Excellent location, the shower in the quad room was tricky as limited hot water then you have to wait to heat but was fine for us as we stayed as a family of 5 for 1 night. The breakfast was lovely along with the views and the staff were so friendly and willing to help you. Would stay again

Very strange experience. Be aware.

I booked to stay at City View Hotel. When I arrived they put me on the phone with the reception. The person on the other end told me that my room was in another building of the hotel which is 2 minutes walk down the road. He said someone would accompany me there. We walked to the building, and to my surprise it was a completely different hotel: called Amin Hotel. I didn't book at Amin Hotel and told the guy at the reception. He wasn't concerned nor did he understand my concern. I told him it's not right to move guests between hotels like that which he didn't seem to understand. If I was a woman, I would not have accepted being moved between hotels as it is potentially dangerous situation. When I Google Amin Hotel it comes up as a completely separate hotel, with poor reviews. It is a 1 star hotel, but the City View Hotel (which I made my reservation) is a 3 star hotel. The room was basic and small, but fine. The shower didn't have a door or screen, so when you shower water goes everywhere and then you have to clean it up or risk slipping and breaking your leg. The TV didn't work. The breakfast was terrible. There was nobody who spoke English so nothing was clear or communicable. The food offered was stale and of awful quality. You don't get to choose what to eat, but rather get given a few pre-selected things. There was no fruit, no yogurt, no juice. I pre-paid the hotel US$15 for a taxi to take me to the airport at 4am on Monday, but when I went down my taxi was not there.

The City View Hotel was a safe and convenient place to stay while I was in Cairo. It is centrally located. The food, I thought was mediocre. There were a lot of packaged items for breakfast and the restaurant served meals that were adequate but the quality wasn’t that great. I think if the hotel wanted to improve it should revamp the entire kitchen in terms of what is available for breakfast and the quality of their food, in comparison to better restaurants and types of cooking. Also more variety of choices for meals would have been nice. The one shining star for me was Hassan, who arranged my travel for the entire country. He listened to and took in my preferences, my limitations, and my sensibilities. He listened in a way that supported me as a person and as a unique traveler with unique needs and wishes. I felt deeply seen and heard, and the conversations we had were very affirming, meaningful, and helped me understand how to navigate the country in a way I couldn’t have known or done on my own. All the arrangements for drivers and guides were punctual, and professional, as well as friendly and positive. I encourage anyone staying at the City Hotel to ask for Hassan to help them plan their trip in the way best for them. Thank you, Hassan!

I have stayed here many times and that is why I come back.

The staff are good especially Hany the day time Manager and the lovely chef.

I was in touch before I arrived with the hotel driver via WhatsApp.

I sent him my flight details etc. He assured me that the hotel car would meet me at the airport.
He did not show up and he didn't answer my WhatsApp message.

Not a great start, I was disappointed as it was supposed to be a free shuttle for a three night stay. I had to make other arrangements late at night after thirty hours of travel.

I also asked for a double bed and overlooking Tahrir Square. I received a room overlooking the gas station and a room with two single beds.

Slightly disappointed with this stay.

We are disappointed with our experience at City View Hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, they said they were overbooked and didn’t have room for us, even though we had a confirmation from Expedia and had booked our room over a month in advance. That was not a fun thing to hear after a long, tiring day of traveling. We ended up having to walk to another hotel with all of our luggage. There was no warning from them before we got there to check in - they could have at least messaged us so we could have taken our taxi to the other hotel instead of having to walk. Also, the airport shuttle is NOT free, as Expedia advertised. It is 500 LE one way.

Didn't like the traffic and music noise every night, but was so tired from sightseeing, was able to sleep regardless. Didn't like the daily 2 hour power outs, but that wasn't something the hotel had control over.
Overall a good value for the money.

Overall this was a great, budget friendly, hotel. Pick up from the airport was only $15 USD which was reasonable if you didn’t want to deal with taxis. Just make sure to pick up your Vodaphone SIM card at the kiosk at the airport before you leave so you don’t have to wonder around without data looking for one. Very friendly staff and could get you some good deals for day tours. I had a standard room and it did the trick as I really only used it to sleep and store my things. Breakfast was included and is a set menu - a little bit of everything and vegetarian friendly. You’re right in the heart of Tahrir Square and across from the Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel. I felt very safe walking around and shopping / restaurants were all very walkable. If you’re not adventurous with new foods there are restaurants like McDs and KFC but if you want authentic food like Koshery there are lots of great places. There is an electronic store 6 minutes by foot that takes credit cards if you need to pick up a charging plug or cords. The Egyptian Museum is also across the street. Overall, I definitely recommend staying here.

