Seen better days!!

Unfortunately this hotel has seen better days?
I had a pool villa that was good, but seen better days?
The restaurant (only 1 operating now) was basic.
The hotel is a long way from Ubud on a very small and narrow road and did not have a shuttle service to Ubud - thus there are additional charges?
However the highlight was the wonderful Art and antique collection the owner Peter has.

the best was the people, including the owner Peter, who was always there making sure everything was perfect for us.
All in the resort was put together with really good taste and elegance to made a perfect resort in the area.
The view is espectacular and the museum, a truly treasure in the middle of the jungle.

Very friendly staff but not a good location, no view over the valley like they pictures because trees are in the way, no umbrellas or shade by the pool which makes midday use impossible, the shuttle only goes into town not return so you waste money on taxis home every day, and we had no WiFi for 4 out of 6 days despite them promising they would fix it each day. A very nice resort but there’s a reason it’s so cheap

Quiet place - nice views of greenery

Nice view of greenery from the hotel room. Very attentive and friendly staff.Is about 15 min drive to the center of ubud - hotel provides complementary shuttle until 6:00PM. There is stairway from hotel property that leads to the river at the bottom of valley which has stunning views of nature - careful when taking the stairs as they can be slippery when wet. Had issues with the WiFi on couple of days during night/early mornings, but was fixed around 7:30AM after reception opens. Bottom line nice place to stay if you are looking for some quite time away from the city.

UBUD'S BEST KEPT SECRET
As swallows swoop down over the lush Jungle and the bluest of blue Kingfishers dart towards the river, you’ll wish you’d brought binoculars. This resort is one of the few places in Ubud where you have a view over the pristine jungle. It’s a vista that is a spectacular treat, always changing according to the time of day and an absolute tonic to the soul. ‘Tanah Merah’ means red earth, and this resort is for tourist who wants to feel and see more of the authentic Bali. Our villa with it’s two four posters (TV, aircon,) was decorated thoughtfully with well-placed art. In fact anywhere you look, you will see carefully placed objects that are a feast to the eye, not to mention this resort has one of the most significant art collections I have ever seen - the exhibition doesn’t cost a cent to see and is a real insight into priceless Asian Art.
From the art tour guide, the lobby staff, the drivers who take you into central Ubud for free every day, to the smiling breakfast staff nothing was too much trouble. (I also observed the cleaning team preparing an adjacent villa for guests and they were immaculate.) In short, we felt welcomed and at home from the start. An early morning swim in the pool over looking the jungle - pure bliss! I loved this resort!

Hints; Ask for a villa with a view, the restaurant was underwhelming, the steps perhaps unsuited for young children and elderly, if you are after an ultra-modern, uber resort this isn't for you.

Interesting and quirky place

Best word that comes to mind is that place is a 'folly'. Large diverse art collection will not suit everyone's taste but certainly worth the tour. Great views over lush gorge. Huge rooms. Over-priced meals at restaurant charged in $US, but of only average quality. Worth stocking up in town as there are no nearby shops.

A hotel in the middle of nature.

This place was paradise. It is just 10-15 minutes away from the busy Ubud center street, located on a hill-ridge facing Ubud's beautiful raw nature. This place has a very calming vibe. We stayed at a villa with amazing views. The rooms are very cozy with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was very nice as well, with choices of local and western dishes. The pools at this hotel also deserve a mention as they are surrounded by nature. My biggest regret of this hotel was not staying an extra night.

The studio is NOT what is pictured.

I was very disappointed with my visit. The resort was lovely but our room was NOT AT ALL what we booked. I reserved the studio which boasts a balcony, bathtub, and separate living room. You can see the images, it looks amazing. What I got was a basic rectangle room with a bed and two chairs. No balcony, bathtub, or living room. When I complained to the on duty staff and manager they advised me they have 11 studios and not all of them have balconies (only 3 do) and not all have bathtubs (only 8 do), etc. They offered no compensation and I am left outraged that I so grossly overpaid for the room I received. Unfortunately this is the first time I have ever left a bad review. I hope they will update their listing to accurately reflect what they are selling.

This hotel is GORGEOUS! The staff is amazing, very helpful and knowledgeable. The breakfast could have more options but all in all its delicious. Spa and restaurant services are quite pricey compared to the surrounding area. Definitely take the time to see the free art gallery and museum, its been superbly curated. Interacting with the owner is less than desirable but the staff there really make up for it - plus he isnt on site too often.

