The property offers reasonable value due to its central location for the price. Otherwise, it is an aging property that desperately needs renovations and upgrades. It doesn't feel antique, but tired. The staff was indifferent--late to open for breakfast, forgetting to buy cheese for breakfast (a staple), not setting up our room properly... My children didn't find the sofa beds comfortable. Looking back, I'd probably pay more and just stay elsewhere.

Odd check in, mixed bag.

Check in was 3-7. We arrived about 4:30. The doors were locked and there was no response when we rang the bell. We had to go to the bar next door, where they gave me the personal number to call. He showed up a few minutes later.

On the plus side, The room was relatively large for Italy. Breakfast was included.

On the down side Furniture was old. Breakfast was sparse. The proprietor barely acknowledged us. Would not choose this place again.

If you are expecting to sleep in a castle room that looks like the picture you see on the website, you will be quite frustrated. The place is actually a backpackers low budget type of place that has nothing to do with the gorgeous picture and web site description and the worse part of this already horrible experience, it gets even worse if you ask for a refund.

Small B&B, convenient location

Pantaneto Palazzo Bulgarini is a small B&B located near Il Campo, the main piazza in Sienna. Our room was very large with a beautiful 18th century handpainted ceiling. We had a small balcony with a great view of the surrounding countryside. The décor in our room was not great – a modern gray sofa that did not go with the antique wood furniture, a large, modern ceiling lamp that detracted from the 18th century ceiling mural (a chandelier would go much better). While the room was clean, it needs better upkeep. The shower head was broken, the shower stall would clog, the shelf above the sink was missing. Breakfast had limited choices. Michael was pleasant and helpful but only around in the morning. There is no front desk and you have to notify your arrival time.

Great location, decent room

We booked the family room as we wanted the balcony and view, and what a view it was. 10/10 for that.
Room was spacious, great central location close to plenty of bars and restaurants.
The property listing mentions massages and a full spa service but this is not the case at all, we asked and there aren’t any spa services available so this was misleading.
Also when it mentions toiletries there was handsoap available, but no shampoo, shower gel etc so be sure to bring your own.
Staff were friendly and checkin was easy.

The room is nice. It large and the bed is comfortable. The breakfast was simple but fine. Beware, however, that the street below is very noisy and the noise continues well into the night. I was there three week nights and it sounded the bar songs and street parades were nearly right outside my window not quieting down before 3:00 am. I learned from friends this is typical. Consequently, a great location if you plan to be part of the “party street” but not good if you need to get up in the morning and want to sleep before 3:30 am.

We were in room “Marguerite” and were amazed by the hand painted, domed ceiling, as well as the antiques and period decor. We enjoyed being close to the Plaza di Duomo, as well as being on a street with many bars and restaurants. We enjoyed a lovely dinner down the street. Pickup and delivery of our car was done by a local garage, and the garage operator helped us with our luggage. The only disappointment was breakfast was not the best we’ve had during our stays.

I was underwhelmed by this B&B. The amenities were lacking. There were no drinking glasses in the room, there were no tissues in the room, there was only one tiny bar of soap for showers and the sink and it was never replenished there was only one roll of toilet paper. Just the basic things you would expect to find in a B&B for this price. The house keeper never cleaned our room the second night and we didn’t have any toilet paper or fresh towels. The breakfast was sparse and mediocre for a B&B. The staff were never around. And not very eager to be helpful or friendly. Overall I don’t think very much effort has gone into making this a desirable place to stay.

I booked this property whilst staying at another property on my honeymoon because I didn’t think we were going to be able to stay an additional night. While I’m sure this property is fine to stay at, it’s very disappointing they wouldn’t give me at least a partial refund and sell the room to someone else for the night to be able to make the full rate back. I explained the situation thoroughly and they didn’t seem to care.

The young man who runs the place was delightful, helpful and very friendly. When we arrived he offered to upgrade us to a suite with a private bath for only an extra 10 Euros a night, which was a nice surprise. The location is prefect and the views from the windows of the room were beautiful.

The room was quirky with a pretty painted ceiling and nice furniture. Lovely and clean with a nice sized bathroom. Basic but tasty breakfast, heavy on cakes and pastries. We stayed on Friday night and the street outside was very noisy with bars and loud live music, this did stop at around 11pm though. The best thing about the B&B was the friendly staff - couldn't have been nicer.

