Not the first time we have stayed here, but sadly seems to be in a steady decline.
Room was dusty, and cobwebs, the furnishings are worn and just doesn't feel clean.
Our biggest issue though was being told the restaurant closed about 8pm at 7.55pm, a Hotel on a Saturday evening not serving food, added to that the bar was closed too.
Not what you would expect from what should be a great hotel experience, staff all seemed very indifferent.

My first impressions were very positive as the hotel is in a great location in Maidenhead and only a short walk to a variety of restaurants and eateries both chain and independent. The parking area is quite extensive allowing more than enough room for hotel and restaurant guests. There is a stylish reception area with friendly staff who checked me in early after confirming my room was ready. The room was artisticly decorated especially with the bathroom area. There is a well functioning air con unit as well as a nice fan. My main disappointment was that one of my main reasons in booking my accommodation was to use gym facilities. In enquiring about this, I was informed that the spa area was being renovated and not able to be used by guests until April. The lady on reception said that I should have been informed but the only message I received from the hotel did not allude to this. This was the only let down on a stay which would have been give 5 stars otherwise. My 3 main scoring criteria for an overnight stay is the shower, the sleep and the next morning's breakfast. All 3 were very good and combined for a stay at a place I would love to stay at again given the chance.

The hotel is lovely, but unfortunately We received a message saying the Spa & pool were closed for maintenance reasons after we had booked. (Non refundable)
Found reception staff very pleasant to deal with but also very impersonal. And very scarce! Nobody to be found anywhere at anytime!
Nobody offered an apology or even an acknowledgement even though we had booked our stay purely based on the spa facilities. It would have been a nice gesture if they had offered to compensate- even a very small gesture would have been appreciated.
There is a pod coffee machine in the room with instructions but no coffee pods :)
We were given 2 rolls of toilet paper and they weren't replaced at all during our stay so pack your Kleenex!
We weren't given clean water glasses either- room was cleaned but there was no extra effort put in.
Fredricks has always been lovely but it is looking dated and could do with some upgrades.
Overall a good stay but I couldn't give 5 stars unfortunately

Received a phone call two days before I checked in saying the spa was out of use indefinitely. We got a room upgrade, but the decor throughout the hotel is very dated. Breakfast was poo, the cooked English breakfast was made up of cheap ingredients, not worth the money even at half the price.

Spa was closed on arrival, which was a disappointing start to the stay. The restaurant atmosphere was uncomfortable and almost silent, making it an unpleasant dining experience. Despite chicken being listed on the menu, staff were unable to prepare a simple chicken salad, which felt unreasonable.

The rooms were very dated and clearly have not been upgraded in many years. Overall, the hotel felt tired, poorly managed, and not worth the money. I would not return or recommend staying

The room was boiling and the heater was stuck on 26 degrees so we had to switch it off.

I cut myself on a spring on one of the chairs. The lady on reception was very apologetic but no offer of any recompense.

The hotel is dated but our room was spacious with plenty of storage space had we been staying for a longer period of time. Bathroom was very clean and again large.

Beds weren’t super comfy but for one night they were sufficient.

Dirty room, shower had more timescale than a council estates kettle, appalling customer support, fire alarm blaring continuously all night, I was told to go to my room or leave if I didn't like it after complaining and now been refused a refund after this unfortunate event and disgusting attitude towards myself. I do not recommend this hotel in any way, I'd rather have slept in a bush full of thorns than stay at this hotel again.

Our stay at Fredrick’s Hotel and Spa was absolutely awful. The property is extremely old and smells unpleasant from the moment you walk in. The room reeked of damp feet and stale air, and everything felt neglected and unclean.

The beds and pillows must be from the 1920s — thin, lumpy, and impossible to sleep on. The windows and blinds were covered in cobwebs and dead spiders, clearly untouched for ages. The doors looked damaged and patched up, and the room keys didn’t even have keychains.

Cleanliness was shocking. The “fresh” towels had hair on them, and the toilet had years’ worth of scale — clearly they’ve never heard of descaler. The ventilation didn’t work, so the room was stiflingly hot at night, even with the window open.

The mini bar was completely empty, and although there was a capsule coffee machine, no capsules were provided — not even one. Downstairs, the bar didn’t have a milk frother for coffee, which says a lot about the attention to detail here.

The spa, which is supposed to be the highlight, was freezing cold. The door between the indoor and outdoor pools doesn’t close properly, so the whole area was drafty — both my husband and I caught a cold after using it. Only two out of four pool jets worked, the steam room has apparently been out of order for weeks, the lounge cushions were full of mould, and several showers were broken.

