We arrived at Renvyle House Hotel and were met by three receptionists who were super friendly and helpful. They arranged for someone to carry our cases to our rooms. Our rooms were very comfortable and had lovely views of the sea. Dinner and breakfast were brilliant with fresh fruit and breads made on the premises. The staff in the restaurants were very attentive. This hotel has lovely walks around it and has an outdoor pool and a hot tub which was so relaxing looking out towards the Atlantic. I am looking forward to returning soon.

I felt so warmly received by everyone. It was a beautiful historic place and I’m happy that I made the drive. What a lovely time. My particularly liked the musicians in the bar. The manager showed us our parking spot directly by walking in front of our car was very sweet. It was a nice wonderful place.

Comfortable, beautiful place - great food - both bar and restaurant. Lovely relaxed vibe.

Ideal spot for a getaway. Spectacular walks in the area are an additional bonus.

Can't speak highly enough about this place.

Did I mention the staff? Friendly, courteous and professional without being overbearing.

A gem of place on the edge of the water

Fantastic stay, first time & will be back with more of the family. What a location, on the water, sea water swimming, hot tub overlooking the water, hot outdoor pool, great breakfasts, cosy bar & plenty of comfortable chairs & rooms to lounge in & sip coffee, read the papers/ book, or simply chill out. Lovely walks around the lake & sea & gardens. A total gem of a place. The staff & manager, Ann Marie could not have been more friendly & helpful. We will be back!

If you would like Old World Charm, character and a top notch staff catering to your every need, this is the place to stay at. It's a lovely location, right on the water on a beautiful property that is full of Kodak moments. They have croquet, outdoor pool, jacuzzi with a fabulous view of the bay and a variety of rooms on the main floor for reading, relaxing & refreshing. The pub has nice carved wood and charm. The best is the service, which is exemplary, attentive and first class. My only negative, is the bathrooms in the rooms are a bit dated, and could be updated. It's like you went back 50 years in time, but they are fully functional. The morning breakfast was wonderful, and recommend the eggs benedict.

Connemara classic!

A true haven nestled in the beautiful surrounds of Connemara. Linda and Ann Marie were on top of everything, as always, during my most recent stay and their largely international staff are more Irish than ourselves with their open welcome and accommodating nature. They could not do enough for the guests. One was more friendly and attentive than the next. I availed of the fantastic heated outdoor pool in the starry Galway night. Heaven. I have been coming here for nearly 20 years and the food quality has never waned. Exceptional as always and great to see they still offer the same welcome to our canine friends as well. Like Arnold, I will be back!!!

You couldn't get any further west

Renvyle House is old fashioned in the best kind of way. The service is excellent and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was a great surprise, it was top quality and really well cooked. A good mix of fresh fish as well as game and the usual steaks etc. Overall the best compliment I could pay the hotel is that I'll be back (and its a 4 hour drive from my house) .

Three star at best, pleasant stay.

Absolutely beautiful setting on the coast, the hotel is country style quaint, unfortunately its not been kept up to the standard I recall on my first visit many years ago. Furnishings are quite tired in the hotel itself, although the bedroom curtains looked to be fairly new and the beds were comfortable. The plumbing is extremely noisy, and the showers are old and were luke warm , we could hear the people in the room above every time they used the toilet, even at night !!
We dined in the restaurant the first night, and while the staff were very pleasant, they lacked knowledge of the menu, it took three attempts to get clarification on desserts, they also didn't know the cost, as we were advised \"€49\", which we found out was actually €55. A bit saucy for what was offered.
Breakfast was fabulous, great choices , hot food was made very fresh and to perfection.
Ideal for families in these times ( and there were a lot there ) they have a lovey outdoor pool, but if want some quite, you will have to use it early morning or late evening.
I would return, but will be lowering my expectations on a 4 star resort , its a 3 a best.

This is a beautiful, comfy spot but older travellers but not so suitable for families and younger couples! Can’t fault the hotel in terms of cleanliness and service, staff are lovely but it is a bit like stepping back in time. The room was lovely and warm, no annoying electrical fans at night to worry about, however, be prepared, it is a little like staying at your granny’s in the 1980s

Renvyle House Hotel is well worth the trip.

The Renvyle House Hotel is a rare gem of cozy Irish and high quality food and service, situated right on the Wild Atlantic coast. The views are breath taking.
It is way out so the roads are tough so get out there early with daylight. A lot of windy turns and about 30 minutes northwest of Clifton, but well worth the drive. The food and service at their restaurant is 5 star with incredible taste and serving portions. We got the Halibut and Rack of Lamb and both were superb!

