Our family kg 4 had a wonderful stay and we were delightfully surprised by the friendliness and fun activities we found during our overnight. The pool was fine if not a bit chilly but was offset by the warm hot tub. We enjoyed getting dinner in the Curling Club’s bar and kids had fun watching a match! Breakfast was good, cold buffet was maybe a little basic but the hot to-order items made up for it and the staff were kind and helpful.
Our room had just been renovated and was perfect for our family and pet. There were thoughtful extras like bath robes and slippers and 2 tvs!
The only downside was the shower in our room had such low pressure (barely a stream!) and was cold so I could only opt for a bath. Luckily the kids and my husband had showered at the pool. For one night it was fine but maybe wouldn’t want to be stuck without a shower for more than that.
Other than the shower everything else was great.

I had specifically booked a room that catered for my disabled husband with additional mobility issues. As the lift was broken & he couldn't use the stairs, we were given what they said was the only alternative room. It had a fixed shower over a bath, both of which he couldn't use for health & safety reasons. It was suggested he use the Gents' Changing Rooms for the pool!!!! As a male only facility I wouldn't be able to supervise or assist him .... totally unacceptable.
We've stayed here several times as it is convenient for the ferries & the beds are comfortable and the breakfast excellent, however, we will look for somewhere different in the future. A phone call earlier in the day would have given us the opportunity to look for alternative accommodation.
Totally disregarded my husband's needs.

Delightful hotel. Very clean and wonderful staff. It's not the most modern decor but that's part of the charm. It has an honest vintage interior but it's been well maintained. The swimming pool, spa pool and sauna were great and very quiet. The games room was a lot of fun. We were really impressed and would visit again.

The room was a good size and we were lucky to be facing the loch. Looked to be have been updated recently.

All the staff were excellent, especially in the restaurant.

I would suggest you have a look at the water pressure for the showers though.

I'd look to stay again if I was heading to Stranraer

The room was clean, well appointed, spacious, comfortably warm and quiet. I was very happy with it. My evening dinner included vegetable soup and steak pie, both of which were tasty and nicely hot when served. Morning breakfast options were plentiful and hot food was tasty, well prepared and served promptly. Reception and dining room staff were considerate, polite and keen to assist as necessary. This hotel may be a little aged but but it is well appointed and has plenty of character and atmosphere that others of its generation and newer lack. In short, it ticked all my boxes.

We are so glad that we stayed in this gem of a hotel. It was such a special experience. The pool and sauna are nice to relax in after a day of travel. The dinner is 5 star and the view over the bay in the morning is priceless.

We were very pleased to know that the hotel was in the middle of a total refubishment of the bedrooms . It is needed.
Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was disappointing - it flattered to deceive. Continental had poor choice and cooked was not great. Staff, tho, did their best and the breakfast room was beautifully laid out.

Lovely hotel in a prefect location

We had a lovely 3 night stay whilst attending the nearby Oyster Festival. The hotel is perfectly located close to the town. The staff were just fantastic. Very friendly and welcoming. As for the hotel itself, it is a little dated, but some refurbishment work was underway during our stay. It was very clean too. As for the breakfast, it was just wonderful. All freshly cooked and served piping hot.

Unusual building in a good location

Interesting building resembling a castle located right on the harbour front. Petrol station and supermarket nearby.
The reception staff were friendly, and the bar and restaurant staff were the right level of attentive.
I didn't have chance to use the gym or pool.

Smell of damp hits you the second you go through the front doors.

The family suites was a weird corridor like room with 4 single beds in it.

Water damaged hard wood furniture that looks like it was salvaged from a chairty shop.

A bathroom that made sense in your grandmothers council house. And im general everything from the in room phones to the elevator look like they were \"modern\" in 1972

Overall the stay was average.
Sitting in the ross suite the chairs were very poor no cushioning.
Not enough bar staff on especially as there was a wedding party
Rooms need a bit of an upgrade.
Never slept very well as room next door were having a party at 12 midnight.wwnt in for hours.
Breakfast ,we had full breakfast it was very dry ,maybe adding beans would make it better. Poached eggs were hard asked for runny.
Dinner at night was good.

