The hotel was just stunning! Like stepping into a Fitzgerald novel. The staff was so helpful, kind and friendly. Made great recommendations and helped booked reservations. I had an emergency and had to leave early but will definitely go back. Loved the old hotel and the lovely staff!

This is property was apparently a \"hot spot\" in the 1920's, but that era is long gone. It's a huge property with very few guests, which immediately gave me a \"Bates Motel\" vibe. Although the word \"spa\" is in the name, it has no spa services to speak of. They had a huge dining room, where you'd see possibly four couples in total. BEST part about the place was its wonderful breakfast buffet.

If you're looking to explore a hotel out of yesteryear, this is the place!

Liked the old world charm of this hotel. Staff were very attentive, good breakfast. However, Expedia advertises this hotel as Curia Palace Hotel, Spa and Golf. This is erroneous, the golf facility has been closed for 8 years!!!
We had brought our clubs for nothing and were very disappointed.
Golfers beware!

We had a lovely time, so much history. We walked the grounds and couldn’t believe how vast the property was. So many interesting things like miniature horses, mule deer, pheasants and a few chickens. Amazing!!
We were a little disappointed that the pools weren’t open.

The architecture of the palace is very beautiful. The breakfast was great! The furniture around the hotel in the common areas are beautiful and probably from the 1920s when the hotel was built. The room we had was small but it had 2 sinks and a nice bathtub/shower. The view of the inner courtyard could have been improved with flowers. You had to get there by car. The restaurants are limited in the area unless you have a car. There is a cafe and a Turismo (Tourist information) across the road. You can have supper at the hotel for 21 euros, or go to the neighboring hotel and eat there. It seems like a safe location, and you can walk around at night.

This is a very unique hotel tucked away in the central part of Portugal. The facility was the perfect location for us because we were attending a family event in the area. The location was also ideal if you are traveling between Porto, Coimbra, Anadia, or anywhere in the area. The hotel, pool, and grounds at the front of the hotel were beautiful. The staff was very friendly, helpful and there was always someone at the desk who spoke English. The room was adequately comfortable and we appreciated the air conditioning. The breakfast was especially appreciated and had many choices of foods and drinks available. We did not eat other meals at the hotel, but the dining room is available throughout the day. When we travel to see family in the future, we will stay here again. One disappointment was that the golf course is closed even though it is advertised and there are many signs in the area promoting the golf course. Maybe this closure is temporary as we did see that the course is being watered and somewhat maintained.

This castle is so pretty from the outside, and so disappointing and badly managed on the inside.
List of problems: bad room - we got two single beds when we ordered a double. View of concrete wall. No hot water. Bad water pressure. WiFi wasn’t working in our room. Bad smell in the room. Everything is very old and badly maintained.
Bad “spa”. Jacuzzi is cold. Swimming pool is full of chlorine. Bad showers. It’s not really a spa.
And again, everything is so old.
Staff are trying to be helpful but it seems their hands are tied.
The building is beautiful and has so much potential, that bad management is ruining.
Bottom line - worst value for money in a long time.

Splendid palace, extensive grounds, old-world feel like out of the great Gatsby, but rooms are modern and comfortable. Delicious meals in hotel dining room. The helpful hotel staff directed us to a great vineyard for a tour and tasting, and also to a great little cafe for a light dinner. The grounds were spectacular with swans and lots of other wildlife. The swimming pool and golf course were not open when we visited in early October.

This was formally a Jesuit College that has been converted to a hotel. A lot of the orginal features are still intact like the lift, old telephones, takes one back to a particular era (museum hotel, one would refer to it as). The rooms have been upgraded and are quite a good size. Had dinner at the restaurant, which is still in character of the 1920's, quite a trip. The service was impecabble, unfortunately the food was not quite up to par. There is plenty of complimentary parking. Recommend a visit to the Bairrada wine shop, (10-15 minutes walk from the hotel). This was a train station that has been converted to a wine shop featuring locally sourced wines, fantastic wine tasting and staff. Enjoy your stay.

Palace with charm and personality

Wonderful old hotel with lots of charm. Fantastic, friendly staff. “Golf” is not really part of the hotel, although there is a very basic 9 hole course nearby. The “spa” is also pretty basic. But don’t miss a walk through the gardens and ponds across the road, they’re lovely.

If you ever want to get a sense of what it was like to be in a hotel in the 1920‘s, then this place is for you. While the hotel is a bit off the beaten path, I love going there just to get a glimpse of times past. While the hotel may have lost some of the glory of yesteryear, the rooms have been updated to todays standard and if you are lucky to have scored a room facing the front, you will be amazed by the view of the front gardens and the lonely swan....