Quite possibly the most incredible place on earth! Too beautiful to describe, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the art gallery was mind blowing (I even purchased a painting) it was close to town with the free shuttle service and it was set in a jungle, natural paradise.

The studio room was incredible. Huge and gorgeous. Two four poster beds and the copper bath was fit for Cleopatra. The breakfast was decadent and delicious. We didn't eat at the restaurant as it was too expensive. It was a 4km scooter ride to Ubud on a good road. Highly recommended for the value.

Sorry, but it is average (in my opinion).

I did not know that the property is actually quite far from Ubud Center. But, it is fine, however, the food price in their restaurant is too pricey.
Overall, the hotel is average, The best thing is that the view is amazing.
The room that I had was very hot, it took quite awhile to cool it down. We have to wait till quite late night. The room is very spacious though.
We are not recommending for going out late evening, as the mosquitos are very bad there. Also, I found cockroach in my toilet. haha..
The room is quite dark.., but it is fine.. The staff are friendly.

Very nice hotel. Big room, nice bathroom with big bath. Breakfast was very good. Pool was nice. Convenient parking. Only problem was really poor wifi. Dinner prices were also a bit on the high end, hence we opted to have a dinner outside. Other than that - really nice place!

If you want to get away from all the other tourists this resort does the job. You will feel in the middle of nowhere with all the luxury within reach. Very nice hide-out for anyone looking for privacy and not looking for the internet (only thing terrible I could find). Especially impressed by the staff, nicest people ever!

Very nice place to stay next to Ubud in the middle of paddy fields. One of the car of the hotel can give give you a lift for free to the center of Ubud whenever you want (until 5pm and only this way, you have to take a cab to come back)
The studio is big with a nice bathroom and a little terrasse.
2 swimming pools with a great lookout of the jungle, a river is running down the hotel. The breakfast is the best we had had in many hotels in Bali. The restaurant is good as well but in US dollars. There is no place to eat closed to the hotel even with a bicycle (also free)

Breathtaking Hotel

The resort exceeded our expectations - the rooms are huge, the beds are comfy, the views are gorgeous, and the hotel staff is amazing.

There aren't too many rooms/villas, so it's very quiet.

The only issue for some may be the locations - it's removed from the Ubud city center, but the hotel has a free shuttle (one way) into town, that's about a 10 min drive.

Wonderful Stay, Staff were very friendly & helpful

Tanah Merah Resort is a place I would love to return to. The resort itself is set in a beautiful location so much so that we don't feel the need to venture out. There is so much to see inside the premises itself. The manager & staff were super friendly and always helpful. The food was just okay. The resort is also easily accessible and is set in a beautiful part of Ubud. Ideal stay for families with kids. Kudos to the wonderful staff :)

Nice hotel for what you choose

Gives you an authentic feel of living in a forest resort. Being located in a naturally scenic location, the resort was full of mosquitoes, lizards and insects. As there isn't much in the surrounding (walking distance) had to mostly rely on the food provided by the hotel / resort.

Nice, comfortable, quiet getaway

Stayed here for a couple of nights on my way back to the US from Timor-Leste and really enjoyed it. You stay in your own little cottage, which is really quiet, clean, and well-maintained, and shows off a lot of local arts in the decoration and furniture. The only real downside is that the place is a bit far from Ubud town center (maybe a 10-15 min drive), but the hotel provides a shuttle service into town, and it's an easy (usually 70K rupiah / 7 USD) cab ride back in the evenings. This can really be a positive as well, as the place has some really beautiful jungle views and feels more like a retreat up in the hills than an urban destination. The staff are all really friendly and helpful, and while I didn't get to try the restaurant for lunch or dinner, the breakfasts are awesome (and complimentary). Would highly recommend.

My wife and I loved the Tanah Merah Resort and Gallery. Very beautiful resort with gorgeous bedrooms and natural surroundings. Awesome location, great service, friendly staff, clean and very comfortable rooms. The museum and gallary were amazing and worth checking out if you are there. This exceeded our expectations. Your personal heaven

Hotel is situated near to a river gorge... With 2 pools facing tall beautiful rain forest. Rooms are big and spacious. Ours was bintang villa 1 which had a private pool(clean) with nice loung chairs besides it.
You can hire a private taxi from airport, he will charge you 300,000 rp. The resort food is very tasty. Overall my experience is 4.8/5.

