Cheap and basic hotel. Parking right outside and in a very convenient location. Virtually in the centre of Chinon.
If you are looking for quality it's not for you, but if you want a quick and convenient stop of over its great.

This property is in a great location and the parking was very easy. The front staff also accommodated an after midnight arrival. You just have to make sure you let them know in advance, otherwise you will be stuck outside.

Other than that, the hotel had quite a few issues. First of all, it was so loud every time we got up to walk around in our room that it sounded like elephants walking around. We could even hear other people moving around and talking in their rooms. The bathroom wasn’t very clean. The toilet needed scrubbing and the shower had hair in it. By far the most frustrating part of our stay was the fire alarm that went off not once but twice during our stay…. We even had to evacuate the room at 2am for a false alarm. I would not recommend staying here.

Very poor kept. It could be a jewel but it is not. We just didn’t have a choice but if we did we would have gone somewhere else. The only positive thing was the young lady in reception who went out of her way to help us.

The hotel has an elegant exterior and the rooms boast high ceilings. The parking is free and the situation is lovely as it overlooks the river and a lovely park.

The rooms were decorated a la 50’s - dated, dingy.

Steep steps to negotiate for my blind dog.

Be aware, when it says checkin is at 3, the front door is locked until then. I had a reasonably spacious room looking out onto the square in front. Apart from a hanging rack the only drawer and shelf were taken up with spare bedding so nowhere to put clothes out of the suitcase. I glanced into a couple of other rooms and it may just have been a problem with my room.
Good breakfast available in the courtyard which was secluded and quiet.
Easy walk to the centre of town and lots of available cafes/restaurants close at hand.

Wow! We were so pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Although we booked a standard room we were upgraded to the most amazing suite! It was modern and huge…gigantic Android TV and a supersized shower. None of the photos shown on Expedia show a room like this one. The lady who checked us in and out was very gracious and kind. Location is amazing to walk to restaurants and sights. We arrived on a Wednesday night by chance and we’re lucky that the weekly market was the following day and it was just a few steps from the hotel. Our room was in a courtyard location and was very quiet. Usually we find disappointments in many of our hotel bookings, but this hotel exceeded our expectations and we will return! Can’t recommend highly enough.

Fabulous Service & Stay

We stayed here for one night on our return journey from Portugal to the UK. In these strange Covid times, we were the only guests in a 75 room hotel, but the service was fantastic. With the restaurants closed, our host provided us with a lovely tray of food and a lovely local wine (extra charge) which we loved. We were tired on arrival from our journey and it was lovely to have a meal prepared for us.
The hotel room was large, warm and comfortable and our two dogs were also welcome to stay which was why we chose this property. Highly recommended.

For those familiar with a US Motel 6 or Super 8, this was a large step down. The room was a motel room (exterior door. The window was frosted so it was like a cave. Had it not been frosted the view would have been of the detached breakfast area. We left after one night. I paid for two nights but it was so bad we couldn’t stay

Dated property, old but in fairly good shape through maintenance. Room was quite small, virtually no storage or ability to spread out. One chair, but got another. Small desk. Bathroom sink needs a new, higher, faucet that also extends past the stopper lever and you can get your hands under to wash. Nice breakfast spread for 12 e per person. Owner/staff very helpful, with some English.

The hotel was located very close to train station and right in the middle of the city, Chinon. The staff very friendly and the rooms were very clean. I wish it had elevators, otherwise it was an excellent choice. It provided breakfast at 11 Euro per person but it was well worth it.

This hotel is conveniently located with free parking on the square. Staff was friendly and one spoke English which was a welcome bonus for us. The room was nice and the bathroom was recently updated. Cute courtyard and delicious continental breakfast. I would definitely recommend this place.

Traditional hotel in the Loire

Very pleasant hotel. Warm welcome. Traditional style. Good breakfast and close to town centre. The next door bistro is worth a visit for a high standard meal at a reasonable price. Chinon is in a good position for touring around several chateaux in the Loire.

This hotel well located in the center of town. We ate at tge restaurant and the food was very good. Their breakfast is excellent and the charge for is very reasonable. They only problem encountered , our room had been assigned to someone else. We were accommodated in the other hotel near by.

Good location and quiet, in a creaky old building

It’s a well-located hotel, across from Place Jeanne (free parking - except market day on Thursday, when you have to park elsewhere). It’s a creaky old building, with thick old polished floorboards, ranged over three floors, with a modern annexe behind over two floors. The manager/owner is friendly and she speaks good English.

There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms (there’s a kettle outside one of the other rooms) and on the third floor there was no WiFi, and even after I pointed this out and the manager said someone would check and fix it, there still wasn’t any.

