Overall the stay went well, although the room did not meet expectations after seeing pictures, with it feeling worn and in need of refurbishment, and the car park full of pot holes. You could also hear guests in other rooms, especially as they flushed toilets, used the shower, and made noise.
Staff were friendly and inviting and beds comfortable. I would mark it more within 3.5 stars than the advertised 4 star.

The hotel is very cosy and has a nice albeit small swimming pool, we didn’t eat at the hotel so cannot comment on food the general cleanliness was good .
The room itself was below a standard expected for the price paid but as I booked through hotels.com , I think I paid a premium, the room was very hot so made it uncomfortable to sleep even though I turned the radiators off. The bed itself was very comfortable nice thick mattress and two comfy pillows, the worst part was the morning , shower was stone cold so could not use, some of the furniture in the room had seen it’s best days ie the desk and side tables ,there was also some nasty stains on the carpet, but as this is a new forest hotel with lots of hikers staying , I guess that is to be expected, there is plenty of parking and hotel is well situated for exploring the new forest. Based on the price I will give this hotel a rating of 3 stars .

Check in was quick and receptionist was professional.
Bedroom was clean. Comfortable bed. Kettle/tea and coffee. Quiet.Bathroom needed updating. the shower head stand was broken but the shower was a good water pressure and clean.Pub/restaurant on site. Very attentive service. Food was good and a good variety on their wine list.Check out could have been better. The receptionist needed help and took a while to correct our bill. However the lady who helped was very quick and professional.

Most if the staff were lovely. The hotel its self is tired, some parts unkept. This is a shame as the location is perfect, very good for young children and was nice to see dogs welcome. The whole place needs dusting and in the case if our room it needed a re vamp but it was not dirty. The food was very average and the breakfast was disappointing. My last point is the swimming pool was more of a plunge pool only big enough for toddlers and baby’s, not adults.

The Hotel was situated in pleasant surroundings, catered for everyone including children. The staff were very welcoming and easy to approach. The menu choice was very good and the food cooked to a very good standard my wife and I enjoyed celebrating our 45 wedding anniversary here.

There was no lift. Fixtures and fittings came off the wall (apparently held on by good luck and little else)in our room! TV remote originally didn't work. Replaced by very helpful staff. No phones in the room so needed a long and meandering walk through the hotel to reception to report problems. No less than 6 corridor doors needed to be opened (whilst navigating suitcases through the hotel to reach a room very much at the distant end of the building. Somebody obviously had a 'job lot' in corridor doors at some point!!

The breakfast menu was good and it was possible to choose variations from what was available. The room was clean and comfortable. The selection of in room beverages was very limited with no packets of biscuits.

Hotel is lovely although a little tired. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the forest, but only one bedside lamp, bulbs in main light not working, dripping shower, tired decor. We still had a lovely stay and I would visit again but might have a conversation about room choices beforehand. Staff are very friendly, helpful and polite.

The restaurant was nice inside, but the chef always got the order wrong, even from his own menu! .(leaving things off!)..on one occasion, the pre-starter and starter came out together, then 2 minutes later the mains came out too! Leaving a table full of food at once!
The breakfast the next morning, was not good at all , deep fried hash brown! Yuk! ...bacon not seen a grill! Yuk! Tomato straight out the fridge! Other guests had the same problem! One girl with very long dark hair should have had her hair tied back whilst serving food, not good!....unless the chef has changed we will not be returning!

Great location , we stayed in the annexe so can only speak of those rooms. Rooms are fairly tired and not easily accessible for young family with babies or wheelchairs. Swimming pool could’ve done with a tidy up , dirty towels spread everywhere and dirty toilets. All in all we did enjoy our stay and would stay again.

This was our third trip back to the hotel. It's a great place in the middle of the new forest, peaceful and rural. In the morning there are quite often horses and donkeys outside the hotel.
The staff are all friendly and polite too, and there is a lovely little pool as well. This won't be our last stay.

