Lovely seafront property with great facilities

Beautiful setting and our room on 8th floor had amazing views over the sea and of the forteza. The room itself was very spacious with a separate good size bedroom with plenty of storage and open plan living room/kitchen area. Kitchen was well equipped although a few more glasses would have been nice. The bathroom was also a good size , the only negative was the shower which was over the bath and it was difficult to contain the water which sprayed everywhere including the floor. The pool area was lovely with plenty of sun beds and a nice bar area as well as an evening bar with stunning views. The staff were great . Very helpful and the cleaning was done to a high standard. Approx 15 min walk into the old town . Path was quite narrow in places and road was busy but easy to get buses and taxis. There were quite a lot of steps to the hotel just to be aware

We were provided a list of excursions available through a local tour operator. The front desk staff was helpful in booking the excursion and arranged a bagged meal to be left in our suite as pick-up times didn't allow us to use the breakfast buffet.

Amazing!

Amazing experience overall. Great check in, great room, great space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Cold bottle of wine, fruit and water in the fridge and amazing breakfast. Staff also supper friendly. One of the best bookings I’ve made on hotels.com for my family (who tend to be picky)

The food and drink was good, especially the included breakfast. We loved the location between Chania and Heraklion for sightseeing. The town of Rethymno was charming with good food and shopping. Pool was lovely but unheated. Friends got massages at the spa and were pleased with the results.

Delightful experience!

The staff are so friendly and helpful! From the front desk, to the breakfast staff, housekeeping and laundry service, all were exceptional!
The hotel has a lovely breakfast everyday with a wide variety of both hot and cold options, many of which are locally sourced.
The evening patio dining and bar overlooked the ocean and although the menu was not as expansive, there were quite a lot of beverage options.
The room we had was one of the suites, and met all of our needs. The housekeeping staff kept us well supplied with all amenities.
The spa was wonderful as well. I enjoyed my 20% discount on my massage which was very enjoyable.
Overall a very nice stay!

Worth stay at.

Fantastic place to stay. Some modern updates. Nice view. Cleaning and breakfast buffet staff were great! We had one miserable male night manager front desk person who seamed to be upset about us asking for more toilet paper and made me get it out of the lobby washroom. Not cool. But the breakfast was great so was the pool. I recommend this hotel.

The apartments were modern clean and spacious a 15 minute walk to the old town which is doable unless extremely hot then you would get a taxi which ranges from 7 to 9 euros depending on which taxi driver you get. The hotel was lovely and my only comment would be that I wish they had more of the staff visit the pool area to ask if we would like a drink instead of having to get up and go to the bar to order. Overall a great stay and very happy with our holiday.

We did enjoy our stay very much. The rooms were big enough for 4 people and quiet as well as clean. Very responsive service. The pool area though is too small - most beds were always taken and the water is very warm. There is no private beach nearby as mentioned in the property information. The property/rooms are a little dated too, especially the bathrooms. We would still come back as we enjoyed the great ocean view and the quietness of the rooms.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Location, staff, view were all amazing.
The only thing about the town Ethymno I would say is that it has a lot to offer but if you want to go to south or some of the other places that are renowned , they are usually on the other side of Chania and since this hotel is itself about one hour away from Chania it makes the trip longer. However the scenary as you drive is amazing so well worth it

My Wife and I really enjoyed the wellness features of our stay. Large spacious room with 2 private balcony's with a sea view. These were really a strong plus for our stay. Excellent local taverns and eatery's. recommend renting a car to get around the local area. The internet was very spotty to un usable at times. The cable tv was also very poor. The Breakfast was average. not bad but nothing special. Overall the hotel was good value and will stay again if in the area. the staff like all of Greece were pleasant professional and very friendly. I RECONEMEND THE SPA AS WELL VERY NICE FACILITIES!