Smaller room than picture made appear when booking. A free standing a/c unit that did not do much for room, we were there in September and the heat in the room was horrible and difficult to sleep. I was happy to only be there for one night and happier to check out! Overall, outdated and very small room. Sorry to say, but overall displeased. No frills or perks except for the neat pictures painted on ceiling Location was ok.

The ideal Hotel for a Siena Sojourn

The Hotel is very near to the main attractions in Siena (Piazza Il Campo, the Duomo, etc) in a very old building well updated inside into some very comfortable rooms. We stayed in the family suite that has two bedrooms, and loved the location, the charm of the building, and everything about the facility. Despite being there during a real heat wave, the room was cool, and we barely needed the A/C unit. The windows face to the outer gardens between the main city streets and the city walls, and being on a hillside, there was a delicious breeze through the open windows (as well as a stunning view of the sunrise). Breakfast was great, served in a somwehat small room but certainly adequate, and the beds were extremely comfortable after long days of touring, walking and climbing in the superb hillside towns so very convenient to Siena by car.. Most importasnt, the welcome from Donatellolwas incomparable. Always friendly and smiling, he was the perfect host, and went far out of his way to not only make us welcome, but to help with parking issues and to arrange for approval by the City to use our American Handicapped Parking placard. His truly gracious air made our visit really memorable. The hotel is also close to some excellent restaurants (recommended by Donatello0 that also made for a truly memorable and impressive stay.

We stayed for 2 nights and loved this charming B&B! Such a beautiful location with a serene view! Our room was HUGE.. spacious and comfortable, although without AC the breeze from the large windows made it feel like we weren't even in a hotel. Josh was a great host, extremely helpful and the breakfast in the morning with pastries and cappuccino was lovely. We can't find anything but amazing things to say about B&B Pantaneto Palazzo Bulgarini!

Wonderful old building with a spacious room. The owners provided us with a great breakfast and were very accommodating. The only drawback is that it's on a busy street so I would recommend getting a room that faces the back to reduce the noise.

Great location-we arrived by train and the directions to the B&B state take escalator - well there is 8 escalators to get to the main street and 30 minute walk. Keep an eye on street names. We stayed in the room with external bathroom. The room has a nice view; but the room was probably the library room once by the early 1900's and needs to be updated. The bathroom is across the hall and is a nice size. Abit of a hassle having an external bathroom; but we knew that before arriving. Josh was very helpful and make a wonderful breakfast. We stayed here for 3 nights. I would stay again only in the room with internal bathroom.

This hotel doesn't have the parking it states in the information

The hotel is in the centre of Siena which is a ZTL restricted area, basically if you have a rental car you can't go in. The nearest parking is probably about a mile to the hotel and there aren't many spaces there, so you need to get lucky to get a space.

It is a B&B so can't really rate hotel'service' but for what you get from a B&B it is fantastic. She meets you at the building. For people that have trouble walking I would not advise as there are many steps and parking is a long walk for hauling suitcases, but for us...it was great.We actually wanted to stay longer but all rooms were fully booked. Our room looked out at so many tees and the sounds of birds was lovely.

Great location, walkable to main sights.

Lovely large rooms and pleasant owner. Very economical. B&B is on the second floor and she helps carry bags up the steps. However, she was only around in the mornings for breakfast so you need to be be prepared to be on your own the rest of the time. WiFi was not working while we were they, which was difficult for us.

We stayed at the B&B for a few nights in Nov. Sara was very attentive, answered our questions and helped us locate items we needed. The room was very large and spacious for two of us (we were in a triple room) and the bathroom was just as large. Views were pretty and the location overall was perfect to see Siena. Breakfast was good, coffee made to your request. I would stay here again.

Charming B&B but our room on the street very noisy

We spent one night at the B&B. The room was charming and old fashioned, with an arched, painted ceiling and antique furniture. The bed was squeaky but quite comfortable. This is a small hotel, so the breakfast was not a big variety, but it was well prepared and filling. The big problem was the noise in our room at night. We had a room overlooking the street, and the hotel is across the narrow street from a bar. We were there on Saturday night, and the music and talking was very loud (with windows shut) until early in the morning. My wife and I slept with earplugs or we wouldn't have slept at all. Other rooms not on the street might be better.

