The room was clean and the facilities OK. Was glad I had bought my own toiletries and there were only 4 coathangers - not enough for two women! Asked for more but not available.

Great value, away from the hustle

Great price at USD55 per night (very few tourists). A bit out of town, up the hill - so you'll need a vehicle. Well maintained small pool. Reasonable food options at hotel, but no other obvious food venues nearby. Acceptable espresso by Sri Lankan standards. Seemed like a section at the front of the hotel was under construction, but it was quiet & peaceful. DO NOT CONFUSE this with their second hotel (Earl Regency) which is a 5* hotel at Tennekumbura about half an hour away.

Hotel is at a quiet location bit further away from city. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff is very friendly but slow to attend for queries. Very good breakfast and dinner with adequate selection of Western, Sri Lankan and Indian food. Outside dining is great. Overall nice little hotel and would definitely consider going back again.

Room was ok in size. Bed is not too comfortable. We are in the corner room so the Mountain View ain’t that nice. Toilet was small and no soap and toiletries dispenser. Shower water goes out from the cubicle. Mirror light was flickering. No bathrobe but they gave slippers when requested. One staff helped for the airport transfer. Thank you. Parking is always full but manageable. They will give you 1 key card even requested for 2. Breakfast buffet has good food choices and taste is ok. No hostess showing seats to guest. Overall ok but expected more great service and proactive approach.

The AC in the room wasn’t working for both nights and the engineers came 3/4 times and kept on saying wait for 30/40 minutes and it will start working and at the end they mentioned that this part of the hotel is under renovation and gave an option passed 11pm to change the room when we were nearly sleeping.

Luxury but close to the town!

Love this place! We had to do a last min hotel change due to no parking at our first hotel. This was 100x better, we got a luxury room and treat really well from start to end. The food was really good and a decent variety! Service was great and rooms very clean! Only a short distance away from the town!

Do not mistake for Earl's Regency

Firstly I wish to point out that I thought I was booking Earls Regency which is a 5* hotel My biggest mistakeThis hotel although rated 4* is not upto that standard
The service was poor The room was small but comfortable There were no towels -had to ask. The food was very basic -including the Sri Lankan dishes It was also cold despite being on a food warmer
Glad I was only staying one night!
The good point is it is out of Kandy -near to Peradeniya Therefore can "escape" when leaving without getting caught to the Kandy traffic and one way system The views were good It was quiet

Mixed experience. Standard room disappointing with no balcony or outlook; we would have paid extra for a luxury room had we known. Inattentive staff in restaurant on first night, second night improved after we complained. Food was very good but the dinning room is tight and at times crowded and difficult to get to the buffet.

The room in the newest part of the hotel was first rate. The food was also excelleng. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was actually a nice 4 star, however our experience there was pretty ordinary. We had booked a room with 1 king + twin beds for a family of 4. Instead of providing us with the twin beds we only got a single bed. Repeated requests to address the issue resulted in a variety of responses - ranging from 15USD extra for an additional mattress to there being not enough room to fit another mattress. Anyway, we just gave up in the end as it was too late and crammed in for an uncomfortable sleep.

Such a nice surprise just off from Kandy

That was such a surprise. Beautifully located hotel, at the top of the hill, surrounded by other hills, all covered in lush tropical greenery providing stunning views from every corner of the hotel. Just off from Kandy, a few mintues ride by Tuk Tuk, 4 km. Amazing food, really whatever tried was delicious. Nice pool with a view. And service people - doing all their best to help you and make your stay comfortable. Must try for every traveller.

The buffet was terrible- cold food and very very limited options!

The staff have no real hospitality experience it seems, often being shouted at by superiors and being order to say "good morning" to guests and ask "how was your breakfast?".

The staff working at the breakfast buffet were rubbing their eyes as if they hadnt slept and the young man at the egg station was picking his nose whilst cooking eggs- yuk!

The staff were friendly and always had smile on their faces.

Lovely spacious well equipped hotel.

Room was very spacious with double bed, seating/ tv area inside and outside balcony. Bathroom was well equipped with lovely shower. Room was clean and quiet. Restaurant served great buffet meal with wide selection of food catering for all taste buds. Breakfast was also buffet with wide selection and omelettes cooked to order. Pool on site though did not use due to weather. Staff very friendly.
Would recommend to friends.

On arrival at the hotel I was immediately informed that the room had no window at which I was horrified. I was told that this is the same for all standard rooms.
Once I arrived in the room I found it to be of an appalling standard.
• Window – although present was covered with film making it opaque significantly reducing the light entering the room. The window could only be opened by approximately 15cm revealing a view of guttering, drains and a store room.
• The carpet was old and dirty.
• The fittings in the room were old and dirty.
• The room was damp and had a very bad smell – one which I would associate with damp and mold, most likely due to a combination of drains, poor ventilation and old musty carpet.
• The bathroom was about 2m x 1m; it was so small that you could barely open the shower door because the toilet was in the way.
• The room was in a separate block at the end of a long dirty corridor. A picture was hung on the wall which looked like something from a junkshop. The rooms around us appeared to be offices used by management and was very noisy.

