Booked overnight stay due to late evening flight into Bergamo. Hotel booked private taxi transfer which was much cheaper, about 10 min drive to Citta Alta. Hotel reception is up a steep set of steps, very friendly staff, lift up to room. Good sized room, good air con. Very low beds but comfortable & very clean. Good bathroom. Very quiet. 1 min walk to large square with lots of bars & restaurants. Super buffet breakfast. Were able to store luggage while we explored Citta Alta which is so beautiful, cobbled streets, gorgeous buildings and shops. Fabulous views over Bergamo, took the funicular further up to castle, and spent hours in restaurant enjoying the views. Definitely recommend and would return again.

Only two items I can think of where the hotel could improve: 1- the air conditioning system in the rooms is not particularly user friendly, so one may end up feeling either too cold or too warm; 2- as the hotel seems to be family run, the same person who looks after breakfast is supposed to help customers check out, which clearly is an issue if somebody is in a serious hurry. If so, I'd suggest customers to clearly state at what time they need to leave the following day and if they need a cab, or else they might not enjoy their breakfast the next day.

We stayed for two nights at the Hotel Piazza Vecchia.
It is ideally located right next to Bergamo old square, in the Main Street that is great for walking.
We particularly enjoyed the large bathroom in our bedroom. The service was both attentive and competent.
The free and flavorful breakfast was also a plus.

The hotel is in the best location, Citta Alta. It could be a bit noisy, especially if you take a room with a view of the street. It is good to remember that when booking. The hotel is nicely maintained and clean, with free of charge water in the room and a good selection of food for breakfast. we enjoyed our stay.

We had room #4 which the shower and bathroom area had severe flood problem when we showered. They didn’t accept to change our room and since we had made two reservations before, last night we had room #12 which was wonderful . Good shower, away from the alley and resturant noise with mountain/city view. Location was great in the heart of the little city center area.

Great hotel in the heart of Bergamo's old town. Excellent choice if you want to be minutes away from bars, restaurants and the cities medieval sites. Despite its location, the room was quiet and comfortable. There is a flight of stairs to reception then lift access to other floors. Room was spacious, stylish and well appointed. Bathroom was excellent with loads of room. Staff were very helpful and assisted in any way they could. I would definitely recommend if you want to experience the best of Bergamo.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Piazza Vecchia, a small boutique hotel right in the centre of Bergamo. The building has been renovated beautifully with traditional features and decor but also with modern conveniences. We booked a room with a mountain view which had the advantage of being quiet despite the hotel being located in a busy area. The staff were so friendly and helpful in every respect, from providing information about the local area to booking transfers from and to the airport. Breakfast was very good with a good variety of fresh fruit and pastries as well as cold meats and cheese. Then, we were spoilt for choice with the number of restaurants nearby. All in all, I cannot fault this hotel and would highly recommend a stay there.

Difficult to access as there are few cabs no Ubers and inconvenient busses. The rooms, though spacious, are spare and somewhat shabby and the lighting is poor. The staff were wonderful though.

The hotel was in a fantastic location in Citta Alta. Our check-in was easy. Rooms were lovely, spacious, modern and spotless. Breakfast was lovely - continental breakfast with a good selection of fruit, yogurts, cheese, bread and pastry as well as hot drinks.

The hotel and the staff were lovely! Parking (lack of) is an issue, as is dropping off your luggage (if you have a big suitcase). Neither of these are easy, especially during busy periods.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel once we got there. HOWEVER finding the entrance door to the hotel was a nightmare and you MUST put a photo of the door and its location on this Expedia site.

The weekend weather was fantastic, 13 deg with clear blue skies! Hotel is situated on the main, cobbled, pedestrian street but well insulated to prevent noise. Welcome was great and receptionist greeting very pleasant. Room was larger than average for Italy with plenty of storage space and a fab bathroom/shower. Breakfast was excellent also, needed to reserve a time slot to suit you due to COVID but quality was good. Overall great stay and will return!

Wonderful Piazza Vecchia hotel in Bergamo
This is a fabulous boutique hotel which dates back to 1300. You can see real history in parts of the hotel. The cleanliness is perfect and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast is taken on a lovely outside terrace or inside the cosy breakfast room. Food is fresh and ideal to start your day. Highly recommend it for a city break. It’s location can’t be beaten.

Amazing hotel, location was perfection. We decided to take a taxi from the train station....was none to be found. We ended up taking the bus which was right across the street from the train station. That worked out even better but finding the hotel was a challenge but that is always half the fun. They need to state the hotel is located across from Da Franco, restaurant.

The location of this hotel could not be better for sightseeing and walking the high city and that is the cause of the first issue, getting there. Do not drive, eventhough the hotel will reserve you a garage parking spot not very far away. The Hotel is located in a traffic restricted zone. You have to drive on tiny streets packed with people at 2 mph. and no one wants to get out of your way. We drive all over Italy and it was tense for us. Taxis generally will not go into the high city on weekends or during the high vacation season due to this problem and if they do, it is very expensive. The other option is to take the cable car from the lower city and then push your bags to the hotel.
Once you get to the hotel, there is not a porter or bellman to help you get your bags up a very steep 17 steps to the front desk or to your room. This is a \"4\" star hotel so this was quite disappointing (we are not as young as we used to be). BTW, the only way you know you are at the hotel is a small sign hanging over the door. It is very hard to see so look for the Pizzeria Da Franco and the hotel is right across the street.

