A long walking distance from nearby shops and restaurant. The staff did not suggest to us anything to do in the vicinity. One of the coffee cup was missing. In all, the overall stay is OK but not worthing this price level.

Disappointed with the staff

1. Check in experience was not very good. The staff named Harry was not helpful in providing concierge advice whether we could rent bicycle in Tai O center while a snake shop owner in the centre could provide me advice where to rent immediately. The hotel room rate is same as 5 star hotel and we were disappointed not to receive a 5 star hotel concierge service.
2. A few female restaurant staff were very noisy chatting among themselves while using some close to swearing words on July 24 morning. They might think that I cannot understand Cantonese as most customers there were Westerners. More intense training on staff hospitality is definitely a must.
3. Air con and dehumidifier are extremely noisy. We were attracted to Tai O because of the quietness of the village but did not expect the air con is that noisy. It is time to upgrade the air con to Daikin
4. Very good initiative to be a plastic bottle free, plastic tooth brush free hotel. However, the soap is stilled wrapped by a thin plastic which I believe cannot be recycled iN HK.
5. We did find 1-2 good staff helping us to open the room door on July 23 evening. They were 2 ladies working night shift on July 23.

best part of the stay was it felt like we werent in hong kong. the staff were very prompt when we needed something. they even gave us an extra bed for free which was very much appreciated.

food at the glasshouse was rather disappointing. but overall it was a good experience and i will recommend for people who need a getaway from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong

It was a great getaway from the bustle and bustle of the city.
The lookout restaurant was great with views of the sea. The staff are all very friendly.
I love the idea of preserving the historical building.
However our ground floor room was a bit noisy from the people in the public area outside the room.
And we could not open the curtains to maintain our privacy.
I guess the upper floor would be better.

A truly beautiful property. Unfortunately it not well run or well maintained. It feels as though they can't decide whether it's a hotel or a museum - large sections are roped off so that tourists don't go astray, but it makes for a challenging time for guests, who must navigate endless barriers. However the biggest challenge is getting to the hotel: it's a long walk from the Tai O bus terminus (more than half an hour) and there is no practical alternative. The hotel would be well advised to set in place some dependable way to get to it for people with luggage: A dedicated boat, a golf cart, something...

Our stay in this hotel was great! The beds were very comfortable! However, the ventilation in the room was quite noisy and smelt a little like some kind of spray! Had to turn off the system. Location was perfect, enabling a short walk in the village which is very nice! All in all, I would recommend staying here.

Amazing Tai O

Fantastic boutique hotel is a unique location in HK. Tai O has a long and interesting history and is a lovely peaceful part of HK.

Tai O Heritage Hotel, situated in the historic Tai O police station is special. The hotel is tastefully finished and furnished and our suite was very comfortable.

The restaurant service was friendly and the food tasty and reasonable priced given the location and other options. It is the nicest restaurant in Tai O without being over the top.

Great for a couples getaway or weekend retreat. Tai O is special and the Tai O Heritage Hotel is the icing on the cake.

The heritage building was charming and the location was relaxing. However, the Lookout restaurant has a very limited menu both food wise and drink wise. The quality of the food was sub-average considering that it is a boutique hotel with 4-5 star rating. Ingredient (shrimp paste) with food matching was poor. Hong Kong restaurants are generally good and the renown ones are particularly great; in comparison, the Lookout leaves much to be desired. The staffing attention was mostly slow and poor and on evenings brisk.
Despite these set backs, the check in and check out was quick and smooth. The quiet serenity of this hotel is its winning point.

Secluded gem away from the hustle and bustle of HK. Reception staff are very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are a good size and well equipped. Historic features make it a special property. Breakfast was good, a nice variety of things, although let them know any dietary requirements up front as there is a set dish. Dinner was not fantastic or cheap.

Overall the setting is perfect, staff are welcoming and it is great to enjoy Tai O in the evening and morning when it is quiet.

Quality hotel but a bit tricky to get to

Lovely hotel but be warned about getting there. Quite a long, windy taxi ride from the airport and then you are dropped in the carpark at the edge of the village as it is a pedestrian zone. We arrived at around 8pm, no ferry operates then to take you the shortest way to the hotel so we had to find our way on foot through the village, with cases; a 25 min walk!