Lovely stay with only a minor issue

We love the new forest collection hotels and have stayed dozens of times over the years, the staff are always friendly and the venues are always cosy and quiet.

Unfortunately on this occasion the previous lodgers had left their dirty underwear hanging on the bathroom door. We understand this is easy to miss if the door is left open while cleaning but it was a bit of a shock as we've never had anything like this happen before. The hotel immediately removed it so it wasn't a major issue.

Due to the age of the property it isn't the most energy efficient but it warmed up fairly quick and we had a great night sleep.

First thing in the morning we were able to go for a snowy walk 10m over the road to kick start our day.

We strongly recommend all the hotels in the new forest collection, the staff and venues will make your stay relaxing and hassle free.

Unfortunately we only stayed for about 15mins. After entering the room the first impression of the Hotel and the beautiful views where quickly diminished due the cleanliness of the room. There was thick dust on the light fitting over the bed, I’d say it had never been cleaned, dust on top of wardrobes, dirt and dust around the back of the sink area, hair in the bath. The room itself was very tired and needed some TLC, walls flaking, tables had stains on and carpet stained also. It was a shame as we were looking forward to the stay but due to my partners asthma this wasn’t suitable. They really need to pay some attention to customers reviews and sort these issues out as this could be a beautiful place to stay.

Our room had not been cleaned with dust on windowsill and cobwebs throughout. The bathroom had mould on the ceiling and shower curtain (which was replaced when we complained). There were limited toiletries in the Bathroom but no soap. No information at all in the room (WiFi code, restaurant opening times, menu, details of the pool (which we didn’t use as it closed at 6pm), map or local information). No mattress topper so we had hard buttons poking into our back when sleeping. Such a shame as the staff were great, the location excellent, the room was quiet and of was a reasonable size. We were offered compensation which we felt reasonable for the problems we encountered. The adjoining restaurant was expensive (£18 for pie and mash) but convenient and the staff attentive and helpful.

My 12year old did not fit on the bunk bed so we know for future bookings to ensure no bunk bed and the mattresses were not great but would return based on location, friendly staff, pool and the property’s overall vibe

we came here to stay for the beautiful views and we deffo had that out our window was stunning but had to hold the window open with a lucazade bottle unfortunately but we made a solution , unfortunately we had the room right by the opening to the next rooms so the door was slamming all night but that’s just pot luck , the service wasn’t great either no one around at times the bar doesn’t take cash either so we couldn’t get a drink as we only had cash on us , the pool was cold but we had it to our selves and soon warmed up , no one really explained anything so we also got locked out as no one explained the key pad properly at half 12 at night , when we came to baths my partner wanted a shower but the cold came out the shower the hot came out the tap so had to have a bath , the water was badly hot so the were also warm , room service no existing and felt anxious to ask for anything , it’s a shame really as we love the new forest and got engaged there on our stay a shame we didn’t have the trip we wanted for this

This is a good hotel in an amazing setting. Comfortable rooms with pleasant views.Seemed to have some staffing issues in their restaurant during our 3 night stay. On the second day breakfast was a buffet rather than to order service with the food not cooked to the usual standard. Never the less, the staff in the restaurant worked hard to provide the best possible experience within their resources.

We had a fantastic stay. The room was immaculate and I could use the lift to our room. (OA in knees) The shower was gorgeous. We came for a memorial which was in the chapel nearby and then refreshments at Buckners Hard. The staff were amazing and did very well, even though a bit understaffed for a while. The food was amazing and delicious. We will, definitely stay again. See more of the sights and the ponies 🥰 Thank you ☺️

This hotel could be so much better. The receptionist was lovely and the area excellent but the building is incredibly neglected with stained carpets throughout. Worse though was the restaurant with an already limited menu limited to almost non-existent because someone had forgotten to order food for the kitchen to prepare. This was exacerbated by the restaurant manager squeakily repeating that it was not his fault 🙄 That said, breakfast was a pretty sorry affair with a poorly prepared and tasteless full English.

