The Mia reef was an absolute positive experience. The staff were so nice and wonderful and accommodating rooms were pretty good for being an older hotel. The water is what you go for and it does not disappoint. Small buffet, but food was delicious. We definitely will be going back again.

The room was nice and the view was beautiful, I doubt there is a room with bad view. The food and drinks were alright, but my favorite was the sea food restaurant. We were lucky we only had algae in the sea 1 day out of 4. It was very close to a shopping and restaurant center which was fun to explore at night.

We rented this place mainly for the beach. It is by far the best on the island, incredible is the only word to describe it! Good snorkelling a few steps into the water & shallow so you can float & chill for hours in crystal clear water.
The rooms are run down but very clean daily. Our air conditioner didn’t work & they moved rooms for us.
We were disappointed on our arrival bc the pictures on the website & Expedia are not what we got. All the pics have incredible full ocean views & ours was on the 4th floor so had a partial ocean view that you couldn’t see from the deck sitting. They moved us to the other side of the hotel as all the back ones have full ocean views & are beautiful as on Expedia.
It would be nice to put full or partial ocean view as this would be more accurate. The staff were helpful in accomodating this 2 days later when a room was ready.
Great showers! Beds are reasonably comfortable.
Food was subpar. Good breakfast buffet & the Mexican restaurant was a 5/10. The grill was less than 5. The ceviche bar open all day was delicious. We ate fish, shrimp & octopus tacos every day!
Staff are all incredible. Tip well, they deserve it!! They work hard!!
Lots of loungers & we never had a problem getting some anytime of the day! You ask staff for an umbrella & they set it up where you want it.
The most annoying thing the first few days was the staff trying to sell memberships to the resort. They are very pushy & follow you around. We were firm & they laid off.

The beach and views were 10/10. The hotel, villas, service and food were below par. I wouldn't go back. Moldy curtains, broken locks, shabby room conditions and unless you're a member the beach service is practically non existant. Front desk staff were not helpful. No running water or ability to flush toilet between 12am and 6am for our entire 2 week stay, and staff never answered us or got back to us even though we inquired about it 3 times. The buffet staff were great, food not so much. Just a complete letdown for the amount of money spent.

Incredible location! The beach and scenery was absolutely breathtaking and the view from my room was spectacular. The rooms are a little tired and worn, but you don’t spend a lot of time in them anyway. staff were so kind and attentive food and drinks were fantastic. We will definitely be back.

The Mexican restaurant was good too. Order the taco trio. Storage in the rooms is an issue. Beds and the linens are great. And I’m fussy!

For being the oldest resort and surviving 2 major hurricanes Mia Reef is still a beautiful and well maintained resort. I’ve read reviews that complained about the rooms being out of date, the room was beautiful and clean and we weren’t there for the room. If I had a complaint about the room it would be the bed, small for a queen and rather hard, but we slept so….Couldn’t even tell you if the tv worked lol. We came for the atmosphere and the beach and the ocean and those did not disappoint. The staff was always friendly and welcoming and helpful. We ate at the buffet for several meals and the food was always good, maybe not always “Hot” but never cold ! We have already decided that we will go back and probably try out the villas next time, but we will definitely be going back.

Disgusting. Mold and mildew everywhere. Staff gave conflicting information from one day to the next. Beach chairs were gross and about 30 years old. No hygiene anywhere. Everything felt dirty from the glassware, plates, tabletops, towels, etc. would never recommend this place. Wish we had just checked out on day one.

The rooms are a little dated but still clean and comfortable with great views. The pool was small and cold, but the amazing beach made up for it.
The food at Mia Reef was amazing, one of the best resort buffets I've ever been to.
However the best part of the whole trip was the service!! The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Kimberly Luna, JC and Mike were top-notch in the buffet and bar, and Thomas in the restaurant was also amazing. They all took care of us for the entire week.
I would highly recommend staying at this resort!

Food options were very limited. For the amount this resort costs, this resort is not worth it. The views and the ocean of the beach are beautiful that’s it. Our curtains has had some weird white chalk residue that would get all over you. I told the housekeeper and she said oh that’s how the rooms are. Once again, very limited food options and there’s a time here in the day that there’s no food available. Just keep that in mind.