This place needs a complete renovation and proper management. It’s falsely advertised as a luxury spa hotel.

My stay was fine, nothing stand out awful. I would say that the hotel room was tired and tatty. Wallpaper peeling, stained carpet, dusty and the taps hadn’t been polished in a long time. I gave them a quick buff with a towel and all the watermarks came off.

Hotels please train your staff not to say your room number out loud when checking people in. This is a safe guarding issue and an easy fit.

Booked this as the spa with indoor/outdoor pool looked fantastic - it wasn’t. Very disappointing - the spa closed at 8pm. The pool has odd glass doors inside the pool you have to push a switch to open, then the pool outside was ridiculously hot, like swimming in bath tub! Shower in changing room full of timescale. Fixtures and furnishings straight out of the 80’s, all needs upgrading. Steam room was off. First room I was offered smelt musty, changed room - hairs in the bath, bath dirty, room was tired and needed refurb. Miss matched lampshades, tired furniture. When I checked in, I thought the hotel was closed with hardly anyone staying. Restaurant not open, nowhere within walking distance to eat. Breakfast was the only good point.

I would not recommend staying at this property unless you fancy staying in a real Fawlty Towers hotel. (That would have been better to be fair)
Our room, President Suite, which advertises \"seperate sitting area, seperate dining area\" was actually a single chair and a coffee table. There was a cupboard \"guest valet\" nothing inside. The room was full of cobwebs. In the room was A/C however it did not work. In the bathroom there was a leaking tap we could hear dripping all night. Apparently there was no maintenance person because they didnt have one.
Sticking out of the wall in the bath/shower were 2 metal rods which we believe were the bare workings of the dripping bath tap. Dangerous to say the least.
The spa area some showers were not working. Some tiles fallen on the floor. Towels on the floor to stop slipping presumably where most places use mats. Steam room didnt smell the best.
Sauna missing slats some rotten.
The in pool glass doors seperating inside pool /outside pool didnt look like theyd been cleaned in a long time. The buttons for working the jacuzzi bubbles were not working. One was hanging off. Missing tiles leaving sharp edges. Outside the wooden pergola was in a state of disrepair. The patio area was a tripping hazard in places.
Just near reception was a champagne bucket with towels around it in the middle of the floor catching water dripping from the ceiling. No warning sign. I could go on but ran out of space.
One word to describe this hotel, Deplorable!

Its hard to review this hotel. I largely received great service, the team serving me for dinner were so helpful as was the support from the Spa team. (Monday breakfast was not good),the room had mostly everything I needed and the hotel had an outdoor pool.

The problem was the outdoor pool was like a hot bath. it was warmer than the indoor bit. the excuse was that the sun had heated it and there was nothing to be done to cool it down. I managed to cool down by standing under the cold sprinkler in the garden. not something you want in 30 degress sunshine.

the hotel and rooms are simply outdated. added to this, no fridge, the kettle didn't work, the bath tap dripped and the bath had yellow marks, nobody came to make my bed during my stay and the bath soap was empty and I had to go asking for more coffee etc.

The food was not good. I'd argue that it was largely frozen. probaby a cost cutting exercise rather than chef ability. They don't serve lunch even though on Saturday I was told the chef would make me something on Sunday, they changed their mind when they found themselves short of staff. Most of us ended up ordering delivery food for dinner

I now know why it was reasonably priced. It could be really good even with the outdated decor

It’s such a shame. This hotel has such potential, but really lets itself down.
Very tired all over, could also do with a clean too. Dirty walls and flies in cabin area in the breakfast room.
No air conditioning in the rooms and the restaurant never seems to be open.
The outdoor pool area is good especially in this heat, but it’s dirty and water stained everywhere, plus the patio could do with a weed.
The staff are strange. Most things are too much effort, like the broken air con, coffee pods and sun beds.
Would we come again? I’m not sure. It’s a good price for a hotel with an outdoor pool, but doesn’t leave you wanting to come back

We were recommended to use this hotel by a couple who have stayed there twice before. It is a clean , smart and has good Kerb appeal. The only disappointment was that it was a warm day and upon entering our room we noticed it was very warm in there and upon trying to use the air conditioning we found it was broken and not working. I contacted the reception asking if I could be moved to another room. I was told that there were no spare rooms available. I found this strange because it was a Saturday, and I noticed several keys hanging up behind the reception desk, suggesting that spare rooms were available. I noticed that there was an upright fan in the room, which suggested to me that they were aware of the air conditioning problems before I was allocated the room. Anyway I asked for another fan because the single fan was making no real difference. The man on the reception said he would try to get us another fan. Unfortunately, no fan arrived and we had to just ' Grin and Bear it ' The stay was spoiled by this small air con problem. I would stay there again if the management could guarantee that I had a fully functional bedroom.
Overall, this is a good-looking hotel spoiled by poor maintenance.

