I was very disappointed in my recent visit to the Bostonian. This is an old hotel. That is known. What is not known is that it is basically falling apart. Peeling paint, peeling wallpaper, dirty, carpets, amenities not in the room, a horrible experience at the restaurant with a bartender who simply could not care less.

Upon check and I was advised that I would need to pay an additional $30 per night for what they’re calling a destination fee. It describes the reason for this fee as the location of the hotel. What rubbish. This fee was not advertised in advance so this is simply taking advantage of travelers when they check in. Not a good look.

Overall, I would advise anyone to steer clear of the Bostonian.

Sorry to be giving this review, but the only thing good about the property is the location. Thank you to the staff who upgraded our room, but with the roof being worked on in the morning, refrigerator not working, and our bathroom had a bad urine smell, we won’t be staying here again.

The location of the property was great. The woman at the front desk was not so pleasant. She kept telling me my card would not go through when I was checking in . She then tells me it was something wrong with the machine. She had me waiting and she just was not very pleasant at all!

No hand soap in the bathrooms. Had to reach into the shower to get soap to wash our faces and hands after a day out in the city.

We didn't appreciate the \"Boom Boom Rap Music\" coming up from \"North 26\" at 11 PM. Really not necessary. I don't know if North 26 is officially associated with The Bostonian but if it is, I'd relook that relationship. The restaurant is GREAT in the mornings though.

The hotel common spaces were nice. Valet parking was well organized and attendants helpful and attentive. The mattress seemed past its prime…saggy edges. Air conditioning was difficult to regulate as the thermostat had no temperature markings on it…you had to guess.

I would say the best part of this hotel is the location and maybe the lobby. Everything else landed pretty sub-par. The 1st room was gross, humid and smelled. Wasn't clean. The hallways were a perfect example of the first room, musty and in serious need of remodeling. Second room was better, but lacked amenities and the balcony door didn't work. I went down to the desk for body wash and towels twice, even called down and was told \"it'll be brought right up\". We didnt get to shower till 9:30pm when it was finally brought up. The front desk representatives were nice, but didn't give me a great welcomed feeling. I would probably stay here again for half the price and having realistic expectations of what the hotel can offer it's guests.

The property is older and a little dated but the location is amazing! The bed was very comfortable. Only 1 of the 2 elevators were working during our stay which was inconvenient. The room was mostly clean but upon close inspection parts of the room had not been vacuumed, like near baseboards and around the bed. All of the staff are wonderful! We had excellent service from the moment we got out of our car from the valet to the front desk clerks, especially Valda who went above and beyond to make sure my elderly mother was comfortable. She was truly outstanding!

we needed to move our room three times. between a hokey portable air conditioner in room, one, to very dirty room two, to cracked ceiling and torn sheets in room 3 , we elected to check-out a day early.
no coffee in morning till 7 a.m. and the automated self serve coffee machine was empty at 6:30 a.m. --- how could it be empty , first thing in the morning?
poor organization.

then they wanted to charge a daily resort fee over an above the price of the room? this is not a resort, but an old, tired hotel. Would not recommend staying there.

Location is great with easy access to the T subway and walking distance to the Wharf.
It is an older hotel so, don’t except 1st class amenities, but was clean and nice and one of the better values for hotels in the area. If you don’t want to spend $400 a night on a hotel this is the place to go.

The hotel has been renovated and each room is somewhat different. This was our 2nd stay and we love the location, they serviced the rooms daily. Which you never find that anymore. We will always come back to this hotel . The rooms are quiet.
The north end is 5 min walk to all the fresh Italian food. Quincy Market is across the street with every New England food and more. Freedom trail is close. Several restaurants and bars right around the corner. On Friday and Saturday the fresh market fills the street just around the corner. We fly into Boston airport and uber there no need for rental car as the train can get you to Fenway or other places.

The location is amazing! Close to everything!

