During my 3 days stay I was unfortunately faced with MANY issues. This place deserves to be shut down. Upon my arrival I was greeted with a front desk clerk that seemed nice and friendly. As we got to our room, it was a decent hour around 4 pm or so. I was greeted with a room that had a foul stench that smell almost reminiscent of underarms and perfume. I tried to not be to picky as that seemed to be the extent of the issues and otherwise seems clean. I went to the balcony to enjoy my view for a bit, which had a previous guests ash tray cup sitting on the ledge which as you can imagine is utterly disusting, while going to call the front desk to notify them of the issues, we were placed on a brief hold in which the sink had now stopped up and of course when we went to pull the drain....the entire drain stick came out. So the sink was now filled with water with no way to drain. After getting off of hold, I informed the front desk clerk of my issues requesting to be moved since we had only been in the room for about 30 minutes with several issues and she said the only thing that she could do was send maintenance up which could take anywhere between 15 min to 2 hours. As you can imagine this took up the majority of my 1st day. The issues never got better from here, from no ice in the entire building all weekend to the pool damn near hot and falling apart, the clerk's niceness and customer service went out the window as did much of my patience. Definitely not the Marriott standard

This property is nice, but shows a bit of age. Great location on the waterfront, friendly staff. The room was clean except for an unfortunate stain on the couch. The public areas such as elevators and stairwells needed some cleaning. The pool is very nice. Easy walk to the restaurants in the historic downtown.

This hotel and it's staff were very helpful to my wife and I during a very difficult time. Booked this hotel during my mother's funeral and they went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. 3 days straight our flights back to Rhode Island was canceled due to lack of an itinerary and all 3 times they accommodated our stay on a moments notice. Not only did we have to rebook the room, we had to rebook our rental as well. We became so well known to staff that it felt as though we knew them personally. Thank you all for making my wife and I stay as comfortable as possible. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay, to celebrate my mother's homegoing.. you guys are the best. Highly recommended..

Aside from being a convenient walk to town, it needs more care and meet the price that they are asking. this is the 3rd time we have stayed there and each time is a different type of disappointment. most likely will not stay there again.

Arrived at 2 and was informed that the room would be ready at 3, which fine because that was check-in time. Came back at 3 and room was not ready. Was told that the room would be ready in 30 minutes, that they were working on it now, so we came back at 330. The room was not ready but would be ready shortly. We hung around and checked every 10-15 minutes and kept being told soon. We decided to take a walk around and got a call 4:04 that the room was ready. The clerk kept apologizing but if we had known at 2 that the rooms wouldn’t be ready we would’ve toured around instead of waiting around. I’m very disappointed for the time that was wasted. I’m glad that the room was nice when we finally got checked in.

Overall the stay was good! Unfortunately, the pool was not open, pool operating times are not posted on their website. We brought bathing suits and were disappointed to learn it was unavailable. There weren't enough towels, we had to keep asking for more towels, housekeeping cleans every other day. The building is old and could use decor updates. Rooms were clean, however bugs were found in the bathroom, no one rushed to clean it up when it was reported. AC unit was very loud and difficult to sleep with. On the flip side, staff was very friendly, breakfast was good and the fitness room was ok. The hotel is located in walking distance to the downtown area which was a plus for us.

Nice property with a beautiful balcony view. Friendly staff. However, walking in from parking lot there is a walkway between the pillars that is not lighted. Can rub color blends in the darkness! Curb was 4 inches above. Caught toe and face planted on the sidewalk!! Curb should have been painted yellow to expose the rise of the curb. It was extremely lucky that I wasn’t hurt much worse

We stayed for only one night- family of four- and had a very nice experience. The parking was super easy, check in was simple, and there were lots of amenities at the hotel. I especially enjoyed sitting out by the pool with my family in the evening overlooking the sound. It was super relaxing and peaceful. Also all shops and restaurants of downtown New Bern are within easy walking distance. Great stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in New Bern and booked a king room with balcony. The views were very nice. The room itself was large but the AC was leaking and the carpet was wet in the room and leaked onto the patio outside. The AC was not very cold either but kept the room decent. The room itself was overall clean and nice. The staff were very accommodating and nice during check in and out making the process easy.

I booked this place hoping for a *beary* relaxing getaway, but instead I got a real grizzly experience. The moment I walked in, I was hit with a musty stench trying (and failing) to hibernate under layers of synthetic fragrance. It didn’t mask the smell—it just made my nose bear arms.

The bathroom was *a total bear trap*. Hair in the shower, grime in the corners—definitely not the den I was expecting to freshen up in. I bear-ly made it through.

As for the bed? Let’s just say I had a *fitted-sheet fiasco*. The sheets were not just inside out (talk about polar opposites of care), but the fitted sheet kept slipping off, baring the mattress every time I rolled over. Cozy? Not by a fur stretch.

Honestly, I expected a bit more polish and care, but this stay left me clawing for comfort. Would I return? Not in a million bear hibernation cycles.

So disappointing! Wonderful location, balcony with water views and lovely bed linens. Dirty room!!! Bathroom floor very dirty by toilet…yuck. Frank dirt on ottoman and sofa making them unusable. Shower liner didn’t reach tub, so water got on floor, only one bath mat and no refreshed linens, except by request and then available only by pickup at desk.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Everything else is average or below average in terms of cleanliness and service.

They don’t provide room service but every three days, which this time was fine for us considering we were on a road trip and it was a one night stay, but I couldn’t imagine being a family or stuck in there for three days with no actual service.
The sinks were super low. When my husband first said something about it, I thought it was because he’s 6’2” but I’m 5’3” and was hunched over that low sink (wasn’t an accessible room). It was just very low, low toilet, very little water pressure (had to turn around three times to get wet in the shower, and forget washing shampoo out of your hair).

It seems like a hotel that has had a lot of cleaning & maintenance shortcuts and cutbacks.

If Location is a thing that matters to you then you can probably tolerate it for a short period because it is beside a beautiful lake park and in the heart of history with a lot of things you can walk to. Otherwise, find alternatives.

Visiting New Bern, NC

The location and setting of this hotel is picture perfect. It's right on the water and within walking distance of historical sites and downtown restaurants. Some of the more expensive rooms have balconies overlooking the river. We just had a partial river view, and no balcony, but it was lovely. The one complaint I have is the hvac was a little loud and just below our second floor room.

Don't book for the restaurant

First thing they touted was the bar and bistro.. I go out for several meetings and come back for dinner only to find that due to staff and a slow night they closed early.. And by early I mean 750pm.... So i had to go back out.

THEN they touted their wonderful breakfast, and I go down there at 915 AM and they had closed up breakfast, had no coffee, and basically were like \"yeah sorry\".

Maybe the best location in New Bern. Very new, not at all beat up, comfortable beds and pillows. We ate one night at the bistro, which was better than average. Housekeeping is every other day. So if you are staying more than one night, you will need to ask for additional pods of coffee for the next morning. No complaints at all. I