A real Gem

There is something very special about Fredricks, at the edges it may to some appear a little frayed, and the décor a little dated, but to me this is charming, like a good pair of shoes, its comfortable, fits well and familiar. The rooms are lovely, the beds very comfortable, the customer service excellent and the food, well the food was absolutely amazing. There is something special about this place, relaxing and comfortable.

Give It A Miss...Until The Place Has Been Fixed.

The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, especially the manager, Brian. The suite we had had serious issues. The bathroom floor was supposed to be heated, but it wasn't. The towel warmer rack did not work. The sink did not drain. The show drain did not drain. The coffee machine and ice maker were both broken. The sofa was ancient and collapsed. The spa steam room was not operational. The food, other than breakfast, was simply dreadful and everything was so over-salted most dishes were inedible. (I can cook better with my eyes shut). They ran out of bananas, so a staff member went to the nearest Shell station to buy some, which was very nice of them. There were no roof safes or bathrobes. As I said the staff were great, but they knew the place was not really functioning properly and were most apologetic all the time. Of course, there were no EV Charging stations.

On arrival our booking was wrong. We had requested minimal stairs for my wife and a classic twin room. They had designated a double. We were given an upgrade to a suite. Great! but it was up a flight of stairs.
In the end my wife managed them with a struggle. Problem apart this is a lovely hotel.

Nice hotel , but when checking in on the evening I felt rather not wanted there , was looked up and down by the two lady’s on reception they didn’t tell me much other than here’s your key , I think it’s because I was in my workwear , but I still payed the same as everyone else there ? Won’t be staying again!… I’ve worked away for 20 years and stayed in a lot fancier hotels and been made to feel a lot more welcome. The lady on when checking out in the morning was lovely though

Breakfast was really good, with good choices.
Didn’t use spa facilities.

To improve, some TLC in the room. There were a few lightbulbs that were out, and the shower head could do with replacing. The heating was via a single electric radiator by the front door which meant the bathroom was very cold in the morning. I could also only reduce the temperature for up to 2 hours before it would automatically go back to 24 degrees, which was too hot overnight.
WiFi also poor, ended up using my 4G.

Overall, would return as positives out-way negatives.

I slipped whilst taking shower in the bath. There was no mat provided.
On checking with the front reservations, I was informed that there was a shower mat in the cupboard in the bathroom. On checking I did not find a mat and informed the front Staff member. I did not receive a reply. As a result of my fall, I later found extensive bruising on my right upper thigh. I had left the Hotel by this time. The heating system was not working in the room. Informed staff who stated that it would be fixed. It was not fixed upon leaving.

We arrived at the hotel At 11.40 pm was given a room, we had just unpacked and they came and knocked on our door and moved us to another room as the water apparantly didn’t work in this room?

We went up to room 8 our new room showered which was terrible and got straight into bed. When we woke up and got out of bed we found that the sheet and inside duvet cover was stained with old blood.

We complained when we left and they refunded our money .

Generally it’s a nice hotel - some areas looked a bit tired though. When I arrived I had to ask for the carpet in my room to be vacuum cleaned. I had an executive double room that was quite smartly decorated, however the air conditioning wasn’t working and the kettle switch kept flicking off - which I found annoying. The shower curtain was stained at the bottom and wasn’t “executive room” standard. Unusually only one hand towel in a double room?
The window in the room overlooked the garden but it wasn’t very clean. The area of flat roof immediately below the window had a mixture of gravel and moss and looked unsightly - it really ought to be tidied up.
The buffet style cooked breakfast was okay but nothing exciting. I didn’t like the way the eggs were presented and I didn’t like the fact that the egg white was slightly runny on the egg I had - so I didn’t eat it.
The staff all seemed very friendly. Lovely garden area. Convenient location close to the M4 and less than a mile into the town.
I have stayed at this hotel before and would happily stay again.

