For what we thought was an exorbitant cost the room was tiny and quite dated. The shower was a nightmare to get going and then took a great deal of effort to shut down when finished. No fridge. No Microwave. Scrambled eggs in the morning looked like porridge and in truth not much different in taste.

Could be a lot better

Where do I start? Toilet seat loose, extractor fan didn't work, grout missing from floor tiles, badly fitted ensuite door, with an inch gap. Buffet style breakfast, no baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes. Just bacon, sausage, hard poached egg and DIY toast. A good clean, lick of paint, some maintenance, and a better breakfast and this could be a nice place to stay.

Overall good

Friendly staff, room was fine, breakfast was ok, it seemed like it had been kept warm rather than cooked fresh when we got to breakfast but it was ok. Otherwise the hotel had a nice atmosphere and honesty ‘record what you’ve drunk’ bar and pay when checking out, with a lounge area, which was a good option if you didn’t want to go out.

View was lovely as was the breakfast and service at breakfast. Unfortunately our welcome to the hotel was less than warm - it felt officious and as if we were being processed. When we asked whether they had a lift for our heavy bags (one of us was pregnant and another guest aged 70) it was a flat 'No'. No suggested alternative or help to carry. Luckily a friendly guest gave us a hand up the stairs! When we asked about possible places to eat in the evening they simply told us we should have responded to an email they sent us to book a table in their sister hotel. No other recommendations, just simply indicating we'd find it hard to find anywhere. Later that evening as we were passing reception on the way to hunt down some dinner, they pointed out we hadn't yet submitted our breakfast form to them (no time for pleasantries). It was a shame as the rest of the experience was broadly positive with a good honesty policy at the bar and friendly fellow guests.

Recent stay

We were allocated an outside room. The path was not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The outside was very neglected with weeds growing every where. The furnishings in the room were old and tired. The bed was comfortable although it was two singles pushed together and two single quilts. Towels were small and very washed out and thin. No biscuits on the tea making tray. Staff seemed very rushed and seemed a bit abrupt. The breakfast has to be ordered the night before which is ok but unusual given the size of the place. Food was average and portions very small. We had finished out cooked part by the time the toast finally arrived. Tea and coffee is self service. Orange juice and cereal and milk is on your table waiting for you giving the feeling its rationed. There was rubish lying about outside. Overall it was poor for the price.

Would not recommend, go somewhere else

Hotel was old and filled with bugs due to windows being left open everywhere. Room was very small and uncomfortable with doors not shutting properly.

My girlfriend and I brought a takeaway to the dining area and asked for cutlery to be told they have a \"no takeout\" policy and when I asked where I could eat they told me outside and at the time it was pouring with rain. The women was very rude about it and the policy is absolutely absurd to have. Why have a dining area and not be aloud to eat food there?

Breakfast was alright although they got our order wrong despite having a sheet of paper we filled out telling them what we wanted.

Overall a very poor stay.

Staff very friendly and helpful. They seem to be a hardworking bunch of people as there didn't seem to many of them.

Really, you get what you pay for here as our room was inexpensive for a family of 5. Accommodation a bit tired and could have been cleaner, carpets in our room hadn't been hoovered properly. The family room we had was a generous size but the furniture was old and could do with replacement. The bunk beds were bit creaky and we were concerned about their stability.

Breakfast cooked to order and efficient but the quality of the food was poor, linked to the price of the accommodation.

We only stayed 2 nights but it is located on a stunning part of the coastline and Lochgair itself is an excellent place to stay to tour this area.

Average

Compared to our other stays around the North Coast 500 route this hotel is very average for the price. Primarily due to C19 restrictions, service is minimal and the hotel is very tired although comfortable. Unable to book dinner at the sister establishmnet (we were warned in advance) we had to seek an alternative around the Loch. To be honest, if breakfast was a reflection on what dinner would have been then they did us a favour!

Only stayed 1 night

The staff were extra helpful and very pleasing to deal with. The breakfast was very good. The Hotel is in need of some TLC, but is coping very well with Covid restrictions imposed on all hotels. Evening meals are limited in the area so eat before you arrive, bring food with you or take a chance on the very few eateries in the area. If you can book a restaurant in advance then that is advisable. However, I went to the local fish & chip shop and after queueing for 45 minutes, it was well worth the wait for some of the nicest F&C's I have had in a long time.

Tour of the Highlands

The room was not really satisfactory considering the cost. The owners need to put in some investment to justify their charges.
The double bed was small and uncomfortable.
The decor was very tired and seventies vintage.
The shower was poor and luke warm.
The doors had no damping and every time a resident exited their room, the door slammed very loudly.
