I spent a week in Oaxaca and Majagua ended up being much more than simply a place to sleep. From the moment I arrived, the staff were exceptionally kind, welcoming and genuinely interested in ensuring I have a comfortable stay and experience.
What stood out most was how thoughtful everyone was. I was given a quiet ground-floor room with a beautiful patio, brought jugs of cold water and offered breakfast in my room. Small gestures that make a huge difference. The hotel itself is beautiful, peaceful and full of character. The location is excellent, close enough to easily walk into the heart of Oaxaca while still feeling like a peaceful retreat after a long day.
The team were always happy to help with recommendations, transport arrangements and local advice. They also work with an amazing tour company, which organised one of the highlights of my trip - visiting Santa Catarina Minas and meeting a traditional mezcal producer which I could not have arranged on my own.
As a solo traveller, what I appreciated most was the warmth of the people working here. Everyone seemed genuinely proud of Oaxaca and were always eager to share their knowledge, experiences and recommendations with me.
Oaxaca itself is a special place, but Majagua played a huge part in making this one of my most memorable trips ever. It's not just a hotel, it has the warmth of a stay with a small family. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a hospitable and authentic place to stay in Oaxaca.
