to a bigger room. The room size is big enough to accommodate 3 persons. The room has an air cleaner and the wondow can be opend to allow fresh air coming in. Ice-making machine and drink vending machine is just at the comunal area on some floors. Shopping areas and supermarkets, many dining-out spots and some sight-seeing points are just nearby. The stay in this Hotel is comfortable and an excellent experience in Kyushu and therefore its stay is highly recomended to others.

We stayed at this hotel only 1 night. It was nicer than I expected after looking at the online pictures. The room was basic but clean and without any smoke smell. The location is pretty convenient. We got to the hotel earlier than the 3 pm check in. The front desk staff let us sit at the lobby area & told us to help ourselves to hot drinks (coffee & a variety of teas). She then helped us locate some of the sites we wanted to visit. The only bad thing about this hotel is there is only one elevator. It took a while to get in & out of the property.

This is the best budget hotel we stayed in throughout our Japan trip. Special mentioned to the very friendly staff who helped us despite having a language barrier (In general, people in Kyushu are much nicer than in Honshu). The location is great, right outside is the tram that can take u to most places. Dont be shocked by the very small toilet, most hotels in japan are like that. The bed we got was king double when most other hotels provide a queen double. On top of the standard facilities, they provide washing machines. This was also the cheapest budget hotel we stayed in.

Highly recommend this place to anyone.

cheap budget hotel in old shopping district

One lift only, view of sakurajima, 20-25 min walk to kago-chou station which has new shopping centres, tram n bus stop to station infront, plenty restaurants, in old shopping district, walking distance to ferry, city covered in ash, great english speaking staff, room new and clean and comfy better than rooms in shinosaka chisun inn, free wifi in room, can hear noise from streets and hotel but did not affect sleep. Will stay here again for price.

I would have been disappointed if I hadn't paid so little for this room. I didn't mind that the room was tiny, but it smelled like smoke. Unfortunately, although I requested a nonsmoking room, they didn't have any left when I checked in. And they were not able to move me to one for my entire stay. It stunk.

this was the second time i had stayed here and i was just as pleased with it on this occasion. it is in a great friendly location well served with buses and trams so that you can get to anywhere in the area very easily. the rooms are very small but contain everything you need and those at the back that are sufficiently elevated have a view of the volcano. good reasonably priced brekky and very very helpful staff

Excellent price and huge room (we got a bunk bed/double/sofa bed room). Lady at the front desk was very friendly. Location is very centered, about the only bad thing I can say is there's no JR lines nearby, so if you're using the JR pass you're out of luck. Great view from the top floors.

Quiet Hostel near Airport

The hostel is quiet, clean, tidy and cosy. Location is near subway station and it is only one stop away from the airport. The subway links to most interesting sites and important amenities in Fukuoka. The staff is helpful and speaks English too. Will stay there again when re-visit Fukuoka in future.

Nice, clean business hotel with nice rooms. Had a single room of a decent size for a good price. At the end of the hall (at least in my floor) you can go out on a balcony and get a great view of Sakurajima. The staff was friendly and the location is very good. It's on the tram line from the Shinkansen station, and it's centrally placed close to Tenmonkandori. Will stay there again when I return

Yes the room was on the small side but that didn't bother us - this Hotel is probably what they call a "businessman's" hotel - very suitable for a night or two but it would be a little bit of a problem for longer stays. The hotel was very central and it was no problem to change rooms as we wanted a view of the Volcano from our room which was quite exciting as it put on a bit of a show for us while we were there.
The hotel is easy to find but do ask directions as you get off the train. If you have a problem with this, just stand in one spot looking intently at your map and some very helpful Japanese person will soon approach you! They are a very friendly and only too happy to assist.
The hotel was very clean as was our room and it had lots of the usual extras you expect in Japan - a fridge too for those meals on the run. Lots of shops nearby too for some "western" style though limited foods.
We paid a good price and got good value - that 5 ***** in our book!

Perfect place for short stay in Kagoshima

The hotel is brilliantly located between the train station and the port; great for an overnight stay to catch the ferry to Yakushima. While the rooms are quite small, the beds are comfortable and the room and bathrooms are very clean and new. The hotel has a coin laundery and serves a good Japanese breakfast. Staff have some English and are friendly and helpful. The location is also good for a stroll round the shopping arcades and nearby lively restaurants.

However, I had to lower the comfort rating because the room was too cool for our comfort. We tried to turn up the heat and discovered that it was controlled by management. We asked for them to turn it up, but it stayed very cool.
Otherwise we had a great time in Kagoshima.

Our cheap room had a great view over the city of Kagoshima (it's a high building) and have a great location. The room was clean and comfortable. There was wired internet on the room and wireless wifi in the lobby.

The staff was a little lacking in English but really helpful and friendly. Me and my girlfriend was about to book a hotel in a smaller village following our stay in Kagoshima. The staff at Chisun Inn Kagoshima helped us call the other hotel and make a reservation in Japanese.

Clean, convenient hotel in shopping district

The room was clean and probably updated in the last few years from the decor, and cleanliness is always the most important factor for me. Walls are thin, like most Japanese hotels, so be prepared for that and be respectful of that, too. Good location near shopping, tram, and bus stops and within a reasonable walk to the ferry terminal to view Mt. Sakurajima. Hotel staff were kind and stored my luggage for me before check-in and after check-out for a few hours. Like other posters mentioned, there is only one elevator that does run slowly, and the front lobby is located on the 2nd floor, not first, so be prepared to haul your luggage up a narrow winding staircase for check-in. Nice having Internet access in the room, but the ethernet cable is too short to be able to use the Internet anywhere but the direct desk top. Only one pillow was provided for a double bed. Overall, the room served its purpose and I would stay there again.

I stayed one night here for a conference and it suited me well. The room is a bit bigger than other rooms I've stayed in while in Japan. The whole city is at your fingertips, whether you'd like to walk to Tenmonkan or catch the tram to Chuo Station to catch the shinkansen.

The Chisun Hotel is a hotel block sitting above a row of shophouses facing the road. It is newly refurbished and the decor is modern and refreshing. But don't expect a phone in your room for room to room calls!

The Front Office Staff were all very helpful with their limited English speaking capabilities. Checking in is a bit of a hassle as you can't unload the luggage in the front of the hotel but about 200 ~ 300 m away at a side lane. Parking is about 300 m back to the hotel.

In summary, the hotel rates are not cheap but the rooms are newly done up and are comfortable, albeit a bit small but not as small as some other Japanese hotels.