The trip to MIA Reef was at the right time due to the weather at home. When we arrived on the ferry round trip $35.00 we walked to the resort, 15 minutes. When we arrived everyone was very nice. We were taken to our room 6008, looked just like the pictures on line. I noticed right away, the light switches were not wiped clean, the wood in the room needed to be painted or fixed where there was some damage, the lights on the wall by the bed on both sides had rust around the bottom of the shades and the bathroom was very small with the shower head that was loose. The balcony was nice and right on the ocean side.
We went to the buffet and the food was cold. There was plenty of food to choose from. We found that getting shrimp and steak grilled to order was the best way to go and it was hot. The next night we ate at the Mexican restaurant and the food was good and not cold. The Grill restaurant the next night the food was good but it was all cold. We were told about the Italian restaurant but you had to pay extra for it. I asked some people at the bar about their experience and it was very mixed. We decided not to spend the extra money on an iffy meal. Breakfast was always good and we loved getting made to order omelets every morning. The bar staff, very good and entertaining always with a smile.
The beach small, no problem getting a lounger. The fish come to you so bring bread to feed them.
The resort a 3 the location a 5 loved the water. Glad we went but would not go back

Rooms were very outdated - food was terrible . The 24 hr snack bar was a tray of pastry’s and packaged sandwiches. There is no room service at all . The 2 Al a Cartes were not good at all. We had an “Expedia “ bracelet which differentiated us from the others - which meant we did not have access to premium alcohol. We also only had access to the Italian restaurant and cafe (that served Starbucks) at an additional cost. I will say the staff were very pleasant and the location was incredible . I have been to Isla Mujeres many times but will not be returning to MIA Reef.

The hotel looks shabby. The food leaves much to be desired, with a limited selection and poor taste. Some of the dishes on the menu are not available in the restaurants. Leftover food from breakfast is served for lunch and dinner. There was no \"Do Not Disturb/Clean Room\" sign in the room. We complained twice at the front desk, but they never brought one. The curtains in the room do not close completely, and the light on the balcony stays on until midnight. One night, it stayed on until almost 4 a.m. There are terrible smells in the corridors.
The only good things are the water and sand. We have been to Mexico more than 10 times for work. This time we had the worst experience, and our vacation was ruined.

Stayed for 4 nights for our honeymoon and it was OK.

We got a deal and only paid $425 a night for a villa. If we paid full price, which I think is around $800-$900, I would have been super disappointed, as it’s not worth that much.

I enjoy a lot of seafood and variety of food, and I found the food to be quite good. My wife is a little bit pickier and struggled to find things to eat since the Buffett is small.

The hotel seemed a little run down, and some things seemed dirty.

The villa room seemed fine/nice and we didnt have any issues with that.

The staff are really nice, and service for food and drinks were fast and friendly.

They try to focus on their premium membership a lot, and not all things are included unless you upgrade to their membership, which I think is $100+ per month.

When I go to an all inclusive, I want everything to be included, not only included if I join their membership program.

Since the island the hotel is on is so small, there’s not much to do at the resort. So plan on walking to main land isla mujeres, unless you like sitting on the beach all day.

When I made the reservation I asked for a room for disabled person. I was told it was subject to availability but was noted on my reservation. Upon arrival NO ROOM available. We were given a room with a big motor noise just below our balcony. We could not sleep so we had to insist to move us...first they said no room avaiilable then a room on upper floor was available..The person said normally we would have to charge you for the price difference...it was not adapted to my husband difficulty to walk and cannot shower standing up...for the price we pay per night...a better service would be nice...lots of stairs...ramps are steep and dangerous...mexicain restaurant is great ...internet is weak in the rooms...beach and views are fantastik

The service is exceptional! Probably one of the best service we have received, and we travel to many places.

I have celiac so I was a bit worried about the food situation, but they were amazing, always letting me know what is gluten free and also grilling me fresh fish and meats to ensure no cross contamination. They also have gluten free pancakes and pasta which is incredible!

I need to point out that a few days into our stay I mentioned that the room felt slightly dated, although it honestly wasn’t a major concern because everything else was so great. But Rich at the concierge desk insisted on upgrading us to the honeymoon suite and it was absolutely beautiful with stunning views.

I also want to thank Javier, who took my celiac disease seriously, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout our stay, Rich for the incredible upgrade and for making our holiday even more special, JC at the beach for always keeping our drinks filled with a smile, and Jerry our waiter at the buffet for incredible service! We are so grateful for the care, kindness, and exceptional service we’ve received!

Upon arriving at Mia Reef Resort, it was immediately clear that something was off. The property is extremely outdated and does not reflect the photos advertised online. The lobby was cluttered with numerous suitcases while guests waited for their rooms to become available. Fortunately, our room was ready upon arrival, which spared us additional waiting after a long day of travel.

However, the issues began as soon as we entered the room. The door was old, worn down, and poorly maintained. There was a noticeable odor throughout the room, and the view from the window was unacceptable—a stained white wall. The bed linens were visibly stained, and the pillows appeared unsanitary, with marks that resembled bodily-fluid stains. The bathroom was extremely small with minimal ventilation, making it uncomfortable to use.