This property has amazing views and was so relaxing. It’s a little walk to shopping and restaurants in Rethymno but we walked down to the beach area across the street and along the water into town. We really enjoyed our walks and being close to the activity but not too close. The staff was amazing and the breakfast was excellent. The room was perfect, clean and comfortable! We would love to visit again.

The minute my husband and I entered the hotel, we were so happy. The people at the front desk were beyond kind and helpful. They answered any questions we had and were even available to help us call a cab whenever we needed to leave the hotel. Our room was especially amazing. It was so clean, comfortable, convenient in more ways than we were prepared for a hotel room, and quiet. We couldn't have asked for a better hotel to stay at while in Rethymno. We will stay here every time we return!

Beautiful hotel. I stayed in a superior 1 bed apartment and it is the best room I have ever stayed in on holiday. It was like having your own plush flat with a double balcony, queen size bed, longe and dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Even the balcony furniture was exceptional - relaxing chairs and a separate dining table. All rooms have a sea view which is amazing.
Could not fault the staff, their professionalism and politeness. Nothing was too much for them.
Fab quiet pool area with great sunbeds and umbrellas - and no reserving of beds.
Lovely bar, snack and dinner menu very reasonable.
All in all - pretty perfect

Overall pleased with our stay. Hotel is about 10 mins walk to old town of Rethymno.
Staff friendly and very helpful. Rooms are spacious and offer great views of the sea. Only wished our bed sheets/pillow cases would have been changed at some point during our 6 day stay. Bathroom shower has small glass door resulting in water getting all over the bathroom floor. Not a deal breaker but must be a better solution.

Macaris Suite and Spa is relatively close to the centre of Rethymno (10 minutes by foot), in a very quiet position and a nice view to the sea. Our rooms were really large and comfortable, with a huge terrace (there was even a Jacuzzi!). We had a really nice stay, the staff helpful, the athmosphere relaxing, the service excellent. What else can we say...we love Crete and Greece!

Good location just on the edge of the old town. Rooms are larger than average with good size bathroom and extended kitchen and living area. Great terrace space.
Pool and spa hours could be extended a little longer in the evening and perhaps an 8am breakfast for early risers.
The gym was a bit mediocre but as most time was spent outside in the fabulous sunshine this wasn’t much of an issue.

It is a 20-25 minute walk into Rethymno old town, which we found very agreeable, but migh5 not be for everyone. This was our first time at the Macaris and was very impressed. The service was outstanding and the staff extremely helpful.
Special mention to Manolis from Kournas.
Also Manolis George and Despina were great. Our spacious 2 bedroom had all the amenities needed. The location is a 15 minute walk to the old town and 10 minute walk to the local bus terminal. Although the hotel is on a moderate hill it gives you spectacular views from the hotel. We just missed out on the opening to their new bar on the 4th floor which has sweeping views of the old port and ocean. Looking forward to staying at the Macaris next time we visit Rethymno

Modern resort with many amenities. We had a 2 bdrm 1.5 bath suite with jacuzzi. Large private balcony with fantastic views of the fortress. Old town Rethymnon 1 km away made for nice walk. Free buffet style breakfast each day with assortment of local dishes. Would stay here again.

This hotel was not what we expected at all. It was tied and needs to be updated. We had some issues regarding upgrading our room which wasn't able to be done but other people that asked after us was able to be upgraded. The towels were old and tread bared, the hair dryer was this box thing on the wall that was made in the 50's by looking at it. The location is good though very close to the old town

We enjoyed our stay but wouldn't return out of peak time as the hotel and staff were clearly in wind down mode. A little less helpful than what we've experienced in Greece. Having said that we had a great room, high floor, great view. The guy behind the bar was engaging and helpful and made a great G&T though so thumbs up for him. Heads up, the hot tub on the balcony is allegedly extra €€€€ per night but you wont know until you ask. The location was handy, breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. There are plenty of beaches near so there's no need to drive far.

