This is a really lovely hotel. You can see it easily if you arrive on the airport light railway and the location is excellent for exploring Bergen.
Check in was a little slow, but the staff were very helpful and the hotel looked amazing decorated for christmas.
I paid for an upgrade directly with the hotel and had a great Grande View room over the Christmas Market.
We had planned to have a quiet drink in the bar the saturday night, but there seemed to be a private event on and we couldnt find anywhere to go. Possibly a small bar area for hotel guests might be a suggestion?.
Breakfast was incredible. Such a huge selection.
We used the pool and spa on our final day which was lovely. A late checkout was reasonable at £40.
Overall, we loved our time at the Hotel Norge and would definately return.

Pros: Excellent location, comfortable, plenty of space in the room, clean. All the things you look for in a nice hotel. Would stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Only con: Like most other hotels we stayed at in Scandinavia, you can't control the A/C yourself. We generally solved this issue by opening the windows at night, but if you are a warm sleeper this is something to consider. It was not abnormally warm in the room so it was fine (especially with windows open in Sept), but if it's very important to you to sleep with the room very cold you may need to compromise a bit.

Hotel is seriously understaffed although staff lovely. Always a wait at reception and the spa was unattended at times as one lady tries to do everything. First nights sleep awful as on noisy side of hotel. Room so tiny there wasn’t enough floor space to open suitcase. Second room quieter and slightly bigger.
Booked the spa expecting there to be treatments available. It’s just a pool, sauna and steam.
Not really worth the money altho breakfast (paid extra) was excellent.

I booked a Lake View room, but there was absolutely no lake view—it was completely misleading. On top of that, the room didn’t have robes, and when I asked the front desk, they insisted they didn’t have any. Expedia was very helpful and understanding when I reached out, but the hotel itself offered no explanation or apology.

After I pressed the issue again the next day, they eventually provided a robe, only to take it away the following morning. When I asked about it, they told me I could buy one, which was both unprofessional and inappropriate.

Our 3-night stay was incredibly disappointing, and the lack of basic customer service only made it worse. I will never return to this property and cannot recommend it to anyone.

The receptionist was awful. We waited in line for about 10 minutes before a trainee was able to help. He just gave us the key without providing any information. They could not find our luggage for about 10 minutes. It took about 25 minutes to check in. I realized that real full time employees were busy chatting with each other in the back room and left the reception much unattended.
Same issue when we checked out. No one was there to help for five minutes.

Hotel Norge

Hotel Norge was recommended by several bloggers. The location was ideal. In a quieter part of city Centre with plenty of shops restaurants parks, museums, public spaces. Probably the nicest hotel we saw during our week long stay in Bergen. The service at reception was helpful with directions and managing the incoming traffic. Our room was supposed to have a Mountain View -instead we got a window that looked onto an office building window extremely close to our building. So no view -even difficult to tell if it was light outside. Given the prices this was extremely disappointing. The bar service was slow with just a couple of staff working but the drinks & food were good. We had a fire alarm go off at 4:30 am the morning we were leaving. Although untimely they did seem to get everyone out & back -however there never was any explanation or real direction outside. There is no “spa” but there is an indoor pool. They did recommend another place for a massage & it was great. City Centre was very walkable & we appreciated coming back to Hotel Norge at the end of a day of being out & about.

The staff is overall not that helpful and not that friendly. The parking is extremely limited on site so you’ll have to park in a garage 10min away from the hotel. The location is great, at the heart of the square and nearby a bus stop. Walkable to the wharf. The swimming pool closes early (6pm?) and you need to pay and make a reservation ahead of time to use it (they need to specify this on the website). The fire alarm went off at 4:30AM and everybody had to evacuate in the cold. The staff provided no explanation of what happened and did not offer any compensation for the trouble.

The Breakfast menu range was awesome and the reception guy who kindly accepted the early check was excellent.
The only thing I can suggest is to make a free umbrella service rather than chargeable type as it’s not necessary to charge that thing.

Not worst hotel I've stayed at but just an awful experience. Wasn't all the hotel's fault but it was way too noisy outside, I guess it's next door to a club so the base and people yelling went all night. Called lobby three times, no one picked up. so I had to go down and find someone then switch rooms at 1:30 in the morning. I had to go up and down five times to check new room, go back and get my bag, then go back again because key card didn't work. It was a hot mess. I was told by a rep they do laundry and I packed assuming I could give them my dirty clothes, then I get there and they say not on Saturday and Sunday so I wasted 4 hours at a local self serve laundry joint. The rooms are way too small, you take one step out of bed and in you're in the bathroom (and I've been on some small Euro hotels, but this was comical). There was confusion w my bag coming from a porter- guy at desk didn't care. Then there was a fire alarm at 4 am. It's a decent looking hotel and spa and restaurant are fine, good breakfast too. But why is there a loud ass DJ in the lobby all day? So dumb. Your $ is better spent elsewhere around Bergen- this place felt like a lipstick on a pig situation. If I wasn't \"upgraded\" to the room I got I would've either moved hotels or challenged the purchase.

Travelling with 2 teenagers, and booked a room that had 2 beds, but wasn't ready when we arrived at 8PM. Parking is a nightmare (if you can get it) and the reception staff is very unhelpful. Seems like it mainly caters to cruise ship vacationers. Balcony view was nice, but dirty from the pigeon feathers and poop. The buffet is award winning and is worthy of 5 stars alone.

Hotel Norge is an acceptable hotel. Not amazing as its star rating might suggest but neither was it terrible. The good stuff first: the room decor was nice as it was throughout the rest of hotel. The lobby had an air of quality and we loved the dramatic mood lighting, no doubt from some serious investment put into the establishment by Scandic. Norge’s location was also very good - all the key locations you’d want to visit in Bergen were easily walkable and the light rail that you can catch from the airport terminates just outside.

