The hotel is in a perfect location with beautiful sea views, walkable distance to centre of town and in a quieter location. The hotel staff were so welcoming, attentive and friendly. Our room was beautiful with an amazing view. The amenities were plentiful. We had dinner at Il Capitano and it was amazing. Will definitely come back and stay here again

Absolutely amazing views from the balcony every morning. I could sit all day and watch the boats come and go! Our balcony was not completely private as diners sitting in the dining area can see onto the balcony, but otherwise, a wonderful stay.

I love this place. Excellent service. My room was upgraded to a room with a nice view to the beach. Personnel had a wonderful customer service. Food and drinks were great, specially the welcom drink. The location of the hotel is a little far from port but t is worth the walking distance. Next time i will stay in this hotehotel

While the location and building were exceptional. Since the reopening the staff was all very very very young, and inexperienced. Offering many apologies and no solutions. The staff rotated positions with no one leading the way. Even the cappucino's were inconsistent and would make any proper Italian cry. Breakfast omelet maker lacked any training. OJ was from a bottle and not fresh. This property is now an Instagram phenom with no depth .....

Very impressive hotel and more importantly a fantastic staff. We had a sea view suite with an expansive balcony, private sauna and incredible view. The restaurant, Il Capitano, was one of the best we experienced in town in terms of service and quality. From check-in to checkout, the experience was seamless. Beware of the over 300 stair steps you’ll climb to reach the property, but the view is worth it!

This property was wonderful. The staff was friendly and super helpful with information about the area and dining options. The breakfast is fantastic overlooking a beautiful view of the Mediterranean - fruits, veggies, cheeses, made to order eggs, pastries, etc. The cooking class was great, some of the best food we had. The room we had was large. The hotel is also located in a great area, close to lots of restaurants, shopping and the beach.

What a great place. Staff was incredible. Being there on the shoulder season was a great idea. I can see where it would get very busy during peak season. My wife and I are in our mid 60s and we struggled with all the steps in Positano but we did it. Montemare is very strategically located…not too high on the cliff…not to low. Great experience…get on the water. It’s cheap and easy.

My husband and I were blown away by the service at the hotel, which started the moment we arrived. EVERYONE was beyond attentive, kind, interested, and helpful. One of the staff members even walked over to where we were eating at the hotel restaurant next door (with the most spectacular view of the harbor, I might add) to check on us and make sure everything was going well. I couldn't pass by the lobby without the staff members standing up out of respect. We had been robbed on our way leaving Venice and needed to make a police report; rather than just pointing the way to the police station, the hotel sent a staff member who speaks English to accompany us and assist with the local policeman who took the report; as it turns out, the local officer did not speak any English, so we would not have been able to make the report without the help of the staff member. The views were beautiful, and the room was very clean, large and comfortable, with bright and cheerful decor. They even delivered a little gift each night as a thank you That, in addition to fresh flowers and a bottle of Prosecco in the room when we arrived. Sitting on the lobby balcony for breakfast each morning was a highlight. But, the overall best compliment I can pay this wonderful establishment has to be that they are training their staff to be the most attentive in the industry- not in an annoying, excessive way but in a kind, soft and caring manner. Just go and experience it for yourselves!

The hotel Montemare exceeded our expectations. The staff was incredible, professional, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to tend to our every request whether it was a local guide or local hair salon. I would make but one suggestion, that they let visitors know it’s OK to stop on the road side and run in to lobby for assistance with luggage etc. We were hesitant to stop and ended up going down and around Positano a second time.

We stayed at Hotel Montemare for our honeymoon and we absolutely loved our experience there. When we arrived, they helped confirm all our restaurant reservations, showed us on a map where everything was located, and afterwards treated us to welcome drinks. Our room was beautiful and there was a lot of attention to details. The view of Positano was magnificent, and the hotel is conveniently located close to the ferry terminal and beach. We were sad to leave, and would highly recommend staying at the hotel.

