Oppressive decor in rooms

Great location on the canal waterfront with super helpful staff. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The only down side is the hotel itself is very dark, we had a cozy room on the ground floor and it felt so gloomy, this is not helped by the brown/mushroom/black decor. This alone would put me off staying again- too oppressive.

Amazing stay and cleanliness in a beautiful hotel

I got a room for myself and It was exquisite. It's was very big, more than enough for two people let alone for myself. Everything was clean and found nothing dirty or bad smelling. The private bathroom also looked freshly cleaned and had plenty of towels to use. I appreciated the complimentary cookies, water bottle, and coffee capsules and maker in the room. Great stay, would definitely recommend staying here.

Staff is warm and friendly. The stay has been pleasant and comfortable. Although the estate is not modern, they are well maintained and its near sites to visit and have many dining options. It gets occasional noise along the streets especially on friday night (12-2am). The gym is small with two equipment and no trendmill. Nevertheless, one could always run outdoors.l to enjoy the city.

We stayed for 6 nights at Hotel Ve in Mechelen. Our hotel room was a great size with a large shower and seperate toilet. The hotel is really well situated on in the middle of the old town and you can walk everywhere, which is great. We had breakfast included and this was a really good way to start the day. We particularly liked having a fresh omelet cooked each day. Overall the hotel was a great experience

Vwry warm welcome on arrival. Our room was spacious, clean, and bed was very comfortable. Shower and bathroom excellent. We did not use the spa facilities,but they looked lovely.
The location is excellent with so many lovely places to eat and drink so close, as was the town.
Excellent value, would highly recommend and would certainly stay here again.

Great times at Hotel Ve’!

Loved this place! Very friendly and convenient. Great staff and the atmosphere was really impressive. My shower drain was plugged up but they were ready to fix the situation immediately. Great hotel in a great location

This is a really good hotel in a great central location in a beautiful city. Our room was comfortable and well furnished and the breakfast and bar service were really good. During our stay we did have a couple of issues with service these were acknowledged by reception and were duly compensated. If we do return to Mechelen this hotel will be our first choice. The reception staff were extremely helpful throughout our stay.

Really nice welcome at reception, courteous and efficient. Helpful when I asked for local directions. Rooms spacious and comfortable with all required amenities and good AC. I liked the industrial look of the converted building.. a former fish smoking factory and cigar factory. Check out easy. Breakfast good.I highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again.

Fabulous hotel in a wonderful canal setting, close to the city centre. Yes, beside a vibrant night time set of venues, but the soundproofing works well. The blackout curtains allow for great sleep in a comfortable well proportioned room.
In Mechelen for a long weekend city break, and we will be back!

Fabulous Hotel in the heart of Mechelen

Brilliant stay. Superb location in the very heart of Mechelen on the river. Lots going on. Beautiful Wellness Centre in the hotel which guests can use up to 12 noon each day. Breakfast is wonderful with made to order eggs of all types e.g. omelette with variety of mix (vegetables, salmon, bacon). One note is if driving, there is no parking but with the help of the hotel staff, who are very friendly, they can tell you good and safe places to park for relatively cheaply (cost us approximately €3 per day including overnight). Highly recommend this hotel and Mechelen is a fantastic city to explore.

We stayed at this hotel recently and overall it was a good experience. Rooms were spacious, and the location is excellent.

Staff was friendly but young and were not always around when you needed them. No real table service in the lounge area for drinks. Parking is terrible - there is no parking at the hotel so you have to park in a lot across the street which is 18 euro per day and doesn’t let you ride in and out contrary to what they tell you so beware you will pay every time you exit and reenter. Food in hotel was very mediocre - they cater food in and warm it up - pity because the restaurant area is quite cozy. The wellness is only open to guests from 7-10 am which really is not sufficient for vacationers and the tiny gym needs lots of help. Breakfast is 20 euro per person per day which was a bit outrageous for what you received. Lastly there were almost never enough towels and we never did quite figure out how to open the complimentary toiletries. Also our room was a bit cold.

We did not hate this hotel and loved the location but certain things could be improved.

Hotel is in a good central location. Staff were friendly and helpful.
We were originally allocated a room with no door on the bathroom but we were promptly given another room on request. We were advised there were only a few rooms of this type and they were normally kept for single occupancy.
Second room was comfortable and clean but there was a wall at the end of the bed with the TV mounted on it which made the room feel small.when it was actually a decent size. This is purely down to person preference as some people might see the TV as a bonus.
The part of the hotel we were situated in felt cold in comparison to the areas aroind reception.
A good breakfast was served in an attractive restsurant.

A lovely hotel with lovely bedrooms but air-conditioning is not in all rooms (despite being listed in the room information) and we had an insufferable night in a sweltering bedroom.
Also the hotel advertises a pool / spa / sauna but on the Saturday we arrived we could not use the pool because it had been booked out, it seems if you want to use the pool etc at certain times you have to block-book the entire pool/sauna facility for a considerable cost.
I don't believe this is evident in the Hotels.com listing.