The front desk help was cold and indifferent. We didn’t have any toilet paper in our room and when I told the front desk she just looked at me like I was crazy and never said anything.

The room had a tremendously loud sound during the night that we think came from the furnace. It stopped after a long time.

The room was old and tired.

We weren’t able to use the refrigerator.

The outside balcony door was difficult to lock/unlock.

The 2 was missing from our room number of 214.

Not very impressed.

The location is excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, the room felt outdated. The mattress was worn out, the carpet had numerous stains, and the heater was not functioning properly. Although the staff promptly addressed the issue and restored the heat, the overall condition of the room could benefit from updates and better maintenance.

Bostonian Hotel Average place to stay but high cost for no reason.

When I book my room it claim to be a room with a view and a balcony. When we check in it was on the second floor, I don’t know about you but my expectation of a room with a view is higher than 2 floors. So we got move to the fifth. Yea! Then from there the room was average what I would expect at a red room inn. The bed squeaked and had a cheap foundation. You know the 99$ foundation you got in your first apartment when you took the bed off the floor finally. The frig did not work, no amenities in the room water, pen , snack nothing. Red Roof inn vibes. Let me say this nothing against red roof inn. I live by the motto. You never go wrong at a holiday Inn. The phone was hit and miss to call the front desk to voice concerns and the tv kept turning itself off. I just used my phone for everything. Security there is not any no camera on hallways that are dark and have turns. The day we left a came in and ask the front desk. Where was the elevator, no me being security mined for my guest would have at least asked do you have a reservation and say the elevator is for guest. So the Bostonian is an overpriced quality inn. That charge a hidden fee of 30$ per night for its location got a feeling they won’t be there long. When you are charging for location and you are not the only player in town you are desperate. This is a 2 star hotel at best just for the location.

Very expensive. There was a surprise destination fee of $30 I was informed of upon check in and valet parking was $70 a night. There is no onsite parking so not many options but valet unless you want to figure out the parking situation on your own. Room has no fridge. No breakfast is provided. Very expensive. Will not stay here again.

The location is great and staff was nice (the few who spoke English). The room was clean but the refrigerator didn’t work, the AC wasn’t working in our room, the door to the Juliet balcony wasn’t opening and our TV wasn’t working and then to top it off, the coffee machine in the lobby was broken. When I stay at a hotel I expect everything to be working or switch rooms. The grounds were clean but nowhere was there a trash can!

The room had very limited wifi bandwidth for our 4 day stay. The lobby/onsite restaurant was set up as a weekend \"rage\" location for Memorial Day - unusable for lunch and dinner. Limited to no support in terms of luggage assistance. Rooms were very old, needing renovation. For $400++ a night, would have presumed better.

The hotel is in a good location, close to several restaurants and stores and walkable areas. The room looked different from what it does in the pictures and it had a smell. The walls and floors have stains and the \"office center\" is only one computer that wasn't working while I stayed at the hotel. The staff was kind and helpful.

Wasn’t impressed with the staff, the room had issues, toilet was loose from the floor, toilet seat very loose, the refrigerator top was busted exposing the electronics and the blinds were very fuzzy with dust. The only good thing was it was right near the Freedom Trail and other places we wanted to see, other than that I wouldn’t recommend staying there.

Toilet splashed water all over us up
Into the air everytime it flushed and it wouldn’t flush anything down unless you did it 10 times. Bathroom door didn’t work. No fitted sheet on the bed. Phone in room didn’t work. Mini fridge was disassembled looked like someone was making a bomb with the parts. lol. Outlets didn’t work. The staff was completely unalarmed about these things. Literally my daughter and I thought we were in a SNL skit. Otherwise awesome location and wasn’t dirty.

The front desk DAY shift was second to none. Helpful, informative and great personalities. One microwave on the third floor one ice machine on the third floor. No coffee until 7:00 during work days, coffee machine that you pay for broken. The elevator broken the entire week. Rooms ok but dated. Bed was worn out.
If not for the front desk day personnel I’d rate this a poor hotel not worth the money.

