The pool was enjoyable. The resort had undergone some remodeling that I think needs a little more attention. The door to the room had gaps at the bottom, so noise traveled into the room. It does not have a complimentary breakfast. They need to invest in more cooking equipment because the food was not cooked completely. The Tiki bar was awesome, and the activities (live music and bingo) were a blast for our party of friends. I will definitely stay here again, but I do hope some adjustments will be made.

The hotel is a perfect location for travelers looking for a clean newly renovated room not far from the airport or the city. The hotel has great open spaces outside and a large pool area with plenty of chairs and space. The pool is clean and refreshing. The manager Katrina was particularly helpful and attentive to guests needs. I certainly recommend The Golden Host Resort for your next visit to Sarasota.

We loved the property. The vintage vibes were fun. The pool and pool area were very nice. The hotel was definitely older and had some quirks but was nice. There were some details that could have been cleaner, like baseboards and doors, but wasn't a huge issue for us. The location was nice and we were able to get to most attractions/restaurants we went to in 10-15 minutes. The staff were incredibly friendlu and professional. Our only serious complaint was that the matresses were soooo soft. You immediately sunk down in them. We were not comfortable while sleeping and went home with super sore backs from it. They need new matresses with some support.

The Staff was very nice. Our room smelled like mold and the comforter was ripped and had blood stains on it. We tried to find another hotel but all were booked. front desk was very nice and apologized. Sitting, they would give us a new comforter period after that, they realized they didn't have any extra comforters to give us. So they gave us a blanket which I was leery to touch period
Pool did not look clean. Therefore, we did not go in it period

A little hiccup initially but WOW was the staff responsive! What great customer service! Rooms are super cute. Do know up front there is no elevator…we did not know but made it work. Also, there is a $150 deposit required which, depending on your credit card statement timing, you may have to actually pay…but I was assured it will be refunded.

The room was not cleaned each day. We had to get towels from the office. They never made the beds. It only takes 10 minutes to straighten up a room, refresh the towels, and wipe down the counters.

I LOVED everything about our stay except for the rowdy party go-ers Thursday night at the Tiki Hut (they were hanging out in the parking lot svreaming). With that in mind, I would still absolutely stay here again because it was that great.

They're under new management and ownership the last 5 years and constanrly making improvements. What I can confidently say is that the place is clean, friendly, and the owners could be seen on site all 4 days I was there and actually getting in the trenches and working hard. Refreshing to see and proves rheyre dedicared to delivering a great experience. I'll be back.

It was good, the place is a bit old. Shower leaked all over the floor. The pool area is excellent with the thatched roof tables, great deck chairs, big swings, really cool. Its somewhat hard to relax though with all the traffic noise from a very busy crazy road just feet away. Typical Florida. Bring earplugs for sleeping - walls are thin and I spent every night listening to the jerks next door either fighting or just running their mouths until 2 a.m.

I am a fan of this property. Kat is great and made the check-in process a breeze. The bartenders in the Tiki Bar were also very nice and overall it is a nice, clean property with a great location! However, the room furnishing are really starting to show its age. Baseboards and doors are looking beat-up with some signs of sloppy maintenance. The housekeeping is very good and the property was very clean, but maintenance needs to be stepped up. Also, our large room simply needed more furniture. There were two nightlights and one large overhead light. Another end table and area lamp would have been nice. Both or our two queen beds were broken down and uncomfortable. Bedding was nice quality and comfortable. Grounds were well maintained and clean. Didn't use the pool due to weather, but looked clean and well maintained. The staff really made this a fun stay, but beds and furnishings really need attention to keep my interest.

A cool, \"throw-back\" place that reminds you of 1950's/60's Florida. Room was clean and obviously updated in the past few years. It's nice to have the Bahi Hut tiki bar right there on the property. The pool area is very nice, but the pool itself could have used a little more cleaning at some point during my three-night stay. I didn't see anyone cleaning it during my time there, and it could have used a little bit of attention. Not bad though. That's my only (small) complaint.

Upon entering the room there is an awful moldy mildew smell. The bathroom had damaged floors with black wet mold on them. The wall and baseboards also the same black mold. The bed was made nicely on top but the sheets and mattress pad were not so clean and looked as if they were not changed. Also we had reserved a balcony room but were given a first floor room. But paid for a balcony room through Expedia. Golden Host required a room payment even tho I told them it was already paid thru Expedia. They did refund that after Expedia contacted and confirmed it was paid. We didn’t stay at this hotel all week assuming the entire place would be in the same condition/shape as the room given. With my husband’s COPD and asthma issues we didn’t feel safe there. Found another hotel down the road. Extremely upset with Expedia and there ratings of the Golden Host Resort. That is what I and others look at when booking vacations.

The room was ok. The entire floor was sticky as though undiluted cleaning solution was left on the floor. I tried to alert housekeeping, and she told me she didn't speak English, but she seemed to understand when I told her responded to her question about towels.

This is an updated motel. It was very convenient to park right in front of our room. We had an accessible room. The bathroom door was supposed to be a barn door, but it had no tracks at the bottom and was hard to keep it closed. Th water pressure was amazing. It was surprisingly quiet in our room. We are going back to Sarasota next month for a drs appt and will stay here again. The price is very reasonable.

The room smelled so strongly of disinfectant that I could not stay there. I felt like they were trying to cover up a worse smell. We tried airing out the room but nothing helped and then I got an asthma attack from it. The bed had clearly been slept in and the covers just pulled up. The door was open when we arrived--we were a little scared to go in. When we shut the door, the gaps on the top, bottom and sides were large enough that we could see outside--which means someone could see INside! After about 15 minutes we decided to cut our losses and hightailed it out of there. Truly a nightmare!

