The hotel was in a great location, which was definitely the best part of the stay. However, the hotel itself felt quite run down, with noticeable water damage and very dated rooms and common areas. It did not feel like a 4-star hotel and was overpriced for the overall condition and experience provided.

Clean room. A little bit retro style in the room but still very good. Gym open 24/7 has many equipment but the room is small. Sad the parking area is 300mtr from the hotel. Breakfast is various and good. Staff is very helpful. I recomend this hotel for business trip

Two Night Stay in Rijeka

I'm sure that this used to be a rather grand hotel many years ago but unfortunately not anymore. The place is very dated and in bad need of a refurbishment.

The room's layout was nice with a balcony and bright sun area but this was let down by the many broken and wonky items in the room. Broken lampshades, broken lock on the balcony doors, scuffed bathtub. Also the hotels HVAC system is the old fashioned single pipe system where you can only ever have AC or heating. It is set by the hotel, and is either on one system or the other, you have no choice. Upon checkin my room was about 26 degrees and the only way to cool it was to open the balcony doors. At night the choice was boil or contend with mosquitos.

My room was also next to a smoking balcony where people sat outside and made a lot of noise up to four in the morning and kept me awake. The entire hotel ought to be non-smoking.

Breakfast was a rather sad affair with some rather dubious looking offerings. Not even real orange juice served, tasted like a sugar water mixture. Coffee equally dismal.

The two positives however were the location, being in the heart of the town by all the restaurants, and the staff. I give credit to the hotel staff who were friendly, polite and helpful.

I get the impression the owners of this place are just trying to cut costs all over. I certainly wouldn't stay here until the place is majorly updated.

The air conditioning didn't work well. You had to climb up into a high tub to shower. You have to drive into a one way gated area to reach the lobby and drop off luggage, and then you can drive to a parking garage several blocks away to park. Great walkability to the main city promenade from the hotel. The morning breakfast buffet was AMAZING, and more than made up for the room.

Nice hotel, great location, horrendous parking!

First, the hotel is very nice, the staff are pleasant and courteous and always willing to assist and the breakfast buffet is very good. So top marks all around for those aspects. The Bonavia is also located with very easy access to the shops, bars, restaurants and the promenade.

Now, the description for this hotel states \"Parking Available\", there is, BUT IT IS VERY LIMITED. There are only 14 spaces available immediately outside the hotel. To get to these spaces is extremely difficult! The road to them is blocked off by a barrier at each end, the entrance barrier does have a camera on it so if you have a reservation you need to pull up top to the barrier, look at the camera and inform the hotel staff (on the other end) that you have a reservation, they will then lift the barrier for you. If no spaces are available you will have to find alternative parking (a nightmare scenario to put it nicely!) we struck it lucky and got into one of the spaces.
One thing to look for when driving around (and around) multiple times looking to find a way to the hotel is small white signs with BONAVIA HOTEL written on them; these are situated on buildings (just like regular street signs) directing you the right way to get to the hotel, we only spotted these after we had parked our vehicle!!! They will be very helpful and probably ease your stress big time while trying to find how to drive up to the hotel.

Overall a nice hotel, they could and should do better informing foks about parking.

Great location in the heart of Rijeka near the Korzo street - a car traffic free zone dedicated for pdestrians. The area is very vibrant with plenty of stores restaurants, cafes and events. A favorit gathering place for local and tourists. Overall the room was okay but for a 4-star hotel the amenities and bathroom could be a bit better. In addition, outlets were a bit strange (not standard) and limited and no usb hookups. Hotel score 4/5, location 5/5.

My 5th time (nights) in this hotel from different trips. First night found a bottle of water. Extended a night n no water the next day. Went away n came back fir one more night n no water as well. the location was prime.
The staff at the front desk did not ask us at the check out if we had a pleasant stay, did not wish us a safe trip... I feel that they have some room to grow when it comes to customer service. Also, their dining room service was very slow, the tables were not set up in a timely manner for their next guests. You had to almost set it yourself-no utensils, napkins. They did not attend to their guest to make sure that all of their needs were met. This is our second year coming to the hotel and little if anything has improved. It was the cleaning service staff who thanked us for our visit and extended their wishes for our safe journey.

This is a beautiful hotel with an interesting and long history. The breakfast was absolutely the best you could ever wish for.

The room was upscale, clean and comfortable.

The staff all spoke English and were very professional.

The only negative was a neighboring disco party that went to 1 o’clock in the morning we could hear the music in our room. I don’t think that’s the fault of the hotel, but it’s something to be aware of.

A bit disappointing. I can tell the hotel put money in the common areas but neglected the rooms. Our room had a very uncomfortable bed (very very firm), the walls could use new paint touch up (scratches, marks, scuffs, dirt and grime in many spaces) because it looked dirty, the carpet in the hallways and room had bad odor and looked bad, the main bathroom light did not function, multiple switches and outlets did not work (every time I tried the switch the fuses in box tripped even when nothing was in outlets). It’s a great location of a hotel and the staff are excellent, however we were not comfortable with our stay.