This was a great hotel from start to finish. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. I was quite impressed. Rooms were of high quality and actually map onto 4-star ratings, unlike many other hotels in Belgium. The room was on the smaller end, but the quality was great!

I was staying as part of a large group and we were well looked after. Rooms were clean and comfortable. My only *slight* criticism was that the management was very conservative - Coming from London, I am used to 'bend-over-backwards for the customer' service. But hotel itself is quirky and interesting.

OVERALL - the property is great BUT BEWARE - at night there is a bar directly outside the front windows of the hotel and there are no closing hour rules - i had to ask for a room change at 02.00 in the morning after really loud and rowdy locals really stopped any possibility of sleep. Also - be aware that there are limited opening hours for the pool 07-10.00 - really strange. Overall, great building, good location, good staff - but massively let down bt incredibly loud outside noise and strange poole opening hours - better to book local big brand hotels

I would NOT stay here again... Nice contemporary hotel with very nice decor in an excellent location, however.... We booked a suite but they only had basic rooms available when we checked in... The air con did not work and they did not fix it during our 4 day stay. The windows only open by 2 inches and the average temperature in the room while we were there was 32 degree centigrade. Our room was not made up twice and on complaining we were told that they did not have enough staff so had to prioritise leavers and new arrivals... They had no tea at breakfast and once had to tomatoes for the omelette and also no milk. If that is not enough there was once we had the do not disturbed on the door but that did not stop one of the staff walking straight in to deliver new towels which was quite embarrassing - if you know what I mean... Having said all of that the shower was excellent if you didn't mind the flood and the waiting staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. Unfortunately there are too many negatives to outweigh the positives so we will not be going back.

The good things - nice hotel & pleasant staff. Centrally located, nice bar, good breakfast, lovely spa/wellness area. The Moroccan restaurant next door was absolutely sensational.

The bad things - the bed was VERY uncomfortable, the mattress top was only 5cm thick. Spa/wellness area only available to residents early in the morning and not all day or in the evenings. The peace at night was frequently broken when an engine/motor started running.

Very hot day and A/C didn't work booked a jnr suite and was then downgraded to a normal room which had A/C after >1 hour of messing around.
Very central hotel, nice location and building. Does have fitness centre and pool but note you can only use this at very limited times!?
Marred experience and runined by poor management + staff but otherwise a good place.

Having never stayed in Belgium before we didn't know what to expect. Mechelen is a great place full of friendly people, delicious food and great shopping. This hotel was a perfect location. We overlooked the courtyard that was bustling full of people day and night. The room kept the noise out but provided opening doors if we wanted to let the ambiance in. The room was large and had all the amenities we could ask for. The staff was very friendly even giving us a tour of the hotel the first day. We didn't use the spa at all - as we were told we could only use it until noon daily.

Love the Mercure Ve

I have stayed at two other Mechelen hotels, which were fine. However, this hotel has a graciousness and restfulness about it the other two didn't have. Also,the people working there are bright, extra nice and helpful. It is also very close to all the good restaurants, shopping and sites. I highly recommend it and will stay here again the next time I visit.

Hotel looks un-inspiring from outside, but once through the doors, wow! It appears that it is built inside an old factory or works & a lot of the old character has been retained, augmented with interesting art pieces & sculptures. Getting to the room feels like a bit of an adventure with stairway appearing to be partly in the old chimneys. Once in the room it is a stark contract with lots of space & ultra modern decor & fittings. All very up-market with comfy bed & huge shower. The area is beside a river/canal in an part which appears to be in re-development. It appears to be an area people flock to to take advantage of the bars & restaurants. Food at the restaurant next door is not cheap, but is quite good. Parking at the underground parking (not related to hotel) will cost €16 for 24 hours, but is very convenient.

Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Staff

Visted Mechelen for the Urban Trail run and picked this hotel because of the good ratings. We didn't realise you had to pay extra for spa access and there was no gym. Also the beer selection at the bar was very limited with none available on tap.

Having said that everything else about the hotel was excellent. The SPA itself was wonderful and very relaxing and well worth the extra 9 euro, the rooms were massive, clean and modern. The staff all spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful, especially those on duty overnight.

The location is about 5 minutes walk from the town square and is on a funky little market with bars, cafes and restaurants. You walk along the canal on a board walk to get there and it takes about 10 minutes from the railway station. Its a fun walk to take.

I would definitely go back. Great hotel and great location.