The pickup at the airport was easy and reliable.

I had to leave at 4:30 am to catch my early morning flight. They gave me a wake-up call at 3 am, and brought me a box breakfast at 4:00, with hot coffee! The drove me to the airport at 4:30 am

The staff at City View Hotel are really friendly and incredibly helpful. When there was a small problem in our room, they did everything they could to sort it out as soon as they could - nothing was too much trouble for them. It's that personal touch that makes a good hotel stand out. And I challenge any other hotel in Cairo to have a balcony with such a brilliant setting - to eat your delicious breakfast with a view over the Egyptian Museum and the buzzing Tahrir Square below is a real treat, every morning.

Pros: It is conveniently located near the museum and lots of little shops and restaurants. It has very good air conditioning. The staff were nice enough, (side note, the seemingly nice guy in charge of the Ali Baba restaurant in the hotel didn't understand that I paid for a large bottle of water at the front desk, so he kept asking me to pay him.)

Cons: if you want a clean place with little noise disruption, skip this place entirely. Their standard for a 3 star hotel is very much equal to a 1 star. There is way too much noise from the traffic right outside the hotel if you are a light sleeper. The wifi is choppy, and the breakfast seems like they found the cheapest options to throw together to make it passable.

It worked for me because I knew it was very economically priced so I looked past all the short comings because I was invited to a wedding across the street at the Ritz Carlton (which was $300 a nite vs around $40 at CVH) and spent most of my time at the Ritz. I only went back to the city view hotel after fun crazy nights and only needed rest. So if you just need a semi clean place to rest and will enjoy the sites and everything else most of you time there, then it may be sufficient.

I was taken to another hotel without my knowledge cause my room had a problem. I would have apprechiated the heads up. Next day finally got to the hotel I booked, the room was decent size but dirty, there was no hot water (turned out I had to turn on the boiler myself), I was offered a coffee in a chipped mug and the free shuttle was not free after all. False advertizing thats all. Staff was nice but most couldnt understand me and when i told them I couldnt sleep becuause of the constant honking the answer I got was \"It's Cairo\". I couldnt even bother anymore I was too tired.

They are very accommodating. I wanted a room with a balcony and they were more than happy to help make me happy. The price is good for the area. They have a common area inside and a nice restaurant with a decent sized balcony for outside eating. It's definitely not in a quiet area. The crazy Cairo traffic is loud all day and night. I did enjoy my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

No water!

Reading through the comments again, it made me think that the tap of the first room I stayed in isn't really working. So I had to buy (yes it was not fiven for free) bottles of drinking water so I can wash my self before sleeping and leaving the first day. I was told the issue on the water was happening in all of Cairo, but I checked with the tour guide I was with for the day, and that was not true. I just hoped they could've done something about that, instead of just telling me the issue was in all of Cairo. The only reason I am not rating this as 1, is because my second night was pretty decent. Also, it seemed that their scanner and photocopy machines were not working as I had to wait for a few minutes to get my passport back. They even asked for it again, cause apparently, they were not able to copy it the first time.

The hotel has a good location, rooms are comfortable, good beds. The best part are the staff , very helpful, honest and friendly. For the guys downstairs, the concierge, the receptionist at front desk made our stay very pleasant. I felt secure and safe. It has a daily breakfast also. City view hotel is as the name suggests and no more. The hotels photos suggest the rooms are bright and clean when in fact they’re small, dirty and in need of repair. Broken taps, a safe that didn’t work, hot water that ran out, non working tv, leaky bathrooms floor, and the extremity of noise from car honking all night is enough for me to not recommend this place. Although the staff were kind, the pickup and drop off from/to the airport in someone’s dirty car, with no seatbelts and barely squeezing our luggage in was not worth it. Very disappointed.