An indoor pool and spa section is also part of the updates.

Note that this area of Curia was one of the go-to places for the well heeled in the 20’s and the neighboring gardens and park can attest to times gone by. I believe the area is still popular in the summer, but as we were here during a very cold March, it lacked the liveliness i would expect in June or July.

Beautiful place. That can't be underestimated. Level of details was less than ideal - eg no bathrobes, no coffee/hot water in room. Also, the old classy vibe veered into creepy at time - the soundtrack at dinner was about 30 minutes of nice swing music, but repeated those 30 min constantly. Overall, there are not substantive complaints, but the it felt less than it should have been. No WiFI is a definite negative too.

A stunning hotel with plenty of period features. The staff were always very courteous and helpful. Most spoke excellent English. The restaurant was very good with a good selection at the breakfast buffet and tasty choices for dinner. The only criticism was the bed as it was a little uncomfortable with quite a firm mattress.

Beautiful Property, A Few Problems

Found the hotel and the gardens to be beautiful, but unfortunately the air conditioning in our room failed while it was 99F (37C). Took many calls to the staff to convince them that the room was uninhabitable, but we were eventually given another room (after much trouble). I must mention, however, that they very kindly kept the restaurant open for us to have lunch, despite that we had arrived just after closing.

Hotel is beautiful to look at & the rooms are all modern & very comfortable. The staff were helpful & attentive and the buffet breakfast was first class. One or two minor issues- we couldn't get BBC World or CNN on the TV due to satellite connection problems. Oudoor pool is old & not very clean & there was an additional charge to use the hotel Spa. Would have expected this would be included in the room price!
Curia (the town) is small & there's little to do. If you have a car, go to Coimbra (old & beautiful University town), Bussaco (forest in the hills) or one of the many beaches!

The Palace Hotel is a hotel in the grand style built in the 1920s. It was completely renovated in 2008. There are some fine public rooms whilst the bedrooms (furnished in a modern style) are clean, comfortable and have good bathrooms. The restaurant serves a good breakfast buffet and the dinners are good if you choose carefully. The wine list is entirely Portuguese and gives the chance to try some excellent wines not available in England. Staff are very helpful and speak good English. It is an interesting place to stay. Drawbacks for some people may be that the swimming pool is only open at the peak season and that the Spa is expensive and limited in its services (the one in town is better). The hotel gardens make an immediate impression but it turns out there are few places to sit and pass the hours in a shady spot. As with many hotels, conferences can intrude upon a private stay. However, I would happily return.

Ingen dusjslange ved badstu dusjer, vannfontener pool virket ikke, jacuzzi dyser virket ikke, ingen tilstedevi Spa måtte selv gå ut i gang og lete etter rom for håndkle, servitør i restaueant/ frokost trakk bare på skuldrer når spurte om wifi passcode, grusom mat i restaurant helt uakseptabel til pris som burde tilsi kvalitet.

Ninguna flexibilidad para cambiar el menú y pedir una simple tortilla francesa. Falta de personal y poco cualificado en la recepción y en el bar. En el desayuno muy bien el personal. Muy llamativo el último día, pedí un vaso de agua en el instante en el que salía del hotel y comenzaba el viaje de regreso. Estaban dos recepcionistas y me contestaron que no podían dármelo porque el bar no lo abrían hasta las 3, bar que está a menos de 5 metros. En el SPa el agua está fría y no funciona casi nada. El wifi no funcionaba apenas en las habitaciones. Es una pena que un hotel tan bonito y en el que hemos estado varias veces tenga estás deficiencias.

O primeiro quarto que nos foi atribuído tinha fungos na banheira. Prontamente sugeriram atribuir um novo quarto. O segundo quarto tinha cabelos no chão, o espelho sujo e a mobília com pó. Tentámos pedir uma bebida no bar, aguardámos 20 min e não apareceu ninguém para nos servir. O hotel é lindíssimo e os funcionários da recepção são simpáticos e acessíveis. No entanto, a manutenção do hotel é a limpeza deixam a desejar, o que é bastante lamentável quando nos apercebemos de todo o potencial da estadia. O pequeno almoço é bom mas inalterado, pelo que se ficar uma semana, irá ser servido com o mesmo todos os dias.

