Breakfast was lovely! Buffet and à la carte.
The room (king) was huge- really lovely. Fluffy pillows and duvet but bed not the comfiest I’ve slept on!
Unfortunately our room was not ready at check in - 4pm - and we didn’t get in until 5.30 which wasn’t ideal. The swimming pool is nice but noisy! Not the chilled vibe I was hoping for!

After paying full price for this weekend stay, we found the hotel overrun by guests (with their children and dogs) taking advantage of cheap off season dinner, bed and breakfast deals. Despite a relatively late check in time of 4pm, we and many other guests found that the rooms were not ready. As a result we could not make planned use of the facilities, and almost missed pre-booked spa treatments. Eventually gained access to our room at 6.30pm. Room was very shabby. We were kept waiting for 45 minutes to get our menus at a pre booked dinner in one of the hotel restaurants. All very disappointing and certainly not the luxury five star stay that the advertising would suggest.

Very disappointing stay. The staff member who checked us in failed to smile, our sea view room had a skip right outside the window, someone else’s food bill was put on our bill (we didn’t even visit the restaurant in question), when we brought this up at check-out we were promised this would be removed. Their food bill is still showing on my account days later and the hotel have failed to reply to my email regarding this. Hotel lacks atmosphere and having to book slots for swimming is a farce. Don’t waste your time staying here, it’s not up to standards of other 5 star hotels! The Old Course is far better!

We very much enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Fairmont in late November. Location is stunning, in close proximity to the sea and accessible coastal path. Our room was large and very comfortable and well furnished. All staff we encountered were extremely helpful, particularly Emma /Emily on reception (who dealt efficiently with a room booking discrepancy caused by Expedia) and Alex on Concierge. Breakfast buffet was excellent, with a la carte options and egg station. Swimming pool was large with a well organised booking system. The spa lived up to expectation. The golf practice facilities were very good and open to all residents. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play the golf courses on site as planned owing to the weather, but they looked scenic and well maintained. There is a regular shuttle bus service into historic St Andrews town, which is a few miles away. Would definitely stay there again.

Room was fantastic as usual but unfortunately the on site Italian restaurant is lacking on portion size and is reasonably the only option unless you want to eat at the bar or in your room.
The spa very few towels available and it was a rush of people to get one once they restocked them 6 at a time.
Stayed last year and the ground floor restaurant was amazing but this now only serves breakfast and lunch, a bizarre decision. The sports bar looks quite run down now.
The overall options for a someone not drinking alcohol were very small, pretty much fizzy drinks.
Staff in the bar weren't entirely welcoming and pretty much ignored everyone.

Spa - could not believe for a 5 star hotel that you had to book a slot to use pool and spa! Given a 45 minute slot but no monitoring of that once in. Changing rooms were not great, dirty towels lying everywhere, lockers old and several not working. Facilities themselves were poor. Steam room appeared to have mold on tiles and steam coming out of a pipe in the wall with no cover over it or warnings beside it - dangerous.
Room was of a good standard, all main surfaces were clean however, the surfaces not so obvious were not clean or dusted - table lamps, top of bed head etc.
Staff - were all lovely and very polite.
Food - was pretty poor. Breakfast - eggs not cooked through, pancakes stone cold, tea cold, 2nd pot far too strong even for me, 3rd pot too strong again, so gave up on that. Dinner in bar - fish & chips were not good, chunky chips slightly hard and fish was soggy.

Not somewhere I would return to or recommend.

Bar prices a bit high but as expected for 5 star rating.
Lovely comfortable room upgraded to sea view which was nice. Problem trying to turn down the room thermostat, fortunately we could open the window.

We love the Fairmont. It is our favourite hotel in Scotland however the standard of the breakfast available has reduced over the last few years.
It is still a lovely spread but when you set the bar high and it then drops you know it can be better. Simply put the fruit on offer at a 5 star hotel for breakfast is not good enough. No berries, kiwi or other fresh fruit that is normally available at other hotels of similar standard. Only melon and orange and apple slices available this morning

The shower in the men’s spa area was so full of mold, and it was very dirty. Our bathroom in our room had a tile that was completely lifted probably because of water getting in the massage that my husband had he had mentioned to the service provider numerous times that he did not want anything but his back and shoulder massaged and she did what she wanted to do and didn’t listen to him so thank God we had 20% off the service. The food was great. The people you have working in your bar area are young and inexperienced and you could tell they weren’t very accommodating and somewhat dismissive but everything else was great.

Had to request housekeeping twice, once at 4.20pm, then again at 5.50pm as rooom hadn’t been serviced, also had to request more tea/coffee items as this hadn’t been replenished either.
As this was October week the hotel was very busy and we couldn’t get a table for bar service, although the hotel did suggest making reservations at the time of booking , we just didn’t know it was October week.

The restaurants in the hotel look primarily to an internal patio that has no Ocean views. Notwithstanding that the site where the hotels sits in has a wonderful Ocean view. A great view was wasted by the architect that designed the hotel.

