We stayed for weekend friday to sunday. The Hotel is a traditional scottish village hotel doubling as village pub, with an old fashioned layout including a seperate entrance for the bar. So to use the bar you actually leave the hotel and re enter the bar. Some will find that quaint and charming
The room was comfortable, clean and warm and everything worked. Breakfast was excellent and service was attentive.
This is a small village hotel not a chain. Service reflected that, nice and attentive but not as many amenities.
We enjoyed our stay

Lovely stay in a nice room with en-suite, loved the old furniture and beautiful bathroom fittings. Staff lovely, continental breakfast with lots of choice.
Parking is free, and although it is a very small village it was nice to walk around and the villagers were friendly too.

I was through for work, staying two nights. I booked a single ensuite room. It was basic but comfortable. I ate dinner in the hotel the first night which was tasty and reasonably priced; breakfast both days were continental and had a good range of options. Service was friendly.

Tweeddale Arms Hotel

Stayed for one night, before attending a christening the following day. Were pleasant when we checked in, though there was no offer to help with our bags, ( my husband has only one leg, and uses crutches), although there were quite a number of stairs to negotiate to reach our room.
The room was comfortable and clean with a pleasant view overlooking the garden. The bathroom was compact but adequate, though I should say that a grab handle for the bath/shower would be very useful for the disabled, aswell as those over a certain age!
Breakfast was served from 8am-10am, and was of the continental variety, which was fine for us, though it would have been nice to have the choice of some scrambled eggs etc.
I should also point out that the Tweeddale Arms Hotel is actually in Gifford, not Haddington, though it's only about a seven minute drive away, which isn't a problem with such lovely scenery to see along the way.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating, from my phone call to let them know that I might not arrive until 10pm to the welcome I received when I managed to be a bit earlier. The locals were very friendly showing how popular the bar was! The bed was comfortable and breakfast (continental) had a wide range of choices. If ever I come this way again I would stay here again.

Stay was really good, staff were really lovely, bed was comfy! I just have one slight complain that the entire room smelled very heavily of bleach. We had to open the window and air it out, so it wouldn’t be too overpowering during the night.

The staff at the desk were acceptably cordial but did not make much effort to be informative. We returned for dinner and 2 of the five items on the mains menu were not available. We ended up eating elsewhere. The rooms are very dated but comfortable, but ll the floors squeak horribly which is part of the quirky things you could expect. We would set it stay here again.

Quaint pub hotel with a tun of character. Twenty miles from the centre of Edinburgh, I was on a cycling weekend, and found the location perfect. I particularly enjoyed the coastal ride from Edinburgh to Berwick. Evening meals at the hotel were very generous portions.

A little bit of paradise, a short drive from the crowds enjoying Edinburgh over the summer break. Everything about this hotel and the village says come back and stay a little longer… with retirement nearing, that may indeed be the case. The staff were helpful, the food good and the spaces just delightful, all set with the perfect image of an English Village. If you want to unwind, and don’t mind the 22 miles back to Edinburgh then I can only say enjoy… I certainly did!

Beautiful hotel, alas cooked breakfast we paid for turned out to be a continental breakfast because lack of staffing but we was not informed beforehand.
Neither was other guests.

Please please be very aware of the slabs outside the hotel door, as not secure and extremely wobbly, hence I tripped, sprained my ankle and damaged my opposite knee.
Staff not bothered and no help given.

Evening meal that we paid for separately was yummy.

Parking on road was not highlighted but they did allow the motorbike to be stored in alley way, as bins out for collection after we complained.

Some staff could do with a wee bit of hospitality training.
All in all ok stay but we will not ever go back.

Nice quiet Hotel in Gifford.

The Tweeddale is a very old Hotel but it adds to the charm of the place. It's set in a nice quiet picturesque little village that hasn't changed over the years. It's only 4 and a half miles from Haddington and it's also not far from the beautiful lammermuir Hills if your heading towards Duns in the border region.

