A very pleasant 2 day stay in Alor Setar.

A very pleasant 2 day stay at the hotel. The room allocated was spacious, clean and comfortable. I used the gym and swimming facilities and both were good. I used the hotel for breakfast and for evening meals and both were very good with a wide range of selection. All of the staff I encountered were very friendly and courteous. The main tourist sites within the city were only 15 minutes drive away or 12 Ringgit (£2) by taxi.

The hotel is surrounded by shopping malls, shops, restaurants and street food stalls. Nice place. Just suggestion to add more light inside the room, it’s quite uncomfortable for me with vision problems. Also dirty kettle.

I found that the room was not in good condition. The wallpaper is peeled off, and the ambiance was gloomy due to poor lighting. The janitor did not adequately clean the shower cubicle. The toilet's ventilation fan made loud squeaky noises.

Problem with the Internet. Non of the staff is helpful in this sense. Called numerous time with no reply. Even went down to the reception but did not get any help. During check out tried to talk to the duty manager but does not treat customer properly by not attending. Only gave a call after left the place.

Satisfactory but hv a lot of room for improvements

Overall a good and decent hotel even though the rates can be expensive. We stayed on 15th floor and the corridor is stuffy. AC not switched on along the corridor but AC are super cool in the rooms, you can't really adjust the temperature. The hot water in bathroom is so hot and you cant really adjust the temperature down either, so cant complaints about not having hot water or sauna..lol. Location is good, lot of street food stalls, laundry shop nearby and huge Tesco just opposite the hotel. Breakfast buffet is average but dont be so late because they dont really replenish ..not worth paying RM36 per PAX. If you have kids swimming pool need cleaning and maintenance. The pool area on 3rd floor could be very hot and not much shades are offered on this area.

Nice omelet!

The room was too dark, we need more lights. Bed was good enough for sleep. Above all things, the omelet which I ate at breakfast was super nice! One of the best I've ever had in my life, better than other wolrd wide expensive resort hotels.

Hotel quite far away from the main town. Though it’s apparently just three years old hotel, service and housekeeping are poor. No hand towels in the toilet, no hair dryer provided. The room intercom was not working till I requested it to be fixed, the table clock (unusual for a hotel to provide though) was not working, the sheer curtain on the window was torn ! The gym machines was not cleaned as there was a lot of sweat marks of previous users on the same... no water in the gym !! I won’t repeat my stay here for sure !

Ok for a short stay. We took this hotel as a transit from Langkawi. The room is OK but should put effort on the cleanliness.You can hear people talking from outside the room whenever they walked down the hallway. Shower room door didn't work well the floor got messy after taking the shower. Breakfast is OK and it's easy to get dinner nearby.

This is our first time stay in this hotel. However the cleanliness of the room is very disappointing as there are spider web on the lamp and the cabinet. It is also very disgusting as there is remaining water in the water heater kettle. The bed size is big but the hotel put on an additional layer 3 inch thin of mattress on the original king size mattress which causes the bed become too soft. Not sure why they add on the mattress. Overall the breakfast are nice. Please improve the cleanliness and suggest to inspect the cleanliness of the room before the guest check in. Thanks.

The wifi speed is too slow, and signal is also weak keep disconnecting. There is one smell when entering into a room, there should be some automatic room fragrance at least to keep the room smell great. And the water tap for washing hand dont have a proper temperature adjustment, tried to move to left and right but the water still too hot

1) The hotel is over rated, it is between 3 to 4 star and definitely not 5 star.

2) On the day we checked in, we were appalled to notice water supply is light yellow colour, when contacted the duty staff explained that it was due to the area water condition; however we have no such issue when eating at a nearby outlet. After making complain, we noticed quality of water supply became better, i.e. not that yellowish. Isn't that strange?

3) when we went for hi-tea at ground floor, the on-duty staff was looking high and low for the menu and also not sure what can be served.

4) breakfast time you can see many flies accompany the guest.

The aircond vent is facing the wall, the room is warm and stuffy even during night time. The bathroom is huge but when you turn on the shower the water will flow to cover the whole floor in the bathroom. They should have put a glass separation to separate the shower and the whole area of the bathroom. There wasn't even a place to hang your towel! Unbelievable!n Serious design flaws.

Stay away at all cost (Family with 1 kid)

It was a horrible experience. The staff who attended to us looked perplexed and unfamiliar with the check in process. After constantly seeking help from another staff, we were checked in to a room at level 4 after 30 minutes even though I did requested for higher level, was told it's fully occupied, I accepted.

When we got into the room, cleanliness OK. However, the basin tap was trickling and the shower pressure was too weak to deliver an acceptable level of pressure for a proper shower.

Next, the minibar was not working, was promised someone would be sent to fix it. While waiting, some other guests opened our door through their access cards! What? Aren't we supposed to occupy the room already?

Managed to speak to its on duty manager, Erma, apologized and said my check-in earlier was done by a bellboy!! What?! Now that explained the entire check-in process.

While waiting in the room, Erma called to swap another room for us. She swapped us to level 13 (highest level 15), wasn't higher level was full in the first place? Apparently not.

Hoping to have a better room with working conditions, the safe box was not working now. And the temperature of the aircon was not adjustable. (Controller not working). Anyway, thinking that this was better than the previous room, we reluctantly stayed there for 2 nights.

Anyway, this is a hotel to avoid at all cost. Try if you love it's huge lobby. Any other hotels in Alor Star do much better than this.

I like the friendliness of all hotel staff and the cleanliness of the room. But not the ventilation especially at night. There is always strong cigarette smell being blown into the room although it's a non-smoking room on high floor, which caused all of us have sore throats and sick on the next day. I had stayed at this hotel twice and had the same experience (both good & bad).

We stayed in 2 superior room connecting to each other. Rooms are clean and adequate space. Unfortunately during our 1 night stay, pipe water supply was very bad - rusty, cloudy: water looks like \" teh tarik\"!
Lighting are not adequate- entrance light not functioning making it worse. Fridge also not functioning.

Grand Alora Hotel is a very new hotel in Alor Star compare with other existing hotels. Rooms are big, clean and spacious. Hotel lobby is grand and buffet breakfast is served at the ground floor restaurant. Meanwhile, food runs out quickly and replenish time is slow. Overall, very happy to stay at Grand Alora Hotel and will return during next trip