Initial impressions…outside looks great, bar and dining areas very cosy and inviting. Had to wait 10minutes at reception as no-one around. Although a sign on desk did say ‘back shortly’ I just wanted to check in after a long day.
Was told I was upgraded as I was a late check in which was a nice touch! The Room was a decent size, warm and quiet. However, felt room was basic, no towels, bottle of water was empty and there was rubbish in the bin. Room was clean and beds were made up so obviously the cleaner left in a hurry! I was offered a complimentary drink at the bar as a result of this. Wifi in room 15 has a poor signal. The TV was ok but could really do with updating. TV guide didn’t work. Overall room was ok but nothing special. Didn’t eat at restaurant but again looked cosy. Would I stay again? Probably yes, but that’s because of its location in the middle of a beautiful area.

What a lovely hotel and such beautiful surroundings! We had such a wonderful stay, along with the dog (which you need to ket them know prior to the stay). They left a bowl, a towel and dog treats for him, such a lovely touch. He was also warmly welcomed in the pub for dinnner and breakfast. I loved it so much im already planning ahead for when we cancome again!

We stayed for my wife’s birthday. The place needs some serious Maintenance and there were never any staff around. The ‘drift’ restaurant is chaotic. They had run out of many things. I had pre-arranged for the kitchen to make us a birthday cake. Despite me clarifying that we wanted a chocolate cake we got a jam sponge cake which we were all disappointed with.

Inconsistent and disappointing

We arrived late and the lady stayed to check us in which was lovely. The room was ok but small for a family of 4 with 2 young children. The other room we booked for 2 other family members was bigger but had previous water damage with paint and wallpaper coming off the walls. The receptionist was lovely and knew answers to questions as well as ensuring that we had everything we needed. The staff in the pub however were slow and answered back. We had a meal 2 days in a row that was a different portion size each time and instead of making it right they just left it and we had to pay the same amount. We were sat at a dirty table, not provided with a highchair for our 8 month old baby, just a booster seat. Eggs at breakfast were undercooked or overcooked. Barely right. Sausages were tough as if they had been under a lamp for too long. Our child had more ice cream than we did on the same dessert. It was just so inconsistent. Each day when cleaning the room, no dirty towels were removed, nor dirty glasses and spoons. Towels were replenished and beds were made but when staying for 3 nights we had a huge pile of towels and dirty crockery with the already small family room. Main toilets were dirty and hand towels were everywhere at 9.15am on Sunday, they clearly hadn’t been cleaned from the wedding party the previous night. Lots of training needed and a bit of TLC. We won’t be returning.

Dislike: 1. even though rooms were available when we arrived at 10:30 we were not allowed in until 11:00. 2. The food was very good but service was dreadful - at dinner we waited nearly an hour for our food and it took 2 hours from arriving to our dessert order to be taken - At breakfast, we waited over 30 mins for the cooked breakfast and had to remind the waitress. It then arrived immediately but was dried up. 3. Even though we left the 'please make up room' notice outside the room nearly all day it was never done.

Stayed in one of their garden rooms and honestly couldn’t really fault it. The room was bigger than I expected. Quite close to the railway line but that stops at night. Didn’t disturb us and we had the windows open. Restaurant is in the attached pub, food and service excellent for pub grub and we tailored ours.. no problem for the staff.

Well, firstly the location is Stunning and the stay here was part of our anniversary celebrations. Dining staff were excellent, however booking in did go well receptionist quite rude. I know we were 30mins early, were told to \"go away and comeback at three\", okay, but found that quite rude could have been delivered better surely. Now the room, the walls and ceiling had scruff marks on them , mould on the window frames and windows needed a good clean wash basin waste did not retain water and slowly ran away with the plug in place. would have been nice to have a shower cubicle and not a shower over the bath, maybe other rooms offer this. We booked a deluxe room with a double bed I know what a double or single bed is, ours was two singles pushed together what is that called how about uncomfortable and not what i requested. Should i have complained yes but really SHOULD i have to do that. The trip was great the hotel was not! Sadly disappointed in view of the cost.

