Disappointing stay despite great location

The hotel is in a fantastic location and the lady who welcomed us was warm and friendly – though she was the only staff member on duty, somehow juggling reception, front of house and the bar during one of the busiest weeks in August.

Our room was small, with a very tight fit getting into the shower, but it was clean and had the bonus of air conditioning.

The biggest disappointment was the swimming pool. On a sunny summer day, I was told there were no towels available to use it – surely a basic expectation for a hotel with a pool. Who brings their own towels to use a hotel pool? Strangely, I saw some guests with pool towels, but not enough to go around, which is poor. When I mentioned this politely the next morning to a different receptionist, I got nothing more than a shrug and no genuine apology.

On checkout, no one asked whether my stay had been good or not, which says a lot about the level of service. For €200 a night, I expected better. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to guest experience overshadowed the positives.

We were greeted very warmly and check in was very efficient. There is no lift but the very helpful man at reception offered to carry out bags.
I had a room with a terrace that was perfect, the terrace is huge, bed very comfortable and the bathroom looked newly renovated.
The breakfast was fine but a little bit overpriced for a modest continental breakfast, pastries fantastic though.
My room did not have a fridge but my friend was in a newer room and it did have one.
Location is great, 2 mins to the sea.
Overall very relaxing stay, thank you.

Delightful and quiet location with short walk to the beach. Lovely gardens and heated pool, not quite warm enough for September though! Breakfast over priced. No other food, advised to use 1 of 3 restaurants on the beach, 2 very expensive and the other basic food of dubious quality, cheaper but still expensive. Room comfortable but rather small. Pleasant private terrace from the room with table,chairs and loungers not usable in poor weather. Not really value for money as at this price you would expect some provision of food/snacks.Our room had intermittent Wifi.

Friendly comfortable hotel

We stayed at Hotel Residence de Rohan for a couple of nights whilst visiting friends in the area and the hotel was perfect for our needs.
The room was great (triple) which was spacious and comfortable for the three of us and copious amounts of luggage.
The owners were extremely helpful.
Lovely grounds which lead straight down to a gorgeous looking beach - just a pity the weather wasn't up to the same standard

Fantastic experience

The hotel, location and service were exceptional. We stayed for 12 nights, in a family room with terrace which was big and beautiful. There are several nearby beaches and a great restaurant on the beach - The Arrosoir. We had a truly fantastic holiday. Thank you so much.

What a treasure!

The hotel is set in a lovely secluded location just a short walk down to a lovely sandy beach with a couple of lovely restaurants set on a promenade, just a fabulous stay, we only wish we could have stayed longer and we will certainly try to return again in the future.

Good position near beach, but...

Room rather small with no fridge/minibar, no tea/coffee making facilities, no safe.
Internet reception poor - I had to move to a another area to get a strong signal.

Characterful hotel a short walk from a sandy beach

We felt very welcome from the start. After a long drive from Calais Damien met us at reception and showed us to our room. We were immediately impressed by the hotel's appearance, the gardens, the pool and its location so close to the beach. Once the car is parked you don't have to use it again. Everything is within walking distance.

Spent a couple of days here while visiting my parents who were at a local camp site. Great location beautiful hotel. Only down side was the room was far too hot and being on the ground floor didn't want to open patio doors. Ceiling fan would of helped. Also a kettle to make tea or coffee would of been appreciated but will definitely go back

The hotel was in an excellent position with beautiful grounds and attentive staff. Our room was spacious but lacked a decent shower and was very warm overnight - although ac was not practical a fan would have helped. Breakfast on the terrace was faultless and the pool area clean and well provided, although similar hotels provided pool towels (don't forget a beach towel).

A really warm welcome, 2 hours before check-in!

Having only travelled a short distance form our previous hotel we arrived just after noon. The people on reception spoke to the room cleaners and had our room ready for us at 1230!! Excellent Customer service. The room was well appointed and very comfortable; our only problem was it was on the 2nd floor!! The pool was lovely with plenty of sun beds and was very clean. It was only a short walk across the beach to the nearest of 3 restaurants.

we enjoyed our stay but thought it was quiet expensive for what you got. pool very good and we liked the breakfast at an additional cost, for what we paid it should have been included. No air conditioning so our fan was extremely useful. We stayed in the old building which we liked, the room was a superior room and had a large entrance area which was useful for bags and shoes etc (room 20). no balcony or terrace like some of the rooms. No fridge. Internet totally unreliable, only 3 times in 5 days late at night, shouldn't advertise it as a service, do not book the hotel if you consider it as essential. Location next to the beach, 3 restaurants but on the expensive side.

The staff couldn't do enough for us. The heated swimming pool was a good size.
There was a very good choice of breakfast foods and you could eat as much as you wanted.

Excellent service from very friendly staff. Easy to walk through garden onto beach with couple of bars and restaurants. About a mile from pontillac beach with casino and more restaurants and approx 2 mile from main Royan beach. Lovely breakfast sadly no evening meals but not an issue. We had a lovely room in the main house overlooking the patio, garden and down onto beach which was bliss. Good quality bedding. We will definately stay again. Only downside, there was no coffee facility in room.