The hotel is tired and dated, it needs a major refurb.
The staff were ok but pretty indifferent. Certainly nobody has any pride in the hotel. As example is the garden, it was quite a nice day and ordered a glass of wine, which we took outside to the garden. There were numerous tables, all unoccupied, yet ever one of them had a dirty ashtray on. The hotel was pretty empty so you had to assume that they had been there a while!

4 night business stay, bed was massive and very comfy and room was passably clean.

The whole place could do with modernization. Gym does not open till 9am which is daft as when staying on business you need to be at work by then. Sauna, steam room and pool was nice and a bonus to have the use of.

Breakfast service was painfully slow, 3 of the 4 days it was a menu service which took ages to come out. Other day was a buffet style set up and the food was warm rather than hot.

On balance I will stay again provided the price per night is not over £110 inc breakfast for a double room.

The property felt like a time warp going back to the 1980s with the wear that would be expected. The room and hotel felt very tired. Our room had a shower head that was cracked which allowed for gushing water to come out when turned on, the air con did not work, the fridge was placed on top of the worktop leaving a gap in the cabinetry that once housed it. Overall it was disappointing.

The room was large and comfortable but very warm as there was no air conditioning.
Check-in was a bit chaotic as they didn't seem to know what had been paid in advance and what hadn't.
I was only able to have breakfast one day of my stay as breakfast didn't start until 8am and i had to leave before that but the breakfast was good.
The biggest disappointment was that they emailed the day before my stay to say the pool would be closed for refurbishment - they must have known about this at the time of booking and it was very bad practise to leave it so late before informing guests. When we checked in, there was no apology for the late communication. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

The staff at Frederick's was so helpful and friendly and personable. I felt very cared for and welcome, which is nice as traveling can be a bit lonely. The only reason I am not giving the property 5 stars is that the pool was under renovation, but it won't be next time I come back.

2 night weekend stay.

The hotel looks very nice and my room was very nice. My room was spacious and clean, and had a large bathroom. It had a king size bed that was very comfortable and good wardrobe space. However, upon arrival the room felt cold, and the bathroom felt very cold. The bathroom central heating radiator wasn’t working, and with the outside temperature being near zero, the bathroom was very uncomfortably to be in. The hotel must have known there was no heating. I did complain but nothing was done to address the problem.

Luckily I had taken my own toiletries with me as the tiny amount of shower gel provided wasn’t enough for 2 days of cleansing, and it wasn’t replaced by room service. Milk and coffee in the room was also not topped up by room service - so I bought some milk from a Tesco store and kept it fresh in the cold bathroom.

I had dinner in the hotel on the first night, but I was informed that there was a Christmas party at the hotel that evening, and I would have to dine early - I was made to feel like an unimportant customer - which I didn’t appreciate. Consequently I went to the dining room earlier than I would have liked to. I was the only person there and the room was uncomfortably cold. I ordered sea bass fillet on a bed of gnocchi - which I didn’t enjoy. The sea bass fillet was meagre, and the sticky toffee pudding desert was served below hot, and I didn’t enjoy it - In fact, I wish I’d have gone elsewhere. I didn’t eat in the hotel after that bad experience.

Hotel Ok but booked for spa facilities and very disappointed to be told they are only complimentary 5pm-8pm and a significant extra charge to use in the morning of our stay. Never experienced this anywhere else.

Beds were so uncomfortable it was like sleeping on a water bed.
Rooms were tired and dated. In need of updating.

The property was clean and the breakfast was good. On the Saturday they let you choose a breakfast option but on Sunday it is breakfast buffet and self service. The staff are very friendly. I was very disappointed that the pool was only complimentary for guests to use from 5pm to 8pm. Before 5pm, you have to pay to use the pool. The room AC didn't cool the room but they provide a fan to help on warm days. The property is a 10 min walk to the train station and a 15 min walk to the town center.

A disapponting stay at this so called 4 star hotel. Advertised as spa access with no restrictions stated on the hotels.com website or their own website however there are restrictions and access is only between certain hours on the day of check in. Use at other times is charged at £35 per person!! Breakfast was also disappointing we were first in the breakfast room and the food was dry and looked (and tasted) like it had been left out for a long time. We were not the only guests that had issues with the hotel and when i approached the hotel staff to complain i was told that complaints were only dealt with via email and that noone would be listening to what i had to say.