We selected this property for the location. The rooms are basic but for the cost it was expected. We had no complaints about anything. The staff are amazing. I can't really evaluate this hotel as (which happens not infrequently) they had overbooked the hotel and the room was not available. But \"We have many City View Hotels in Cairo\" ! No, they don't but they have agreements with other small hotels in the area that can provide a room at the same rate. However, not with a 'City View'. So they agreed to cancel my reservation and I booked in at another hotel. I don't know if I should give it try next time in Cairo

This hotel is a great choice for the price. It's Close to the Egyptian museum and many restaurants, travel agencies, stores, etc. it can be a little noisy since it's a busy area. The breakfast they provide is very good. Many different sources of protein (cheese, yogurt, meet, eggs), bread, milk. The workers are very friendly. They struggle understanding English but they did above and beyond to comfort us. They provided a great service.

The building is unique and interesting. The staff is very friendly. The small restaurant had decent food and a balcony overlooking the streets below. Cons- Needs updating stat! minimal toiletries (given 3 packets of one time use shampoo; bar of soap -they tried to pass it off as new - placed in old wrapper). Floors dirty (bring slippers). Airconditioning passable - but unable to change temperature. Tv/safe didn't work. Bring ear plugs - walls thin - can hear outside car honking/etc. throughout day and night. Bathroom towel bar fell out when i pulled the towel. Limited breakfast- but enough to start your morning early.

Do you want a 5 star fancy hotel? The Nile ritz Carleton is across the street. This is a traditional Egyptian hotel with traditional Egyptian breakfast. Beds are semi-comfortable. Staff is extra humble helpful and friendly. The Egyptian breakfast is amazing with a view of the Nile River. Highly recommended if your in to experience the culture, but don’t expect super fancy.

A good priced hotel in a great location.

I went with my family to Cairo on the 2nd of August 2019 and stayed in City View Hotel for five nights. The hotel sent two cars to receive us from the airport as per their free airport pickup service. During our stay, there was a slight problem with the tap of our bathroom. They immediately provided us a new room. The hotel is in a very good location as it is only a few minutes walk to the Cairo Museum and a ten minute walk to the famous koshery, Abu Tarek. The hotel breakfast was good but could be better. The hot falafels served every morning were delicious. The hotel manager organised a city tour for us on our request, with a reasonable price. All staff including the drivers are professional and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. We highly recommend this hotel for their service and it’s location.

Great location, very friendly and helpful staff and owner and great breakfast buffet. Room and bed were good but a few mosquitos in room at night. Room noisy day and night because of location on busy road next to Tahrir Square and Egyptian museum with cars horns honking continuously If you are a light sleeper use ear plugs.

A hotel with fantastic location and service .

Stayed there for a total of 4 nights . The location is unbeatable right in the middle of downtown . The metro stop and the Egyptian museum are just a stone throw on the opposite . Breakfast included was good to start the day . And I really appreciated the free airport pick up even after midnight . The hotel crew were all helpful and very responsive . Overall , will stay at this hotel again next time when I come back to Cairo .

Might be ok for the super budget minded.

Sorry, but not sure how this super budget hotel got the rating it did. Very low end. One of our beds was missing a leg. Every time you got up it rocked. Standing water on the bathroom floor when we checked in. Staff was nice and made us a take away breakfast before we left, but didn't make up for the very low end property.

LOVE the hotel! Amazing staff. Staff was able to speak english and spanish. Marco was the one who check us in, very nice gentleman. He was able to speak in spanish, grateful for that. We had the hotel who pick us up from the airport and drop us off at the airport. I would definitely recommend it to others.

Cairo: Resting on it's Laurels for 4500 Years

The hotel is suitable enough. I had to stay in one of their sister hotels the first night for some heretofore unknown reason and the wifi became very slow at some point.However, it was clean and the staff were very nice.

The biggest complaint I've seen about the hotel is the noise of the traffic but that is an inescapable part of the city. The Ritz-Carlton, fancy though it may be, is in the same area and has the same level noise.

Would I recommend this hotel? Sure, however, this presumes I would recommend Cairo, which I would not.
The only real reason to visit Cairo is the Pyramids and that was the worst part of the trip. The scamming, hussling, and unsolicited (note-NOT free) assistance, really gets annoying and it is relentless.

Expect to be overcharged, pestered for money, and constantly lied to. If that's your idea of a good vacation then, sure, visit Cairo. Otherwise, I'd recommend most anyplace else.

I did not enjoy my time in this city but the hotel was not really the reason why.