Beautiful shabby chic hotel with a gorgeous garden

Was travelling with two puppies so didn't have a chance to get into the main hotel... my room was in a block with a lovely garden view. The lovely sloping garden runs right down to the beach and prom where there are several very nice restaurants.

Great location if you like the beach!

There really isn't anything bad to say about the hotel itself. lovely location, literally 2 minutes walk to the beach and surrounded by Pines. The beach itself was nice and clean, but busy from around 4pm which is high tide in August so it gets very crowded. As you would expect, with only 3 restaurants nearby, the prices are a little steep. If your French is not so good, the staff at the hotel will happily make a reservation for you.

We only stayed 2 nights as part of a touring holiday, but we'd go back again.

Sublime experience

The hotel and its grounds were wonderful, with the terrace at the rear and its lawns - sloping gently down to the bay 200 metres away - making a perfect place to watch the sun go down, sipping a G&T. Rooms were good dimensions, clean, beds comfortable, bathrooms good. Swimming pool was deep and a very good length. The owners spoke good English and made every effort to be helpful. Great value. I would unhesitatingly recommend Residence de Rohan.

lovely room with terrasse overlooking garden, walk thru garden and you are on the beach. hotel clean, staff friendly and helpful, only complaint was a 'floppy' shower head which wasn't rectified despite our mentioning it at reception. Would definately stay again. Good restaurants within walking distance.

The place and location for beach lovers is excellent, however the room we had was in a block outside the main house. The room was small, needed airconditioning and had no fridge considering the temperatures were up to the low 30s. We had to leave the widow opened which of course resulted in mosquito bites. Breakfast ok but no other services offered particularly for UK visitors.

Quiet place by the beach

This hotel was quiet, clean and comfortable. It is not modern in terms of decor and style, but nor did it need to be. It was exactly what I was looking for and it didn't disappoint. That said, it did have excellent WIFI. There is a lovely restaurant on the beach and the food was well prepared and the staff were helpful and friendly. We only stopped for one night as part of a tour, but we will return for longer next time.

J'aurais apprécié de trouver des mouchoirs en papier et une bouteille d'eau. Ce sont des détails mais, pour voyager souvent, je fréquente des établissements de gamme égale et même légèrement inférieure qui offre ses prestations. Le site de cet hôtel est exceptionnel, au cœur d'un parc magnifiquement arboré.
L'hôtel lui-même est vraiment très beau, et avec une histoire.
Harmonie et bon goût imprègnent tout l'aménagement, jusqu'au détail de jolies bibliothèques Garnier d'un grand nombre de beaux livres de tous thèmes et cultures.
Classe et pointe du modernisme pour tout l'équipement sanitaire.
Petit-déjeuner royal dans une très belle salle...
Une très jolie plage à 50 m, avec un bon restaurant en terrasse autour d'une piscine centrale...!
Un très beau sentier littoral.

Je passais la après 800 km de route vers la Bretagne, et ne suis resté qu'une nuit,
mais je reviendrai pour un séjour, c'est certain.

Sehr hübsches Hotel in Strandnähe.

Wir hatten eine sehr schöne Woche im Silence Residence de Rohan.
Besonderss hat uns die ruhige Lage, die Nähe zum Strand, sowie der Garten mit Pool gefallen. Mit dem freundlichen Personal waren wir sehr zufrieden.
Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und gut. Fußläufig sind schnell 3 Restaurants am Strand
zu erreichen, die in verschiedenen Kategorien ihre Speisen anbieten.

Un \"relais du silence\" charme \"Belle époque\"

Hôtel très bien situé dans un cadre idyllique, beau petit parc arboré avec accès direct à l'océan, jolie promenade sur chemin du littoral. L'hôtel a un charme suranné avec de beaux meubles anciens et des fauteuils en velours. Les chambres ne sont pas grandes mais charmantes, la literie est très bonne, le lit king size. Choisir une chambre en rez de jardin, qui dispose de transats et d'une table pour prendre le petit déjeuner dehors (sans supplément). LE PD est de qualité, les pan cakes sont moelleux... il manque peut-être de la charcuterie pour accompagner les oeufs, par contre il y a un plateau de fromages bien assortis. Le service est souriant et rapide.

Agréable week-end en amoureux grâce à ce magnifique hotel de charme, jolie bâtisse ancienne, joli jardin bien entretenu avec piscine et tout ce qu.il faut, accès directe a une très jolie plage au sable fin et sans cailloux et rochers, du bonheur ! Positionné au calme au milieu de la verdure, personnel adorable et aux petits soins !!! Chambre bien décorée enfin un merveilleux endroit ! Si je veux chipoter : il n'y a pas de restaurant mais ce n'est pas grave puisqu'il y en a plusieurs aux alentours proches, et juste il faudrait faire le ménage un peu plus en détail (intérieur de placard, support des lampes de chevets...) mais dans l'ensemble c'était correcte j'en parle car je suis allergique. Petit déjeuner très copieux : divers petits pains, divers mini viennoiseries (malheureusement non croustillantes les 2 matins) compotes, yaourts, jus de fruits, confitures, beurres, miel, enfin c'est ce que nous avions sur le plateau car nous avions demandé le petit déjeuner en chambre (sans supplément). En conclusion du charme du calme et une equipe formidable.
