It was a small cute place with not much happening during my stay. You could only eat the fixed $125 menu for dinner by reservation only which may cater to some. But they did include a nice homestyle break every morning which I loved. I would say they could do a better job at cleaning the windowsills because I saw lots of con webs and dead bugs in my room. Overall, I would come back! Cute cottage getaway.

Clean room, awesome breakfast, enjoyed having coffee, would have enjoyed a larger coffee selection.
Liked having manager there on regular basis filling us in on things, told us about new property purchases and coming upgrades.and handling details(we brought wine, assistes us keeping it chilled. We took a walk on the grounds. Cold but epic.

My husband and I travelled to Hillbrook Inn over the weekend to celebrate his birthday. We stayed in Summit Room in the farmhouse. It was clean, private and a beautiful space with extra sitting room area. We took advantage of the charcuterie board on our arrival and it was a nice treat before heading to dinner. Unfortunately we were not able to book a dinner reservation or spa because services were already full. However, after we went out for dinner we enjoyed a lovely drink at the bar and a fun chat with the bartender, Allie. Our breakfast on Sunday morning was wonderful by the fireside. Attentive service and delicious meal.

I booked this online for 4 people and got a confirmation for the room, but when I got there the charged me an extra $100 for extra guests plus a dinner cancellation fee and a resort fee. What was promised on Expedia was not what I got. Shame on the property and Expedia -- and I'm a longtime customer of the latter.

Property was massively understaffed our room was not cleaned between nights and the dinner was executed terribly. Back up chef on duty had no idea how to prepare Tuna and managed to make it taste like ham. What staff was on duty tried hard but are overwhelmed by the lack of proper staffing.

I loved everything about this place!!! The staff! The lodging!! The food!!! The grounds!! This B&B is out in the country, very historical land and part of the building. Beautiful tutor design.
I can’t wait to come back! Close to Harper’s Ferry which is a treat as well.

Short stay but peaceful

This is an Inn in a very rural area. It is very peaceful and this was much needed to quiet the mind. I went on the verge of the leaves changing in the fall so it was quite beautiful with changing leaves but still green grass and some plants blooming. I brought my small dog in this solo trip and it was a nice touch to leave a couple of milk bones in the room for him. I didn't go to the dining area for breakfast or dinner so I can't comment of this portion.

Poor customer service & overrated

Pretty location but lacking in customer service. Went for an anniversary stay, but couldn't eat at the hotel restaurant because we hadn't reserved enough in advance. Hotel staff dismissive and arrogant about it, saying they had called and emailed to advise of the need to reserve in advance, which a review of call records and emails showed simply wasn't true. Upon checkout wasn't asked 'how was your stay,' not surprising as they are pretty pleased with themselves and don't really care if a guest likes it or not. Breakfast was ok, but given how much they tout it had expected more. Overall disappointing - look elsewhere.

I was on a family history tour, and the stay there just fit in with the feel of what I was doing.
The buildings were old (as hoped for), but beautiful, charming and well maintained.
I loved the little quirks in the path to get to the dining area.
I stayed in one the homes off the main site.
The map made finding the place easy.
I was very comfortable in the room, drinking coffee in front of the fireplace.
The dinner was phenomenal, though a bit pricey.
However, for the experience it was well worth it.
I told the server Jade that I was going to divorce my spouse, marry the chef and get big. :)

We stayed in the Serenity suite. It was quiet, comfortable, and relaxing. Everything was wonderful. The only thing I would have changed, would have been to offer a more varied breakfast. We didn’t partake because the menu seemed limited but it was included so no worry. There are also a few different coffee shops nearby to chose from as well.

The Hillbrook Inn & Spa was wonderful. We stayed in the historic Hawthorne House and it was very peaceful and everything was beautiful. The perfect place for a romantic get-a-away! The property itself is very beautiful. Classic luxury with some wear and tear. The staff stays later than most bnbs and they have a great bar selection. We stayed in one if the attic rooms which was surprisingly spacious. The restaurant is very imtimate and on the higher end. We enjoyed our stay.

Off the beaten trail -deep in the woods.