We had a suite overlooking the pool and with partial sea view. The suite could easily sleep 6 which would make this very good value for money. We were a couple but still happy with the rate we paid.
Very good facilities in the suite. Hotel very clean and modern. Good choice at breakfast. All staff extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is located about 1km from the old town / harbour and where we eat each night. Rethymnon has a great range of restaurants, bars and night life. There are no bars or restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The hotel does have it's own bar, but very few guests used this and hence it lacked atmosphere in the evening. Guests need have use of a hire car. Would we stay here again? - yes!.

Beautiful apartments with fantastic staff

Totally loved this place ...you cannot fault the staff from reception , to breakfast staff to bar staff to housekeeping .
The apartment was everything we needed , our own kitchen although we didn’t cook, great to have a large fridge freezer . Maybe dishwasher tablets and tea towel would be handy ( will bring some next time as def coming back )
The pool area and loungers were fantastic ...never too busy so we always got beds together ...lovely guests too , mainly couples and mature people ...no hens or stags here ....
There is a roof top bar but it wasn’t open but poss will open in the high season. The view from the 9th floor was outstanding as was the lovely comfy chairs to enjoy it .
Breakfast was really good , so much to choose from ..
Cocktails and wine good too and reasonable
Didn’t use the spa but saw it and it’s stunning
20 min walk to the old town which I just loved , lots of nice restaurants and fantastic shopping ..we ate at alea and the owner /chef came out to ensure we had a lovely evening .
Probably one of my favourite places to visit to date ...will be returning next year .

Wonderful hotel, once you learn to navigate through old town surprisingly close and pleasant walk into to the classy old town. Location is great (easy to park), pool area is fabulous, spotlessly clean and staff are wonderful (special mention to Kostas and Aspa who were professional and super friendly). Breakfasts catered for everyone and set us up for the whole day. Really sad to have left-sign of a great hotel. Would we go back? You bet, In a heartbeat!

Far exceeded our expectations.

We spent a week at the Macaris Suites & Spa in July 2017. We booked a one bedroom suite and it looked just like the photographs. The deck of our suite was enormous and provided amazing views of the sea and the fortress in Rethymno. The suite had a full kitchen which we used every evening to make dinner. There was a table that sat four inside and outside. We ate every dinner outside on our deck overlooking the sea. The air conditioning worked extremely well - particularly useful as it was in the mid 30s celsius for our entire stay. Breakfast was included in our rate. It was simply the best breakfast we have ever had. We have never seen such a wide selection of breakfast items. Last but not least, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Close to town and coast

The hotel is only about 100 metres from the coast where there is a small secluded and sheltered beach. There is a busy main road between the hotel and the coast but the hotel is on a hillside above the road and so insulated from most traffic noise. The hotel is about a 15 minute brisk walk to the old town where you can find lots of shops and restaurants/taverns. There are a few shops and restaurants slightly closer, including a supermarket.The rooms are large and have a good sized and comfortable kitchen/lounge, bedroom, bathroom and balcony. Having an executive suite means that a good sea view was guaranteed The hotel staff was wonderful and the cleaners fastidious. Food in the hotel restaurant/bar was pretty basic but on the other hand the buffet breakfast was fantastic. Parking was available outside the hotel on a quiet side road.

The second time that we have stayed. Buffet breakfast in pleasant surroundings is healthy and varied. The rooms are well equipped both for self catering and relaxing but it is a very short walk into the old town and its countless restaurants. The Italian ice cream is particularly delicious but be careful from which animal the milk came from if your choosy. We never felt in any risk whilst wondering around during darkness.

We checked in at 9pm, we were greeted by this young gentleman \"veliz\" he was nice and welcomed us. He gave us directions to go to Elafonissi and not to mention he sent us a complimentary Champagne for our Honeymoon trip. Out of all staff i think he's the only one who gave us smile at all times. I feel like the rest of the staffs didnt want to be there. Bathroom smells moldy, it needs better lighting. Def AC needs to be colder, pillows needs to be replaced. That ivory sheets needs to be changed to white color (looks old). Other than that, everything else's is great. Varieties of breakfast was wonderful. Hotel close to Fortaleza Rethymno port.