Tanah Merah near Ubud

This is a wonderful place to relax, learn about local culture, eat and enjoy art. Staff are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and looked after typically twice (!) a day! The (almost) private swimming pools are pristine (there are two on site). The breakfast is plentiful and very good. The restaurant offers a wide range of meals, including american, european and tasty Indonesian too. Staff is fantastic. Always helpful, smiling and they speak good English too! Peter, the owner is an amazing retired dentist, historian, eco-traveller and a wonderful person to chat with about local culture. I particularly loved the hardwood carvings everywhere in the resort (from Java and Bali). Don't miss the tours around Ubud, including Mt. Batur! Tanah Merah offers FREE shuttle to Ubud, this is a nice feature too. It takes only 10 mins. Overall FANTASTIC! Thanks, Paul

Ubud gem

Tanah Merah isn't just a hotel, it is an experience that will stay with you. It is on the edge of ubud amongst the rice fields, perched over a steep 'jungle valley' giving some great views from the pool and breakfast area. The distance to the centre of Ubud is not a problem as the hotel will drop you there any time and the taxi back is cheap. The rooms are fantastic, huge and beautifully furnished. Peter, the Danish owner, is a collector of art and antiquities, particularly from China and Indonesia, with two large galleries that staff will show you on request - better than any of the museums in Ubud! Great value for money and if we return to Bali we will stay here again.

A peaceful sanctuary

My wife and I loved our 3 night stay, up in the hills and away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of the district. The studio room was spacious and well equipped and the facilities, particularly the pools, restaurant and breakfast areas were located in idyllic settings. A real feature of the resort is the museum. It displays the owner's very impressive and extensive collection of historical artefacts. The museum has a number of rooms, each with a historical or cultural theme.

It's ok

The location is a bit far from the Ubud centre, so it's difficult to get around for shopping and eating, but you will get better scenery. The studio we stayed was huge with two queen size beds, very comfortable, great for family with kids. But the soundproofing of the room was quite bad, we could easily hear next door's noise. The main restaurant was pricey and smelly, forced us to take the drive to the Ubud centre to have dinner. Overall, the hotel room has local Balinese character but I would try another hotel if I come back again.

Could have been a great stay, the hotel pool is beautiful and you have a good view of the surrounding jungle from pretty much anywhere in the hotel ... The rooms are average and the prices for the laundry and the restaurant especially are ridiculously high for Bali which is a shame when the hotel is so far away from the center ... the staff is very nice and helpful same as anywhere on the island ...

We booked a studio room which blew us away on arrival - it was huge - seriously pimping!

The resort was very quiet and the staff were awesome. There was a bit of construction going on but nothing too intrusive.

We found it to be very efficient service. The staff were always willing to help, and we thought they looked out for our best interest.

Breakfast was great, I'm dreaming of the fresh lime juice as I write and the free shuttle service into Ubud was perfect.

We were given a free upgrade for the last two nights, and although this was great it was smaller than our original room. However it came with fantastic views over the valley - very pleasant to wake up to and watch the moon sink away.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel and we are very pleased with their staff and services. Location is a bit off from Ubud center, but hotel offers free shuttle service to town.
Hotel offers a 1-day tour to local attraction. The tour was our best experience. The driver was very kind and friendly. He prepared the sarong for us in advance, so that we did not have to purchase when visited the temples.
We had a Studio room which was a huge room, hence 1 A/C is not enough to cool the entire room. When we called, they gave us an extra fan, and problem solved.

Fantastic Experience

Set in a stunning location overlooking a ravine. All the individual cottages are very interesting and comfortable. Good service, nice breakfast, excellent service. Quiet and peaceful with excellent infinity swimming pool. Staff will drive you into Ubud at any time. Truly recommend. Not suitable for people with agility problems.

I always enjoy Ubud, this trip just my wife and I, a break from work and my 1st stay at this hotel.

Staff were very polite and concerned about your stay with them, so much so that we ended up with an upgrade from Studio to Bintang cottage with its own private pool.

Peter the owner is a gracious host, and the museum under the carpark is a must see, quite an amazing collection of Balinese history.

Breakfast every morning was good, portion size always too big for me though.. :)

Free transfer into Ubud anytime during office hours was an added bonus. Don't forget to bring US $ if you want to buy off room service or eat at the restaurant, something I did not realise until I arrived.

Wifi was slow, but hey it always is in the hills...at least it was there! Lovely time had here, will visit again.