Then there was the no so good stuff: check-in was long, despite there being three receptionists being on the welcome desk. The receptionist we got directed us to the elevators only to find our room was on the same floor and thus were not needed - confusing! The pool amenity wasn’t free for hotel guests and you had to pay extra to use it which left a sour taste after what we paid.

Speaking of the room, to get to it we had to walk through a series of long corridors - past commodes, luggage trolleys and cleaning carts that were being stored. This felt rather unwelcoming and like we ourselves were being stored in the broom cupboard! The cleaning carts had printouts of the day’s events and cleaning schedule on it, complete with the Scandic logo - not sure that was supposed to be seen by us guests!

If given the chance again, I would probably only consider booking Hotel Norge if no other five or four star hotels were available.

It was a bit pricey for the size of the room but it was convenient and close to everything I needed to go to. The term twin bed is a bit misleading as they push the twin beds together and there’s no way to separate them. Other than that, the beds were very comfortable and clean. There were a lot of lights in the room but it was either ALL of them on or off at the same time. You couldn’t turn one on and keep the others off. There was a great view out the window and I enjoyed staying there.

Overall a good property and good location. Bookings made via third party channels such as Hotels.com seem to get the most undesirable rooms; in this case the back of the property has a club/bar below it which blasts music until late into the night making sleep a bit of a challenge. Breakfast is a great spread but packed as this property serves the cruise crowd. Word of warning, the pool has age restrictions after 10:00 AM and there is a $25/person cost for adults.

I booked for 4 days and my window faced an office building (where they could clearly see inside) so I had to have curtains closed all the time. There was also a bar across the street and it was so loud until 2-3 am including empty glass into trash at 3. I mentioned this to staff and they didn’t offer to move my room. The rooms are quite small too with too much furniture in them so not enough space for a large suitcase. I was alone and can only imagine a couple with 2 large suitcases. The bed configuration is odd and no plug on one side of the bed. Great location if facing different direction and for walking.

Very nice hotel & staff. Superb breakfast. The LARGEST bed pillow you will ever see. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy outside being in the city centre; late at night and early morning. No A/C meant having the window open which allowed for all the street noise. But would still recommend. Short walk from train station helped too.

The reason I didn’t give it more stars is because the staff weren’t particularly friendly - in fact a couple staff at the front desk were quite rude. Also the rooms were a bit outdated but my kids liked the bunk beds in the family room.

Only change i would suggest is having children's swimming on until 11am as currently only open for kids to swim 8 to 10am and we felt clashes with main breakfast times. Or have a 5-7pm slot too.

This is a great hotel with accosting staff, best rooms, and the best breakfast buffet I’ve had in a long time. Unfortunately it is tough to sleep with the noise both from the hotel and the city below. Avoid a room near the elevator at all costs since the bass of the lobby music will travel up the elevator not stop until 6am. We changed rooms to find events happen outside the hotel that cause very loud music at all times of the night. This was not a concern in hotels away from the city park during past visits.

Wonderful hotel right in the heart of Bergen, we were able to walk easily to all the things we had planned for our trip and more! The hotel is gorgeous, the complimentary breakfast was absolutely delicious and so is their restaurant on the first floor. The rooms are nice, a bit on the smaller side if you go economical, I imagine the other rooms are bigger if you are willing to pay for those!

Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would stay here again!

Amazing amenities! The only draw back which is unfortunate in Europe was air conditioning. It barely worked if at all. Americans want air conditioning in Europe and honestly seek hotels that provide it. Breakfast buffet was fantastic!

We paid for a room with a balcony facing the park in front of the hotel. We were offered a tiny room with zero view and no balcony. Outrageous as we got charged a top rate for our room. Norge claimed not to be able to find the Hotels.com confirmation despite the fact that we produced it. Norge told us they would make it right and never did the slightest thing to do so.

The Expedia site lists one of the hotel’s amenities as: parking provided. We arrived at 1720 on a Saturday night and were informed that the parking garage was full. Instructed to go to a different hotel and see if they had any parking available. 4 hours later my husband found a parking garage offsite to park the car in, after returning to the hotel and having the desk staff tell a person ahead of him checking in to check the parking garage for availability. When the staff was questioned re: why there may be openings in the garage now when 2 hours prior the garage was full. The staff’s response was” that that guest was staying 2 nights”. My husband stated he was staying 3 nights. No comment from the staff.

The parking garage my husband discovered had a total of 15 parking spots, 1 for handicapped, 1 marked Reserved for management, 3 with charging stations leaving 10 parking spots for hybrids or gas powered vehicles. The Reserved for Management spot was open at 1920 on a Saturday night so my husband returned to the front desk and asked to speak to the Manager to inquire if he there was a manager on duty or if he could park in that spot.
There was no one with the title of Manager on Duty and whomever was above the desk clerk that she went to talk to did not want to come to the front desk and talk with my husband.
Along with this we had no housekeeping service one day and a fire alarm on Saturday and had to vacate the hotel

This hotel is very close to a tram station that can take you to the airport. Excellent breakfast with lots of great choices. Location is fantastic. Walkable to the fish market and Bergen shopping district.

The location and breakfast merit a 5, the rooms are a 3 or below. I expected a small room, but there was very little space for clothes or luggage. (We came off of the Hurtigruten, where they made excellent use of a smaller space.) Also, the room was very hot and couldn't easily be cooled down . . . at one point we had the door to the hall open to try to get some cool air.
