Very centrally located. Windows which you can actually open. Spacious room. Very good mattress and I slept well.
Clean and modern bathroom. There was a hairdryer and kettle. Furniture and the carpet are about old, but my stay was short so I did not mind. There was a small fridge, but I switched it off in the night as it made noise. In total, I had very pleasant stay.

It was in the middle of all the activity. We had a room on the third floor so it was quiet. However, without elevators, it gave us lots of exercise.

We had some anxiety about whether there would be someone to take our bags down early in the morning - we had a train to make. But our host came to the rescue and all was well.

Atmospheric spot in a great location

The room was bigger than I expected, and I was impressed with the size of the overall hotel itself, given that it's tucked away next to and above a pub. A nice room and spacious bathroom. No frills, but very comfortable and clean. Definitely bring your earplugs as the pub noise goes well into the night, as you might expect. Adds to the ambiance! Nice place.

Great location and vibe

This place is great. Now, you have to understand that you're above a pub and this is not a five star establishment. Dublin is not cheap but this is a great value given it's location. Yes, it got loud at night vbut it wasn't crazy. The room was spacious and clean. Everything is dated and the stairs are a challenge but I will stay here again.

O'Donoghue's a great central location

O'Donoghue's is more or less in the middle of town, so very convienient for the city centre.
I stayed at O'Ds this week and about 4 weeks ago, so I should have learnt from my first visit. But the rooms at O'Ds are quite dull and dingey. A coat of white paint, some brighter lights and a neutral carpet would make such a difference. Bed and pillows were comfy. TV had a handful of local stations. Wifi was good. The room was very warm, I couldn't adjust the radiator, so I opened the window. O'Ds is in the middle of town so there is a lot of foot traffic and vehicle traffic both late into the night and early in the morning!
All the rooms are up narrow and quite steep stairs, and the landings and stairwells are also dull and dingey.
There is a little cupboard on the landing that has a washing machine in it and that machine is on lot at all hours. I was on the top floor and heard it, my last visit I was on the first floor and heard it.
The bathrooms are adequate, but the shower cubicles are very small. I am Mr Average, size wise, and I couldn't bend down to pick up the shampoo bottle. The bathrooms are not vented so the ceilings are covered in flakey paint.
There was a hairdryer and kettle in both rooms.
O'Ds is famous for its pub with live music, and it is a great venue, with a good range of beer. They don't do food, so breakfast needs to taken at one of a number of local cafes. A good selection of evening meals are available very locally.

Loved the ambiance of the pub, great pub, and we arrive during on a day they had live music which was amazing. Rooms were comfy, clean and appealing. Staff was great, helpful and amazing sense of humour. There is a long staircase up to the guest rooms, but they gave a helping hand. Great location to many popular places downtown, temple bar, Stephens green, whiskey museum, etc

Comfortable Room with Great Location

Room was clean and comfortable. Private bathroom and necessary ameneties included. Great location, walking distance to Grafton Street, Trinity College, and plenty of restaurants. Staff was very friendly, live music played every night at the bar and a great place to get a Guinness before bed!

Adequate hotel with a good location

It was an OK hotel. The building is old, but the room is relatively clean. The shower is quite small, I'm OK with it except that it doesn't have a place to put the shower gel and stuff. I stayed on the top floor, noise from the bar wasn't actually a big problem. The staff are really nice and friendly.

Rooms above popular Irish Pub

I love Dublin and have stayed many times, this is the worst experience. My fault I did miss the bit about up 5 flights of twisting stairs , then down a further flight!
In fairness I had a 20K bag and the very kind gentleman behind the bar carries it on his head to my room, getting it back down early in the morning, now that's a different story.Also when I saw that breakfast was not included in the very high price, I did not appreciate that the place was closed at breakfast time opening only at lunch time..so no Irish breakfast for me.
Again I am a rather large person and almost could not get into the tiny shower, so I blame myself for not researching more closely.
The bedroom was clean and tidy the first day!
So paying in advance with no chance of refund...again my mistake.
I take all the blame, the rooms are what they are , a room above a busy pub in a main street that has people screaming until 5 in the morning.
In conclusion check what you are getting with this one, because you might be in for a bit of a shock.
The pub is very busy and the Guinness is great, live traditional music in the evenings..even if you cannot get close due to the crowd of screaming party goers and hen parties....

