Haka Hotel Wanaka -A very nice place to stay. A summary:
- Pre-arrival contact: We were contacted before our arrival to confirm the booking, etc.;
- Parking: Parking is available at the hotel for guests, but may be limited. Check with hotel when booking.
- Check-in: Check-in was very efficient and helpful;.
- Room readiness: The room was ready and very well presented.
- Bathroom + toiletries: the bathroom was very clean and the toiletries were very nice;
- Storage/cupboards: There was clothes hanging space and drawers.
- Tea and coffee making: There was tea and coffee making and a small refrigerator.
- Bed: The bed was very nice to sleep in.
- Pillows: There were 2 pillows per person.
- Locality/restaurants/shops: The location is very central and there were many restaurants, cafe's, shops and convenience stores within walking distance. The main shopping, area of the city is also within walking distance.
- Hotel dining - no dining is available in-house.
- Laundry for guests: there is a laundry but note it is credit card use only, no coin operation.

It was hard for me to sleep of those Bed Bunk, uncomfortable mattress and of my old age. It should be better room for myself. There was too many ladies of one men person. 5 ladies and 1 men.

Chill in sexy Wanaka

Stayed single room twin bed ensuite.
Private rooms are expensive in Wanaka. By far the first most expensive private room in NZ.
All good with essentials however which the bathroom are equipped with heater.
2 minutes walk to Four Square grocery and lots of eateries.
Only negative issue is bathroom is very cold in private room ensuite as there is no heater as compared to Haka Tekapo which has heater in both room and bathroom.
The detergents are diluted with 10% detergent and 90% water, guess that’s to save cost.
I bought my own detergent (not expensive from brand Pam’s) from four square to make sure the oily utensils are cleaned and oil free.

The location is fantastic, and the amenities were excellent, making it a comfortable base for exploring the area. However, I did encounter a few cleanliness issues. Despite requesting a thorough vacuuming of spiders and ants, they remained in the same spots when we returned, which was a bit disappointing. With a bit more attention to room upkeep, this place could be perfect.

Limited on-site paid parking but the near by area allows overnight parking from 6pm to 8am. Then 240 min free parking during 8am to 6pm. No re-parking during the day after using your 240min free parking. Since we are out during the day, it worked for us.

Most guests try to keep the kitchen clean but the kitchen can use a few improvements. Like…. Fixing the chipped shelves/counter top, providing a (window) squeegee to clean/wipe the wet stainless steel countertop . This would reduce the need of towel cleaning also. Add food scrap strainers to the sinks.

Haka house is a very easy choice for financial savings with clean bedding. On the flip side, there is no monitoring of how the kitchen area is maintained during/after use.
It’s obvious that the “children” are not monitored to be sure they clean up after themselves. I would expect an hostel to have some type of policy in place during busy kitchen hours. Every kitchen use required avoiding someone’s mess that was left behind.

Good location close to the main part of town. The water pressure was really poor and the heaters in our room and bathroom were also really poor. The shared areas were nice and the fireplace in both were great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall probably pretty good for a hostel but still could be better.

We had a self contained unit with bathroom and kitchenette. It was clean, had everything we needed, was close to everything, and everyone was really friendly. The bathroom was tiny and the decor was a little tired but it was clean and the beds were really comfortable. In short, it is fantastic, value for money accommodation

We know that this is a hostel but at least there should be a time for other guests to minimize noises. We stayed at an ensuite private room no. 3, next room no. 4 who were so noisy, at 11:45pm I couldn't help myself but knocked on their wall to signal that they were so noisy. Even just a notice on each room's wall no minimize the noise from 11pm, other guests need to rest and sleep. Thanks.

We stayed for 3 nights (not in a row) in the ensuite unit .
We were looking for budget accomodations at Wanaka. Unit was pretty small and basic, but sufficient for a couple. It had good shower. Communal kitchen was clean and managed. However, in the last stay sheets were not clean. Noise could be heard from the corridor if that might an issue. Overall we had a nice stay, and would recommend it as budget accomodation.

Alright for a night!

Has everything you need for a nights stay- good facilities and plenty to keep you occupied. We stayed in a private room with shared kitchen/bathroom facilities. The only downside was the bathroom was abit dated and the shower leaked a lot! Also the hooked lock on the door allowed it to open slightly for others to see in but apart from that everything else was great and would stay again.

The hostel was great for what we needed. A clean, safe, conveniently located place to sleep and rest. The view from the hostel was beautiful, there was a big kitchen and common area for people to use. It felt like a nice community, a more authentic experience. The room was small and the hostel itself had no frills to it which we were completely fine with.

Staff were so friendly and helpful, recommended me to do a 2 hour kayak ride that I thoroughly enjoyed! Clean and spacious, for the 3 bed dorm I got the bed that wasn’t a bunk and it included a private shower and toilet!

Close to town center and across the road from the New World. The fire was going and definitely perfect for the winter season. Room was good size I found bed comfortable hubby found it to hard but hey ya can't please everyone. Toilet hadn't been cleaned so did it myself. The reception staff were good. Easy check in process and simple check out both guys friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend for affordable comfortable accommodation

bed bugs n old tired hostel

I had been to a couple of YHA in this trip n this is my worst stay in past 3 weeks.

i gotten bites from bed bugs, bed are making noise... the entire place looks v tired n old.
My room mate is using the bathroom/toilet for 1.5hrs, this is really bad for ensuite.

i paid cash upon arrival n was charged again in my credit card. issuing a receipt is not their policy. Although refund is done after appealing to them, it is a hassle to do so. The staff, Jane told me there is no record in their system that is indicated paid when i went back to the hostel to appeal.

Refund was credit back to my credit card few days later but shortfall of a few dollars just because of their neglience n i need to bear their cost.

Kitchen is clean n neat though, toilet is narrow n tiny.

I was amazed by all people stayed in the hotel. They keep kitchen and cookware clean. The facility is quite busy. The room we stayed in (we stayed in a private room with bathroom inside ) is a little small.

The room was clean enough, what you'd expect from this type of accommodation but the bathroom was a let down. It is so pokey and narrow that it is almost non functional. The property needs a bit of TLC as it looks a little tired but overall, it's ok. The staff however are awesome. They were very friendly and made the stay more enjoyable.

Staying in this YHA has changed my mind on staying in hostels as all other nights on my trip I had booked hotels and lodges, I didn't really expect I would enjoy staying here with so many other occupants sharing kitchen together but the kitchen was very well looked after and most importantly CLEAN!
