The room was good. We were plagued by mosquitoes, as the motel room door had gaps around it. The amenities are few, except that the location is great and has lots of hiking opportunities. The rooms had coffee makers. I prefer to get coffee already made. Unfortunately, this was left over from the previous day 2 of the 3 days we were there. The restaurant has good food.

We enjoyed our stay at Cascade Lodge on the North Shore of Lake Superior. We booked a room in the lodge with a view of the lake and were pleased. It was an excellent location to see all the water falls from Gooseberry State Park, Tettegouche State Park, Cascade State Park and Grand Portage, and to visit the Split Rock Lighthouse. We also spent some time in Grand Marais.
The staff at the lodge was very informative and helpful. The Cascade Restaurant also has both good food and a friendly staff.

The water in my hotel room had visible sediment and significant discoloration for all three days. The staff initially dismissed it as harmless, but another staff member later admitted it was much worse than usual. While the room was clean, the building was old and noisy, and the staff’s overall response was not helpful. They continued to take reservations without addressing the water issue, which was disappointing and unprofessional.

We stayed in the lodge portion of the complex and really enjoyed our room and amenities. Since it was spring we were able to take advantage of open windows and fresh air. We utilized the downstairs lobby for reading and a game of scrabble, and even played a round of ping pong in the basement (it was a little more stuffy down there). The hiking trails were utilized to go over to Cascade River State Park. The steps and bridges are a bit run down but still useable. We also dined at the restaurant where the kitchen was a little backed up (it was a Saturday evening) but totally worth the wait as the burgers and poutine were delicious. We even wandered across the road to the lake to enjoy it close up. We are very happy with our stay, the only complaint would be the slightly saggy bed. It was not the most comfortable to sleep in. Otherwise everything met or exceeded our expectations. Thanks!

We loved walking down to the lodge for drinks and meals. The staff were all very friendly. We stayed in Cabin One and enjoyed the view of the lake and the wood burning stove. The table was big enough to play games. The bed very soft and squishy while we prefer a firmer mattress. The bathroom was from another era, but it was clean and typical of the North Shore. We would stay here again.

Very cute, clean. Beautiful water view. The only thing was the room was miserably hot. No air conditioning which we new. There was only a very small table top fan provided which basically did nothing. There should have been at least a large floor fan/box fan provided. Opened the windows to try to help circulation then very loud from traffic and outside lights too much so no sleep the first night.

Tiny cramped room. No air conditioning. Too many steps. No amenities. Beautiful lake view once you walk across the highway - not really viewable from room because of tiny paned windows. Loud highway noise throughout the night. Bathroom ill equipped - no vanity space and not even a hook on the wall for a robe or towel. Proximity to Grand Marais was convenient and the price was much more reasonable than staying right in Grand Marais so that is a positive.

We enjoyed our stay, with only one minor complaint. I booked this particular room because it has air conditioning but we were unable to use it. I understand that the temperatures were cooler (60's) while we were there and we didn't need it during the day, but at night, even with the windows open it was stuffy and humid. It's not a deal breaker, just be aware that if you book the room for air conditioning, you may not get it. Otherwise, the room was great. Nice view of the lake with a porch to sit on. Comfortable bed, nice linens, plentiful towels, even board games. Even though the lodge is older, I still recommend it due to the great location. You can access hiking trails from the lodge (state park and cross the hwy to walk by the lake). Also, the restaurant's food is great!

I stayed in a Basecamp. It is also called Motel unit 5A. The room was small, especially bathroom was very small so that I had to move carefully otherwise I end up dropping towels or touching the toilet bowl. The room smelled a bit stale. The bed was clean and reasonably comfortable. There were only two light bulbs in the room and one light bulb in the bathroom. I would not stay in this Lodge again.

My room was very cold and heat did not work and suggested portable heater did not work. All I could do was pile on blankets and wait for morning. I left at dawn because I was cold. The central lodge building was invitingly warm but that did not help me. I will not stay again-there are a lot of options

I loved the older charm of this lodge overlooking Lake Superior. The rooms do not have AC but the open windows and a fan were great with the eveningbreeze off of the lake was refreshing and made the room comfortable. The lodge had a great deck and common room to sit and relax. We parked right next to the lodge, had a wonderful meal in the restaurant next to the lodge and the room was neat and clean. The staff was very helpful with providing information to our questions. I highly recommend this as a great lodging option for the beauty of the North Shore.

The Cascade Lodge was super! First of all, very clean and has friendly staff. But, best of all it was lovely. The interior has a Scandinavian esthetic. Simple Scandi style furniture and artwork. It was so inviting and comfortable. Our room was large with beautiful, comfortable chairs. There were hooks on the wall for conveniently hanging our jackets, backlit bathroom mirror. So many details were attended to. The restaurant food was delicious. Finally, we hiked right out the back door to Cascade Falls and to Lookout Mountain. Thank you for a great stay!!!

