I stayed for three nights, and the room was cleaned twice. However, the cleaning mainly consisted of making the bed and replacing towels. On my first night, I had takeout pizza, and the box with leftovers remained on the table for my entire stay. I’m not sure why it wasn’t simply removed.

The wristband system for the pool and swimming area felt a bit unnecessary—more convenient access for hotel guests would have been preferable. That said, the pool itself was nice, and the bar was a great addition.

Overall, the customer service felt rather formal and lacked a personal touch. For example, I was scolded for not wearing a shirt in the lobby after leaving the pool, and takeout food could only be eaten in the room. While I understand these are standard rules, a more flexible approach that considers the environment would have been appreciated.

Breakfast, however, was very good overall

We are coming to this hotel every year for our vacation. Great place, rooms are nice , spacious and clean. Breakfast amazing, delicious large area to accommodate everyone. Staff is professional and kind. Plus the have a pool area . Thank you for everything. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends

AC didn’t work in Sept, their central system is either set for heat or cold, but not having the option for both.. there was zero warning and we had to find out the hard way tossing and turning thinking the AC was running when it was in fact the heater, finally calling Hotel technician at 4 AM to tell us and although the Display showed the AC was working when it wasn’t. Also note the hotel is old and a bit rundown, the floor was a little dirty as well. No espresso or Nescafé machine, only packaged Insta coffee and hot water. Food in the restaurant was average. Very disappointing overall.

10 years ago it was a great property, a real jewel. Now the lack of investment it shows up in a big way. We spent 3 nights at the hotel. During the last night they hosted 4 weddings, at the same time in 4 different areas. Apparently the management is trying to make a quick $, regardless of screwing up the customers that already paid for nightly accommodation.
Exceptional breakfast and very accommodating staff, doing their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

The rooms were spacious and a nice breakfast was included every day. The staff were all professional and helpful. There is a lovely indoor pool and spa for an extra charge (free if you book a treatment) that was worth it. They also had a restaurant and bar service in the spa area. I would definitely go back.

It was ok, this might have been a 5-star hotel once but today it is barely a 4-star hotel. Clean but most of the hotel is outdated.

- Service: The service is ok, but not more..

- Pool: Quite a nice pool. good size of the pool, plenty of space to sit and have drink.

- Gym: I visit plenty of hotels and this is by far the best gym i have seen in a hotel.

We will be back!

When we arrived, the receptionist greeted us right away and stated that they upgraded our room. She explained everything perfectly and created an image of what our experience at the hotel could be like. We took advantage of all of her recommendations and we booked the spa for a day.

Our room was spacious and had a jacuzzi tub with a separate shower. The balcony overlooked the city and hills. It was very beautiful even though it is situated in the middle of a residential area. Ubers and taxis are very affordable so we did not rent a car.

We booked a couples massage and took advantage of having lunch in the cafe area of the spa. We choose this hotel specifically because we read that they renovated their spa area. They just completed the work at the end of March and they did an amazing job. All the spa areas were beautiful and we loved the shower area outside the spa that had 4 water temperatures from hot to cold (great idea!).
Our only suggestion is to book a 4 hour spa slot instead of 1 day. We only used the spa for 3 hours and went to dinner so we didn't have time to end the day there and paid for more than we used. The spa is open from 12 - 9. The deep tissue massage was exactly what we needed to end our trip.

We also appreciated the bedside controls for the shutters, lights and a Do not disturb button (genius).

The breakfast had a great variety of healthy options and perfect for what we were looking. for, We definitely will be back again.

The positives were...Lovely decor, comfy room, friendly and helpful reception. The breakfast was lovely.
Negatives.... there were 3 weddings on and the music was loud and clashing. There was nowhere to have dinner except the bar, which was noisy from the wedding music and the menu choice was limited. We opted to eat in our room. One bar staff member was rude and unhelpful when I asked for clarification on 2 of the dishes. We opted for Caesar chicken salad which was actually the worst food I have tasted in Transylvania all week, and the staff did not pay proper attention to what we ordered. Disappointing. The swimming pool is open to the general public so was not at all relaxing as there were several families in the pool.