This hotel was overpriced for what you get. Noisy at night and in the morning. There was no city view which was stated. We wasn't told there was breakfast available. Also this hotel is suitable for the infirm due to the flights of stairs. We had to go up five flights of stairs to get to our room.

The Irish know how to party

2 nights and one day. a little nosy around midnight but other wise ok. the staff was great and very helpful.The room was clean and the shower was small but hot and easy to use. If you want to be in the middle of a party and do not climbing stairs this is the place.

ODonaghues... A taste of Ireland

The accommodations were easy to locate. Convenient to eating/ shopping. Lots of traffic, great for people watching. Durprisingly, noise from the pub wasinimsl. WiFi worked great in the room and even across the street at a little shop to purchase food and supplies with a couple of stools and a counter to eat at. I lovedy stay at ODonaghues, not sure I would stay again, as there are many other options.... The room was not as clean with old carpeting, but it is an older building, so what do you expect?The bathroom was the deal breaker... The shower was too small to even turn around in... Not exaggerating.

A surprisingly good room. Old and not that big,esp the bathroom which had probably the smallest shower ever. Bed was very conforable. Location was convenient walk to many sights, shops and restuarants nd felt very safe. Pub downstairs was busy and atmospheric. Note: stairs to room were very steep and narrow and noise from street if room on that side was noticable.

A good value, if you don't mind a bit of noise.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The location was good, near St. Stephen's Green. The room being just upstairs from the pub had some obvious advantages, but also meant there was a fair amount of street noise--from the pub at night, and from truck deliveries in the early morning. The provided ear plugs on the nightstand helped and we actually slept well enough both nights we stayed.

The room was very nice and the beds comfy. The shower was a bit small and not too clean, but it was okay. There's quite some noise from the street in the morning, but since I spelt with earplugs it didn't bother me.

Great hotel for a trip with a friend etc, would not recommend for families.

Not terrible. The bed was sinking in the middle and it is EXTREMELY loud in the rooms. I had to go buy ear plugs and I could still hear the noise from the streets on the third floor. It sounded like my windows weren't even closed. The staff was nice and the room was ok, very simple, but clean. The noise ruined it for me though, I wouldn't stay again.

Stayed in o donohues for a meet up with friends a very nice barman showed me to my room despite being busy on checking out next day girl in the bar asked did i need my luggage minded check. Out is 12 noon my room was nice with tea making tray plenty of towels n toilitrys location is 1st class shops cafes stephens green all on doorstep i wld recomend it def.a

I knew this room was above a pub so was prepared for the noise. The pub itself has a great atmosphere, the room was spacious with great beds and a really good hot shower. It isn't modern but it has everything you need and is handy to the city centre. Would stay again.

This is a really fun place to stay if you want to be in the middle of all the action. We did but this was even too far for us. It wouldn't have been bad if our heater wasn't stuck on which made the room a hot box causing us to open the window which was facing the street. Without earplugs we wouldn't have made it through the nights here. Location is amazing and we loved the vibe though.

It was good!

Good hotel to go to for a couple of nights! 15 minute walk south of trinity college. Taxis drive by often. When we first got there we were waiting for a couple minutes before someone acknowledged us. I guess in Europe you are supposed to approach everyone. Room clean, beds were comfortable, grocery store across the street so you don't have to eat out. It is above a bar so if you don't mind people talking til 12:30am then you're okay!

Nice little pub hotel

Overall, not a bad little place. It's in a nice neighborhood and very close to pretty much everything you would want to do. They are very informal so we just needed to find a bartender to check in. Our only issue was the noise...as it is above a working bar, the noise was a bit much the first night (especially since it was the day before a holiday). Nothing a pair of ear plugs couldn't fix! Overall, would stay again.

This place is.. interesting. The pub is cool and the rooms are old but spacious. The bathrooms, however, have huge amounts of black mold and dust that has probably been there since the 80s. It's no where near the city center so be ready to walk a lot if you want to tour the town.

Our stay at O'Donoghue's Pub

It was fun staying at O'Donoghue's. The pub is lively and the neighborhood is great. Close enough to the bus stops and many good places to eat close by. The Spar Market across the street is also very handy. The only downside for some would be the steep stairs and lack of elevator. The pub barmen were quite helpful with our luggage. Also, the street is a bit noisy at pub closing time, but not in a negative way for us. Overall, we enjoyed the accommodation and plan to return.