The Lodge location, views of the lake and proximity to Grand Marais was wonderful.

Our room was recently renovated with the exception of the tub itself which could have been scrubbed out. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings simple, comfortable and attractive. The stair depth was a bit shallow so I ascended and descending sideways. The communal space was lovely as was the view of Lake Superior.

The lodge is located across the road from the lake. The road is the main thoroughfare on the north shore so traffic was fairly constant and loud. Unfortunately, it was hot outside so our windows were open (no A/C) and the traffic was loud - throughout the night - interrupting our sleep.

There is a restaurant associated with the lodge on the other side of the parking lot. It was very convenient for breakfast which was delicious.

The resort was full to capacity but was still very peaceful. No blaring music or noisy vehicles. It was my 7th time there this year and is very consistent in good service and cleanliness. Nothing fancy, no frills. The restaurant has good food although extremely noisy in the summer but that is how their money is made.

Our stay greatly exceeded our expectations. The lodge would be quite a romantic getaway if we hadn’t been staying with two young children. The room was very clean and furnished beautifully. There was a living area downstairs that was stocked with games, books, and nice sofas with windows overlooking the big lake. It was a short drive into downtown Grand Marais, and a short hike to the Cascade Falls. The restaurant next door offers a discount with your stay and is quite tasty. The front office staff were all friendly. I hope I get the opportunity to stay here again.

We were pleasantly surprised by the peace and quiet at the site, in spite of busy North Shore traffic. We stayed in the Birdhouse cabin, which was small and cozy. It's a short walk to Lake Superior, and we enjoyed just sitting and watching the waves. However, the on-site restaurant is always crazy busy. We never got to eat there. We brought a cooler, and there was a small microwave and refrigerator in our cabin, but I wish we had brought more food with us. A lot of time was wasted finding a place to eat and waiting for service. Also, the wifi isn't the greatest, so some people might find that frustrating. Just shut off your phone and enjoy the scenery! Overall, its a beautiful place and a great location as a base while you explore the area.

Some things to keep in mind. Since the lodge is right next to Hwy 61, there is a lot of road noise from the constant traffic that is going up and down the shore (the room faced the highway and the window needed to be open to cool it down. The room got a bit warm when the temp was warm outside. Our room did not have airconditioning. There was a portable fan in the room which was a huge help. Be careful crossing the road to visit the lake as Hwy 61 is very busy during the summer months. A pedestrian crosswalk would be a good. Parking is an issue for lodge guests when it's busy.

Nicely remodeled room, despite the lodge being almost 100 years old. Virtually no place to set things in the bathroom or hang clothes. Needs a soap dish next to the sink.

Positives: Nicely kept up interior. I loved the atmosphere and decor. Staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful. Fun game room in the basement with pool table and 3 old school video games. Ice machine is also in the basement as well as coin opperated laundry, should you have need.
Area across the road, lakeside, was beautiful and easy access to lake. Restaurant next door had very good food and was convenient for dinner both nights (Make sure you get there by 7:30pm as they close at 8pm, even on the weekends). Overall well-maintained property. Outside of the building could use a new paint job but that is cosmetic stuff which didn't affect my stay.

The staff was welcoming. I stayed in the main lodge. There is a cozy, large sitting area with comfortable chairs and couches to enjoy the view of the lake. They have books and games for you to use. There is a porch with chairs out front to use, unfortunately, it was raining while I was there, so I didn't sit out there. There is a rec room in the basement with a pool table and games that would be good for kids on a rainy day. My room was a cozy retreat. There isn't any a/c in the rooms but there is a fan supplied, with the window open and the fan on I slept fine. The restaurant next door has really good food. I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed in motel 5D. I think there are better options at the lodge or other cabins? It was ok, kind of dark and facing the woods not the lake. Staff was very nice. Beds not super comfortable. Game room in the lodge basement dark and disorganized. It was a pleasant stay and not terrible, 3 stars. The futon was kind of broken and a screen fell out of our window, screen door also broken. Nice to have a kitchen. Not great but we still had a great time at the state parks. Can't really recommend, at least motel5d. There may be better options at the property, not sure.

Very nice rustic cabins. Clean, even the interior logs were dusted. The C1 cabin had a large bathroom well stock with towels and bathroom amenities. Great view of the lake from inside and the small deck. And somehow the bed was more comfortable than my bed at home.

The room was ok, the bed and bathroom were good. The kitchen had everything you needed. The room is adjoining the common area so at times it was loud. My only complaint about the room was the blinds on the windows, they were either broken and wouldn't open or the blinds were all bent up letting anyone who is walking by see right in. Out of the all the windows only 2 had a working set. The owners should invest in the $100 ot would cost to replace the bad ones.
