Terrible sleep, which whilst guest behaviour is not the hotels fault, the duration it took to deal with the situation was possibky far more drawn out than it should have been. A guest domestic took place in the room next door just before 1am, took over 90 mins for the guest to be removed from the hotel and because of being on the ground floor, this guest was banging on the windows of the room once he was outside.

Towel rail in the room didn't work which was disappointing as had wet swimwear from the Spa to dry and meant the bathroom was quite cold.

Food in restaurant was average and the premium dishes were remarkably small portioned - the duck stated Duck breast, but was merely a slither of a duck breast.
The dining credit I didnt feel was clear that couldn't be used towards drinks (food only) so financially was worse off when paying the remainder of the bill.

All points raised at check-out but reception staff didn't seem to interested, an quick sorry about that, and more concerned about being able to start checking out the next guest.

I wouldn't return nor recommend a stay.
Gave 3* as the guest behaviour isnt the fault of the hotel and overall stay adequate.

This is second time we stayed and both times we have had same experience in all aspects. The food being the main issue
There is an absolute bare minimum available for a child with dairy allergy. I asked the restaurant staff if they could do brocoli with no butter and woman said no because the brocoli/greens already comes buttered. My son ended up having plain pasta. They did make chicken nuggets for him which was much appreciated, however the nuggets were ridged and hard to bite into for a 4 year old , the batter was too salty as well. There are no deserts for dairy allergies and they didnt have apple and mango juice (same happened last time we stayed). My sons pasta looked like it was kept under a heat lamp for too long (crispy on top and normal underneath. My ravioli looked the same and was below average for the cost !! My friend who stayed there same night , ended up with food poisoning after having the stake pie.

Overall its a a beautiful hotel with a nice pool and beautiful interiors. Staff are lovely too , but the chef needs sacked and menu updated. There are so many hotels near by who offer an amazing, home made, allergy and vegan friendly options , i dont understand why yours is so outdated. The food seems precooked hours before serving and out the packed rather than freshly made.

Everything exceeded our expectations, well, except for the pillows which were so soft they were almost non-existent! The hotel was grand but somehow cosy, spotlessly clean and well-maintained and the facilities were great. The pool was bigger than it looked in the photos although the slide was more of a shuffle! Games room had a table tennis table, a pool table and an arcade machine. There was a dart board and darts but the flights were too damaged to play with. The grounds were lovely to walk in, especially because we were lucky enough to be there when it snowed. Best of all were the staff who, without exception, were exceptional. They were friendly, attentive, helpful and went above and beyond. We'll definitely be staying there again.

Beautiful setting, lovely walks around the site. The rooms are in desperate need of updating. The pool area was nice however the pool was FREEZING!!!

A clearly beautiful hotel that has been allowed to decline. The spa was cold (and we couldn’t get in initially as it was oversubscribed). More of a sash pool for kids than a relaxing spa. Noisy cleaners in the halls at 0800. Inattentive bar staff. Price was cheap, so not overly upset. Just won’t be visiting again.

We stayed in a suite which cost a lot more, it turned out that it was directly above the restaurant so there was music playing until midnight and started again at 7am, to be fair we mentioned it and were moved the next day. The staff are all very friendly and helpful but the food wasn’t great, we ordered a starter and a main and the main arrived fort they took it back but re heated it when needed

This hotel has progressively rundown over the years. They obviously don’t employ chefs anymore as none of the food is edible and it’s obviously brought in food reheated. I ordered the loaded nachos which looked like someone had opened a packet put them in a bowl and drop some sour cream and guacamole on the side no flare no imagination All the other food I tried was blue power the breakfast our team is extremely poor for a hotel pretending to be a four star hotel, they need to invest in a proper food and beverage manager and going back to trying to win local clientele. What’s sad about this hotel is that it’s in the most fabulous settings but let down by a lack of vision and poor leadership.