Sarah, one of the owners, was wonderful and very helpful. There were certain things however that were not expected. Such as the towels were not changed on a daily basis and coffee cups not changed or cleaned. Without dish detergent I could not clean them either. I did know there was no air-conditioning, but with only one small fan, it was quite uncomfortable. We tried opening up the windows, but without screens, the flies and mosquitos were eating us up! In addition, the Internet was not working for our first three nights. I'm sure with a few upgrades, this establishment will be able to get high ratings. I am still happy to have met Sarah and to have stayed in such a wonderful City as Siena! In addition, I would rather like to return if she makes improvements!

Room and bathroom are nice. Siena has bad parking situation and on top of that it was raining. A little bit more help from the staff would have made the stay better. People in general seem rude in Siena because they can't speak much English.

We loved our stay here. It is within the walls of old Siena and in a fantastic location. It's a very small B&B and has been recently purchased by new owners and they are working to make it even better. It is an incredible value and we had an interior courtyard room and our view of the city wall and the beautiful countryside was spectacular.

Great Location, good view, good service

It was a great place. Convenient to City Central sightseeing and dining, easy walk from the bus station, easy to locate. The room was very nice (our own bath was down the hall, but it was just fine), comfortable and view from the room was great with a lot of green space and the old city wall and beyond. The breakfast was plentiful. Donatello was very kind and helpful. You just can't beat this place for the price, service and quality.

Excellent setup in a great location. Rooms can get warm with no air-con especially in the additional bedroom away from any windows.

No door on additional bedroom.
Room was quiet as we were in a back room away from front lane way.
Bathroom was excellent - something of a rarity in our travels.

We enjoyed the large room with windows that opened to a garden behind with beautiful views of the city. We also enjoyed our time visiting with Sara as she served breakfast in a nice, quiet atmosphere. Wifi worked only when we were close to the office router.

Our first night was spent in the Iris room, which was disappointing. There is a nice frescoe on the ceiling, but the decor is very 50s and the window looks out onto an unattractive, small interior coutyard. The people in the apartment downstairs were very loud until all hours, so we didn't get much sleep. We asked to change rooms and were given the Tulip room for our next 2 nights. This was a huge improvement, much lighter, quiet and with a stunning view out to the countryside. The private bathroom is across the hall, but that didn't bother us.
Tea & coffee making facilities, but no milk provided, so we had to ask if we could use the fridge in the breakfast room to store the milk we bought.

The room was huge, clean , lots of closet space, near Il Campo. Breakfast was good and filling . Although we were near Il Campo, the view from our room of the surrounding countryside was beautiful and peaceful and not like a city at all. I will definitely stay here again but longer next time !

This B & B was well situation in the old city of Siena, Italy. The room opened up onto a spectacular panorama of the city and beyond. Only a 5 minute walk to El Campo, and another 5 to the Duomo. The room was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was generous with a variety of offerings suitable for most tastes. Our hostess Sara was especially helpful and spoke good English. Some excellent restaurants within a couple minutes walking. Easy walk to the main bus stop to make day trips or get to the train station.

This B&B gives wonderful service, cleanliness, and comfort at good value. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. Breakfast includes local Sienese specialties and is substantial enough to carry me through the day till dinner. I asked for a room with a view and got it. My bathroom was outside of the room but private. Siena can be noisy at night, but my room at the back of the hotel was not. I highly recommend this B&B and hope to be able to return!

Nice room - very noisy throughout the night

Lovely 14th Century building (once you get past the hallway). Inside the room is good, with TV, nice bathroom. A few things to note. Wifi in room was not working, the shower scolded me a few times (hot / cold, and didn't keep the temperature constant for longer than 2 seconds). The noise during the day is fine, with the City view room it literally means a view of the street that the hotel is on. The biggest gripe about the B&B was to do with the noise at night. Every 15 mins there seemed to be a car or moped going past, and the noise was like the vehicle was in the room. I had a very poor sleep as did my partner. On arrival I had to ring the bell several times with no answer, and then had to call the number for the nice manager to come out. She was helpful - however the noise and the lack of sleep of the room ruined what could have been a quaint stay in a room with a bit of character.