The hotel is in serious need of renovation. Additionally, the room was not soundproof at all—we could clearly hear people walking in the hallways and slamming doors throughout our stay.

Due to these issues, I went to the front desk to request a room change. Instead of addressing the condition of the room, I was only offered an upgrade at an additional cost. It felt unfair to be asked to pay more after being completely misled by the hotel’s online photos. So we only were on the resort two hours before checking out and leaving.

Unfortunately, the experience worsened when it came to the food. The quality was very poor—bland and unappetizing.

Upon arrival at the hotel after a long and exhausting journey, the reception desk was busy assisting another guest, and there was no one else available to check us in. As a result, it took approximately 30 minutes before it was our turn to be checked in.

I requested to have the balcony light turned off. Since phone calls were not answered, I had to go to the front desk in person. Even then, it took more than 30 minutes for the light to be turned off.

My return airport transfer, for which I paid 75 USD, never showed up even after waiting for over one hour. When I later requested a refund for this unused service, I received no response.

The service response time was unacceptable. Almost every request took about one hour to receive a response, and reception never answered phone calls.

Additionally, only one blanket was provided for two guests, and we were given only one small bottle of water per person per day.

Overall, the level of service and cleanliness did not meet the standards expected of a five-star hotel.

On a positive note, the variety of food and beverages was good, and the location and ocean were absolutely beautiful.

The beach spot this resort sits in would be enough to easily give this resort a 5 star rating. However everything else is subpar. The food choice is the same every day and lacks taste. They don’t have enough beach towels for everyone so if you get one, you’re likely not able to get a clean one and end up reusing it. Rooms are outdated. No privacy in the bathroom, you can see through. They now charge for the cevicheria, which used to be included and was a highlight food choice. Oh and they also don’t believe in guacamole anymore so even after paying for ceviche, it tastes bland. Whoever runs this resort seems more focused on cost cutting than customer satisfaction. This was my 3rd time staying there and it left me not wanting to go back.

This is a truly beautiful resort with outstanding service from all staff. Everything was excellent—the food and drinks, the clean and well-maintained beach and pool, and the comfort throughout the property, from the lounge chairs to the rooms and restaurants. We felt relaxed and well cared for at all times.

A special thank-you to JC, our beach and pool server, who made our stay exceptional. His attentiveness, friendliness, and consistency stood out every day, and his service genuinely enhanced our experience more than any other amenity. JC represents the high standard of hospitality at this resort and deserves special recognition.

Absolutely beautiful resort. Everything was so clean and neat. The staff was excellent. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating. I am definitely going back for my next vacation.

Las habitaciones son viejas y con falta de mantenimiento general en todo el hotel. La comida es insuficiente, el aforo de los restaurantes es insuficiente y nunca hay lugar en los restaurantes de menu a la carta. Es una pena que siendo uno de los pocos hoteles en mexico en una isla privada se encuentre en esas condiciones.

The property is very old and, even though we paid a ton of money for a deluxe villa, there was no place comfortable to sit. It just had two cheap little plastic chairs besides the bed. The floors were constantly wet, the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor, and the sliding door rattled loudly every time the wind blew. The staff and the service were fantastic so we have nothing bad to say about any of the service we received but the \"all inclusive\" is a bit of a joke. The drinks are watered down, the food is buffet style and mediocre at best. Even the restaurants where you can make a reservation and eat for free has mediocre food. Most of it not even hot. They have bicycles \"included\", but not a single one of them is rideable due to rust, flat tires, and overall neglect. We were constantly hit on by the staff about joining their VIP group which was rather annoying. It's bad enough that you can't walk through town without everybody trying to sell you something but to have that in your luxury hotel as well is just too much.

All inclusive, except the basics. The location is beautiful, the amusement plentiful, the facilities clean, and yet the 4 star level of service isn’t really there. The food was good with attentive service at the buffet and restaurant. They had a nice range of activities which were easy to access and clearly communicated through multiple schedule listings. However, when my daughter wet the bed during her afternoon nap, it took 4 attempts over 4 hours to get fresh linens (the grand finale being me standing in the lobby in a collagen mask and my pajamas at 9:30pm while three staff members spent ten additional minutes searching for linens and the two remaining staff members did their best to ignore me). No apology was offered, and my attempts to follow up with management were brushed off. Then, two days later, housekeeping removed all our towels (they had inexplicably made up the room even though I didn’t put out my placard requesting it), and it took over an hour to get more. I have stayed at hotels ranging from 2 to 5 stars, and I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes for items like blankets or towels. I’m genuinely shocked at how poor their response time was.

Additionally, the hotel offers no laundry services of any kind and guests have to walk about half a mile to a lavanderia get anything cleaned.

I just don’t need someone to offer me drinks all day if I can’t get clean sheets in an appropriate time frame.