Whilst a very popular hotel for keen golfers, for a couple looking for a more luxurious stay for both birthdays we were quite disappointed.
This was due to various reasons.
Firstly the room had air con but appeared to have been switched off completely so couldn’t use.
The welcome package we were meant to get due to an error in our booking was 6 chocolates… which isn’t exactly overly special for my partners 40th.
The hotel is exceptionally overpriced for the quality. The rooms are fine but nowhere near over £400 for what we received for one night. Whilst it included breakfast, the hotel was slightly dated, especially from the exterior and in the rooms - would have expected much more.
Also, we ate at the clubhouse bar and grill and were disappointed in the food. Whilst our lobster and goats cheese starters were lovely, the lemon sole I ordered came with the bones still intact. Whilst this is usual for other places, it doesn’t state it on the menu and I was never informed it would be the case by the waiter. In addition, I wasn’t provided with a fish knife to descale, so would have thought otherwise. I asked for it to be descaled and it came back mostly bone free, but still had to pick out bones from my mouth.
The sides were also disappointing- 3 carrots for £7 and a handful of chips for £7, considering the lemon sole came with nothing and the peppercorn sauce was an extra for the fillet steak.
Overall, I would not rush back in a hurry.

Amazing hotel, avoid the Italian restaurant

I stay at the Fairmont frequently and it’s the second time this month, the whole hotel is 10/10 couldn’t rate the hotel or staff higher, especially the hotel bar staff!. However it was my first time eating in the Italian restaurant and I couldn’t rate it lower, the service was shocking, I had to eventually request my main meals after over an hour as my son was getting tired, could see others unhappy and complaining. Food wasn’t good! I did mention when paying but the girl couldn’t have cared less, very much that’s a shame, sign her please. It massively let the hotel down as it’s somewhere I love going and have multiple other stays planned for the year. Stay clear of the restaurant!

Didn't even attempt to find the sauna it was so dirty in the locker room which was very unlike other Fairmonts i’ve stayed at.

Family stay for long weekend. Been many times over the years. Location is super. Having stayed at many competitor hotels such as Cromlix & Cameron House Hotel the attention to detail and service quality is not as good at Fairmont. Dining experiences are also not as good.

We got a studio room and as soon as we walked in we spotted the sofa was covered in dog hair. Unbelievable
The porter went and got a cleaner who hoovered it then we were asked to vacate the room while they had another go at cleaning on our time. We got one free drink each for this. I did ask to move rooms but no.
I struggle to understand if these rooms are cleaned properly between customers how was this missed? It was covered in dog hair not just a few bits

Hotel was lovely and staff were amazing. Only thing was when we went to our room and opened the fridge to pop some drinks in, it hadn’t been cleaned from whoever was in the night before. There was still a cake lying on the fridge and it had began to go off and go into the rest of the items in the mini bar :( and some of the milk had been used from the previous people - so we had to ask for the fridge to be cleaned and then restocked. Think this should have been done prior to us checking in!

A lovely room but not the 5 star we expected, pillows were awful, aircon noisy, had to ask for refreshing of the shower gel. Mud not hoovered up etc
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and attentive service.
The bar in the evening was packed and it was slow service and sometimes difficult to get a space.
La Cucina wasn't anything special and overpriced for what it is, much better restaurants in St Andrews.
The spa is nice but with lots of families with children wasn't relaxing and difficult to swim.
The shuttle service is helpful but often fills up in advance with only 8 seats and stops at 6pm, a taxi back from St Andrews costs about £10-£12.

There for a romantic stay and the hotel was beautiful, especially with all their stunning Christmas decorations. Service was absolutely first class: friendly, helpful, warm, welcoming and just made us feel special and pampered. Yes it’s a hotel of the highest standards but you don’t feel in any way uncomfortable - just like a beautiful big house with lots of people looking after you for two days. Huge credit to management and more importantly the staff.

Overall, High standards and friendly service. Would definitely return.
Only couple of issues we had was it was very difficult to find a parking space on arrival due to the busyness of the hotel and very slow service at reception checking in which meant significant time standing in a queue. One of the most disappointing points, which I did not expect from such a high class hotel, was when our beds were made on the second day, the sheets were neatly folded but the pillows were left as we had slept on them- not plumped to neatened. Did not look good when we arrived back to our room.

High end property near St Andrews with two golf courses. Pro shop and restaurant with great view of the town of St. Andrews and coast line. Rooms were large size and breakfast buffet included in room price was very good. Also had sports bar with golf simulator and nice spa facilities.

Choosing this hotel was the best decision I made when booking my family vacation in Scotland. The property is stunning, spacious and beautifully decorated. The pool area is perfect. The staff so accommodating and the shuttle go and from town works perfectly. We did not golf but if we did the stay there seems that it would be even better. An overall 10!!!!