Unfortunately, my husband and I were unable to use the pool or Tiki bar as it they were reserved for a Private Party (wedding). I booked the Golden Host because of the pool and Florida's oldest Tiki bar. If the hotel had told me either when booking or at least at Check-in, I would have been able to make other plans. The hotel makes use of Text messages and could have easily informed us prior to 10 minutes before shutting down the pool. We then walke to the Tiki bar only to find it too had been reserved for a Private (wedding) party.
Only 2 amenities on site and we were unable to use either. Luckily, later in the evening we were able to sit outside by the pool and met two other couples who also felt 'slighted' by the lack of communication.
The rooms have been updated and I would give that 8 points as there is No toilet tissue holder, . And although the room had a mini fridge and microwave as well as a kitchen sink, there were no towels or dish liquid.
In the lobby, you can get breakfast, although this was never mentioned; nor any signage. A little more thought and this hotel could be an enjoyable stay.

Clean, quaint motel with pool and tiki bar. Close to lots of food and entertainment. Very reasonable rate. I had no issues during my stay, but my neighbor had 2 minor issues and stafd fixed them within the hour. Staff was very pleasant and interactive. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

The room. We complained about our first room having a broken dresser, dirty floor and musty bathroom. They switched our room but the second room had issues also (the desk was broken and the bathroom had a bit of a sewer gas smell). We did not complain a second time.

Room was clean, staff courteous and early check was available as 2 different check out times with a fee, was also available. Which it helps with my plans. But my only constructive critique would be the sofa bed need to be steam and the mattress should have a plastic cover to avoid dirt or other stains to get in. I have to flip the mattress to the cleaner side and wipe it.They did bring extra covers, sheets , pillows and blanket. But it had a very good AC and was located by the ice machine and washing machine and dryer. $ 2.00 per wash. Also the dryer. Not bad at all. Really enjoy the microwave and fridge good quality and spacious for the small size and the sink for prepping food was convenient. And the place is secure and clean surroundings. The bathroom was compact but nicely done. We didn’t used the very beautiful pool and bar. Because the purpose of staying was that we traveled from SC to Sarasota for my son’s sport event.

Don’t let the description of this place fool you there is no restaurant. They said there is one going in this weekend.3/7:26.
The rooms don’t look as fresh or the other accommodations by what the pictures show and in my opinion, the neighborhood seems a little sketchy.
Unless you ask them not to, you will have room service come in in the morning, What surprised me was after our first night there we made sure our curtains were closed. We went out for the day when we got back. Our curtain was opened a bit so we knew someone had been in our room. I could’ve sworn it said housekeeping upon request and I had left some things out that if I knew someone was coming in my room would’ve been put away. I’m talking jewelry, cash, etc. They didn’t make the bed they pulled it up like I could’ve done and they emptied one of the full garbage containers not both? And they didn’t leave any new fresh towels? So why come in the room in the first place?
The only reason I gave them three stars is because on Thursday night we had the best time in the tiki bar. It would’ve been nice if they served food, but we did order a pizza that got delivered right there by the suggestion of the bartenders and it was so delicious. The bartenders were a riot! Made you feel very comfortable. They offered two free drinks for your stay, but they choose you don’t. You have a choice of three. Stay again? If I had to. But, if the bartenders were working, I definitely would stop in there to say hello!

For one thing, the coffee pot in the room was in need of repair. I went down to the lobby to get help brought the coffee pot with me. The lady herself was having trouble and she said she really couldn’t get another coffee pot because they were locked up, which I thought was strange. The little tray you put in them wasn’t fitting in correctly. It was very loose and not really fitting in right at all I called the hotel The day was supposed to be down there and let them know I had a flat tire and wasn’t able to make it that night. I had a bad experience had to take a detour to another city that was out of the way to get a tire the next day cause it was on a Sunday. I rode on a doughnut for about 100 miles. I had a really rough day. I thought the hotel might compensate me in someway or be kind or give me a free drink like they do if you book directly with them, they will give you a free drink, but nothing they didn’t even seem to care what I went through. So I missed one night at the hotel and had to pay for it and no little bit of kindness from them at all. Also, my room was on the second floor. Didn’t realize there wasn’t an elevator that I saw anywhere so I had to look all my luggage up and down. Also, when I took a shower, there was no soap dish in the stall, which was really odd. It’s very strange to have to hold the soap in your hand the whole time and then walk out of the stall with soap in your hand. Construction was also going on.

The bathrooms need to be re-done. There is a shower curtain that does NOT work to keep the water in the shower area. As a result, water gets all over the floor, and there is mold on the baseboards in the bathroom, near the shower. This is not good. Also, adding an inexpensive bar or hook for the inside of the bathroom door would come in very handy.

I liked the ample parking and wide spaces. I appreciated there was a bar on the premises. The room smelled ok, no annoying air fresheners. The amenities were adequate and while bare bones, did have spots of quirky upgrades, retro-style refrigerator and microwave. That being said, it would take a degree in electrical engineering to figure out how the AC and microwave worked.

The room was damp all the time. There was a musty smell to it. A switch flipped at some point and caused the fridge power to go out which melted the icecream we had bought. The housekeeping was all over for times of day and even after requesting a sheet change it took multiple days to complete. There was a lack of house keeping tidying or entering the room to change out towels. The TV only has basic channels and there isn't connectivity for watching anything but what is on.

Wi-Fi was good. Staff was polite. The room looked nice on day one.

I would not stay here again.

Stayed 2 nights. First room, 101, smelled like a sewer. Asked for a different room. None available. Identified shower drain as source of stench and plugged it and tried to ventilate room. Went to check out in morning, but was offered room 116. This room was fine. Would not chance staying ever again.
