The room was very neglegeted. Was not clean. Felt like a dark room were we had to have lights on. Bedding was absolute disgusting and dirty. Its was like they came out of a dump master. We had to go and buy pillows the next day. The mattress was all torn and stained and not even a mattress protector was on. carpet in the bedroom was filthy and tacky. Tried calling property management twice. as we arrived late Friday night. No answer. Only half a roller of toilet paper was supplied, no body wash, so I had to buy that too. I have stayed twice before, no problem. This place is so run down now. No where to even get up in the morning and sit to have breakfast or coffee at the cafe as that is closed. Sauna out of order. Pools run down. The lap pool and the one next to that was in decent condition Apartment was so depressing, we would leave in the morning and come back at night. Absolutely not a resort vibe. originally told they were moving us into a different apartment cause of a problem and into one upstairs only we were in the down stairs on. This was a couple days before arriving. We were in apartment 1306. Place looked like it was cleaned with a dirty rag. Mirrors and windows. I could write clean me in the grime. Didn't bother cooking anything. 3 knifes all as blunt as a door nail. All I can say, 1 you definitely need a car and 2 thank god the weather great so we could leave.

We stayed in Morris #517. This is an excellent well appointed, clean and remodeled unit. Some of the common areas have not been as well maintained, and a number of areas are currently being worked on. This is a mix of long term rentals, residents and short term holiday units. The local by the Cultural district is unparalleled in Cairns and makes this a great choice for active folks. the airplanes do land/take off nearby, so if that would be a bother to you please be sure to consider. For us, no worries.

Amazing resort with 3 swimming pools , beautiful flora around ! Also , there is great Thai restaurant on side with very special deserts! Convenient parking.
Communication was tricky because office is opened on week days until 5 snd closed on weekends and no one was picking up the phone or responded to property e mail . It is an older propery but maintained very well

We arrived 10 minutes early and were told to come back at check in time. We came back at the check in time and was given the keys but were told that the supervisor had not inspected the property and were asked to wait a further 15 minutes, which we didn’t. The supervisor allowed herself into the apartment 30 minutes after check in to inspect the property. The property was very dated and needs some maintenance. Arrival info stated apartment had to be left tidy however couldn’t vacuum rooms as no vacuum, found the vacuum box empty.

Room wasn't ready for check in. Was told it would be half hour, cleaners didn't get there to start till half hour later. Didnt get any compensation from hotel. Pools were run down, parts of the resort were abandoned. Very noisy at night from people in pool.

When we arrived we think wow nice place. Pool was nice.
But day after we felt not resort more like residency place..
So many cars parked around the bilding and car park was really tight.
The breakfast was really tasty but only one person run the shop and our last day morning
he was sick so we couldnt get.and we didn't konw until we got there.No one let us knew shop was closed. It was a bid sad. But we can get refund is good ..

Overall room was nice,location is nice. Receptionist was nice.
It was good experience.

Needing a little attention to detail the ground floor apartment. Strange hidden ( main) bathroom .. so hidden it wasn't found by cleaners ...we found un cleaned .. towels strewn on floor etc. Get rid of that lounge room door that hides it. Basic lounge furniture .. often the case. The apartment opposite second floor ? we went through a \" host\" - we stayed last time - $50 more per night but it was really lovely. Anyway for $250 it was functional and looked out onto the lovely pool and spacious .. what we needed with visiting family that live in Trinity Beach. Also close to township and airport.

A huge disappointment to return to this resort and find it so changed. More like social housing than a 5 star resort.
Noisy, dogs everywhere, limited reception hours and help available, bar and restaurant in resort not open, the best thing about it is the Thai restaurant by reception.

Although our room was great, 1 roll of toilet paper for two adults for 5 days was tight and no office over weekends, we had to buy our own. My family stayed in various rooms throughout the resort and their rooms were really dated and not very good.

My quick search on internet found first 6 plumbing companies in Cairns has a 24/7 call out service

Then after asking again on Monday was told sorry couldn't get a plumber today as well

The Lakes Resort had very mixed reviews so we were somewhat hesitant...but we needn't have been. Everything was excellent!
We booked a 2 bed deluxe unit which was clean and spacious and in good condition. We loved the numerous pool areas and enjoyed the bbq area, tennis court and bocce. Onsite cafe and restaurant open daily and the staff were lovely.
An easy 8-10 minute walk to the main road for buses into town. We loved it, would definitely stay again.