Hotel is lovely although it looks a little shabby in places. Our room was excellent - lovely furnishings and very comfortable bed. Disappointed to find on arrival that the restaurant was closed due to staff shortages, but a friendly local couple recommended the Waterside Bistro in Haddington which was fantastic.

Upon arrival, I was made very welcome. I was surprised to learn I could have a cooked breakfast, I’d thought for the money it would be continental. I was able to have an evening meal, which was lovely, the garlic bread - yum!
The room itself was ideal, cozy, clean, everything I needed. I slept like a log. In the morning, the staff were equally as welcoming and chatty. I would say this is a hidden gem and I look forward to returning.

Hotel and staff were very good. Breakfast was really good. Room was a little dated especially the bathroom where the shower pole was broken but still worked ok. It advertises that lunch is served on Fridays but RHW couldn’t get a chef, so we tried hotel up the road and that was closed all together. So we had to drive 4 or so miles to find somewhere to eat. Restaurant was open in the evening and the food was again really good. Would definitely stay there again when in the area.

Amazing value for money! The downstairs is a lovely old-style hotel with a cosy bar and coffee room. Rooms are nice, a bit too much furniture which makes it hard to get around. Bathroom tired but clean and functional. Great breakfast and lovely staff! Would reccomend.

A nice hotel in a quiet village, this property offered a a perfect position to stay for a night when passing through the area. Booking in was a little confusing as there isn't a reception as such you just head for the bar and wait for someone to come. The room was a nice size, well maintained and the furniture, though old fashioned, was in keeping with the building and was good quality. The breakfast was very nice and the service excellent. It's a pity that the evening staff don't take lessons. We ordered an evening meal and settled down to enjoy three courses, a treat for us. First course and mains were lovely, well cooked and presented, though they had just sold out of my first choice of mains. As the waitress cleared away we were told that the chef had gone home and if we wanted dessert we could have ice cream. It was not as if it was late as it was 8.45pm. They could have told us earlier and we would have picked our option which could have been left in the kitchen for us. But no, he'd gone and dessert was off the menu. Bit of a let down. And no real apology.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. Gifford as a community is a nice place to be. If you wish to sit and share with others inside or outside, if you wish to have your meal takeaway and eat up in your room it really is up to you. This is the second time I have stayed. A good price for an ensuite room and breakfast the next day. I will be back.

I had a very very enjoyable stay, there is nothing I can fault at the hotel even if I tried, with it's very friendly & helpful staff & neighbor's who helped me into the town of Haddington & assisted me back to Clifford (in the evening) which is about 4 miles away from Haddington & where the hotel is based thus stating that the hotel is in Haddington, when it is in Clifford is misleading & I leant Clifford is up to twenty miles at least from Edinburgh.

I had a wonderful stay. It was clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful people providing service. And it is located in a lovely little town that was a pleasure to walk around in. I had booked it because I was visiting Edinburgh not realizing that it was not super close to the city but that was my mistake for not noticing that while booking. However, I found it a very easy to catch a bus from Gifford to Haddington and then to Edinburgh. And it was a very pleasant ride. Highly reccommend.

Staff were brilliant - really friendly and looked after you. Breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh, no keeping warm like many chains.
The only negative was a problem with the lock on my room which was faulty and didn't lock easily but staff went out of their way to make sure I had help when needed.

Fabulous food, lovely convenient village location

Food was superb every day and we stayed for 5 days. Pub was being decorated so unfair to comment on general areas. Property is listed and we understand the restrictions imposed on any changes. Quirky residents lounge with a wealth of historical furniture and decorative items. Very nice traditional bar where the locals meet up. Great location in a lovely little village which retains its original centre

Room was number 14 called a 'comfort room'. We didn't consider it a comfort to hear the kitchen fan come on for breakfast around 6.30am until the last order for dinner around 8.30-9.00pm. Room was very tired and a little shabby. Bathroom was worse, with bath that had seen better days and a really cramped washbasin where you had to shut the door to get to it. We asked on registration if we could change rooms but were told there were no other rooms available.
