We stayed for one night at Skyland in the Shenandoah National Park on a recent visit to Virginia. We booked a ‘Traditional Room with 2 Queen beds’. The room was lodge style with a small terrace. Check-in was easy and we were able to park outside our room. The amenities and the room are basic and ‘tired’, but as expected. The beds were comfortable but the quality of the bedding was best described as ‘old’. The room had a musty smell but appeared clean. Although there was wifi it wasn’t really usable. We had breakfast in the restaurant which was reasonably priced.
The hotel, although basic and not cheap, is in a great location. We enjoyed walking the Stony Man route to watch a beautiful sunset and then hiking a few other routes to enjoy the beauty of the National Park.

The cabin room was generally clean (no protective covers on the pillows), had everything needed, and in good working order. If you like 60s decor then the cabin and amenities are perfect for you. I think it needs updating so you can really appreciate the amazing views from the rooms and dining room.

The hotel property is great, it’s in Shenandoah national park so it’s beautiful. The restaurant is good and offers large portions. Only complaint is the rooms could’ve been swept, dusted and vacuumed better. Also the wifi in the room did not work, so plan ahead for keeping your kids busy during down time. We were able to walk to Stony Man Trail from the hotel, nice hike and beautiful view once you reach the top

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful location. The current administration should invest funds in the National Parks, rather than divesting from them, and rather than spending untold, mismanaged, hundreds of millions on ballrooms and personal jets. This historied encampment deserves to be kept up in a more intentional way for our children and grandchildren. Can you imagine what Skyland would look like if just a handful of millions going toward a gilded jet were spent on the deep cleaning and deferred maintenance it requires?

The location is wonderful. Many extremely accessible view points and hikes which were a short drive from the area. Also many trails right on the actual property. They served a nice dinner to our family and breakfast as well. Very kind people who work here. I would recommend this place when you are visiting the area. The heaters in the room worked great and the showers were nice and hot too! Bed pretty comfortable as well! Overall, awesome!

The staff were sweet and understanding. The room was however gross and not built for the weather we stayed in. The bathroom was freezing and did not seem enclosed and there was a massive blood or puke on the ceiling.

Check in/out was quick and easy. The room was outdated but it was fine for what we needed. We did not have a room with a view, I would recommend asking about a room with a view if your stay is more than one night. We had a nice dinner in the restaurant and after dinner drinks in the Tap Room. The bartender Timika was great and the man singing and playing guitar was very entertaining! It was a wonderful evening!

Long lines to be seated for meals--more than an hour. Ran out of several menu items. Nearby guests were loud. Pets are allowed in rooms and my room smelled like animals. Closed dining room before posted closing times. No deadbolt or chain to lock door from inside. Very low water pressure in sink and shower. Minifridge needed to be defrosted. No microwave. Towels were small, rough, and had limited absorption. Front desk frequently unmanned.

We had a great one night stay at Skyland. A very large complex with walking trails, 2 restaurants and a Starbucks. Our room was very clean, bed comfortable, water hot, temp of room perfect. Good fast heater. Only complaint is internet speed almost non existent in outlying buildings - we were in Franklin. Our only real complaint. As many have said before, long wait even in the bar. Waitresses and Bartender excellent, just understaffed for how many people to serve. Dinner took about 1 hour after ordering ( 2 burgers) so be prepared. I enjoyed the Rickshaw Cabernet and my husband the beer on tap. Overall a lovely stay.

Everyone at the desk had their nose in the air. Once they saw i booked on Expedia...it was like they didnt care to talk to me or help me. Room is outdated as hell and the bed was awful. Fokd was good and coffee was good but the service was just awful aside from our one waiter at the restaurant. He was nice. Big Meadow was so much better. Skyland views are great but only if u get a room like that. Call the property to book if u want a nice view. I thought i was getting one with a Deluxe room or whatever but thats not true at all. Not the best experience but ill stay again cause of the Appalachian trail and views. Those are the only reasons.

Try it out! You may just surprise yourself!

First time ever visiting Skyland resort and Shenandoah National Park. At first I had a little bit of worry! Like why did I not research more. But, after the easy checkin and finding our room, turns out it aas wonderful. I got a traditional room (no fridge or microwave), there was a coffee maker! Not something I was use to but overall I surprised myself and didn't even care! The view from our patio was great. The hikes are wonderful! We will be back!