I saw the hotel sign at the road to the complex of buildings but there is no hotel sign at the lobby entrance door … only 2 brass signs that say Rotary Club. So, I passed by the entrance twice and walked all around the buildings looking for an entrance. With service vehicles parked on the grounds, it didn’t look like a hotel but more like a service business. I had to triple check my GPS directions and walk around with my heavy bags before I finally went thru the Rotary Club entrance to ask for help. The lady inside informed me that I was, in fact, at the reception desk and that the Rotary Club only meets there. I said that the hotel should have a sign with its name near the entrance door to help guests find it and she said something like, “we’re usually pretty busy so people seem to find it just fine”. If were the owner, I’d put a nice looking sign at the entrance door.
The room was spacious and looked out towards the sea and train station next to it. But, with no air conditioning, the room was stuffy and too warm … and the window had been restricted to allow it to be opened only 2 or 3 inches … and that wasn’t enough to cool the room or exchange it with outside air. I could sleep in that warm stale air so I called the front desk and asked for a fan. Luckily, they brought me a fan and I was able to get to sleep.
The breakfast was very good and the staff serving it were excellent!

The North West Castle is a lovely, relaxing old style hotel that reminds you what hotels should be like and puts the factory hotels to shame. The building is interesting, in the style of a castle, a little quirky with tons of history. Above all it invites you to relax and enjoy your stay. We came to Stranraer for just one night, and this hotel was our pick. On arrival, it genuinely looked like a quaint little castle - even more charming than the pictures suggested. Our room exceeded expectations, complete with a lovely view over what I think was the Stranraer port or perhaps the sea.

The amenities were far more than we expected: a fun game room, a pool, a gym, plenty to keep you entertained. I actually found myself regretting that we were only staying for one night. The hotel seems to be a hub for special occasions like wedding receptions; during our stay, there was a wedding anniversary being celebrated. While you could hear the festivities from certain areas, it was never loud enough to disturb us in our room.

Convenience was another plus, there's a Greggs right next door for a quick coffee and sausage roll in the morning. Parking is plentiful in the hotel, too.

For me, the highlight was the bar lounge area. We stayed there until midnight, enjoying great drinks and great service from the friendly bartenders.

All in all, this hotel was a delightful find that I would highly recommend if you find yourself in Stranraer!

Breakfast poor - half rasher of bacon, 1 very small sausage,1 potato scone, half fried tomato and a boiled egg was my choice (although you could have the addition of haggis and black pudding) a very meager breakfast. Also Alpen stated on Menu was not offered, no alternative to butter on display - had to request alternative. Overall not a very good selection and set up.

My family stayed here for 1 night only (2 children and 2 adults) Thankfully. On arrival the hotel looks quite grand. Ladies at reception were lovely. However, got to the room - very dated, dusty and wallpaper coming away from the walls.

It gets worse. Following day we use the swimming pool. To find the place filthy. Dirt and mould in the changing rooms to the point I didnt want to walk bare foot. Mould all along the side of the swimming pool and foam matts beside swimming pool all mouldy and dirty. Swimming pool area looks like it’s used as a dumping ground, ladders, wheel barrows lying around and furniture dumped in no particular order.

Absolutely appalling charging people good money to stay here. I paid £80/£90 for an overnight and can’t believe the state of the place. Only managed 1 photo

A beautifully maintained Victorian hotel (we stayed in the older part). Lovely lounge and pub. The room was very clean and spacious. The town has loads of restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel and views of the loch are spectacular. Highly recommended!

A dreadful bed but great breakfast

We stayed in a room in the 'new' part. The bed was dreadful which resulted in little sleep. There was no sound proofing in the 'new' area as we constantly heard people talking in the corridor and the banging of doors until around 1am as well as a droning noise like an extractor running all night.

The breakfast was fantastic, all freshly cooked to order which makes such a difference.

The staff were all extremely polite and customer focused and we made use of the leisure facilities which were a bit tired and could do with some updating, especially the showers in the ladies changing area with poor water pressure. A drying machine would certainly benefit the area to take the moisture from swimming costumes too.

Overall an okay stay.

We spend one night in the hotel as we were booked on an early ferry. We booked a family room and this was located in the lodge at the back of the hotel. It had a small car park outside the lodge which was handy. The room was split into two sleeping areas which was a nice surprise. The rooms are very dates and rundown and in need of upgrade. The staff I met were very friendly and helpful.