Our room let us down

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting with very friendly staff. We enjoyed lunch at the inn next door & soaked up the beautiful location of the hotel before check in. The reception staff were lovely on our check in & even provided a big bag of treats for our dog which was a lovely touch. Unfortunately once we got in our room, we were met with a broken bath, a leaking shower head, scribble marks & scuff marks all over the walls & doors, dirty marks on the bed linen & a dirty ear bud on the floor! Also our room was next to a staff door & they smoked right outside our window which meant we couldn't open our windows to get some fresh air in. Its such a shame. Lots of small things accumilated to such a disappointment. The hotel itself was so relaxing & the location was the best, so it makes us sad that our room was really not in a good state & because of that we really cant warrant paying to stay again.

The staff were very friendly. The food was good but the restaurant was cold both in the morning and evening. The box of biscuits supplied was already opened and a biscuit removed. The area is lovely and easy walks straight from the door. The pool is not really suitable for swimming. Car charging was a bonus.

Lovely hotel, unfortunate experience.

The location of this hotel is truly beautiful, hotel itself appears quite clean and is quite elegant and quirky, however there was an unwelcoming odour around the lobby/halls when we arrived. Unfortunately the shower water in room 11 wouldn't warm up so I had to have a very cold shower and we were rudely awoken by rude guests at 6am as they were clambering around and talking loudly without any regard for anyone else. When we advised the concierge in the morning of the Issues we had the young lady was very uninterested and didn’t even apologise for the inconvenience which seemed very unprofessional and impolite. My mum stayed in room 35 and had issues with her electricity however this was attended to quite quickly and Resolved. Most of the staff were lovely and the pub staff are very welcoming and friendly. Especially Tracy and Machej (apologies for misspell)
Having said all of the above, this is a lovely hotel with a very good price within the new forest. We will likely give this hotel another visit in the future in hopes of a better experience.

Had a 2 night stay here and took our 2small dogs which was one of the main reasons for choosing this hotel. We were allocated a room separate from the main hotel. The room was large and spacious but had stained carpets and generally tired looking. The bathroom had water damage to the skirting boards.
Maybe this is the room you get if you take your dogs @ £60 extra.

Sewage smell

The corridor and our room had a terrible smell of sewage! Reported the problem, I believe they knew about the problem but acted a little shocked.
I was hopeful they may move us to another room but unfortunately not.
Having 3 young children and paying a lot of money for a family room that smelt of sewage, we really were not very impressed, we obviously spent the least amount of time in the room as possible.

For how much it was disappointing was to say the least the room had cob webs every where carpet was badly stained all over some of it looked like blood, previous children had drawn all on the walls.
Also the corridor to rooms 24 and 23 smells of food and grease all day and night as the kitchen exhaust is right at the window,
Very out dated carpets leading up the stairs were duck taped together
Don’t get me wrong the location is amazing but the condition of the inside for £410 for two nights seriously let’s it down

Stunning location.
Unpleasant and unwelcoming check in.
Comfortable bed.
Forty minute wait for a burger, in an empty restaurant.
Most staff couldn’t care less.
Spider webs in the bathroom.
Other people’s hair in the bathroom.
Cold shower (just once).
Bar had ran out of lager because they had been busy at the weekend, four days earlier.
Wrong phone number on its web site.
Stale breakfast croissants.
One waitress thrust their food at some diners then left them to find their own cutlery.
No shower gel.
Not in Brockenhurst, as it claims in its address, but a 20 minute (£25) taxi ride away. If you can get a taxi.
All such a shame.

Coaching Inn in the heart of the New Forest

Great location in the heart of the New Forest. We wanted to visit Exbury Gardens and Bucklers Hard, so very convenient for both of those. Nice to wake up to a view of ponies and cattle as well. Bed was comfy as well.

No hot water

The hotel has a great setting and suited our needs apart from we had no hot water in our room so for our stay neither of us could shower. I explained the predicament but it was not resolved. Their website does not allow you to write a complaint but I will send a letter to the managet