Rustic on the outside and blends in with nature. Clean and tidy on the inside and looks to be recently renovated. Bathroom was clean and spacious. Beautiful view overlooking Luray at night. We plan to stay two nights next time. Front desk was efficient, polite and professional.

Beautiful area, surrounded by woods, lots of hiking trails. Old-fashioned lodge with old style room. Beds comfortable, bathroom fine, great shower. Love the balcony where we could sit and look over the view. Doors and some fixtures could be modernized a bit--the old latches didn't work too well. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dining room convenient. Dinner was so-so, breakfast ok. Would be happy to stay there again, but might look for another place to eat. rating is 4.5.

We stayed at Skyland for one night. The location was perfect as an interlude to our exploration of Skyline Dr. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable and the view stunning. The Taproom bartender, Rick, is attentive and friendly and we appreciated his kind service for dinner. Kelly provided prompt and friendly service in the dinind room for breakfast. The food was good. All in all a good stay and we'd do it again.

Labor day weekend in the park

I've been to the park several times, but this was my first time staying in the hotel. Room was nice, clean, plenty of towels. I stayed 3 nights. Nice to have the dining near by, good food. Many hiking trails. Beautiful sunsets. Balcony is nice to sit out on, not the best view on the first floor blocked by all the trees, but that didnt bother me. Heating and AC. I will definitely come back. More convenient to stay in the park vs. Staying outside and having to drive in every day.

The view from our room facing west was beautiful at sunset. The room was comfortable and had a tv and refrigerator. It was an accessible room so we did appreciate the space. I did not request an accessible room but the location was great.
One of the only disappointments was the food and bar service. We did have an excellent ribeye steak the first night. Breakfast was good. Some of the menu items sounded great (french toast) but were underwhelming. One evening i ordered an Old Fashioned from the pub bar. It came very watered down. I asked for a replacement which just had a little more bourbon in it. I dont think the bartender knew how to make one.

Beautiful cabins in a wooded area with plenty of road to walk and hike on. Inside was cozy with a beautiful poach to sit out and relax on. Only wish the room had a small refrigerator, as we need to keep medications cool, but the ice machine was conveniently outside our door.

If you want to stay inside the park, this might be it. But it’s old and worn out, AC wasn’t working, there’s no internet connection and everything in plastic. They even wrap the plastic glasses in plastic. Service at the restaurant was great and nice location. Bring bug spray.

Hubby and I stayed here in 2006 and remember we had a gorgeous balcony view with convenient walking to the main office and several trails. So we brought our kids back almost 20 years later to experience it. Disappointed in lack of property upkeep and worse was foliage totally blocking balcony view, so no view at all. For $300 a night that’s a huge shortfall. First night no sleep for me due to noisy a/c unit. Next day we figured out how to turn it off by putting fan on auto and sleep was better, but def not off on a good foot. Some mold on shower curtain, deeply stained rug (maybe huge coffee spill?), balcony had dead bird on it, sidewalk in front of Appledore being worked on so had to park farther and lug all our stuff. Also only working water fill up station at main office building which was over 10 minute walk uphill from our building. This was not the best stay. If we come back again, we will choose building close to main office - maybe White Oak - and pay extra if necessary for a view! Did enjoy trails though, musician at tap room and night sky viewing at Big Meadows. Room was a real let down though

We stayed in a traditional room. We loved the size of the space and the fact it has a balcony to enjoy the scenic view from the room. The beds were a little stiff, however otherwise the rooms were nice. The rooms were clean and included soap and shampoo, however there is not a fridge or microwave for food. The staff there were very kind and answered all of our questions at check in. Would definitely stay here again!

I would heave given it a 5 star, but the rooms are rustic but quite clean and with stunning views. Four out of five days the coffee maker did not work. We did not get new towels daily even when asked. The wait staff was EXCELLENT and friendly and the food good. Unfortunately, on the last morning the barista was too lazy to get the manager for my Shenandoah Card Discount and offered a \"deal\" instead. I ended up paying the full price. Maybe how to deal with the card needs adjustment?