I had such a relaxing time at Slaley Hall. My humans have brought me here twice, the staff are really pleased to see me and make a big fuss if me, which I love. Our suite was spacious, clean and comfortable. I had my own bed but the bed in the room looked very comfortable. The snacks I had were delicious, as was the food my humans ate, I heard them talking about how much they enjoyed their meals. Please could you fix the taps on the bath as every time they walked across the room they rattled against the bath and it woke me up. I’m looking forward to going back

There are not many breakfast item options.
The drinks in dispensers are watery and tastes terrible!! They don’t even look appealing to want to taste.Not even orange juice was any better..Ps:Add pineapple juice/mango juice at least to that display,The dispensers and the dispenser area looks dirty and their beverage machines are on the line up but are all faulty.The restaurant floors and chairs are not properly cleaned.The water in the sinks takes forever to drain away.Broken bathroom door..outdmoded TVs,no access to YouTube etc.
I didn’t enjoy my stay..it’s prolly a hotel for golfers who don’t really bother indeed..you could do better 👍.Scott at the pool gets my 4 stars and the lady housekeeper gets my 5 stars.

Hotel is stunning inside and out. Staff all friendly but service at the bar tended to be slow due to only having one set of pumps for draught beers and with a large amount of guys who had just finished their rounds of golf and wete a bit thirsty, but not a major issue.

Relaxing overnight Spa break in beautiful hotel/su

We have stayed at Slaley Hall a few times and always enjoyed our time there, it is our 'go to' place for a mini break. The Spa is very relaxing and the treatments/therapists are excellent. The staff on reception, the dining room and bars are all friendly, welcoming and willing to help. Big shout out to Marcus on reception who kindly offered to help get our bags from the car as my husband has mobility problems. Thank You , we will be back :)

Not had service this bad for a while

Extremely let down by restaurant, which overshadowed what was otherwise a lovely stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a great pool area, comfortable rooms, and genuinely helpful reception staff who couldn’t be faulted.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was a complete disappointment and left us with a very negative impression of the hotel overall. We sat down for dinner at 7:15 with our daughter, but it took almost 50 minutes just to get our drinks, despite asking multiple times. Even worse, our food didn’t arrive until 9:50—over 2 hours and 45 minutes later. By then, our daughter was absolutely starving. We weren’t the only ones either—the family seated next to us had children who actually fell asleep at the table while waiting.

It was clear that larger groups arriving after us were being prioritised, which was incredibly unfair and unacceptable. To make matters worse, when our daughter’s dessert finally came, the donuts were microwaved, rock hard, and completely inedible.

Overall, the restaurant service was shocking and left a bitter taste, which is such a shame given how good the rest of the hotel is.

The room was large & clean. Freeview on tv but no apps available. We had a couple of issues. Service at evening meal wasn't great. The waiter struggled to take the order. Said it was new equipment. If so training before service would have made for a more professional experience. I opted for the lamb rump which tasted as if it had been rolled in flour not cooked out. A very odd taste & texture. Noone came to check if our meals were ok. The manager came to ask if we wanted dessert as he could see we had been waiting a while. The waiter then tried to take our drinks before we had finished. The next morning at breakfast I had to ask 3 different members of staff for a teabag & wait about 15 minutes before I got one. Possibly because they were a little short on staff. The cooked breakfast was ok. I liked that you could order eggs or pancakes. We enjoyed a swim in the pool & made use of the sauna before we left. Our bathroom was a little tired. We had quite a deep bath with the shower over it which may have posed problems for those less mobile. I would've preferred a walk in shower. The room was at the end of the corridor which was quiet however the view was over a flat roof so no scenery to admire unfortunately.

Fantastic hotel

Fantastic night stay on our travels. Swimming pool / spa was lovely, our son had a fab time and we had pockets of relaxing in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi!
Room was comfortable, quiet and clean. Breakfast was great and all staff were friendly and helpful.
Gutted we do not live closer but will be back whenever we are in the area next!
Wished we had known about the activity centre onsite before our stay - alloutadventures.co.uk as we may have booked our son for the quad biking.
My only negative point is the cocktails are not made fresh but out of a bottle!