Visit to Tanah Merah Hotel

Wonderful hotel on first impressions, staff very helpful and pleasant. We were in a Studio which was large and well furnished. Bathroom clean and room was well cleaned daily. However the Studios were situated next door to another property from which emanated very offensive odours ,there was also rubbish visible all over the neighbouring property. As Tanah Merah is about 8-10 km out of Ubud we chose to eat at the Resort for the first few days of our stay so we could rest. Unfortunately the menu at the one restaurant open for lunch and dinner was very plain and limited. The breakfast dining was pleasant. The pools were clean, attractive and in a great setting. The bar offered a very limited selection. Although the resort advertised as a resort and spa we had the massage we booked in an open cabana on view of guests at the pool and from the decks of their rooms. The Gallery and Museum were wonderful and worth a stay just to see them. As this was our first stay in Bali we were a little disappointed. However I was told by friends not to expect western standards .

Paradise up in the Hills

Place was amazing,like being in paradise.Had the cottage in front of the infinity pool & was like having our own private pool.Staff went out of their way. Ayar who served us everyday at breakfast was outstanding & wasn't at all fazed by us Aussies that kept asking for countless cups of tea & coffee, & countless dishes of tomato ketchup to go with our superb breakfast every day. Restaurant was also superb & I had one of the best steaks that I've ever had because they use Bali beef & a lot of resorts for some reason don't. Peter, the owner is a great guy & extremely interesting to talk to. He is a qualified dentist & his house is on the property & one morning on the way to breakfast we witnessed him operating on a patient on the day bed on his front porch! He designed & built the place 17 years ago & it's all done in traditional Balinese style. Then there is his amazing,priceless Asian collections of antiques & paintings in his galleries & museum.There are a lot of steep steps which wouldn't suit the elderly,infirm or young children & some people may be put off by the tropical noises of frogs, insects & even weirder sounding creatures at night including what sounded like an alien creature or weird kind of animal straight out of Jurassic Park, which seemed to actually be in our room, although we never could track it down. However, we absolutely loved the sounds at night & it lulled us to a very good night's sleep every night in the extremely comfortable bed.

레스토랑 음식값이 전체적으로 비싼편이었습니다
그리고 주변 교통편이 너무 안좋아요ㅜㅜ

very bad

no hot water,aircon not working,food was disdusting,bad smell in bathroom,powercut long time,breakfast was a joke,very little water coming from cold shower,everything was in usd and exepensive,i would not rekommed this to anyone!booked two nights,stayed only one!!!!

Établissement vieillissant et peu nettoyé. On a l'impression qu'il est laissé à l'abandon.
Mais le concept des villa et la jungle environnante lui donne un bon point.

Fuori da ubud quindi lontano dal traffico.si raggiunge in 10minuti in auto c'è servizio gratuito di shuttle bus dall'hotel al centro di ubud.colazione abbondante e bellissima location e staff gentile. La Camera Deluxe non soddisfa le aspettative ci si aspettava di meglio. Si può scegliere tra 5 tipi di colazione diversi ma se si chiede una fetta di pane che è inclusa solo in un tipo di menù ti viene negata!!! E purtroppo il WiFi non funziona per nulla bene per diverse ore al giorno

Resort typiquement balinais, le personnel est extrêmement gentil et serviable. Au calme à l'écart du centre d’ubud mais il y a un shuttle à disposition. Je recommande vivement pour les amoureux de la nature.

Gran hotel en un entorno extraordinario, rodeado de naturaleza, cuenta con 3 pequeñas piscinas, dos de ellas infinitas. Las habitaciones son enormes y el pesonal encantador y muy servicial. Muy buena idea el servicio gratuito de shuttle al centro de Ubud.
La habitación era algo vieja y descuidada y le faltaba una limpieza más exhaustiva.
La restauración es muy mejorable. Comida cara y escueta. Se agradecía más variedad y calidad en los platos.

Hôtel très agréable en pleine nature, dépaysement garanti, attention voiture obligatoire!! Loin du centre ville d’Ubud et pas de transport en commun.
La chambre ne correspondait pas au descriptif: 40 mètres carrés à peine contre les 82 mètres carrés annoncés, et pas de machine à laver ni de sèche linge dans la chambre et pas de rideaux occultants comme écrit dans l’annonce.
Service de lingerie payant uniquement
Reste malgré tout un très bon hôtel pour se reposer, piscines très agréables et personnel serviable.