Noisy and Hot

I knew I chose a \"hotel\" above a pub for an Irish experience but it was the worst one we had. After check in there was no \"hotel\" staff (they did make up our room in the morning) but they're full focus was on their pub customers. Our room was on the top floor. Fine; except there was no lift. There must have been at least 50-75 narrow steps. The room was warm the first day and HOT the second day. My husband went down to complain and was told it would be at least an hour before someone came up. The lady in the next room also complained and the Mgr said he'd turn the heat off. Our bathroom radiator never went off. Because of pub and street noise we couldn't leave our windows open at night. I spoke with an older gentleman the next morning as we were leaving and he asked about our room and apologized. We did have a very large room.

Location was very convenient, but the street noise when the bar closed and later when the aluminum barrels were being rolled over the cobble stones for about 20 minutes was not. Because it is a bar there is no one around in the mornings at all and during bar hours they are very busy. They were extremely friendly, however, and we felt safe. I could not get any hot water early in the morning, but later in the day seemed fine. Rooms are expensive in Dublin, so even though we paid more for this room than any other on our trip, I guess it was a good deal for Dublin.

When I arrived I went to the bar to let them know I was there. There is no lobby. Since I arrived before noon I had to wait about 30min. For my room to be ready. I was offered a drink while I waited. My room was #9 up quite a few narrow stairs. My bag was carried up for me. The room had 2 twin beds that were very comfortable. Two Windows to open for air. A wardrobe closet and desk,chair, and bench or table to put luggage on. There was a tea kettle with coffee or tea. One plug basically in whole room. Carpet could be cleaner. Bathroom shower very small and no hooks to hang things on.only amenity was shower gel and bar of soap. hairdryer in bathroom. old fashioned 2 faucets for hot cold water. Great location. Bar noise was not a problem. Key to outer door to stairs to room and another key for room. Price was good. Close to airport bus stops on oils are and dawson. Not far from Suffolk for meeting stop for tours all walkable. Convenience store across street. Fridge also in room. Only reason I would not stay again is because of stairs.

Good place in Dublin

I booked this accommodation for our last night on a trip to Ireland. It is only about two blocks from the Aircoach Dawson Street stop.

It is over a pub, and does not serve meals. As some have reported, with the window open on a summer night, noise might be a consideration, but it was not a problem on our stay. Some, or all, rooms require a lot of stair climbing.

It was a great room at a very good price.

Very easily accessed by public transport, bus 25A from Heuston station stops right across the road. Lovely friendly staff, great music in he pub and very clean accommodation. Didn't get the best sleep of my life I must admit but that was due to the street cleaning and traffic etc from 5:30/6am as my room was at the very front of the building. I would happily stay here again but would choose a different room.

This stay was just amazing! The room was pretty basic and nothing special but who cares we did not book for the comfort the staff we so welcoming and helpful, they carried our bags for us and we were able to check-in an hour early. The bar downstairs is a must visit what a night! What happens in Dublin stays in Dublin right? Drink was flowing with some of the kindest staff and locals I've ever met. They could literally not do enough for you! There live music playing there was also great I've been to ireland hundreds of times as all my family live there and yet I still had the sense of home and what ireland is in this place! Would definitely stay again ! I will just add that I was a little apprehensive about sleeping above a busy pub but it was very quiet. Only a faint sound of a car passed by.

A quaint irish pub with somewhere to sleep :)

This was a great spot for a last minute booking for Dublin. It's very close to Stephen's Green and Grafton Street so plenty to do nearby. The hotel is basically B&B rooms above a city centre pub. The whole place has a quaint irish feel to it. If you're looking for a fancy hotel, this isn't for you, but if you need a cheap place to stay the night, it's comfy and clean.

The hotel is located next to a bar of the same name. I was unable to find the entrance, so I walked into the bar...which was the front desk where I paid for my room. The bartender asked me to meet him outside the front door of the bar. He walked me to the building next door, and unlocked the side door leading to small stairwell. I was told there were 9 rooms. My room was small, but very clean. The street was a little noisy, however, it was sufficient if you are just looking for a place to sleep that is close to city center. If you stay here, be sure to ask for the free wifi password, as I forgot to ask.

23rd Anniversary's Guinness Year

We loved our stay at O'Donoghue's. We were on the top floor(bring small suitcase). We had a very comfortable room. Beds were great. We wish we could have stayed longer. We spent the entire evening in the pub. I would not trade that night for anything...drinking, singing, meeting people from everywhere...what more could you ask for. Guinness, please!