We were very disappointed with our room. It was over priced. And the biggest issue is that it looks nothing like what you see in the picture when you’re booking. Also, we paid extra for a sea view. And the view was partly of the wall of another building. If you went out on the patio and turned then you could see the sea. But not really a view of Positano, just of the water. Also, there was a musty smell in the room, it was especially bad in the bathroom.

The Hotel Montemare was a lovely property on the hills above downtown Positano. The staff could not have been more lovely. They greeted us every morning and evening when we entered and left the property. We especially enjoyed (and will miss) the expansive continental breakfast offerings and coffees and attentive service every morning on the beautiful veranda with gorgeous sea views.

Note that the foam beds were very firm which I did not find ideal for restful sleep.

The room was good, really. The staff speaks a lot about \"charges\" and \"money\". Even for things like excess water in the room. Other similar hotels did not do this. LOTS of steps to get down to the beach. The hotel restaurant has this strange thing where, if you go, EACH person must spend at least 60 euros for the meal. The food was fancy, but not as good as other offd in the village proper.

Awesome hotel! Outstanding staff - truly outstanding. The breakfast was included and was great, but - and I'm not sure why - they elected to charge extra $$ for a handful of ala carte dishes. In any case, the free breakfast was a Top 3 location on our 2 week trip to Italy/Sicily. You definitely won't be disappointed. Also, the Hotel had a free wine-tasting each night from 5p - 7p. Again, this was terrific. No gym and no pool. Location is truly perfect to enjoy both the beach and city center areas. We really appreciated the new shower set-up in the updated rooms ;). Thank you again to all the staff at Montemare for a great 3 nights in Positano!

I would 100% recommend Hotel Montemare. The staff are truly wonderful and go way out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Lattes to go, endless dinner reservation call shears for us, and little gifts on the door each night. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a partial ocean view and it was perfect. The location is perfect. A 15-30 minute trek up the hill but ideal to be away from the cruise ship people traffic that’s closer to the shore. And all the great restaurants are here by the hotel. Our favorite restaurant for food, vibe and panoramic views though was the one right at the hotel rooftop. We loved our stay and I’m not a person to write reviews but we feel grateful for our time at Hotel Montemare.

Can I come back now?

This property was lovely. The customer service from first stepping foot in the hotel was so high touch. Reception walked us through a map, provided dinner recommendations and honestly just the water upon arrival when dripping in sweat is lovely. The views from this hotel are so beautiful and we loved having a balcony to enjoy. As two people, we felt there was a good amount of space in the room for us and our luggage and to move around. I wish we could have spent more time in this hotel. Staff were all amazing, thank you for a great stay!

I wouldn't advise anyone to choose this hotel. It's excessively expensive and falls short in terms of amenities and service. Despite paying $1500 per day, there's no operational bar for snacks or drinks. While they do offer daily wine tasting from 5-7, the quality of the wine is low, and they don't provide snacks to accompany it. Additionally, the hotel lacks room service and a spa. The only highlight is the complimentary breakfast, which is excellent. However, considering the high cost of $1500 per night, I had anticipated superior amenities and service. I would rate this hotel 5/10.

From the arranged transfer from naples airport till the moment we left the staff here were wonderful and took care of any request we had! The room was spacious compared to other hotels in Positano and the breakfast buffet in the morning was perfect and convenient. Only downside was the far walk down to the main beach which is to be expected in Positano. Otherwise, we hope to be back!

Rooms were basic, nothing over the top for the price.. Staff was very accommodating until day of departure. We were being rushed out due to a limo bus blocking the road. People screaming at us to leave now. We would have preferred assistance instead of demands. Breakfast was nice. Restaurant good, but over priced like many things in Positano, but know that coming in. Overall, I think this is a 3 Star Hotel in an extremely popular place. Most likely better then most, but level your expectations for this beach town.