Horrible, not a Hotel, this is a gated community

This is not a HOTEL. The reception is only open limited hours during the week and closed during weekends. Check-in is not a problem as they leave your keys and map in a lockbox outside the main door, but if you need anything there is no one you can talk to. The big red button outside the main door (suggested for after hours call) doesn't haver a real service active. it just points you to a number in your receipt? there are other numbers stuck outside the main door, but they do not answer. After checking out on a Sunday morning, I needed to store my luggage a few hours before my flight, I had to make multiple international calls trying to reach someone without success. eventually, I was lucky to spot the manager walking inside the hall, from the outside. He gladly accepted to take my bag. He even gave me his number to text or call him and we agreed upon a time for me to retrieve my bag, he told me he was going home but he would come back when I texted him. When I reached out during the day he didn't answer for over 30 minutes. Eventually I was able again to spot someone walking inside but they could not open the main door from the inside, Luckly the manager answered their phone calls and they gave me my bag. In the meantime other guests needed to check in but they forgot to put the keys inside the lockbox outside. All of This was on a Sunday before 2pm. These are services you normally expect from a Hotel with a reception.

The property was great, and very well maintained. We had opted to stay in an apartment with a kitchen as we were travelling with children. Our back door led to a shallow pool perfect for the little ones, and the rooms were big and clean. Pillows were not great but you expect that from hotels, but staying at a place specifically with a kitchen, you'd expect more than a single serve small pot and half size fry pan to cook with. Despite having a full kitchen it was half stocked with utensils, a bit of a pain.

We spent 4 nights at the Lakes resort Cairns. The resort overall is beautiful and the 4 pools are very nicely done. It is also conveniently located between the airport and the main Cairns city.

In terms of the apartment, the size is quite appropriate and the amenities are all in place and good working condition. However, we did notice a lack of cleanliness with cob webs handing from the ceilings. The security case had a manual key which we had to collect from reception the next day. And the key didnt work. We would expect to see an electronic case in most such places now.

The reception timings are quite difficult 8am to 5.30pm (but probably this is the case for all resorts in Cairns). For those on a holiday, by the time your activity finishes, there is no one at the reception to help out. They do have a 24 hr call center but its hardly of any help. For eg, someone parked his car at my allocated space and I complained to the call center but not much luck. Also the reception is closed over the weekend which is quite a hassle if you are checking in anytime between Friday evening to Sunday evening.

Overall we had a good time, but we do believe certain advancements in the apartments and overall processes would definitely go a long way in realising the full potential of this beautiful property.

This property was different to the the hotel or resort suggested by it's name. It is more like a large complex of apartments with mostly permanent residents. It is also located about 4km away from the centre of Cairns. So technically North Cairns.
Which is rather inconvenient unless you hire a car or are happy to pay for a lot of ubers.
We arrived and were not able to enter the foyer as no one was there until we called the out of hours emergency number and a helpful young man who assisted us and allowed us to store our bags. He also was particularly helpful upon our check out allowing us to store our luggage until our evening flight some 8 hours after check out. Other staff we spoke to on the intercom were particularly unhelpful. There never really seemed to be anyone at the main desk in the lobby.
Using Covid as an excuse to not have staff checking people in or responding to guest enquires is ridiculous particularly in a state that is not enforcing mask wearing. We were told that they don't have staff on seven days a week. In which case provide that information before someone books.
The hotel is dated. Our room had leaking taps, flickering lights etc.
The sauna was out of order and one pool we visited is in desperate need of improvement there is even a petition by the residents for this.
The best part was the restaurant the thai food was incredible.
However I think the hotel needs to be realistic about their offering as we did not get what we paid for. Substandard.

A grand dame.. in desperate need of a make-over. I’ve stayed at the lakes a few times and always found it clean and tidy… but standards have dropped. Oily floors, spartan furnishings with chips, breaks and cracks. It’s serviceable but quite a poor showing.