Recommended for Traveling on a Budget

5 star location in Dublin city center at a great price. Above a bar so noise was to be expected and it was noisey but nothing earplugs didn't fix. The accomodations are high volume so not a sterile feeling but sufficient and safe while travelling on a budget.
Pros: Location, location, location! Felt safe and bar staff/hotel staff were great. Allowed me to check in early which was kind and appreciated.
Cons: Smallest shower I have ever encountered with no place to put shower supplies. Made for an interesting shower! They tried to service my room prior to check-out time.

Enjoyable and pleasant stay

My girlfriend and I were spending a short break away in Dublin, and we decided to stay at O'Donaghues. We're so glad we did.
The staff were helpful and attentive, quickly confirmed our reservation, and showed us to our room. The room was a great size, with a comfortable double bed. The room was clean, and despite being on the main road was quiet with no excessive noise coming from the people or traffic below. The bathroom was a good size, and again immaculately clean and fresh. The hotel is a great place to stay for pleasure or business, and is close to all and everything you need, especially the fantastic bar and Guinness downstairs :)
Definitely recommend and will seriously consider staying again when we return

Good location

Room was never really cleaned. Staff were unhelpful. We asked them to book us a taxi for when we were leaving. They said they didn't book taxis for customers. The toilet seat/lid seemed to have been broken for some time which the cleaners obviously knew but didn't bother to fix it. Bar was very noisy at night but that was to be expected we took earplugs.

Fantastic rooms above a historic pub

We were extreamly pleased with our stay. It is located in the heart of Dublin above a historic pub. The rooms are quaint, and the service is top knotch. It is a hike up narrow stairs to get to the room, but the hotel manager brought our bags up for us as we waited in the bar. We stayed two nights, one on each end of the trip and will return next time we're in Ireland. It is not a Westin, but a perfect hotel if you are looking to experience Irish culture and hospitality.

Great Location!

Visited Dublin in July with a friend for a girls only getaway. The staff were amazing and helped us out with whatever we required. The beds were really comfortable though I never realized how small a single bed is. The location can't be beat and the pub downstairs was a great place to spend an evening or to finish up at. Great Experience

We stayed here for two nights. It was my boyfriend and I. We had an a great time. It is walking distance from a lot attractions. The bar is full of locals and is a lot of fun. If you are looking for an authentic experience in Dublin stay here!!!

Clean, great location, good value!

Our room was on the top floor, up four flights of stairs. You really want want to be travelling light if you stay here. If you're a light sleeper, you'll need to bring ear plugs because the rooms are over one of the most popular pubs in Dublin. None of that put me or my husband off though. If you're staying in the center of the city, noise it to be expected. The room was clean and tidy and had superb natural lighting. The mattress was firm and comfortable. It was great having access to free wifi - the signal strength was excellent throughout our stay there. So many places in Dublin charge for wifi - it was nice seeing a place that has figured out that internet should be a part of your stay; not an add-on service charge. We really only dealt with one staff person, who also tended the bar. He was very pleasant and friendly and even walked us up to our room. There is no check-in or check-out procedure to speak of. You go into the pub, give the barman your name, and he gives you your key. When you leave, you just drop the keys off at the bar. Couldn't be easier. If you need to check-out before the pub opens, you can just leave the keys in the room. We would definitely stay here again. It's good value for money and the location is excellent.

Need to have more food.

I really wouldn't classify this as a \"bed and breakfast\". More like just a room over the bar. Only bar food available was toasted ham and cheese sandwhich. But for a room over the bar it had great atmosphere, and easy to get to main historical sites. Kinda noisy if window faces the street.

Lovely pub - adequate stay.

Loved the pub, great atmosphere. Very nice to know bed was only a minutes walk from the bar! Friendly staff who were happy to help and book taxis as needed. Rooms above the bar which has a lively outside area. We were exhausted so sleep no problem but cautionary note for light sleepers. Average facilities. Good option for those who want an affordable overnight option.

Staff very pleasant and accommodating. We arrived a few hours prior to check in time and they served us tea while they prepared the room. The room was clean and comfortable and a great value for the price. Historic pub right in the heart of the action. The only possible drawback for some is that the rooms are up a steep staircase but the staff brought our suitcases up for us so were there when we were given the key to our room.