This was our 51st Anniversary vacation. Chose the Hillbrook Inn from a LONG list of possibilities. Selected this location because I wanted to have our Anniversary Dinner at the Bavarian Inn, in Shepardstown and there were no rooms at the Bavarian Inn for the dates I desired.
The Hillbrook Inn is a nice place but it is way off the beaten trail. The drive into the Inn is a dusty gravel road that can only be accessed at less than 10 mph. Not a biggie, but it should be noted, especially after it rains. My vehicle was covered with grey material similar to that of cement.
We stayed in the Bamford Room at the end of the Main House. Nice and separate from the rest of the rooms. Quiet and somewhat cozy. It had two ways of entering, either through the Main House or from the outside through a private door, very convenient.
Bed was hard to get into since it is an older style, high off the floor. A small two step footstool was provided. The pillows are standard style,but soft.
Now the fun part. Want a cold shower-you can have it!!! In the morning, it takes about five minutes for the water to get warm enough to shower for the first person. The next person get immediate hot water. Another 'oops' was the air conditioning was working when we arrived but the longer it was on the less it worked. 85 outside and 78 inside. Reported it and maintenance came and cleaned the filter.
Overall, a nice place to stay. A bit high priced but it has all the amenities for a quiet vacation. Might be back

We had a wonderful stay for a romantic overnight celebrating our engagement anniversary at the Hillbrook Inn. Oftentimes a place's pictures oversell a place, but this location's grounds are really that beautiful! Hot water pressure is a little low (took about an hour to fill the bath in the Winter Cottage), but we had an amazing time overall in this beautiful locale. If money is tight, BEWARE they did charge an unexpected $25 resort fee after our stay.

Staff are friendly and responsive. Property is lovely - wonderful grounds that provide a peaceful garden atmosphere. Room was cozy with an excellent view.

Exercise room has ancient aerobic equipment that mostly didn’t work. No weights or resistance bands.

Dinner is worth the experience. Breakfast was unremarkable and lacked attention to detail [no fruit or vegetable side/garnish on day 1] although coffee was delicious.

Historic building with quirky rooms

The Point room was up a narrow, steep flight of stairs and accessed through an even narrower tunnel. My 6 foot tall husband had to stoop to enter. An overweight person wouldn’t fit. This room is unsuitable for a tall, fat or elderly person. Staff was helpful, but not wearing masks. Waitress gave us a good history of the building. We would return if we got a first floor room.

Room was very clean. We stayed in the west suite at the hawthorn and the sunset was amazing from that house. That room doesn’t have a bathtub which was slightly disappointing but very nice otherwise. It was about a 5 minute drive to the main house and breakfast was included, which we didn’t realize. Someone called to ask about dietary restrictions before our arrival, which they were also able to accommodate. Guest services texted us often during our stay to make sure everything was satisfactory.

Wonderful Honeymoon!

My (new) wife and I enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon at Hillbrook Inn. The staff was wonderful, the accommodations cozy and clean, and the food was amazing. The area is a great hub near Harpers Ferry for hiking or other outdoor activities. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing, peaceful stay and hope to return for years to come to celebrate anniversaries!

Rated service only as average because one does get the feeling of a cruise ship arrangement where one is reminded of the “opportunity to leave tips” every time one turns around. As an adult I know when and where to tip and do not want to feel nickeled and dimed everywhere. The “resort fee” adds to that feel (particularly since it turned out our room was off-property). I’d rather see a higher room rate and not constantly have to deal with it. Also, the “2-course breakfast” is a somewhat ambitious term for a bowl of hot cereal and plain egg with bacon.

We really liked the room and the house, stayed at the Hawtorn in the East room.
The only downsides: 1. no ability to control the room temperature (we were told we could call and ask to change it) and 2. the distance from the main house (not a big issue though).

When we checked in we were asked to pay a resort fee, that was not mentioned when the stay was booked, and they waved it when we requested, but FYI.

The place was very clean, the staff was very friendly. We loved walking around the grounds and laying in the hammock. It was very nice to get out of the hustle-bushel of the city. If you are there on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday, there is live horse racing at the Hollywood Casino which is only 7 miles away.