Beautiful hotel overlooking the water.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We gad drinks and snacks in the restaurant and it was very good. Nice atmosphere and again helpful friendly staff.
Maybe need to advise customers how to get to the site as it is certainly a unique location and not easy to get to at first visit. Once you are there it is well worth it.

Too expensive for our experince

It was supposed to be a relaxed weekend getaway for us and hence booked a luxury suite. On the first evening when we were back from the sunset, which was beautiful, and preparing the bath tub, one of the knob's had come off resulting in water over flowing all around the bathroom and the room. My husband tried to fix it back, which was torture as the water was cold and freezing. As there was just one staff, he was put in a difficult situation! He moved us to another room where the television would not work.. We tried asking him for help, but at the end let it go as he had a much worse situation to deal with... Tai O is remote to find a handyman!

A Great Stay at Charming Tai O

Pity hotel hasn't used the secluded beach for some extra services. The free HBO movie channel in rooms were great. Bath is nice with 2 basins. All young staffs could be more professional in English communication and presentation. Food was very good, the best creme brulee we have ever had in the world! We want to come back and enjoy the silence again. Pity we can't see stars from out restaurant inside through glass roof, as it said in hotel's introduction. Too much light inside and glass has reflection.

My friends and I spent new year's eve at this quaint hotel. It's quite far from the cab and bus drop off points at Tai O so it is good if you take the speed boat to the hotel. It isn't advisable to travel with big baggages.
The hotel is beautiful and clean. Food menu was pretty limited though.
There is no activity at Tai O after 8 so it is advisable that you stock up on food and drinks if you don't want to purchase them from the hotel.
Overall a very pleasant stay.

Well worth the walk.

Arrived late and after six pm . The village is car free so the airport taxi has to leave you at the bus station. The water taxi which would have you at the hotel in 2 minutes does not run after six and you have to walk 25 mins with your cases through the village in the dark to the hotel and directions are not good. Villagers were helpful though and kept sending us in the right direction.

Beautiful hotel and good restaurant make up for the walk.

BEAUTIFUL SURPRISE!

So we booked this hotel just by pictures. On our first time to Hong Kong my husband and I's goal was to reconnect and relax. I had planned for us to stay a few days in Hong Kong and then find another place to stay so we chose Tai O. We had no idea where it was located per se, but as a designer I loved how beautiful and picturesque it looked on pictures. I am an island girl so I immediately was attracted to the water, mountains, pictures of colorful little boats anchored by the shore. I check the reviews and said this is it!

Getting to Tai O was an experience. We can now laugh about it, but at the moment we were a little frustrated. Cabs were limited so we waited over an hour to find a cab, that took us to another cab that then took us to a bus that took us to a boat that got us to Tai O. OUR MISTAKE, we had all of our luggage with us (2 large suitcases). When going to Tai O - pack light, you don't need that much anyway.

Once we arrived, it was majestic! Our room was beautiful, quaint, welcoming. The property and its history was certainly worth the hike to get to it. There is Tai O village walking distance and I will warn you, on your walk to it, it will stink horrendously as the island folks make shrimp paste, but it is refreshing and gives you perspective on how other people live. The hotel has a book on the history of Tai O and as a history buff I strongly recommend you read it.

It was worth the trip. It is a must see; and so are the pink dolphins!

There is a continual flow of visitors to the village who come to see the converted police station. There is a distinct lack of privacy. The only option is either to stay out till 6 pm or close the blinds. Shame, lovely hotel set in a working Chinese village.

Peace and tranquility in Hong Kong

Hotel was really lovely - atmospheric and peaceful. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The building has been tastefully and authentically restored and adapted to a luxury boutique hotel.
The catering was disappointing - I feel the staff need to go and experience other hotels of similar standing to see what guests expect. For example, the \"bakery Basket\" should not just consist of 4 small triangles of sliced toast. If that is what is being offered, say \"toast\". The room also lacked natural light and you need to prop the door open to get sunlight which compromises your privacy - maybe the upstairs rooms would be better.