A little way out

Of the 5 hotels we stayed at, on a 3 week stay this was by far the most expensive for food and drink maybe this is because it is rather isolated, about 20 minutes by tuk tuk from Kandy.
The hotels public areas are welcoming and the pool area is nice although there is shortage of sun beds.
The food in the restaurant is nice but expensive, a bottle of beer was 1000 rupees almost double the price of the the next most expensive encountered at 600 rupees, normal price in hotels and restaurants for a large bottle of beer was between 450 and 550 rupees.
We booked a standard room at this hotel, a standard room is actually the budget rooms, the receptionist was almost apologetic when he took us there, the room was ok but had no view and the bathroom did smell of cabbage. We mentioned the smell to reception and they said they would spray the area, which they did, the smell did go for a couple of hours but returned, we just put up with it.
It is unlikely that I would return to this hotel as there are probably better options closer to the town

I booked this hotel through Expedia.co.in ...Local room rate is LKR. 9,500/= but they charged LKR. 19,000/=. I booked on line so can't cancel . But never mind.. After visiting to the room I'm really disappointed.. Have work lot of distance to pool 7 to the restaurant. Very inconvenient.. Can't close main door properly.(511) Lot of sounds from out side. No privacy... There's only 1 plug base in the whole room..Fan is there but no regulator.. This type of hotel should not offer this type of rooms for customers ..

They tried to scam us upon arrive such a shame

We arrive in Sri Lanka for a 4 night stay in kandy to then go off to travel and visit other parts of the beautiful country. Upon arrival at the desk they said you have only booked a standard room which you will not be happy with let us show you a deluxe room! Ofcouse for an extra cost - they shown us the deluxe room then took us out of the main hotel to the "standard" room which they said we had booked - anyway will not go into this for too long just to say it left a very bad taste at the beginning of our holiday - all the other hotels we stayed in I had given them excellent reviews. The hotel is lovely and clean - most of the staff excellent. The beakfast and buffet dinner excellent just a shame they tried to spoil our stay with them. Shame they are trying to get extra money from you as you arrive in to the hotel - we travel all the time and it's the first time we have been shown another room before the actual room we have booked - did see the standard rooms in the same block as we stayed as had friends staying in a normal standard room - not the staff accommodation - drivers accommadation they tried to fob us off with to make us upgrade.

The room had a musty smell of mildew. We couldn't get rid of the smell. The room was dirty. Our sheets had stains on it. We ended up sleeping in our jackets to cover our face. This hotel should be rated 2 star. The pictures make the hotel look better than what it really is.

Quick overnight stay. Business till late, then early morning departure.

The hallway smelled of dank carpet. The room wasn't much better. I don't think people really expect carpeted rooms in the tropics. I'm sure guests would rather walk on tiled floors than smell mold.

But overall, the hotel employees were friendly and helpful.

Good mid range choice in Kandy

Though a bit faded, Earl's Regent is a solid choice. My standard room (in an annex next to the hotel) was basic but clean and comfortable. Restaurant good for breakfast but the dinner buffet is large but mostly mediocre. Lovely pool. BBC is the only international TV channel available. Staff very accommodating and friendly. The hotel caters more to groups but staff went out of the way to make this solo traveler welcome. If returning I'd pay extra for the deluxe rooms which are in the main building, nicer and have balcinies and views.

The standard rooms are somewhat disappointing in terms of access. No elevator, needs to access thru a narrow passage hardly enough for 2 people to pass walking through management offices. The bathrooms are small and awkward. View in to a rather dirty terrace. Restaurant staff rather unattentive. Had to wait about 30 mins to get a refill of warm water for my elderly mom. Lot of staff moving about but not properly trained to work effectively and efficiently. I have travelled around Sri Lanka a lot and this hotel was clearly inferior to the service standards of same level hotels in Sri Lanka. If you book rooms, pay the extra $20 and book the deluxe rooms with a view.

They loose your jeans!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and so we wanted to get some laundry done. They made us sign for the laundry when it finally was returned. There were jeans there so I thought they were mine. We packed up and went to our next destination. Turns out they gave me some one else's jeans, about 3 sizes too large. When I rang the hotel they just said it was my problem as I'd signed for them. I had to ask for the laundry to be returned 3 times and they gave me some one else's jeans in the end. I would not recommend this hotel! The service is appalling. Please take this as an official complaint against the hotel. Someone else is going to realise they have the wrong jeans and get the same rude response from the hotel.