The Renvyle House is a lovely resort on the West Coast of Ireland. It has a private sand beach that looked very inviting but we didn't get a chance to try it out as we hadn't brought bathing suits. It offers lots of activities, like scuba diving lessons and fly fishing lessons, as well as clay shooting. It's very popular with families and seems to be where the Irish come to relax. My husband and I visited because we had read about its haunted past online and we love a good haunted hotel. The hotel itself doesn't promote its spooks (I understand why) but we had a good time surreptitiously ghost hunting (unfortunately we didn't see anything). We only stayed one night but I would have enjoyed a longer stay.

This hotel is older but it's a classic family resort. Beautiful location in Connemara with the beach and walks close by...the hotel has large multi areas for people to congregate and it accommodates children and pets well I think. I see it as a place families came back to year after year. Room was small but quaint, bathroom a bit dated, not dirty, just old. Liked the tartan curtains and window seat in the room. Staff was very nice.

Great base to explore Connemara

Great location for exploring Connemara, as well as the area around Renvyle, including the beautiful Islands View beach stop on the Wild Atlantic Way 5 mins down the road. Hotel could do with an upgrade, stayed in the newer part but the en-suite felt dated and intermittent hot water. Beds and overall room fairly comfortable with a nice view. Some touches like fridge in the room and updated tea/coffee facilities would be good. Breakfast was good, dining room is cosy and welcoming. Bar and restaurant food were good quality too. Food options across the hotel could be updated in terms of selection. Overall resort is lovely, lots of nice features and great location. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I’d recommend this hotel for location mostly, feel that the price could justify a few upgrades in some areas.

Perhaps a little too child friendly....ie adults can't have a leisurely swim in the pool as it's always full of children. A swimming lane would be nice for those who want to swim to keep fit would be appreciated.
The changing facilities at the pool are poor.

As I walked into the hotel for the first time, pulling up the hood of my waterproof coat as it was raining, I walked into the light by the front door. I swore and then noticed the sign to say it was a stress free hotel !
I am not tall and the light is loose so I suspect others have done the same.

Avoid

The hotel is dated. If you want complimentary breakfast don't book thru Expedia you'll have to pay for it. And there are no prices on the menu. Toilet worked when it wanted to not when you did. Hotel never did fix it after several complaints. They did offer to move us at midnight of our last night. The shower doesn't drain and had a spider in it. The surrounding area is beautiful I would just find somewhere else to stay.

old School Charm

This is a grand old hotel that speaks clearly of a time past. The building is beautiful , with dark wood and marble and many windows. Check in was quick and efficient as well as friendly and inviting. Our rooms (we travelled as a family of 7 and needed 3 rooms) had wonderful views. The rooms were comfy and the baths had heated towel racks. Now, I have read some negative reviews that noted rusty water from the pipes. My reply is that it harms nothing and there is no charge for the mineral bath!
The breakfasts were replete with good food and the bar was stocked with some great whiskey. The barman and all the staff were friendly and helpful. One can enjoy a great stroll around the grounds or by the beach. Come stay here and you will feel like royalty.
Nearby is Kylemore Abbey, a magical side trip. You can also have a slow drive through the local countryside and enjoy dinner at the nearby Bard's Den.
Here is the bottom line. Want a slick place with modern furniture, blended cocktails and au currant entertainment? Go elsewhere . . .maybe a different country. want to live a refined, upscale, relaxed few days - try Renvyle House.

Blustery days, Great stay

Renvyle House is a beautifully situated and historic country inn. The owners have preserved much memorabilia from its early days as a home of a noted Irish writer and surgeon. The food in the dining rooms is excellent quality and well prepared and served. The waitstaff is international and works hard to please. The surrounding countryside is rugged and beautiful. Our room was spacious and well furnished. Special recognition for the upstairs library, the house bar/pub, and the turf fires on either end of the adjacent lobby area. As a special treat, local performers put on a play in the library one evening about Sligo native William Butler Yeats and the women in his life.

Escape.

Idyllica rural, seashore retreat, where a walk right from the front door was breath-takingly beautiful. Total relaxation. V.good evening meal, and, if you can believe it, best breakfast I can remember having, including fresh fruit crêpe, which was enormous.
Simply excellent.