Our only negatives were that the bathroom doors in our room weren’t able to close, and we stumbled upon quite a few bugs in our room. I’m sure this is because we stayed in the hot, humid summer. Excellent Stay at a Beautiful Inn

The Hillbrook Inn is a historic and beautiful place in a quiet setting. As per email instructions, I called in advance to warn that I'd be later than check-in time. I believe I talked with an answering service or someone helping out, and they couldn't locate anyone from the staff, so I left a message. We arrived a little earlier than my estimate, though still after check-in, and needed to wait about 10 minutes or so until someone came. I wouldn't call it a problem, but you do start wondering if the message was received as you stand there waiting. Anyway, nice guy, and the check-in went smoothly. FYI... We don't need it, but no mention if anyone was available to help with bags. We stayed in the main house upstairs in The Overlook room. The room has a comfy bed with tables on each side, and a sitting area with 2 chairs and table. Nice size TV. Ceiling fan. A/C worked well. Like everything else, the bathroom is very nice, but very small with little room to move or counter space. There is a table outside the door if you need to place a few things though. The deck that overlooks the picturesque grounds has 2 built in seats. It was great sitting out in the morning with a cup of coffee made with the in-room Keurig. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. Excellent stay.

The Sunset Room in the Farmhouse was a good size and nicely decorated. A few dead stinkbugs, but hey, I might have a few in my home, too. The bed was too firm for me and I did not sleep well. The room was too warm, with no thermostat control in the room. Apparently, you need to call the Inn and they can change the temp remotely. Overall, lovely house with nice touches.

Beautiful, clean and comfortable accomodations. Very private. The breakfast was limited. The only selection was the dish being served, with no accomodations. Toast with ham, cheese sauce and mustard for breakfast, really? And a side egg with the white of the egg not even cooked. The breakfast was disappointing. On the second day my poached egg was cooked perfectly, but my husband's was too raw and inedible. Recommend giving guests some type of choice.

Wonderful July 4 getaway with baby

Our two-night stay at the Hillbrook Inn was wonderfully relaxing, comfortable, and memorable thanks to the incredible care, flexibility, and attention of its excellent staff.

We stayed at the Spring Cottage, which was perfectly sized for two adults and a baby. Due to the July heatwave, we ended up spending more time indoors than we expected, so were very appreciative of how clean it all was - and how efficiently the housekeeping staff took care of the place during our brief absences from the cottage.

While the other Inn guests were all adults, my wife and I had brought along our nine-month-old for a bit of family time and the staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. As a result, we got to enjoy truly excellent meals and wine as a couple, but also got to share in breakfast and dinner times with the little one, which made us feel like we got all the family time we could have wanted without feeling like we were inconveniencing anyone or putting people out.

The kitchen and wait staff were wonderful to us - made sure that baby always had something age-appropriate to munch on and let us sequence our meals to ensure that we were able to get baby to bed on schedule. The meals were delicious and the multi-course menu options offered excellent value and selection.

A final note is that my wife got a 90-minute deep tissue massage, which she said was the best she has ever had anywhere in the world so don't miss out on the spa!

Overall, we had a truly memorable and enjoyable experience at the Inn and would highly recommend to our friends.

Not so romantic stay

The room I thought I booked online for a romantic getaway with my husband did not look like the room assigned when we got there. First of all, at check in we were warned to “duck” so we didn’t bump our heads when going upstairs into our room. My husband and I are both on the short side but we not only had to hunch when going upstairs but we had to remain hunched to avoid bumping our heads as we moved around the room because of the slanted ceilings. Secondly, I also specifically chose a room online that was supposed to have a jetted tub. Our room had no jetted tub. When I showed the receptionist my receipt and asked her to switch rooms she blamed me for booking online and then said she could move us for fee. Finally, at bedtime as we snuggled into bed my husband was stung by a wasp that was under the sheets.

We had a nice stay here. The room was very clean and comfortable and well appointed. The young gentleman who checked us in was pleasant but not in an overly warm way. Rather to the point about the rules of the house. Breakfast is at 8:45 but please be in the main house at 8:30. Emphasis on time. Okay, got it. I’ve just driven 6 1/2 hours with 2 small kids in the rain. I’m tired and want to check in and get comfortable. Anyway, we showed up at 8:33, stressed because the server who answered the phone the next morning was quick to point out that breakfast is served at 8:30. Did I mention we were the only people staying at the Inn? Our breakfast was delicious and our server friendly and warm as was the young lady who bid us goodbye. So, we left on a good note.

Daughter's Intimate Wedding Dream Come True

We rented main Inn and Hawthorne House for our daughter's recent wedding. Everything was over the top wondereful. We came a day early and got massages the day prior to the wedding--they were wonderful. The rehersal dinner at Hawthorne house was so welcoming and relaxing. Marcy resonded to our wishes and requests with a wonderful positive attitude. She was a gentle guide when I got a little overwhelmed with some details. Beautiful Inn and Stay

We recently met friends we had not seen for nearly a year at Hillbrook Inn. We were delighted to discover this inn tucked back into the rolling hills of WV. Our rooms were in the Hawthorne House and were modern, large, and inviting. We loved the fireplace and the music that welcomed us in. The common rooms gave us lots of places to enjoy conversation with our friends and we loved fixing a snack, opening a bottle of wine, or having coffee in the kitchen.