Overall the stay was good, the environment was nice and pleasant. However, unfortunately the toilet flushing system was worn out and the tube was a bit unclean, which makes a bit of disappointment. There are lots of updated movies in the room for free and that's really great! If you don't mind a 15-20mins walk from the main road, this is a hotel that you should visit in Tai O.

It was a relaxing day out of the city. The hotel is on top a small hill overseeing South China sea. It is a nice place to watch sunset. You might even be able to view stars if the sky is clear. Since it is a heritage building, don't expect a lot of privacy; visitors can walk by your room. All in all, it is a nice place to enjoy a evening out in the open. Bring your wine though, I don't know if they have a bar.

Perfect escape from HK

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 1 night during our week long trip to Hong Kong. I loved this beautiful hotel, it really felt like a romantic getaway. I read some of the reviews before booking and could see how people were annoyed with the tourists. We had a ground floor suite and there were people walking right outside out bedroom window. I just opened our curtains and window and let the fresh air roll in, people weren't so rude as to peer inside then. It was also quite rainy that day so there weren't too many people around. I had an amazing time and would recommend this to anyone. Come when it's not so busy to have even more serenity.

An unusual destination

Beautiful but difficult access with luggage

We were looking for somewhere quiet and a bit different to stay overnight as a stopover to break up a long flight from Europe.This hotel, whilst beautiful, did not work for this purpose because of water/walking access only from Tao village with heavy luggage and the lack of lounge or other public areas in which to wait after checkout time.

A Little Tranquility in Tai O

The gentle and friendly manner of the receptionist at check in was a welcome start to a relaxing weekend. The staff could not do enough to make you feel home away from home, much appreciated. The room was relaxing from the moment you turned the key in the lock due to the soothing colours of the interior decoration and excellent comfortable beds and pillows. We made good use of the outs decking area for relaxing under the stars and enjoying the night time nature in the trees. We enjoyed it so much we have already made another booking to return.

This is a beautiful hotel with a romantic heritage which has been thoughtfully tapped into. The room was incredibly comfortable and soothingly decorated. The setting is lovely and remote but even so we didn't find it too difficult to access from Hong Kong for a one night stay. We are definitely hoping to return someday for a longer stay!

Very bright and spacious room with 5-star level amenities. All the staff were friendly and always carried a smile that made us feel welcomed. We were given a special tour of the site which comprehensively highlighted its historical background and significance.

The restaurant food was very good and came in large portions. We particularly enjoyed the Tai O delicacies and the steak. The breakfast (included in the price of the room) was elaborate and beautifully presented.

房內裝修及設備有點殘舊，餐廳食物質素有改善空間，出餐畧慢，價錢因而有點不值得。但整體酒店及餐廳員工服務態度好，有禮及親切。
可接受酒店容許外人參觀，但保安有點令人憂慮，例如在窗外仍可透過窗簾窺探房內情況。另外有少量噪音問題。

酒店虽然環境清静，但由于是保護文物開放给公眾，而我们住的是1118号房，因為房門外是走廊，很多房客或外訪者常在房外走動拍照，令到房间由入住到離開都不能開窗和窗帘，没有私隱也浪费了房外的好風光不能在房内慢慢欣賞。房费$2700包早餐，西式为主但中式只有一個小雞包仔和一個小蒸牛肉球且是两個人共享的，即一人半個，是否给人感覺有点\"孤寒\"呢？！設備上由大路行约三层楼高的楼梯才到接待處，到餐厅也要行楼梯(虽然有電梯，要求才会開放使用)，都没有遮擋，日曬雨淋，如夏天，冬天和下雨天便很麻烦了。总结一句，来试過—晩便够了。

酒店四周環境優美，外觀很優雅，餐廳也很舒適。房間也很不錯。但是細節上要改進的地方很多。酒店不主動提個人梳洗用品和拖鞋，這沒有問題，本身也很支持環保，但事先應該提醒客人帶備。洗手盆旁沒有洗手液，要去沖涼房取，但沖涼房用後地板吹了一晚都沒乾，取洗手液後，鞋都濕了。另外，冷氣機噪音很大，晚上影響睡眠。總體是五星級的外觀，三星級的體驗吧。理解酒店房少，成本貴，但以此體驗來說，價格偏貴了。