Minimalistic resort with very poor WiFi

The resort is located away from the busy city center, in a complex with many other apartment blocks. Our GF 2BR unit has direct access to the swimming pool. The unit has the basics we need for a few days stay. Getting into the carpark was a bit of a challenge, as it quite tight and the leak from the ceiling stained the rental car. Hope I won't get charged for it. We stayed in the unit during a rainy day, wished there is table tennis or pool table on-site. The unit, and the entire resort has very poor WiFi.

Pros: Spacious 2 bedroom unit with amazing pool facilities close to airport and a quick Uber ride from cairns. Thai restaurant on site was amazing.

Cons: apartment needs a deep clean..air con vents were disgusting, some maintenance and new furniture (tables were stabilised by napkins). Reception arent open on weekends or after 5. Gym and sauna were broken.

Huge gated community of mostly owner occupied units with a few holiday lets. We enjoyed our stay here for the price paid but it could have been so much better with just a few changes.

However, our apartment didn't appear to have been cleaned properly - there were empty chip packets on the living room floor and empty toothpaste in the bathroom. Sand flies Sand flies Midges Midges(apparently Midges are also a type of sand fly but worse). People have to note that The Lakes Resort is next to swamp land thus YOU may get bitten by the Sand Flies and destroy YOUR skin with the most intense itch EVER. I picked up mine next to swimming pool. BUYER BEWARE.

We stayed in a penthouse apartment, this had a huge balconey and we had a view to the mountains. the manager was super helpful. The beds were comfy amd the apartment had a good layout. Planes do come close (the kids loved watching them) but we were not bothered by them. We had stayed at a property close by but further from the airport and the noise was worse at the other propery. It's showing it's age a little but is good for the price. Noise from the backpackers was only noticable in the early evening, I thinkg they have an outside bar with music at dinner time - no all night raging. Would stay here again.

If you want to stay away from the centre of town this is the place to stay. It's got a lot of pools to swim in, a nice little thai restaurant . The botanical gardens next door.

Beautiful property and accommodations, even nicer than the photos. We loved the Taste of Thai restaurant on the premises. The breakfasts were superb every day, and dinners were amazing. Service was personalized, the menu with a great variety of choices, and the presentation was excellent. Highly recommend!

Toilet paper is not included! Which in one way is funny as an indicator of the company's approach to customers. It was explained to me, nicely, that toilet paper is not included as its an apartment. I replied that the wotif booking is per night and has no info about BYO basics like toilet paper. So the staff did 'give' me a replacement roll but usually people have to buy it!
Also two of the stove top burners didn't work, the light or exhaust fan is not working for the stove, bulbs are missing in light fixtures and the toilet cystern runs constantly. Taking the top off the toilet, the water level mechanism could be sorted manually but seriously, who wants to do that. Its a residential apartment block and not at all focused on travelers' accom

This was an excellent location for a family holiday in Cairns. We (6 adults and 5 kids) had 2 apartments in close proximity to each other. With one of the 4 pools and barbecue area outside our doors, it was a beautiful spot to come back to cool off after a day of exploring Cairns and surrounds. Also a wonderful resort facility to spend a relaxation day that included a walk through the amazing botanical gardens nearby.
Thanks to the kind staff who organized great spots for our large family group and helped with booking tours etc.

Good family resort - WiFi great too

Overall an enjoyable stay. Pools were great. There was an issue with midge bites in the complex. Queen bed would have been good for a more comfortable nights sleep. Newly installed WiFi worked very well

Café and Restaurant

The staff are young people from overseas wo are not trained in hospitality. They were friendly and polite but had no clue. No issue with them - bit the owners has to train his staff - I will stay at the Lakes again but I will not use their café.

A week in Cairns

Great spacious apartment, towels and linen were luxurious. Very clean and tidy and décor was nice. Undercover parking space was a bonus and made getting around with a hire car easy. Accommodation seemed a mix of permanent and holiday rental which meant complex was not overly busy. Pools were amazing, although didn't appear to be solar heated as chilly. Use of tennis court was a great addition with kids.

Beautiful, relaxing and clean

Our stay at The Lakes was wonderful and we will definitely be back to stay again. Our suite was very large and clean and the pool just outside our patio door was awesome. The location was very good for getting around the city. The staff at the office were so friendly and helpful, we really appreciated them. We look forward to a return visit.