Spacious and wonderful hotel with a perfect team!

Lovely hotel and staff - great for a relaxing stay

We stayed at the Macaris from the 17th - 24th September as a last minute get away at the end of the summer. Overall the look of the hotel from reception and the communal areas is great. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We had a room on the first floor which was ideal for accessing the restaurant for breakfast and the pool. The room was clear and very spacious and the lounge, kitchen and bedroom were to a high standard. The only thing that let this down for being a 4 star hotel was the bathroom. This was poorly finished and a bad design with a shower over the bath and no screen so the floor got wet when you showered. The hairdryer was also poor and took ages to dry my hair. The cleaners were fabulous and left the room very clean each day (mopping the floors too!).
There is a big bar area at the hotel and fabulous Sky Lounge which is rarely used from the look of it. This is a shame and I think there should be happy hour between say 5 and 7 or at sunset to encourage guests to use these areas as they are not used. Perhaps they could have a little cocktail party once a week at the Sky Lounge as they have a built in bar upstairs to again give guests a reason to mix and socialise.

Exceeded our expectations

A very relaxing hotel with excellent staff and facilities making our holiday very special. Our 8th floor suite was spacious with an excellent range of facilities that would also suit self-catering, the enormous balcony offered a lovely view towards the Fortezza. The breakfast restaurant offered a wide selection of food for all tastes in a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. Although in the evening we preferred to walk into the Old Town to experience a wide range of local cuisine, the hotel's rooftop restaurant offered a good menu and a wonderful view over the bay. In addition the poolside restaurant offered good food and service. The pool area was clean and attractive. The staff were always friendly, helpful and professional.

The hotel itself is great, no nice beaches close

The hotel is quiet and peaceful with great facilities. The only downside is that it is at least 10 minute drive from the nearest beach so you can't walk to one.

We had a great time at the hotel. The kids went crazy for the room Jacuzzi and the swimming pool. We had a magnificent view on the sea from a wide balcony. Everything was clean and well maintained.

Nice hotel. Advertised as on the beach but it is actually down a steep hill and across the street. Not quite what we were expecting. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Really nice patio with a private hot tub. Nice pool albeit a bit on the small side. Walk to old town of Rethymno was about a mile. All in all very nice place.

Quite expensive hotel, far away from old city and restaurants. No beach at walking distance - car recommended. The only advantage was the terrace and view (but we paid for it :) ). Unbalanced price quality ratio in my opinion.

Superb Sea Views

Stayed for a week and enjoyed every aspect of the hotel. Balconies are superb for relaxing on so we didnt need to go to the pool. Walk to Old Town takes about 10mins and you dont need to walk on the main road.
Staff were very helpful and we would certainly stay here again.

Wonderful hotel in Rethymno!

Our family was very impressed with everything about this hotel! Our suite was clean and spacious, and had a gorgeous view of the sea. When we entered our room there was a plate of fresh fruit, as well as a complimentary bottle of wine and water in the fridge. The staff that we met at the front desk, poolside and at breakfast were top notch! We really enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet. The location was convenient, and was about an hour drive to both Chania and Heraklion. It is also a short walk to downtown Rethymno with plenty of shops and restaurants, and the ruins of a Venetian fortress. We highly recommend this hotel!

Modern hotel with good facilities

We stayed in an executive suite on the 8th floor, 2 bedrooms for a family of 4. The suite was very comfortable and well-appointed and had good distant views of the castle, old town, sea and mountains. The near view is not as good, and the area around the town was more functional than charming. But an easy taxi ride into town. Nice outdoor pool area, the kids were allowed in the indoor pool (although this may have been as the outside pool was too cold in April). Breakfast was great, and the food in both room service and in the bar area at night was really good. A nice place to stay in Rethymno. Staff were friendly and helpful