My partner and I were welcomed to this beautiful property by a lovely girl with all the information we needed during our stay. While we waited for our room we relaxed on the terrace with a delicious cocktail provided by the hostess. The room was impeccably clean and had an amazing view. Everyday we came back to a little gift from the hotel, from champagne to homemade cookies and candy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options and a nice touch with freshly squeezed OJ. There are a lot of options for accommodations in Positano. I think this was a perfect hotel with easy access to transportation, lots of dining options within walking distance, amazing views and outstanding staff.

HOWEVER, if traveling to or from with luggage I advise using porters at dock to deliver luggage but keep valuables in backpack on you. The trek by foot is steep either by road or stairs. There is no option at port for taxi or shuttle. Porters use small motorized carts. Other than that we loved the hotel and regret booking only one night. We opted for private van at departure to take us to Naples train station which was suggested by staff and well worth it. They made all arrangements for us!

We had the absolute best time here! The staff is exceptional. Anna and Grazia as well as other staff members went above and beyond to make our stay here special. The hotel is beautiful and they put a lot of effort into doing the little things that count. The hotel is owned by 5 brothers and each brother works in a different area of the hotel and their children also work at the reception desk and other areas of the hotel. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making sure that their guests have a wonderful time.

The breakfast is pretty good! We enjoyed how it was different each day. I recommend getting the suite that has the hot tub outside, ,it was amazing and the view was impecable. We will be back here for sure, I highly recommend staying here! Thank you everyone!

This is the hotel to stay when you are in Positano! When you arrive at the hotel, you will be greeted warmly and served with a welcome cocktail. Complimentary breakfast is included everyday and if you are taking the ferry to Capri they can even pack it for you. Everyone is so friendly there and make you feel very welcome. We were lucky during our stay, In the evening there is a complimentary wine happy hour during our stay.

We came from Naples and paid a lot for our Hilton hotel at Naples and their standard is nowhere near Hotel Montemare's service.

They have a back entrance to and from the beach although you will have to climb a lot of steps if you take this route back. This is good if you are planning to catch the early ferry to visit Capri or other village. If not you can always walk along the road and enjoy the scenic view and check out the different restaurants which is highly recommended.

Not only that, as expedia vip members we were also given a bottle of sparkling wine.

This hotel was in a great location in Positano, as well as had some of the best views! The staff was very helpful. Our room was upgraded and absolutely beautiful views with jacuzzi. The property was very clean, and the facilities and amenities were very nice. The welcome drink on arrival was a sweet touch. Breakfast every morning was delicious, especially with the view. There were nightly happy hours, and little treats left on door at night which were really nice touches. They helped us organize our transport from Naples to Positano. I would absolutely recommend this hotel, and will definitely love staying here on my next trip to Positano!

Beautiful hotel! Perfect view from the lower level of Viale Pasitea. Room and bathroom are spotless, as are the common areas--both of which offer spectacular views! The front desk is run by a group of about 5 women who do EVERYTHING—-serve breakfast, check you in, arrange taxis and reservations, Clean the common areas, everything. They do it all with a smile on their face and are amazing. I couldn’t give the service they provide high enough stars. (They even arranged a taxi for us after we had checked out of Hotel Montemare and checked into another hotel, in Sorrento, which was unable to get us a taxi to take us to the airport!)

The location is also perfect for walking into the heart of Positano (8 minutes via steps or 15mins by road) and for dining options.

The restaurant at the property, however, is another story. (And I don't mean the place where they serve breakfast or have a bar--which are both fantasic. It's the Il Capitano restaurant that I'm referring to.) It may be the worse restaurant I’ve been to in Italy (and I’ve been to Italy MANY times). The service is nearly nonexistent, the portions would be small for kid size, the flavor of the food is decent, but nothing that you would want to come back for. It's saving grace is its view of the sea and the Positano geography--absolutely spectacular! But still not worth the price they charge for their sub-par food.

I would return to Hotel Montemare every time I visit the Amalfi Coast, just dine elsewhere for dinner.

The morning breakfast spread was well done. The hotel is well situated near lots of the shops and other restaurants. Our only wish was that there might be a dip pool to cool off after all the stairs/hills.