We stayed 2 nights at the start and end of our holiday in Croatia. Found the hotel to be great in every way. Rooms large and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Enjoyed a very reasonably priced and very good evening meal as well. Only downside (same wherever we visited) the Croatians either don't like or can't make hot coffee - always luke warm!! Apart from that a wonderful experience.

I would say this is a 3 star hotel with basic amenities. The shower head wouldn't stay up without holding it, plus it flooded the floor (luckily my towel was there to mop it up!), the tv only worked intermittently and the iron I asked for didn't work at all!
I will visit Rijeka again next year but I doubt I will stay here.

It was warm while we were there and we had a room on the street side. The air coming thru the vent was warm and when we opened the window we had the street noise all night long. Complained to the front desk and they said they couldn’t put on the air as it was October and they were prepared for winter. The outside temp was in the high 60’s and very uncomfortable in the room.

Lovely balcony and view ..... only downside was that guests in the next room were talking very loudly on their adjoining balcony after midnight two nights running which disturbed us from sleep on both occasions.
Inclusive breakfast was excellent with a big choice of cooked / continental foods available.
Would definitely stay here again but would hope for more considerate fellow guests!

This is a great location but tricky to find. Buffet breakfast has a lot to offer. Definitely recommend staying on 7th floor with a view. Room 702 was great. Aside from finding a mostly eaten bag of chips in the mini snack/bar and a flooding shower and sink due to blocked drain, and broken shower hose on the first day. Everything was sorted out promptly. We enjoyed our stay here and the staff were wonderful. I would definitely stay here again.

Best hotel in Rijeka

Bonavia is a fine and efficient four star hotel. On the positive side, the Internet access via Wi-Fi was very fast, the room was very clean, the air conditioning (in spite of 90F) was very efficient, the front desk service was very courteous and efficient. The breakfast that was included in the room rate was standard European breakfast (served in four star European hotels), and the room rate was reasonable. In spite of being located in the center of the city (superbly located), the area is remarkably quiet. On a downside, like most (non-American) European four star hotels, there is no doorman to assist you with your luggage (you will have to carry your luggage ten steps up to the lobby since there is no ramp for the handicap guests), lobby is diminutive, parking (surcharge) is on the public street and may be a challenge to find a parking spot. The garden restaurant caters exclusively to the bus tours (for dinner) and it is off limits to individual gusts. I was offered a table inside a completely empty room that was obviously not acceptable to me. My recommendation is to ignore the restaurant all together. There was no extra electrical outlets in the room or bathroom to charge your Iphone, shaver, or a laptop computer (you must unplug the standing lamp). If you adjust your expectation, you may enjoy staying there. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

1st bad review in 3 was 8 or more hotels

For a four star, the service was poor. Housecleanerswere great, desk staff pleasant but didn't put much effort in to explain parking. Had free parking listed as a search requirement, parking wasn't free. Grateful to be in the hub of the action, but for some reason all street noise carried right into room. Fitness facility is awful. Breakfast was very good, but again staff inattentive.

We enjoyed our stay and found the hotel well located for exploring Rijeka. The wellness facility offered good treatments, a sauna and steam room. The staff was very forendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious, clean and well appointed. It was also close to the ferry port. We enjoyed our brief stay at the hotel and in Rijeka.

This was a return to this hotel after a long hiatus. Still for us four star but hotel looks and fell bit tired. No air condition in hallways nor was the one working in our room. Front desk was ready to help fix this. There is no coffee maker in the room which is big miss especially since we had delux room with great balcony and view. It would be big plus if they install one in the rooms. We eat in hotel restaurant which is highly recommended. Service and food was excellent. Good choice of local wine. Again, aver all will give four star.

Excellent hotel. All hotel staff were very friendly and spoke very good English. I'm told Croatian children all learn English, Italian, and German at a very young age (3rd grade). The restaurant served very good food, but it was more expensive than all the many restaurants within minutes walking distance from the hotel. I especially liked my balcony room on the 6th floor. After a long day at work I enjoyed sipping a glass of wine on the balcony while looking at the beautiful view of the town, harbor, and mountains in the background. Do not change money at the airport....too expensive. They have a money exchange very near the hotel (less than 5 minutes walking) with much better rates open until 8 or 9 PM.

I arrived hot and sweaty after a train ride from Ljubljana. Check in was simole and it was a warm and genuine welcome to Rijrka. The shower and bathroom facilities were good. And a great breakfast. And it is a short walk to some great outdoor restaurants along the water.

The staff was very helpful and very welcoming. I really enjoyed my stay there. This hotel is right in the center of Rijeka and is very conveniently located to the bus and the shops. They also have parking available. I love their bathroom. It had excellent water pressure.