Good location, OK hotel

Hotel is in a nice location for Dublin, but is a bit of a walk from many of the local attractions. Hot water was challenging to figure out. It goes from scalding hot to ice cold very quickly. Rooms could use a refresh-a little paint, new linens, etc. They weren't bad, though... I've just stayed in nicer places. The bar was easy to find, but there was no clear indication of where to go to check in to the rooms.

Wonderful place to stay. Paul and Sean were very helpful and made our Dublin experience even better. Music was great and of course O'Donoghue's is a awesome place to hang out enjoying a Guinness.

Lively pub, close to many varied attractions.

In the heart of the city! City was cleaner than I expected. Super friendly locals. Walked to many attractions including Book of Kells, Liffie, St. Stevens Park, Grafton Street, Temple Bar Area. Came across Matt the Trasher Restaurant-excellent food and design, hubby enjoyed best fish and chips ever, I had a healthy steamed fish and sides. Could park for 16 euros/24 hours at Q-Park IF booked in advance. On stalls at opposite side of block: could park for free btwn 7pm and 7am, as well, pay for 7-10 am the night before for 9 euros. Not recommended for light sleepers - only about 2 hours of quiet before sunrise. Free pick up/delivery laundry service available. Hard to find weekend breakfast. Also hard to find a very detailed map of Dublin streets, so select carefully.

A welcoming room after a long flight

We only had one night's stay here in our month long trip to the UK and France, but this hotel wins hands down for the most comfortable bed we slept on the entire month! While not modern and freshly decorated by any stretch of the imagination, it had a charm and sense of history to it that fits perfectly with Ireland. Also a great location, close to the centre of Dublin. Our room was up several flights of narrow, steep stairs and given the age of the building there is no lift, so it was just as well it was the first night of our trip before we'd loaded down our suitcases with lots of shopping!

Great location, comfortable bed

The location was great. It was my first night in Dublin and was pretty tired. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. There was a lot of noise from the pubdownstairs but that was expected as I'm staying above a pub! Besides, that are what ear plugs are for - or my case, noise canceling headphones.

Best keep secret

Best secret in Dublin. Very friendly owner who was helpful and made the best of our stay. The music was fun and the pub is the most busy 7 day's a week. Up scale neighborhood. Very safe. My niece will travel to Dublin and I will make sure she stay's there. Much better than other hotels in Dublin we stayed in.

Brilliant!

What a great place to stay - a superb bar with great atmosphere. The room was large and very clean. Plus the location near St. Stephen's Green is perfect. If like me, you prefer real places to stay - this is fantastic. I will definitely stay again. No breakfast but that does not matter as there are numerous places nearby.

Perfect for an overnight

Was working in Dublin city for two days, so the cost, location and convenience of O'Donoghue's was perfect. Rooms are clean, decent sized (asked for a single and received a treble) and comfortable. Would definitely recommend for an overnight stay, especially if you plan to enjoy Dublins social scene (O'Donoghue's bar is a good starting point too). All in all, great value.

Enjoyable lodgings close to centre

O'Donoghues is very central - just off St Stephens Green. The accommodation is in rooms (with en-suite bathrooms) above a fairly rowdy, traditional bar where they play live music. But there's double glazing and I had a very good night's sleep. You have your own key to let you into part of the building where the guest rooms are - so it's very convenient whatever time you return. You can also stay in your room until noon before checking out, which is a definite bonus. The staff - mostly young and not-so-young blokes manning the bar - are very friendly and obliging. They will keep your bags safe for you after you check out of your room. There's no breakfast to be had - so far as I know - but there's a Cafe Nero over the road, and a Spar supermarket (much more up-market than the UK version) which serves coffee and croissants etc.

I arrived at the bar thinking, this cannot be my hotel?! It was, infact, a pub with 9 bedrooms above it. Worrisome at first, but the noise was not from the revelers but from the traffic outside. Will return, i'm sure, maybe with my bass?!

fantastic stay

Just got back from O,Donoghues , I have got to say what a great stay we had, We got there 2 hours early to drop the bags off to find the man on the bar could not be more helpful, he took our bags up to the room why i sampled a pint of the black stuff . The room was clean and comfortable a little warm as we could not turn the radiators off but we just opened a window. the location was great only a short walk to Graffton street , The only issue We have was the noise from the traffic at night but that was no fault of the guest house, I would not hesitate a stay in O'Donoghe's next time i visit Dublin.