Surprising Bergamo
Situated on the main Piazza in the old town, this hotel is the perfect location to explore Bergamo. The hotel is a little difficult to find as entry is via a doorway off one of the narrow and very quaint streets. We arrived by car which is a always challenging in these old cities but the staff very quickly guided us to the secure parking facility. We had a superior room which was very spacious with old world charm but a surprisingly modern bathroom. The bed was comfortable but a little too short for my 6 foot husband. That aside the room was quiet and private. A very nice continental breakfast was included in our room rate and available from 7:30 which suited our early departure. Bergamo was the last stop in our 2 week driving tour of Italy and was a beautiful place to sit and reflect on our adventures. I would definitely recommend Bergamo as a short stay destination and the Hotel Piazza Vecchia for its location and helpful staff.

This was a gem of a hotel. Beautiful, welcoming, artful, peaceful, I really loved everything about it. Perfectly situated and obviously well managed they made my stay in Bergamo perfect. Do not have enough nice things to say about the place. It really is a lovely, wonderful hotel. Was definitely my favourite of all the places I stayed in in Lombardy.

Bergamo is a hidden jewel. The Alta/Old City is the place to say... and this hotel is in its heart! Only downside was the male (we think owner) who came off a bit grumpy. Maybe it was my inability to speak Italian and his limited English.

Located on a pretty street, especially at this time of year. The Christmas decorations are beautiful. Entrance a little difficult to find. It is a door off the Street, opposite a restaurant called Da Franco. You need to park in the square where the Carabinieri are located, about 5 minutes walk away. The hotel provides a pass. Room a decent size although the decor is a little \"cold\". The bathroom is spacious. There are bath robes and slippers provided, good quality white towels.

A little gem of a hotel in the heart of Old Bergamo (or Bergamo Alta). It is a little hard to find as there is no big sign - you have to look for the door and the address. It's up a steep flight of stairs to the reception - but there are elevators to the upper floors. Wonderful room and bathroom - very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was also quite nice with a selection of cheese and cold cuts Italian style. A word of warning if you have a car and are thinking of driving: DON'T. It is virtually impossible to get through the street to the hotel - very very narrow with people walking shoulder to shoulder. ONLY residents are allowed to park in Old Bergamo - although the hotel does give you a parking pass which allows you to park in the yellow lined areas reserved for residents. But trying to drive around Old Bergamo is not for the faint of heart - the roads are extremely narrow, very very steep in places, no asphalt rather stones imbedded in concrete which get extremely slippery even when dry. If you're driving a standard transmission, be prepared to smell your clutch and break pads burning. Leave your car below and take the funicular (tram) up to Bergamo Alta. It's a short walk to the hotel from the station. You can't get a better location - right in the heart of things - which is excellent is you have limited time.

Well located at the centre of the Alta Citta
The location is right in the middle of the Citta Alta. Easy access to all the sites and convenient to pop in during the day and to go back out for dinner without needing to travel far. The hotel room was large and the bathroom also large and looked recently well refurbished. The room overlooked a piazza occupied by a pizzeria so it was noisy on the Friday night even with the windows closed.
Breakfast was basic but adequate. Service too. We asked for coffee to go with the coffee making facilities in the room but we were told that instant coffee was not available ... so we bought a jar from a nearby shop.
We got a bad first impression as the entrance consists of a steep flight of stairs. No space to leave a luggage at the bottom of the stairs so I had to lug 2 bags up with no assistance or a lift available.
With the high-priced room rate I did expect better than average but the price reflects the location not the facilities. Granted, the hotel is a very old converted palazzo as most hotels in the old town would be. A lift is available on the first floor to upper floors.

We stayed for three nights and enjoyed the charming atmosphere of the hotel. The house is from the 14th century and beautifully renovated. The owner family and their staff are very nice and serve a delightful breakfast with local cold cuts and cheeses. The rooms are spacious, clean and have a very nice modern bath. The location is great, right in the center of the old town. I would come back any time, also for a visit with my family. Beautiful place to stay!

Guests should be aware that they may have to walk with luggage on arrival then up a flight of stairs. The rooms were comfortable though the lighting is poor, the shower rooms were excellent, breakfast was adequate . However the owner of the hotel gave us excellent advice as to what to do and where to go in Bergamo. All in all a very pleasant stay.

The hotel is perfectly situated in the Bergamo's Upper Town. Exit the hotel and you're right in the heart of this wonderful city. My room was great, with a view from the balcony across the tiled rooftops. Being a smaller hotel, the range of breakfast food on offer was reduced in comparison to the larger Italian hotels I stayed in, but fine. My experience was good, but I still came away thinking that the hotel was more expensive than it should be. So perhaps not value for money.

Good central position and easily accessed.
We used the transfer bus from Bergamo airport to the base of the funicular railway, then to its top station in the old city. The man at the newspaper kiosk directed us accurately towards the hotel, about a 5-6 min walk. The hotel's entrance is just an ordinary door at street level and it's reception desk is at the top of a steep flight of stairs - so we had some difficulty in getting our 15kg case up there. I expect someone would have helped if we had called out. After a simple book-in we went by lift to our room on the top floor. The room was good and the en-suite shower modern and classy. We spent a happy 2 nights at the Vecchia and would use it again if we re-visit Bergamo.