Breakfast was very good along with the service.
Unfortunately afternoon tea and evening meal was not great.
Afternoon tea looked like a shop brought scone warmed up but so was the cream which came as a puddle and when we asked for some more cream it all ended up being dropped over us, and then issues with the soup so we asked for a refund and got one. The service took forever both lunch and dinner.

We would stay again as such a nice place but we will be sticking to breakfast only.

Right from the friendly welcome by Tom, my stay was fantastic. I was travelling myself with 2 young children for a family funeral in the area. All the staff were friendly and very good with the children. They were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. We enjoyed a meal in the evening. Good choice for adults and children. We also all enjoyed the buffet breakfast too.

We thought the breakfast was a bit lacking, for example there were no bananas three mornings running. No scrambled eggs at the hot buffet. It had too much of a canteen feel about it.
Dinner for our first night, the menu selection was poor. I asked for a Peroni and the bottle was brought but no glass. Generally we were so disappointed with it we went out for dinner thereafter.
The check-in was very good and helpful.
Our bedroom overlooking the golf course was very good.
No fault to find with the cleanliness. All the staff seemed very helpful.

The location is peaceful but within easy reach of many tourist attractions in the area. The grounds, hotel and leisure facilities are all of a high quality.
The focus during our stay was clearly on catering for golfing clients who monopolised the car park, bar and restaurants often to the detriment of other guests. There was a notable shortage of staff and although everyone was friendly and polite the waiting and supervisory staff appeared to be inexperienced in hospitality skills.

Very disappointing stay

Hotel its self was ok nice and grand but could do with some work as it was quite run down in area's. Pool or the \"spa\" as it was called needed some maintenance lots of staining to the pool tiles and cracks to the rocks in the pool. Very overun it could maybe do with a limit on people allowed in at once. The main disappointment was the evening meal in the what looked like the fancy restaurant on site. The service was absolutely abysmal. We waited almost 20 minutes to order drinks which then took ans age to arrive. We then waited in total an hour for starter's to arrive. The starters were overpiced and under performed on taste and quality. It was £12.50 for 2 small squares of belly pork which were nothing special. The waiter came to clear the starters and asked if we would like deserts but we hadn't even got our main courses yet. We waited a while for mains and then were asked if we'd got them yet and then were asked what we'd ordered almost like the staff had no idea what was going on. Mains arrived and the waiter didnt even know what was on the plate. Mains were definitely on the plates and under a heat lamp as the mashed potatoes had a skin on top. Lamb was ok but again absolutely tiny in size for the price payed. I could have accepted small portions if the quality blew me away but unfortunately it was mediocre food at extortionate pricing. All in all a poor place and definitely wont be back unless serious changes are made to the whole venue and service.

Busy golfing hotel, service could be improved

Busy hotel…obviously a destination for groups of guys who want to drink and play golf. Restaurants and bars very busy, a bit rowdy. Restaurant bookings required, should’ve been emphasised at check in. This was the first time I’ve been turned away from a hotel restaurant with no attempt to find a solution other return at 9pm. Food was decent enough. Service a bit slow - don’t seem to have enough staff - staff were clearly working hard but so busy they can’t offer any personal touches such as checking in to see how food is etc

Also booked a suite, but the images on hotels.com mainly reflect the upgrade suite options that were renovated in 2022. Suites are actually far more dated, bit disappointing but very spacious and clean

The room was beautifully clean and spacious. The bed was harder than usual. The swimming area was fantastic, very busy on a sat we had to wait about 30 mins. Sunday the spa was very quiet which was great! The restaurant was a disappointment, ordered lamb pie and it was pure fat. It took an hour to arrive so the offer to cook another meal was not an option I wanted to take as I was past being hungry. The pub restaurant down stairs was grubby and unclean, it put us off eating there. There were many rooms to have a drink, perhaps some board games in these rooms would be a good idea. The breakfast was lovely, really enjoyed it. I would return again but not dine in. It is worth a visit just for the spa experience, maybe not on a sat but definitely on a sunday.