The two course breakfast was delicious and made our taste buds stand up and take notice. We had dinner there only one evening and the 5 courses were each exceptional.

We definitely plan to return and this spot is a great mid-point to meet our friends.

Lovely inn

Hillbrook is a lovely, quaint inn about 20 minutes outside of Harper's Ferry. Great spot for a weekend getaway, with easy access to Harper's Ferry and northern Virginia vineyards. The breakfast included with the room was great, and they also provided a welcome cocktail and free smores kit for the fire pit, which were nice additions. Would recommend the spa as well.

Awesome Stay!

Storybook setting, excellent service, impeccable accommodations, and fresh, delicious, gourmet meals for her birthday. Couldn't have asked for more. We stayed three nights in the Fall Cottage, purchased one dinner and the make me her hero package - she said the flowers, chocolates, meals, and pampering at the spa made Hillbrook Inn her hero, but I may still have a little work to do.(I think she just wants to come back next year )

Perfect weekend getaway

This was a perfect, relaxing weekend getaway for my husband and I. We stayed in the East Suite at the Hawthorn House which was super cozy & beautiful. The food at the main house was phenomenal & unique. Some of the best food I've ever had. And we also enjoyed a spa treatment which I would recommend doing something in the spa while your visiting so you get the whole feel for the place. Friendly and helpful staff, everything was well kept & clean. Overall GREAT trip. Highly recommend. (Side note: best for couples rather than families or big groups. It's a nice quiet, romantic place).

Hillbrook Stay - Lisa & Bryon

My husband Bryon and I celebrated Our 17th Wedding Anniversary at Hillbrook Inn & Spa. The setting was beautiful and romantic. The staff was very professional and courteous. Breakfast was delicious, they fixed my favorite French Toast with blueberries. The massages at the Spa were our favorite part of the stay, the two Debbie's did an excellent job, the massages were incredible, my husband and I were very satisfied, it was a beautiful and very relaxing atmosphere, they were very professional and made us feel very welcomed. We stayed in the Overlook Room, located in the attic, so the walls were slanted, the room was nice, the bed was comfortable, we watched movies on the Ipad that was provided, but the entrance to the room was extremely narrow, about 6 inches at the top, it had a closed in Alice in Wonderland feel to it. we had to duck our heads to enter and exit, my husband bumped his head on the wall when entering, we will try a different property if we stay again. We will recommend Hillbrook Inn and Spa to family and friends.

Great stay!

The only thing that was difficult was no local food options. We're used to having good within walking distance, not driving 15 minutes!

The gourmet breakfast and dinner were amazing and I like the snacks available but it would also be great to have salads and sandwiches or something simple to make more of a meal during the day.

It would also be great of the exercise room had some weights.

Wonderful relaxing getaway

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Hillbrook Inn and Spa. We stayed in the Fall Cottage which was spacious and comfortable. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast was tasty and they accommodated our dietary needs. We both got massages in the spa which were great and very professional. I highly recommend this Inn.

Relaxing stay close to Harper's Ferry

It's a lovely quiet place for a couples getaway. The meals were delightful. The beds were extremely comfy and we slept very well. The breakfast each morning was varied and inventive. We would certainly return.

AMAZING Getaway!

I surprised my girlfriend and it was the perfect getaway. The room was great and the breakfast was OUTSTANDING. She was also a vegetarian and they made sure accommodate her diet. If you're looking for a beautiful secluded place for a getaway, this is it!

Way Over Priced

We reserved a room for approx $170 per night. When we arrived we were told that our room was unavailable due to the A/C having crashed and that we have been upgraded to the cottage residence.. The cottage is actually a four unit cottage with each unit being smaller than a Choice Suites unit we stayed in Uniontown PA.
As I have received my bill from my credit card company our bill for a one night stay was approx. $240 Ouch!!!

OUTSTANDING is all that is needed

My Wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in the Winter Cottage and had an exceptional experience. The room was spotless and comfortable. If any complaint at all was water pressure was a bit low but would not stop me recommending this place.

The Breakfast was outstanding each morning and the service across the board was outstanding.