I checked in and wasn’t even welcomed, I was asked if I had a reservation and I said I did. I was given a key to my room and I was waiting for someone to help me with my luggage but no one came. At a 5 star hotel you expect for someone to help you carry your luggage to your room. No one did. I had a friend joining me at the swimming pool and for outsiders there is a fee to pay to use the swimming pool. Three different staff members asked for three different fees. They should have the same price regardless who is asking.
The hotel was clean and the food was good.

The front desk staff (especially Dan) was fantastic and when my husband and I had a drink at the bar the night of our visit, the bartender was friendly and funny. My problem was breakfast - the service was TERRIBLE. Only one server acknowledged my husband and I and that was only one time when we asked “can we sit here” and she gave us a curt “yes.” Although breakfast was a buffet, the description offered eggs to order. There was no sign of any eggs being made at the buffet, but the same unfriendly server brought other people in the restaurant eggs from the kitchen along with cappuccinos and other types of coffee drinks. And she was interactive and pleasant with those other people. Frankly, I was offended by the lack of attention and it cast a pall over the entire experience.

Hands down the best hotel in Cluj

The hotel staff is very nice, they speak English and are very accommodating. The location is a bit far from the city center but in a good new neighborhood. And for me the highlight was a Lidel grocery store and a Moldovan restaurant within 400 meters from the hotel. The hotel restaurant is also very nice, see the picture of the house steak.

Wonderful hotel, very comfortable and nice to stay

Beautiful hotel, very comfortable and excellent service. Located on the top of the hill and and having coffee on the balcony and looking at the view is wonderful. Room was large and breakfast was the best we had in Romania. Next time in Cluj, we cairtainly will come back to it.
Only drawback was the TV. Not enough English speaking channels (especially news).

Gorgeous hotel! Spacious and clean rooms.
Reception and restaurant service is sub par for a 5 star property. During our first day here it seemed like the staff are not happy. They didn’t smile and were kind of stiff during our interactions. Food at the restaurant is also average in my opinion. The hotel does not have a gym.

Really lovely, clean hotel, rooms were really big and so was the bathroom, breakfast was amazing and the staff at breakfast also, these girls are lovely, really hardworking and really friendly. We arrived at 3am with a baby, the room was ready, the only slight misunderstanding was about breakfast times, the receptionist told us it's from 7:30 to 11:00am (maybe because it was so late at night/early in the morning), but we arrived at 10:40am and they were closing already (turns out it's 7am to 10:30 actually, it even says it outside the breakfast room), but the breakfast staff were helpful and brought us some warmed milk for my daughter and an omelette etc. Overall we had a great time and will return!

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Italia for four nights. It's a smart, pleasant hotel. Located on a hill overlooking Cluj city centre, the hotel offers great views. The lobby is large with a beautiful marble floor. Breakfast is good. You can sit outside on a sunny terrace too.

On the downside the hotel is a bit far from the city centre and it's an uphill walk.

Lovely hotel, nice facilities. There's a large outdoor pool and the building itself is magnificent. Breakfast was also lovely. It's located a little bit outside of town, but this gives you a perfect view over the city and its surrounding nature. A taxi to unity square is about 12 lei.

I must however also point out that this hotel seems to be primarily geared towards hosting events. So on the ground floor you may hear some very loud music (but the building is very well insulated, you cannot hear it on the other floors) and the restaurant they have is usually pretty busy catering for said events, meaning that you may have to wait for your food for quite a while (though the price was good, 120 lei for three people with drinks!) Not sure if I'd give it 5 stars, but 4 stars for sure.

Not for any family! Strip club on premises.

This review is important to any family heading to Romania for a visit to Cluj.
This is a lovely hotel but it is also the home to a Strip Club in its lower level. Thus plan on Drunken Strippers and their patrons being encountered in the lobby and bar. People can live the life they like and I am no prude but it is not appropriate to not advise folks of this situation. As a business owner I would also cross this hotel off the list for my employee's as well. You can guess why.

Nice spacious hotel but not a 5 star service

This is a nice hotel however the service does not match up to expectations of a 5 star hotel at all. The staff weren't particularly helpful at reception, no concierge service and we ate in the restaurant due to lack of anything being close by and a meal took almost two hours for 4 people in a near empty restaurant. When we made a complaint about the poor quality of the meal we had a sarcastic response.......not impressed! Whilst I might stay here again as it is a very nice and spacious hotel I will not eat here again.