We booked 2 rooms .our room the shower tap broke off in my hand meaning we couldn’t switch the water off making us over an hour and a half late for evening meal as we had to change rooms meaning we had to pack and in pack again .
Our friends room the tv didn’t work and they had no Bose music station as advertised .
Breakfast none off the coffee stations were working no muffins left.
All in all a very poor experience and we reported this to reception on check out but the were just not interested and didn’t even apologise .

Overall a lovely place

It was lovely and relaxing. The spa was busy on the Friday and the hot tub is far too small for the amount of guests but overall the staff are friendly, rooms are large, resturant food was lovely and service was great. The claret jug pub food wasn’t so good and although the waitress was lovely and tried her hardest the food let this place down! The hotel is large with multiple paces to relax and have a drink. We would certainly return but not on a weekend and we wouldn’t eat at the pub.

Service was good and the room was perfect. It was extremely busy which meant use of the pool/spa/sauna wasn’t great. On departure extra charges were added to the bill for early check in ( which we were not made aware of) and a romantic gesture package which came up as more expensive than requested. These charges were dropped however.

Pretty setting and nice old building

Parking was far from hotel and a little inconvenient as we had several suitcases. Bar was great and so was their menu - ate dinner in dining room which was very disappointing. \"Crispy\" pork belly was under cooked and all fat and no meat.

Very disappointed

From check in we were disappointed to see a sign uo restricting children's time in the pool. We only chose the hotel because of this. After a lengthy check in process, at least half an hour, we went staright to the pool. We were told it was full and would jave to be put kn a waiting list! You can imagine our frustration and my 5 year old boy's disappointment at this. After another half an hour we were eventually allowed in. The hotel as a whole is very dated and a little run down. The bar was nice and the food adequate. We wont be returning in a hurry.

Lovely treat staying at Slaley Hall.
Very attractive surroundings.
Swimming pool ideal for little ones.
Hot tub, steam room and sauna and beds to relax on. Plentiful breakfast which was delicious.
Hopefully back soon.

Restaurant was very poor say down to dinner to be told due to busy weekend the had 4 of the options not available.
Then the wine we ordered was also not available they offered a replacement at almost twice the price
Then when we complained to maitre de
suddenly a bottle was found
Our room had some water system constantly running felt as if I had developed tinnitus
Spa area jacuzzi was freezing
Staff tried to do their best with no resource
Pity as it could have been a good venue

We have just had a brilliant weekend at slaley hall golf and spa.Everything was fantastic food drinks room and facilities. The only downside is the driveway into the hotel from the main road.This needs addressing asap as it’s the worst bit of road I have ever driven on.Please make note. Thanks

Overall good but not what we hoped for.

Hotel is stunning and in a beautiful location. Check in queue took around 20 mins to get through but otherwise pleasant. Room was on floor1, room was nice but no fridge as stated ! This needs to be known for those who carry insulin pens and need to store them in the fridge or other medication that requires refrigeration.The bed was big and comfortable. No glasses in the bathroom so nothing to rinse with after brushing. Decor was dated and a lot of cobwebs around the ceiling. Otherwise all clean and daily housekeeping was good. Ample parking but a hill to walk up to get to the hotel but you can drop your luggage/guests off at the main entrance which looks amazing. The spa was full when we used it on the first day and lots of kids in the pool and running around so it was not really spa like being there, lovely looking spa but we only spent an hour in there as we had enough of kids jumping in the pool and running around we could not relax plus no seating so had no choice but to be in the pool or stand against the wall. This being said there is a time that kids have to be out by at 7pm but that was late for us to be going to the spa. Maybe a separate kids and adults area as this was very un spa like especially when your moto for the spa is to “escape the noise”. The spa juice bar was also not serving they stated that we had to use the main bar at the other side of the hotel which is not convenient when you want a drink and are wearing a bikini and towel. Breakfast was amazing A*