Wonderful Getaway near DC

Beautiful accomodations and fine dining ... we enjoyed a relaxing mini-vacation just over an hour from DC. Near Harpers Ferry and historic Charles Town, but away from it all. Dinner was incredible and breakfast was delicious. Our room in the Hawthorne House was comfortable and beautifully furnished. Only complaints were that the keypad entrances are fussy and we had some issues but when we used our cell phones to call for help, the problem got resolved quickly. Also the bed was a bit squeaky when you sit on it and you can sometimes hear your neighbors.

Anniversary Getaway

Our stay at the Hillbrook was lovely. A little disappointed as far as having access to snacks and coffee especially. We arrived Saturday and left Monday. Our house had one kitchen that every guest staying in had access to. It would have been nicer to have your own coffee pot in your room. There was no regular coffee, only decaf! Our dinner Sunday night was lovely. However my husband got impatient with the long wait. I would still recommend to someone!

Loved the five course dinner! We stayed at one of the farmhouses which was about two mile from the min property. It was ok. Would have preferred to stay at the Inn, itself. But we would stay there again and next time ask for the Inn.

Much needed Peace and Quiet

Just spent an amazing and wonderful weekend with my girlfriend at Hillbrook. We were both looking to get away from the traffic and noise of the DC area and found the serenity we were looking for at Hillbrook. Not only was there peace and quiet but the grounds are gorgeous, the inn itself is set way back off of any road, there are ponds, beautiful trees and flowers all around. And I haven't even mentioned the Inn itself, the comfortable room and the amazing meals. Breakfasts were awesome and the 5 course dinner we chose to indulge in was worth every calorie. Give yourself a much needed respite and head to Hillbrook.

Girlfriends vacation

The Farmhouse Suite and location was great, clean and comfy beds. Lots of other little details lacking. Yard needed attention, fruit left that charged 25.00 for extras was rotten/moldy. The room had extra bed, set up for more than two people charged an extra person fee. Also room doubled in price for an extra night I added later that wasn't informed of would not have paid that much if had been. Spa for what you pay for treatment was just ordinary could go to a salon to same services nothing special. Probably would not go back here.

Wonderful getaway

I purchased a one night stay through Living Social. My girlfriend and I were very pleased with Hillbrook Inn! The young lady who greeted us upon arrival was extremely welcoming and helpful. We loved the inn, our room, the grounds, the service, everything! We enjoyed a nice stroll on the beautiful grounds and relaxed for a while in the hammock. In the evening, we requested a fire in the outdoor firepit and were also provided a s'more kit. The two course breakfast in the morning was wonderful. I highly recommend Hillbrook Inn!

Lovely inn but needs just a bit more

The Hillbrook Inn is lovely and our room (a small but really nicely decorated one) was really nice. To be a exquisite visit, though, I would have liked to have seen some places to sit around the grounds - adirondack chairs, hammocks, small tables & chairs under the trees. We asked the check in person and she pointed us to a few small bistro tables in the front near the parking lot, in direct sun, not comfortable either. The balcony for our room (really just a landing) had a few built in benches, but no chairs. There are just a few things here & there that say not quite a 4 star inn. Details make a big difference. The meal was nice, but they must have been vegetable-free that evening (ha ha) because it was mostly meat/fish and the dessert was basically chocolate pudding. The breakfast was really great! I can read the other reviews and know that folks love this place, and I don't want to sound awful, but it could use just a bit of work.

Wonderful B&B for a Relaxing Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hillbrook Inn & Spa. It was such a relaxing stay. The staff did an excellent job of making our stay a pleasant one. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The property is gorgeous and wonderfully maintained. I especially enjoyed the breakfast, which was above and beyond any B&B breakfast I've ever had. It was a 2-course breakfast and all the ingredients were so fresh, even though we were there during the off season during the week. I never knew oatmeal could taste so good, but the Hillbrook Inn made me a believer! Dinner was also spectacular. Most fancy restaurants these days try to wow diners by making weird dishes with ingredients you probably couldn't even find in your local grocery store, like sweetbreads (thymus gland for those who don't know their organ meats) and foie gras. No thanks. The Redbook at Hillbrook was just high quality ingredients prepared to perfection. I was afraid that I might get something I didn't like, but everything was prepared so well, it was all delicious. Well worth the cost for the experience. If you are looking for a bit of pampering and relaxation, the Hillbrook Inn is an excellent choice. I know I will be back.