We stayed at Grand Hotel Italia Cluj only for 1 night... The hotel is \"grand\", nice and big reception, very big rooms, big bathroom, very big bed ... Nice and clean room, almost new. Free internet and free parking, good breakfast. If you stay at a higher floor you could have a nice view. A minus is that they don't have a SPA area and i can recommend more pillows in room.

Overall the hotel is great, the only few issues I had is that they seem to cater more to weddings and conferences - parking was an issue during these times. Also I found that the food variety varies depending whether a conference occurs while you are there. The staff in the morning at the breakfast need to loosen up a bit and try to portrait a happier demeanor, not very friendly in my opinion. The room was clean and well equipped, over all is a good hotel.

Not a frequent traveller review

Check in was without a hitch despite last minute online booking. Room was changed promptly due to minor electrical fault,overall an excellent hotel with good deco, and layout,value for room/food and service. In addition the reception staff was attentive,courteous and most important competent. They also empathized with my predicament over delayed baggage and went extra mile to track with the airline, plus looking up information on possible sightseeing trips for my two day solo travel, which assistance made my brief stopover in Cluj enjoyable. I will recommend this hotel to my friends. Lastly there is also an efficient system to revert to guest and send back my lost items which I left in my room after check-out. Comforting support.

You really need a rental car or be willing to depend on taxis, as there is nothing of interest for the tourists nearby. It didn't really bother us, because we were only there for one night and even got upgraded to a deluxe room with a fantastic view of the city. A pity, because everything about this hotel is excellent: clean room, friendly and knowledgeable staff, very rich and varied buffet breakfast included in the room rate. I wish I could give a 4.5 for the overall rating.

A lot of money spent in building this hotel, but interior designer did not visit to many 5 star hotels :)

Very big room, but:
- they forgot to put light at the entrance of the room (in front of wardrobe and safe deposit)
- only one chair in room
- only 5 suit hangers
- very small bedside table (no space even for book, because of the big lamp standing on it)
- no telephone near bed (you have to get up and walk across the room to answer phone)

Staff was exclellent, except for the guys serving dinner....

A little out of the way

I really thought this hotel was elegant and quite comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the grounds and rooms very well maintained, but it is a little out of the way. I tend to prefer walking on vacations, because I believe you get more of a feel for the city, and so this hotel is a bit of a hike into town to see the sites. If you prefer I always saw taxis in front of the hotel when I was coming or going; it was just a little further out on the fringe, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, than I had thought.

We liked that it was perched up high on a hill and could see far from our room. It is not walking distance to anything. Services were good. The hotel is very large. The pool is not heated, but they were kind enough to allow us to swim after regular pool hours. The hotel restaurant food was fine. I would return to the hotel again while transiting and looking for a good room.

Great hotel for everybody

Excellent hotel. New, clean, the staff is very helpful. The only disadvantage - relatively far from the city center. But very cheap taxi solves the problem - about five minutes ride. On the other hand this is also advantage - very quiet.

Nous avons passé un séjour vraiment agréable dans ce super établissement. La propreté de notre chambre ainsi que la qualité des équipements étaient plus qu’à la hauteur de nos espérances. Alena (à l’accueil) ainsi que Dan au spa, ont toujours été très accueillant avec nous.

Ce séjour fut donc génial dans cet hôtel, que nous recommandons.

la colazione ottima ,vicino all aeroporto e fuori dal caos del centro ,spa superlativa con ottimi trattamenti ,il mio massaggiatore è stato super professionale.
unica miglioria la pulizia della stanza ,il resto dei servizi perfetti, sicuramente il mio hotel di riferimento a Cluj

Ive stayed at this hotel several times on my regular trips to the city. For every time it gets a bit worse. Earlier it was still descent but now the rooms we had was superwarm during night (24-26 degress celsius) making it impossible to sleep. When complained in the reception they did not do anything about it. The tap in the bathroom sink could only deliver warm water, and the shower termostat was broken. The tap in the tub couldnt be turned on because it was installed in the wrong way.

Maintainance is not their thing.