Ideal location. Lots of restaurants within a short walking distance. Accessible room was very spacious with a roll-in shower. The bed, although very comfortable, was a little tall which made the wheelchair transfer a little difficult.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a long delay to check out due to having breakfast, would recommend the breakfast staff ask if folks are checking out to remedy that problem for future guest, as I was not the only one I saw with that issue.

\"The business suite\" computer was not working, they said they would send someone up, but after 15 minutes I gave up and looked for another solution.

The balcony was a really nice feature and I slept really well on the mattress. The sounds of the City are not for light sleepers (bring earplugs if you are one!)

The property is lovely, an old building in the heart of downtown. I absolutely loved this place a little old hotel with lots of charm. Some areas need some TLC but the staff was amazing and you really can’t beat the location. We were in town for one night, stayed here and would definitely stay again. Large spacious rooms with either a large shower or extra large bathtub.

Great location but lacks a place in the evening to grab a cold drink or quick snack besides restaurant which closes. They ran out of water every evening before we would come back for the day.

I have stayed here 3-4 times over the last 20 years and it’s starting to look alittle tired once you get past the lobby.

The hotel has definitely declined since the last time I stayed there. The room decor was hideous and dated, stained rugs, wallpaper peeling off the walls, one picture was displaced in the frame and not fixed, the bedding was hideous, the chair in the room was very dated with crumbs all over it and a tic tac container in the cushion, not enough pillows, broken/hanging off door latch on the french door to the balcony, no mini fridge, the television/guide was set to January 2025 so it was a crap shoot finding a program to watch, hallway was dated with peeling wallpaper and a Mattress and bed skirt left out in the hallway to air out. Very disappointed and would not stay there again.

Great location in old town. Easy walking to pubs, restaurants and shopping.
Disappointments: Unlike other 4 star hotels the front desk personnel were efficient but really had no interest in you, they were there to punch the right buttons,say the right things and next...
Breakfast was the same, no enthusiasm or cheerfulness, they were there just to get through the day.
The room was relatively clean but the room and hallways need a good vacuuming.
Bottom line, yes we would stay there again but my expectations would be lowered.

Staff was nice, Internet worked well, great hot water, and clean bedding. However, the shower did have some mold on the edges, which could've used some deep cleaning. A/C worked well and complimentary water bottles in lobby was a plus. Our hotel view was not the best. We requested city view and paid for early arrival. We were told we were going to get city view, however, we ended up getting a room with a back alley view to pipes, heating and air conditioning units. But did not hear any city noise. Area is very central. However, the surrounding area at night can get a little noisy and rowdy at night with seedy characters, especially during special events and at the Quincy Market area. We did see some police activity in the area and even 3 people being arrested on the backside of the hotel. As a single female traveler, I will probably not stay at this location again. But overall we had a pleasant time.

The room was nice but we had multiple issues with electronics being disconnected. They sent up the engineer and resolved both issues fairly quickly. We also noticed some housekeeping mistakes over our stay, specifically food on the carpet on one side of the bed and empty body wash in the shower. All these issues where fairly small but with that being said in the future we will probably just stay somewhere else.

Had a smooth check-in, once I got settled into my room I noticed that the room was abnormally hot. Checked the thermostat and it was 81 degrees! I then tried to call front desk but the phone wasn’t working properly either. I then went downstairs to speak to a gentleman (whose name I wish I could remember), he was VERY understanding and offered to change my room right away. The new room was perfect! I enjoyed myself entirely. You can’t beat the location, staff, and accommodations.

Paid for an upgraded room and it was anything except upgraded. It was dirty, loud, and somehow only had 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel for 2 adults. The balcony door didn't seal so the room was loud and drafty. The awning on the balcony made loud banging noises and I called twice to have it retracted and nobody ever came. And the phone didn't work to call the front desk so I know that it took 9 minutes on the phone to get a response from the front desk.