A não repetir e irei fazer uma reclamação. Falta de cuidado nas instalações do Hotel. Sem Spa e sem piscina, comando da televisão sem trabalhar, agua quase sempre fria, torneiras partidas, pedimos uma refeição ligeira passados 20 minutos fomos informados que nao tinham pao. Um casamento a decorrer no Hotel com muita confusão e barulho.
Vou fazer uma reclamação no Hotels.com porque paguei e não usufruimos de nada.

Ya he evaluado el hotel unas 10 veces, las que me he hospedado y no una noche, siempre minimo 5 dias... Si no , no me da tiempo ni de desconectar ni de realizar una inmersion en la zona.... La noche que llego... Ya percibo el olor nada mas abrir la puerta del coche... Me emociona, me siento feliz!! Doy largos paseos muy temprano... antes del desayuno que ademas es estupendo... Los alrededores, los pueblos y ciudades historicas que estan a 1 hora... La copita en el bar, la lectura en el gran salon... La amabilidad con que te tratan... No llevo comisión, pero casi todos mis amigos y familia cercana ya han caido en dus encantos!!! Solo deseo que se mantenga tal cual y que los nuevos clientes perciban el mismi bienestar que yo

Très bel établissement. Le bâtiment est bien restauré et en conservant le style palace de l'époque. La piscine extérieure est belle et grande. Le petit déjeuner dans la magnifique salle de restaurant est extra.
Le personnel est très serviable et souriant.
Le cygne est toujours là dans son bassin.
Petit bémol, le golf n'existe plus, les tennis, la piscine et le spa intérieurs sont fermés. Les jardins et les abords de la piscine mériteraient un meilleur entretien.
Gageons que les repreneurs soient conscients du potentiel de l'extérieur et que tout ça va être rénové au plus vite.

Un vrai palace sans chichi mais beaucoup de charme

Un vrai retour dans le passé dans ce magnifique palace de près de 100 ans, pleins de charme. Attendez-vous à vous retrouver dans les années 1920. Tout est dans l'état... C'est magnifique.
Quelques travaux seraient nécessaires, mais rien qui nuisent à un excellent séjour.

Le personnel, jeune lui :), est très chaleureux et serviable.

Dommage que le SPA soit fermé pour temps indéterminé.

Nous y retournerons!

C'est un bel hôtel qui a su conservé un beau décor, comme les vitraux du hall d'entrée, l'ancienne \"cage- /ascenseur\" d'autrefois. Nous avons tout aimé. L'accueil, la gentillesse du personnel durant notre séjour (notre regret, c'est d'y avoir passé une seule nuit). Nous avons trouvé ce que nous cherchions, une ambiance vintage et de la musique d'époque (année 30) durant le souper style buffet. Nous y sommes allés à 20 hres alors tout était chaud avec un bon choix de plats. Le petit déjeuner était également bon et varié. Une belle chambre rénovée avec des photos de l'hôtel à ses débuts. Une bonne literie et tout était propre. Bien entendu, il y a des endroits qui ont besoin d'entretien comme les jardins, la piscine ... mais l'hôtel est très charmant. Stationnement gratuit sur place. Nous recommandons sans hésiter si vous passer voir la belle région de Buçaco.

O hotel em si muito bonito, o pequeno-almoço bom mas sem muita variedade. O quarto, a cortina não fechava totalmente e com isso entrava claridade pela manha. O elevador não funcionava

Um pouco desanimadora! Fiz a reserva on-line’ pois, aparentemente, de outra forma não era possível, tendo em contava antecedência - há mais de dois meses - para duas noites e quando cheguei o quarto era interior com vista para o ‘saguão’ ! Ora, o preço é exagerado para um ‘saguão’! O que era anunciado não referia a limitação! Foi pena! Bastava mais uma pequena informação e tudo poderia ter sido mais agradável! Se calhar pode ser estratégia , pois no dia da partida ouvi alguém, supostamente ‘cliente habitual’, dizer em voz alta que gosta de ver as ‘malas a sair’ pois assim ‘… o hotel fica só para ‘a gente’…!’ Aconselho que tenham cuidado com os ‘bairrismos bacocos’ e maior cuidado com os ‘clientes aleatórios’ como eu …! Não sei se me vai apetecer voltar ! Melhores cumprimentos

Magnifique lieu même incroyable seuls bémols chambre très petite qui donne sur des fenêtres dommage quand on sait qu il y’a au moins 300 chambres et l état de la chambre n était pas digne de l hôtel . Le spa était hors service donc dommage et surtout on a l impression qu il y a pas d entretien des structures c est un peu à l abandon figé dans les années 50. Mais le lieu reste quand même incroyable