I can’t say what the breakfast was like, as I was up and out without it every day. But the shower was good and strong, even though the ancient bath was a bit odd with a two-inch drop halfway down.

The breakfast is delicious. The only thing I did not like is that,the shower head is just a handheld shower, it is not attached like a regular rain showers type thing. It's annoying, but unfortunately very common in Europe, so it's not an issue exclusively to this hotel.

We had a lovely time unfortunately the hotel is in a rather tired state especially the room. It was very shabby and lacking comfort. The bathroom although clean had a bath with hand held shower which made showering very difficult and there was no shower curtain so the floor flooded if you used the shower. The bath mat wasn't changed despite getting very wet and dirty.

We, including our dog!, were made to feel so welcome, the staff couldn't have done more, our room was spotless and to finish, our breakfast was excellent, the location couldn't have been better, close to the center of the town and sightseeing We were only able to stay for one night but came away feeling we had spent much longer. We will definitely be booking a weekend away there again.

Rooms need to be seen!

We ended up with a lovely clean room with a great matress and good bathroom. The first room we were offered was on a top floor with no lift and the room was like an attic with a slit for a window...maybe fine for a younger couple but we are 70...with- it and Happening ...I asked if there was another room and she directed us to a motel like room overlooking a roof and then when I asked if that was all she said there was one we would not like facing the front that was just one flight up...we looked at it and it was lovely ,.....why did she hold this room back? We booked a long time ago and for 2 nights....the first 2 rooms were unacceptable!

Helpful hosts

The hosts are very helpful despite them having limited English skills. Mostly the stay was very comfortable and the only main downfall is that there is no lift and a very steep staircase. We ended up leaving our suitcases in the car and taking only the essentials. The staff are very easygoing and do not rush you during breakfast or to check out. There is a pleasant courtyard outside where we enjoyed a picnic and breakfast.

This hotel is in a great location, being easy walking distance from terminal 3 at CDG airport.
Guests check themselves in at the entry, ably assisted by the staff on duty. There are free computers to use and free wifi throughout.
The rooms are somewhat narrow, but the was ample room for the two of us.
The bar and meals are were great and we enjoyed a typical French breakfast.
This hotel is highly recommended for an overnight stay at a reasonable price

My husband and I were traveling through the Loire Valley and had no particular destinations in mind. We found ourselves in Chinon at the end of a day booked this hotel for one night. We were so pleased with it we ended up staying a 2nd night. We had a standard double room. It was on the second floor and for people who have mobility problems, be forewarned, there is no lift. The room was basic and a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. I'm not a great sleeper and I slept very well both nights we were there. We had a lovely view overlooking the hotel's garden. The bathroom had an old turquoise blue suite of fixtures, a la 1970s I would say. But again, it was all clean and tidy. The garden was available for guest use and had lounge chairs and tables in it. We sat in the garden the first night and drank a bottle of local wine. The lounge area of the hotel is also very comfortable for guests. There are guitars, accordions, a chess board all for guest use. The hotel's location is very good, being right near the river but central to the old part of town. There is a large free carpark right in front of the hotel. You can't park there on Thursday mornings due to a town market taking place, but all other times it's ok and no charge. Overall, this hotel suited our needs perfectly and if in Chinon in future, we would happily stay here again.

This is a really lovely hotel. Guests are made to feel very welcome. Our room was large and spacious and it impressed some friends we were visiting. There is a sunny central courtyard f8r guests to eat in orjust relax.The breakfast was fresh and offered the usual range of breakfast foods.The markets were open while we were there and there were plenty of bargains to be had.

Room was very clean with quality bedding, but quite small and bathroom was dated (not like photos) However shower gel/shampoo dispenser was not accessible from the shower! We were looking for a hotel that would be near the local cafes and restaurants and was near the river which it was. It was just right for us after travelling from Calais to the Charente region where we could have a pleasant break from travelling. It was great to be just across the road from the river and enjoy some of delights of the the Loire.
Although we would have preferred not to have to carry our cases up two floors we were pleased with our room, although small, was clean and bright.

Good for bike touring.

We stayed here at the end of a bike tour of the Loire Valley. The hotel is clearly set up to host bike travelers, with secure bike parking & arrangements with tour operators. Overall the hotel was pleasant, with a nice courtyard for having a drink or hanging out. The room was nice & at least one staff member is a native English speaker, in case that matters.

Perfect place to stay

Free parking across the road in the public carpark, nice big room, comfortable bed, nice shower, tea and coffee was free - just outside your room, and right in the centre of town. Very happy with this place. Staff spoke a bit of English too which was helpful.

Christmas Amenities

Everywhere in France shuts for Cristmas and those that do open are very expencive. None of the hotels we went to have English TV chanels so spend alot of money or get bored.

