This is a beautiful hotel with beautiful rooms and an amazing staff. However, it sits on the main road into the historic area so it can be loud. This was increased due to the AC being turned off for winter and the heat being set a bit high which required us to lead the balcony door open. Also, the TV in the room next door sounded like it was in our room... not much sound proofing. Overall, the experience was wonderful and provide an excellent base to explore this wonderful micro-country.

Booked last minute checked in ok , noticed outside music ,thought nothing more , came back to sleep music still blasting out ten foot above our room , tried to sleep impossible, complained to night staff who moved us to quiet hotel front room. Noticed small notice in lobby about this annual event which we did not know about , this was completely avoidable and unacceptable the hotel should be ashamed.

The hotel was excellent although we had short visit due to business the surroundings were nice, the hotel clean and personal polite.
The only inconvenience is the lack of parking due to the location of the hotel right on the Main Street. They solved that my having one of their team promptly moving the car to garage. But it being like that one was limited to come and go with the car.

Amazing San Marino

Hotel was beautiful. It was clean and safe. Only two things I would note that was both minor was
1) The shower head had a lot of limescale in it, I had to break it up to get the shower to flow evenly
2) I felt that the gentleman that ran the restaurant was standoffish

The reception team and housekeeping team were extremely welcoming and engaging and San Marino is an absolute beautiful place. Favourite place on my trip of 7 countries

Not what its cracked up to be

It may not be the tourist season, but one expects that if a hotel is open, then it should offer full services... Aperitivo is an essential part of Italian hotel business, but the bar is poorly stocked and you need to go to reception to find someone to serve you a drink... room furnishings were very worn and tired... i'm not a fan of shower-over-bath, not really 4 star... the view is nice though.

Grand Hotel San Marino is just outside the main wall of the city what make is possible to be able to park but you are still a few steps from the main entrance. Beautiful view from the room and restaurant associated with the hotel is one of the best ones in town.

Overall an outdated and disappointing hotel. No kettle/coffee machines in the rooms. The staff were not helpful, I asked about parking before arriving and received no response. I tried to ordering room service but reception said it was not available because there were no reservations available at the restaurant which made no sense. For the price and location it’s not a terrible hotel. I would not stay here again.

Please note that this hotel is located at the top of the mountain past multiple staircases. If you have large suitcases like us, make sure you call the hotel because they have a free shuttle that can pick you up from the bus stop in San Marino,

Old hotel with great location and very clean and spacious rooms, although the furniture is a little bit old. The service was great, with the only exception of a very rude young guy with dark hair who checked us in on the first day (not the young man wearing glasses, who is very kind and polite).

This property is in an absolutely amazing location in San Marino. We loved everything about our stay with the exception that our room which was to be available at the check-in time of 2:00 pm was not available until 3:30. The hotel staff gave us complimentary wine and chips while we waited and extended our check out time by an hour (which was great!), but that we had limited time on our schedule in San Marino we were disappointed not to be able to check in on time. That said, don’t let our experience discourage you as this is an amazing property!

The dinner restaurant on premises was economically priced for the area and our meal was excellent. The breakfast buffet was expansive. We enjoyed our balcony. Street parking was easy in front of the hotel in November and validated by the hotel for 4 Euros. The many electrical switches and panels were very confusing and yet there weren't enough electrical outlets to easily charge two iPhones.

In general, I liked the hotel. There is nothing really bad to say about it. The hotel is located in the heart of San Marino. There are a few nice restaurants right next to the hotel. My check-in was quick and easy. The front desk staff was nice. The room I got was big enough. Its design was basic and simple, but I felt good staying there. Unfortunately, there was a building right across my window, so my room never had a good amount of daylight. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom definitely was updated but designed very simple. I liked having a bathtub there. The bathroom amenities were of a good quality. Hotel’s Wi-Fi was working not very fast. The money I payed per night I find a little bit overpriced. For a pretty basic hotel in Europe similar to this the price should be a little less. Anyway, I 100% recommend this hotel for a stay in San Marino.

Staff were so friendly. Breakfast was good, and they were very accommodating to my gluten free needs. Location is perfect, right at the top of San Marino and a short walking distance to restaurants etc. Unfortunately there was a concert going on behind the hotel so it was very loud until late at night, but apart from that everything was fine. Small but clean room.

This hotel is ritzy and high-end despite the affordable cost for the room.

The reception desk is warm and welcoming. I didn’t feel particularly comfortable having to leave our passports with the front desk during our stay but it’s hotel policy so I didn’t have much of a choice.

The location of the hotel is excellent! Down the road are the main stores and another 3 minute-walk further along is the main plaza you see in the postcards. Or, if you want to walk up to the castle towers that road is directly behind the hotel which is convenient.

I would highly recommend this hotel. It’s romantic and fancy and very clean.

Fantastic service from point of arrival to departure in all aspects, special compliments to Steffano. Location is also great as base to explore the historic city without having to climb all the way up! Balcony view of sunset to die for. There is no power points by the bedside so do request an extension from the front desk/housekeeping if needed, they were very helpful and provided very quickly.

For the price one pays, I'd say the rooms are not quite there yet...the facilities are old, the spa people are never there, don't answer phones or return emails...but the front desk staff were very nice and the breakfast was good. We came by car and used the parking garage for an extra €16. It's a very classic old style hotel offering beautiful views and high-end things for sale such as men's ties and a spa. The rooms themselves are quite small and simple, with a somewhat outdated bathroom. However, the amenities provided (lotion, soaps, shampoo) are of nice quality.

The hotel was in a good location. At check in we were asked if we would like to upgrade our room for an extra 20 euro each as our rooms overlooked a back wall. We agreed and was given a front rooms with a view and a balcony with connecting door. But our sleep was interrupted when guests in the rooms above began a disagreement which lasted into the early hours. It wasn't what we had expected in such a property. We mentioned this to the manager who made apologies and satisfactorily resolved the situation. Despite this mishap we would again stay here is we were in the area.

Grand Hotel San Marino a Must Stay

This hotel was excellent. The desk staff did a fantastic job. Katerina was very helpful. We got in late and it was rainy and foggy. She helped us get settled, get the car parked and provided directions to several places we wanted to visit. The breakfast was super with a wide selection and the wait staff were very professional. Will stay there again if we get the opportunity!

Rented a meeting room that was HOT and staff did not once check to see if everything was OK. When I complained about the heat they stated that I should have asked to have the AC turned on?

Nice hotel, but very hard bed

The hotel has a nice lobby and helpful check in staff who speak Italian and English. The location is great for setting out on foot and this is definitely a pedestrian town. Only down side to the hotel was the bed - hard as a brick. We encountered that at a couple other places in Italy, but this bed was hard enough to keep my husband and I tossing and turning all night. Aside from the hard bed, everything was very good. The restaurant was very overly priced, even for a tourist town. Leave the hotel for dining.

Never book a standard room!

We were totally shocked to check into a standard room which was small, old, badly furnished and looking into a blank rock retaining wall 5 feet away.

We immediately asked to change but only if we paid up. So for 25euros more, we got a balcony room that was 100% better. It had a small balcony, nice furnishings, updated bathroom and good lighting.

Always book the room with balcony or stay elsewhere!