The staff were extremely welcoming and allowed us to check-in early and enjoy the property amenities! Would stay here again! The Mexican a-La-carte restaurant was the best resort food I have had! Our server was phenomenal!

Overall was good, best beach you can be on. The staff was nice and very attentive. The food was ok, somewhat mediocre, lack of night time entertainment or somewhat boring shows. The bar closes early, at 10 pm and only one bar really, specialty restaurants were jot great. The property itself was dated, rooms were small. We stayed in a delux room with a very nice view, but instead of 2 queen beds, we got 2 double beds. The bathroom was super tiny. If not for the beach, I would likely not go back, irrespective of how nice everyone was. Still recommend visiting at least once if you are a frequent Cancún traveler and want to enjoy the water, snorkeling, beach, etc. you really can’t beat that beach.

Clean rooms , staff was pleasant, beautiful beaches, great snorkeling and swimming area. The food was good the drinks were good. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a five was every day they tried to talk to you about time shares and they said they could accommodate my needs for gluten free and soy free diet and they could not. So my food choices were very limited. They also don’t state that what they consider top shelf alcohol (Tito’s vodka and many others) is not included. For an extra $100 per day they would include top shelf. JC was fantastic he even delivered drinks in the water.

Hoping they will update the rooms a bit more to fix some of the chipping paint and PLEASE add doors to the bathrooms that close and allow for privacy. We were extremely disappointed with our experience at Mia Reef Isla Mujeres. We had booked an upgraded villa room type, expecting a higher-quality stay, but what we arrived to was nowhere near what was advertised. We ended up leaving immediately after checking in — we didn’t even unpack — because the resort’s condition was unacceptable for a 4-star all-inclusive.

The property overall felt neglected and run down. Outside, there was trash scattered around the grounds, broken outdoor speakers, dirty restaurant windows, and workers performing technical maintenance in guest areas. Nothing appeared clean or properly maintained.

Our “upgraded” room was in even worse condition. It was outdated, dirty, and barely livable. There was a tiny mini-fridge placed directly on the floor with rust around the bottom, water-damage stains on the ceiling, broken light fixtures, stained curtains, and stained cushions on the balcony furniture. The bedding situation was also unacceptable — one queen bed and a cot for two adults and two children, despite booking a villa category.

Dirt and dust were visible along the baseboards and where the walls meet the ceiling. Several fixtures, including the faucet, were rusted or heavily worn. To top it off, there were no towels in the room; they had to be brought separately.

Overall, the condition of the resort felt more like a cheap roadside motel than a 4-star island property. The photos and descriptions online were extremely misleading.

This was the most disappointing and falsely advertised hotel room that I've ever stayed in. I paid almost $400 for a deluxe ocean view room, and based on all of the pictures and the fact it was advertised as ocean view, I would've expected to see the ocean. This was not the case. While sitting on the balcony, the only thing that I had a view of was a slatted wall that hid a bank of air conditioning units. So not only did I not have a view, the only thing I heard was the loud hum of the mechanics of the air-conditioning units. I filed a complaint with Expedia on the blatantly false advertising however, the hotel refuses to respond to Expedia. My advice is not to book at this hotel. There are plenty of other options on the island where you will not be a victim of bait and switch pictures.

We love this place, the staff and location are amazing. Can't find a better beach in Mexico. I do wish they would recover all of the stairs going from the beach to the ocean, very very slippery. We could also do without the membership sales speech, it's pretty heavy used car sales and to be honest we would have bought it but the deal was just better booking online. Abby was great and understanding and in all honesty we have already rebooked to return, maybe they will sweeten the deal when we come back. There were several staff on our trip that made this vacation exceptional and they are more than worth mentioning. JC actually gets in the ocean to bring you drinks, super amazing beach front staff and outstanding service!! Efra very attentive to us at the villa. Kimberly in the buffet was super friendly and always keen to help us learn more espanol. Gabriel and Gerry are great wait staff and very attentive, always remembering our preferences before we could even sit down. Lastly Richie, our concierge was available any time if day to meet 100% of our questions and needs. Can't wait to return in 3.5 months. 100% recommend!

After many trips to Isla Mujeres, I decided to try Mia Reef. You cannot beat the direct access to the beautiful beach and snorkelling without having to leave the property.
Staff - amazing
Water pressure in room - amazing
Beach - amazing
Cleanliness of property and grounds - amazing
Food - great options (including pescatarian and vegetarian)
Atmosphere - relaxing and quiet and safe (music in bar played until after 10 which was loud, but once it was off for the night it was dreamy!)
Activities - snorkelled right off the beach and saw tons of different fish, and loved the daily stretching/yoga on the pier
Will be returning!