The place looks tired and run down for a 4 star rated hotel i expected better when i checked in i felt the receptionist was arrogant and surly towards me..
i stayed in an executive suite the mattress was sunken and very uncomfortable and i struggled to get a good nights sleep
The bathroom the water press was non existent
The restaurant the food was mediocre, and i had to look for staff while waiting to be seated.
For the amount i paid for the reservation i expected more when you consider just a few yards along the road The Holiday Inn provides much better service/facilities than Fredricks very dissapoonted

Hotel in a poor state of repair - nothing like the photos presented in the profile. Areas of the room were chipped & broken and poorly cleaned.

The spa areas as well were in dire need of restoration - form the photos implies it is a 4 star property but the bathrooms particularly bad state and the shower hardly working. Electric heaters everywhere. For the price paid was extorsion to only see the true state once we had arrived and had been for 'luxury' weekend away...... Very angry & disappointed

I was staying for one night for business and had a terrible experience. After putting my belongings into my room I went out for dinner but when I came back my key wouldn’t work on the door and neither would the master key. I was then moved to another room but didn’t have any of my belongings being told the door would be fixed in the morning so I could take my belongings. The door wasn’t fixed, instead I had to go to work meeting a customer in the clothes I had worn the day before, with no toothbrush or deodorant to use which was very embarrassing. After finishing a days work I then went back to the hotel to get my belongings because they had finally fixed the door but they had packed all my things for me which I did not appreciate while I was away, thankfully I had no valuables in my room. The bath was also pretty dirty as you could see the layer of grime washing away as I used the shower and the overall condition of the room was very aged. I was given no compensation for this or even a satisfactory apology from anyone, it seemed more like I was just making the staff annoyed that they had to deal with something. I travel a lot for work and stay in all kinds of places but never leave a bad review but I don’t want anyone else to have to deal with this. The locals did tell me to avoid this place but i thought how bad could it be.

Dubstep wake up call from the kitchen

The hotel was ok. Looked very tired. And the same with the spa. Neither the steam room or sauna were particularly warm. However the best part was the 6.30 wake up to music blaring out of the kitchen situated near our room. And being told at reception there wasn't much they could do
And the smell of weed the night before by the fire exit. Maybe linked? Shower in the room not great either, overall a very dated hotel. Wouldn't rush back.

Frederick's Hotel Our Christmas Nightmare

Faulty Towers II is what we now call Frederick's . No question this hotel once had a glorious past. We stayed there over the Christmas period for 5 days in the \"Bridal Suite\". The hotel is poorly managed with management lacking direction and purpose. Events : upon arrival we went to our bedroom . The bed was not made and had old blankets stuffed in a cupboard , the replacement duvet had urine stains on it , carpets had not been vacuumed. After 3 days after complaining we eventually had the hallway vacuumed, however the room was never vacuumed and the sheets replaced, although a load of towels was delivered, and new cups and glass ware, which had to be returned as not properly washed. on 2 day we had no hot water and no one came by to let us know, so went to thew front desk to see if they could give us a room to shower in that had hot water. We showered in a no show room which had a Christmas bottle and puddings in it . We were told all the guests got this for Christmas , except us. Clearly no clarity in management For breakfast for the first day we were told that the chef does not do scramble eggs and the breakfasts were a 1/5. The hotel badly needs some TLC as there is a major need to use touch up paint every where. It definitely is running at a loss and I am not sure why it is still open as it looks like it is being run by an non interested administrator. At night we had to use a head torch to ensure our safety in the unlit halls. Hotels. com should de-list this hotel.

Three days before arrival we had a phone to say all of Spa facilities were closed, negotiated a free dinner on one of our nights stay, our room upgrade was terrible, bath would not drain, extractor fan not working, heating was broken/off ? Given a mobile heater. Felt very sorry for the staff as I have to admit they were very nice under difficult circumstances

Sir Frederick thriller

Disappointed. 2 hours before booking in i get a email to say the main facilities was unavailable. After checking in we witnessed a broken glass on the table a female underwear behind bedside cabinet which i had to ask to remove twice also the cob webs in the room. In return they gave us 1 course complementary dinner that wasnt satisfying. For the price for breakfast was ok if the buffet was for the two days. Its a shame that such a nice hotel that have some many miserable staff members. Had more of a cheerful experience meeting the housekeepers.
For the price i paid and the experience i had i will never return to the Sir Frederick hotel

Had a lovely room, nice and clean with coffee pod machine snd huge bath. Bed was comfortable and staff helpful.
Improvement would be starting breakfast earlier than 7am and improving the continental variety. Cooked breakfast was lovely, great coffee too.