Fantastic character hotel

Amazing hotel. Privately owned but under Mercure management. It used to be a fish factory (1923). The conversion to hotel was done in a fabulous way. My room (double room) was huge and had authentic accents of that time, e.g.a wooden support beam. Check out some architecture magazines at reception for details. The hotel is located at the 'vismarkt', very central. We were there on a Sunday night; no issues with loud music /voices but I can imagine on a friday/sat night such to be an issue. A multi-storey carpark is within 100 meter and cost us Euro 21 overnight. Getting to our business meeting in the morning was easy/convenient, no traffic jams in the heart of the city although we had worried about that. The breakfast was mediocre (especially when considering the price, Euro 20 per person). And, checkout took much too long. It seems the Mercure computer system is not well understood by the (parttime?) staff. Overall one of the most memorable hotels I've stayed this year. Is it for sale? :)

Out of the 3 hotels we stayed in on our holiday,this was the worst. Could'nt get the pop up basin plug to work, and when we asked at reception why it hadn't been repaired, we were told that this was Mercure policy as guests allowed the sinks to overflow and flood the room! They suggested that you put a face cloth in the bottom of the sink but guess what the water still runs out, and you must use 4 times the amount of water than if the plug worked. Will never stay in a Mercure hotel again.

Second time I stayed there, room only for 5 days. Nice friendly staff, hotel situated in the cultural old fish market area of this lovely town. Rooms well sized, good beds, didn't try breakfast but looked standard to good. Defo recommend for convenience and nice hotel for romantic weekends or entertaining. Any rooms at the front of the hotel could be a bit noisy if there are any cultural things going on, so best check whats on and ask for rooms away from front. or down the side lane area leading up to the cathedral. Any Mechelen virgins would love this City.....lots to see and do and plenty of restaurants and bar sensibly priced. Beer lovers heaven!

Decent hotel, friendly service

The hotel has obviously been through an update recently and the decor is fresh and modern throughout. The room was clean and spacious and fairly quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was nice, within easy walking distance of the town and some bars / restaurants on the doorstep. There was a coffee machine and some coffee pods for it, but it would have been nice to have a kettle and some other options for a hot drink as well. The bathroom wasn't great, being designed as a sort of wet room, which meant it was impossible to have a shower without getting water everywhere and having to mop up afterwards. My main issue was the charge for the pool (cheapest in the 'discount hours' at 9 Euro). This is completely over the top, in fact, when a hotel has facilities such as this and I've paid for a room I wouldn't expect to be charged extra to use them.

The room, front desk and location were all fine. The only two problems were 1. There is no fridge in the room. We'll there is, but its so small you would think it ran of a couple of AAA batteries. A couple cans of beer and its full and doesn't get very cold. 2. There was this damp smell (second floor room in the corner). Now I am not sure if this came from the pipes overhead or the bathroom. The bathroom is a wet room and the water from the shower soaked the bathmat and occasionally actually got onto the carpet in the room. Other than that would definitely recommend it.

I have stayed in alot of hotels in Mechelen over the years and Teh Mecure V is the best!Great Hotel wonderful venue. Lovely restaurants close by and very near to teh grand market
Only comment is that if you are needing to take your car, you need to park at the secure parking near the Novotel, (just past the NH hotel) accessed via Brussels Port at the West of Mechelen. The parking is great very secure and near to the hotel! But don't plug in the address of the V to the Sat nav try the NH or the Novotel, or you will be like me taking 1 hour to travel 2 miles only to find you are parked outside the hotel having travelled down a restricted road!

The hotel is OK but let me make it clear that it is certainly nothing special. Sure it is quirky but nothing more than that.

Reception staff were very friendly, it's just a shame that the girl running the bar was not. She could not have been any more unfriendly if she had tried.

Anyway, the location is quite nice and my superior room was ok if not a little dark.

I would maybe try some where else if I ever had to go back to Mechelen again.

Internet connection is not included in the cost of the room which is crazy these days, especially when having a \"Superior\" room.

Modern style hotel situated in lively Vismarkt. Good standard of cleanliness and good choice at breakfast. Complimentary apples and a drink! Close to the town centre for sightseeing and restaurants, but can be difficult to find thanks to the roadworks and one-way streets.

Kamer was netjes en verzorgd. Alleen het bed was vreselijk slecht om op te slapen. Bedtopper verschoof en een gleuf in het midden van een tweepersoonsbed maakt aangenaam slapen moeilijk.
Personeel was heel vriendelijk.

Centraal gelegen hotel aan de levendige Vismarkt met uitstekend ontbijt en restaurant (Fuego). Ruime kamers met inloopdouche en jij regenweer is er Netflix op de kamer. Ook wellness beschikbaar. Allround fantastische service. In Restaurant Fuego een zeer lekkere vol-au-vent gegeten!

Mooi hotel aan de leuke Vismarkt in Mechelen, gevestigd in twee historische gebouwen. Als je bij de voordeur staat: het rechterdeel was vroeger een visrokerij en het linker een sigarenfabriek. Binnen zie je af en toe een historische verwijzing.
Ga zeker een keren lunchen of dineren in de bij het hotel horende bistro Fuego.