Very basic hotel,with no elevator and small rooms.Tight winding stair case to rooms.Had to schlep luggage up 3 flights. This hotel is not for people with heart conditions or with any luggage.Parking in public lot across the street.Close to city center and sites.No air conditioning,only large widows with no screens to keep out mosquitoes.Hotels doors lock at night.Must insert room key in slot in adjacent door to enter.Hotel staff does not inform you of this handy feature until you go out to dinner and then try getting back in at night.

Welcoming hotel in centre of Chinon overlooking main square and river

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel . Coming from Yorkshire we were surprised to be welcomed by a friendly lady from Manchester! The room (in an annexe) overlooked the pleasant garden at the back of the hotel which can be used for picnics . We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel but used the tea and coffee making facilities in the lobby which also contained lots of information about Chinon and the surrounding area .

This is a decent 2 star hotel in good location in Chinon. Not much charm in rooms or common areas, but the staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good.

We were put on the 3rd story and had to climb 56 steps to get to our room. Not for the faint hearted or anyone who has difficulty with stairs.

2 star hotel with extremely helpful staff

It is a 2 star hotel not very well maintained and room is not very clean - thick dust found on headboards and elsewhere. Towels are thin and greyish. Beds are sagging and blankets are thin. We had to use the bed covers to keep warm. The only window in the room is the bathroom window which has rotten frame and one could smell mildew for it opens to a enclosed space with liter. Also One has to walk up open air stair case and corridor to reach room. It is extremely inconvenient and dangerous when raining as the stairs becoming very slippery.

The saving grace is the hotel location is quite good at the edge of Chinon which is convenient to visit chateaux at the west side of Tours in Loire Valley. It is a better choice than staying at Tours in our opinion. Hotel staff is also extremely helpful. They brought out laptops for us to access internet though the connection is kind of weird and not very stable.

We dont mind to stay there for the purpose of visiting nearby chateaux but we are still disappointed by the conditions of the hotel. We do not expect any charm but at least a clean room with adequate facilities - it lacks both.

Det værelse vi fik var okay, men ikke bedre end det. Sengene var utrolig hårde at ligge i. Værelset lugtede af skimmelsvamp, der var plamager på vægge og loft efter potentielt vandskade/fugtskade. Badeværelset lugtede stærkt af fugt og der var lagt et mærkeligt gummi gulvtæppe på, som også føltes fugtigt når vi gik på det med bare tæer.
Og for at toppe oplevelsen kravlede der en stor snegl ud under cisternen på toilettet - hvor kom den fra???
Nej - vi kommer gerne tilbage til Chinon men det bliver ikke på dette hotel.

Quelle déception! La première chambre était une chambre de bonne sous les toit sans clim, petite, pas super propre, salle de bain minimaliste. Mobilier extrêmement vieux, tv minuscule au bout du lit tellement la chambre était petite. Seconde chambre plus grande mais toujours aussi moche et le matelas était tout déformé, la porte ne pouvait pas se fermer. A 100€ la nuit pas étonnant que mes collègues soient allés à l’Ibis. Dans les 2 chambres je n’ai pas etait a l’aise une seconde.

Chambre pas insonorisée située dans une annexe sous les combles au second étage. Pas top pour des séniors. SDB avec baignoire et poutre au dessus. Sèche cheveux qui ne fonctionnait pas. Les photos du site montrait des photos de chambres plus confortables. Sinon hôtel bien placé avec restaurant à côté.

Un bon sejour

Venue pour une épreuve sportive, l hôtel est très bien situé en plein centre ville Avec un grand parking.
Les chambres sont confortables dans cet établissements ancien (parquet qui grince donc sûrement bruyant pour nos voisins quiz nous avons aussi entendu avec le réveil matinal pour votre marathon).
Tout état propre, chambre et salle d eau.
Le personnel est charmant et à l écoute.

Déçu cette fois-ci. La température dans la chambre était limite à l'arrivée. Pas de chauffage dans la salle de bain et plus de gel douche dans la douche.
J'avais réservé une chambre avec un grand lit et on a eu 2 lits jumeaux.

Le Plantagenet est un hôtel bien placé dans Chinon, le stationnement d'une voiture est facile et gratuit. Il a beaucoup du charme et l'équipement de la chambre que j'avais allait à l'essentiel et le plateau avec thé/café/infusion et bouilloire est appréciable. La literie est très confortable, le petit déjeuner buffet est divers. Enfin le rapport qualité prix est très interessant

De jolies photos mais elles doivent dater un peu, l'hôtel n'est plus aussi attrayant. Nous avons eu une chambre bien en dessous de ce que nous attendions par rapport aux photos. Le petit déjeuner est correct mais pas au niveau d'un 3 étoiles.
